"Miss Peregrine"s Home For Peculiar Children" is Tim Burton"s X-Men

Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children | Official Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX

These days, its difficult to predict what sort of Tim Burton movie youre going to get when you head to the theaters for his latest film.

On one hand, theres the possibility of getting something like Edward Scissorhands or Sweeney Todd beautifully shot, wonderfully quirky movies that ooze with atmosphere and blend Burtons visual magic with a story filled with heart. More recently, however, theres a distinct chance of getting an Alice in Wonderland or Dark Shadows movies that seem to hurl everything their creator can conceive at the screen in one frantic, chaotic torrent of color and chaos intent on distracting its audience from the lack of substance and story underneath the zany spectacle.

Fortunately, Burtons big-screen adaptation of Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children has far more in common with the former sort of films than the latter.

Directed by Burton from a script by Stardust and X-Men: First Class co-writer Jane Goldman, Miss Peregrine is based on Ransom Riggs 2011 young-adult novel of the same. The film follows a teenage boy whose quest to unravel the mystery of his grandfathers death leads him to a remote island in Wales. Hes soon introduced to the young residents of a hidden estate where everyone has extraordinary abilities including the eccentric headmistress, Miss Peregrine. Their lives are soon put in terrible danger, however, when a group of terrifying creatures discover Miss Peregrines hidden sanctuary.

The film is led by Penny Dreadful and 300: Rise of an Empire actress Eva Green as the titular Miss Peregrine and Enders Game star Asa Butterfield as Jacob, the American teenager caught up with the strange happenings at the school and its even stranger inhabitants. The film also casts Samuel L. Jackson as a wild-haired, shape-changing creature with an appetite for eyeballs, while Ella Purnell (Never Let Me Go, Maleficent) plays a peculiar girl with eyes for Jacob and a unique relationship with the air around (and inside) her.

The films supporting cast is filled out by The IT Crowd actor Chris ODowd as Jacobs bumbling father, Terence Stamp (Superman II) as Jacobs grandfather, Dame Judi Dench (Skyfall) as Miss Avocet, and a long list of young actors portraying the fascinating residents of Miss Peregrines estate.

With its steampunk set pieces, colorful cast of characters, and vivid depiction of the characters fantastic abilities, Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children feels tailor-made for Burtons unique filmmaking sensibilities. However, its Goldmans script that manages to keep the story grounded enough for you to empathize with the characters which is no small feat for a film featuring a girl who needs to wear lead shoes to stop her from floating away.

Over the last few years, Green has proven herself to be a scene-stealer every time she appears on camera, and that continues to be the case in Miss Peregrine, in which she makes her role feel far more prominent than her actual screen time suggests. Her presence is sorely missed in any scene she doesnt appear in, but fortunately, the films cast of young actors proves capable of carrying the movies momentum along in her absence.

It often feels like the film is Burtons version of an X-Men movie.

Butterfield is good if not great as the movies everyman character caught up in the world of nightmarish monsters and people with remarkable abilities, but true to the films title, its the peculiar kids themselves that really shine.

The films creative team does an admirable job of giving each and every one of Miss Peregrines wards some individual attention, and while theyre not given much of a back story, theyre presented as more than just a simple set of fantastic abilities. Thats not an easy task with a cast as large as this one, and Burton walks that line between spreading the cameras attention around too much and not doing enough with the characters to forge a connection with the audience.

Visually, Miss Peregrine is a treat for the eyes that manages to convey the sense of wonder Butterfields character feels each time he sees the amazing abilities of the children and Miss Peregrine herself when they play out in front of him. The same can be said for the sense of dread evoked by the nightmarish villains pursuing Jacob and the children, thanks to some excellent digital creature effects.

Those visual effects get pushed to their limits during one particularly entertaining scene pitting two large groups of CG creatures against each other in an extended brawl. Although the digital creatures occasionally start to look (and act) a little too b-movie/hokey at points, the sequence is packed with enough fun to make you forgive its technical shortcomings.

From its young cast of eccentric characters whose abilities make them outcasts to the narrative that has them using their abilities to protect their friends and mount a daring rescue, Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children feels all too familiar in some ways in fact, it often feels like the film is Burtons version of an X-Men movie.

With Greens character positioned as the groups enigmatic, brilliant, and protective mentor and Butterfield playing the role of an outsider destined to fill an important role, Miss Peregrine checks off all the typical superhero cinema boxes. And yet, despite all of those similarities with popular superhero fare, the film is distinctly a Tim Burton movie in all the best ways.

While Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children falls a little short of heralding a return to form for Batman or Beetlejuice-era Burton, it offers a great reminder of how much talent the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has at his disposal, and why it can be so fascinating to see a story any story, really through his eyes.

Browns" Josh Gordon entering rehab: "Right decision for me"

ESPN First Take Today - Stephen A. Smith On Josh Gordon"s Future In The NFL

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon says he is entering rehab, an announcement that comes less than a week before he was set to rejoin the team.

"After careful thought and deep consideration I"ve decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an in-patient rehabilitation facility," Gordon said in a statement released through the Browns on Thursday. "This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process."

Gordon was suspended for the entire 2015 season for multiple violations of the NFL"s substance abuse policies. He was reinstated conditionally on July 25 by commissioner Roger Goodell, though Gordon also was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.

He was eligible to return next week, ahead of Cleveland"s Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots.

Gordon took to Twitter later Thursday, and he again thanked the NFL and the Browns.

He did not indicate why he"s seeking treatment. The NFL, in a statement, said its "concern is with Josh"s well-being" and declined further comment.

The Browns did not directly address Gordon"s future with the team, although it"s tough to see him staying in Cleveland given all that has happened off the field.

Coach Hue Jackson called it "unfortunate."

"I think Josh needs to do what"s best for Josh," he told the Browns radio network. "I think we all support him 100 percent. We want the best for him, but we understand at this time he won"t be with us, and we move forward from there."

  • After announcing he"s entering rehab, Josh Gordon will not rejoin the Browns next week, and the question is whether he ever will. At this point, it"s hard to see that happening, writes Pat McManamon.

The Browns welcomed Gordon back after the 2015 suspension, but they also drafted four receivers and gave ex-quarterback Terrelle Pryor a full look at the position.

Their approach was to consider Gordon a bonus but to plan for the uncertainty if he did not return.

"We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment," Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said in the statement. "His singular focus must be on his own health. We want nothing more than for Josh to be successful personally and professionally and will not comment on his status with the organization at this time."

Gordon"s off-field issues began in college. The talented yet troubled wideout was dismissed from the team at Baylor and Utah for failing drug tests. The Browns took him in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft.

He was suspended 10 games in 2014 by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy, and he was suspended for the season finale by the team for missing the final walk-through the day before. He also was suspended two games in 2013 by the NFL for substance abuse policy violations. And earlier this month, an arrest warrant for Gordon was withdrawn after he complied with a year-old court order to take a DNA test in a paternity suit.

An attorney who represents the woman told Cleveland.com that the DNA test came back Thursday and showed that Gordon is the father with 99.9 percent certainty. Another court hearing is set for Nov. 8.

Despite an 0-3 start to 2016, there had been optimism for the Browns due in large part to Gordon"s expected return in Week 5. He led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards in the 2013 season and looked like he was back in that form during the 2016 preseason, catching two passes for 87 yards and a touchdown in his debut.

Multiple teams reportedly inquired with Cleveland about a potential trade for the wideout late this summer, but the Browns rebuffed them, saying they weren"t interested.

Together with Pryor, Gordon could have given Cleveland two playmakers going forward despite injuries to rookie wideout Corey Coleman and quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown.

But those plans now may never come to fruition.

Watch Niall Horan"s First Interview Since Dropping Debut Solo Single "This Town"

NIALL HORAN - THIS TOWN (Rajiv Dhall Cover)

Niall Horan made his solo debut with "This Town" on Thursday (Sept. 29) and called up Westwood One"s Zach Sang Show to talk about the new track.

One Direction"s NiallHoranSurprises With First Solo Single "This Town": Listen

Since One Direction went on hiatus earlier this year, Horan explained he spent some time backpacking around Southeast Asia, taking notes and writing lyrics in his notebook. When he got back home afterwards, he said he headed into the studio and "This Town" was one of the first pieces he wrote.

He wrote it with Jamie Scott, who wrote 1D"s***t "Story of My Life" and Horan said that familiar pairing made his transition back into songwriting "easy." As well, from the sounds of it, the time off allowed the singer to get his head a bit straight.

"Backpacking trip kind of normalized my life, I supposed," he told Sang. "I didn"t get asked for photos anywhere. When you"re in tourist spots, no one expects you to be there. So it was kind of like, I kept my hat on, kept my sunglasses on, kept my head down, did all the usual tourist stuff in Southeast Asia with a rucksack on my back."i definitely learned a lot on that trip.

Niall Horan"s One Direction Bandmates React to His New Solo Single

"This Town" is the first taste of a larger album to come, Horan continued, saying that the solo LP should come out sometime next year. And while the cinematic song is a decent representation of what"s to follow, he said some other songs get more "rugged" as well. As he"s been working on the new material, he explained he"s very hands-on in the studio -- as he"s always been, despite the perhaps common misconception otherwise.

"I don"t think anyone really gave 1D enough credit in terms of what we were like in the studio," he said. "I think people just thought, "Oh another manufactured lot who don"t really write their own stuff," but people would be wrong if they thought that. So this time around it was me working closely with producers and knowing what I like in terms of sound and being inspired by different artists and how they would write and different ways of writing songs and stuff like that."

As for the meaning behind his new song, he explained there are a couple ways he interprets it.

NiallHoran"s"This Town" Debuts Atop the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 Chart

"To me the way I look at it, if you"re from a small town you"ll get this, every time you go back to your hometown you"ll see this girl in the bar, or wherever, and then everything comes back to you," he said."And then the other part of it is the town itself no matter whatever you do whenever you live, when you go home, everything comes back to the town. That"s the way I kind of wrote it, as a double meaning."

Surely, his career as a solo artist without his One Direction brothers beside him is going to take adjusting -- particularly on tour.

"Obviously it"s going to be a daunting thing," he said, "but it"s something I"m gonna have to get used to. I"m gonna miss the boys onstage."

As for One Direction"s future, Horan said while everyone is working on their own stuff at the moment, he said there"s no doubt they"ll regroup eventually.

"For the foreseeable it"s our own projects," he said, "but I definitely would not rule and won"t let anyone rule out the return of One Direction, because it"s inevitable."

Ann Coulter: How to Avoid Immigration, Terrorism and Health Care for 90 Minutes

The Best Ann Coulter Insults at the Rob Lowe Roast

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

At least we know Trump wasnt lying when he said he didnt practice for the debate.

Based on the behavior of trained, professional journalists, I gather Im not supposed to say what I really thought of the debate, but to cheer like a pom-pom girl for my candidate.

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

But the truth is, I along with my Trump-supporting friends thought it was a draw: Trump won the first half, and Hillary won the second half. Since most people stopped paying attention after the first 30 minutes, thats a win for Trump.

Hillary supporters, or the media, had reason to be happy: She looked healthy! She probably could have kept reciting her snarky little talking points for another hour.

In fact, it was the best Ive ever seen Hillary. She avoided that honking thing she does, smiled a lot a little too much, actually (maybe ease up on the pep pills next time) and, as the entire media has gleefully reported, she managed to bait Trump.

Note to the Trump campaign: While it may seem studly that Hillarys best performance versus Trumps worst ends in a draw, on Nov. 9, no one wants to say:We almost won and our guy didnt prepare!

The medias excitement over Hillary successfully baiting Trump is revealing of the media, of what this election is really about, and of what Trump needs to do now.

The definition of Trump taking the bait was getting him to talk about himself, not about issues. This from a media that claim to be aching for policy specifics.

Hillary with assists from the moderator baited Trump on how rich he is, the loan from his father, a lawsuit in 1972, the birther claims, who he said what to about the Iraq War from 2001 to 2003, and so on.

For the media, their gal was winning whenever precious minutes of a 90-minute debate were spent rehashing allegations about Trump.Ha ha! We prevented Trump from talking about issues that matter to the American people! That was scored as a win.

Nothing illustrates more clearly that this election is about the people versus the elites than the fact that the media run from Trumps issues like Dracula from the sun.

Trump wins whenever he talks about issues; he loses whenever he talks about himself.

Trump was winning when he talked about the heinous trade deals that have shipped jobs abroad and immiserated millions of Americans which Hillary supports. He was winning when he talked about bringing order and safety to black neighborhoods overrun with crime; Hillarys with the criminals. He was winning when he talked about rebuilding our inner cities, instead of saying, Vote for me! then, See you in four years! as Hillary does.

Unlike the media, ordinary people dont care about Trumps taxes or net worth or the things he said as an entertainer. Trump will be dead and gone in 30 years. But whether America continues to exist or becomes some dystopian blend of Guatemala and Afghanistan will be determined by this election.

Its almost impossible not to correct a lie, especially about yourself, which is why Hillary and Lester Holts baiting strategy was to make outrageous claims about Trump.

Hillary, for example, criticized Trump for not releasing his tax returns, saying, maybe hes paid nothing in federal taxes.

This is exactly what Sen. Harry Reid stated as hard fact about Romney in 2012 on the Senate floor, so he couldnt be sued. After the election was over, Reid was asked about this obvious falsehood. He laughed it off and said, Romney didnt win, did he?

This is the game they play.

Trump has got to learn to ignore it. The voters have. They dont care about his taxes. They want jobs, they want a wall and theyd like fewer Muslims showing up, collecting welfare, then killing Americans.

Trump doesnt have to do formal debate practice, standing at a podium, facing off against a shorty in pantsuit. But he does need Pavlovian training to stop responding to irrelevancies.

This isnt about him! Its about a movement of the people to take back their government from an arrogant plutocracy.

From now until the next debate, every single person who works for Trump should personally insult him several times a day.

Good morning, sir your business is a total fraud.

Here are those trade stats you wanted oh and you lied about opposing the war in Iraq.

The Cincinnati airport needs a tail number why did you fat-shame that poor girl?

If he starts to respond, they should say, No one cares, sir. Tell me how youre going to stop Mexican drugs from pouring across our border.

The proof that voters dont care about the personal attacks on Trump is that, even after his lazy and self-indulgent debate performance, he won nearly every online poll.

Evidently, the American people have sized up the candidates and decided they want Trump. But theres just one last formality: He needs to pass some minimum threshold, a basic job requirement like proving he has a drivers license.

Everybody agrees hes got the job. Its too late for Hillary to be sucking up to the hiring committee, reminding them, but I took drivers ed seven times yes, there were mistakes, but I was grilled for 11 hours about that vehicular homicide. Also, the Russians hacked my GPS.

Trump showed up at the debate with his drivers license. Thats all anyone needed to see.

Marco Rubio "Deeply Concerned" About Possible Donald Trump Cuba Business

Trump renews Clinton attacks amid Cuba business questions

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said Donald Trump will have to answer some questions about a Newsweek story reporting that a Trump-owned company allegedly violated the United States" trade embargo with Cuba in the late 1990s.

This is something theyre going to have to give a response to. I mean, it was a violation of American law, if thats how it happened, Rubio said on the ESPN/ABC Capital Games podcast.

The report says the Trump-owned company secretly conducted business on the island under Fidel Castros communist regime.

According to Newsweek, Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts paid a consulting firm to help the company in the event the U.S. loosened trade restrictions. The consulting firm and the Trump company later attempted to cover up the transaction by making it look like legal spending for a charity.

Rubio, a former presidential candidate, insisted he would reserve judgment until he had learned all the facts.

I hope the Trump campaign is going to come forward and answer some questions about this, because if what the article says is true and Im not saying that it is, we dont know with a hundred percent certainty Id be deeply concerned about it. I would, he said.

Rubio has long been a strong supporter of the embargo of Cuba. He endorsed Trump in late May, after a competitive primary season that saw Trump win by a landslide in Rubios home state.

Indian film producers ban Pakistani actors "for ever" over Kashmir crisis

Pakistan rubbishes India"s claim of surgical strikes across LoC

The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association has banned Pakistani actors, singers and technicians from working on Indian films.

The organisations president, TP Aggarwal, said: No Pakistani will be hired by their producer members for ever. However, as a crisis between Indian and Pakistan over attacks in the disputed territory of Kashmir escalates, other reports stated that the ban would last only until normal relations resume between the two countries.

The IMPPAs decision, carried at the organisations annual general meeting on Friday, comes in the wake of the deaths on 18 September of 19 Indian soldiers in the Uri region, part of the disputed territory of Kashmir. India blamed the assault on Pakistan-sponsored militants and this week launched strikes across the 1972 ceasefire line that divides the Himalayan region.

Ashoke Pandit, a producer and IMPPA member, said: IMPPA paid homage to the martyrs who were killed in Uri. It therefore felt its responsibility towards the nation and passed a resolution banning Pakistani actors and technicians in India till normalcy returns. For IMPPA, nation comes first.

Separately, far-right political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has led a call for all film industry workers of Pakistani origin to leave India, as well as for their films to be banned. The party, led by Raj Thackeray, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Pakistani movie workers to leave India by 25 September or risk being pushed out.

Reports allege that Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been dropped from forthcoming film Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laddoo Deewana. A number of films scheduled for release during the Diwali holiday in October may also be affected, including Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which co-stars Pakistani pin-up Fawad Khan alongside Indian stars Aishwarya Rai and Ranbir Kapoor.

Dear Zindagi, due to hit cinemas in November, may also be affected. The film co-stars Pakistans Ali Zafar and Indias Shah Rukh Khan.

Syrian army, rebels wage fierce battles north of Aleppo city

Gary Johnson Makes Another "Aleppo" Gaffe | The View

BEIRUT Syrian government forces and rebels waged fierce battles north of Aleppo on Friday, a week into a Russian-backed offensive by the Syrian army to take the entire city.

Syrian government forces made a significant advance on Thursday north of Aleppo, capturing the Handarat refugee camp, a few kilometers (miles) from the city. There were conflicting accounts on the outcome of the fighting.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, said government forces had built on the Handarat advance and captured the adjacent Kindi Hospital area on Friday morning, edging closer to the city.

A television station operated by Lebanon"s Hezbollah, which is fighting in support of the government, also said the Kindi Hospital area had been captured.

But rebel sources denied that the government had captured the Kindi Hospital area, saying fighting was still going on.

A senior rebel official also said that government forces were shelling the rebel-held districts with artillery from a hilltop to the east of the city.

The rise of Pepe the Frog is another sign of white nationalism building online

"Pepe the Frog" designated hate symbol by ADL

The ubiquitous green internet amphibian known as Pepe the Frog has been added to the Anti-Defamation League"s database of hate symbols. It"s yet another sign that neo-n**i and white nationalist propaganda is proliferating online.

The Anti-Defamation League"s hate symbols database is crowded with acronyms and photos of tattooed hate symbols, but the group has recently decided to look to the internet to more accurately track the spread of hate messages.

"Our hate symbol database has sort of traditionally dealt with hate symbols that people might come in contact with in the street or on the ground," Oren Segal, director of Anti-Defamation League"s Center on Extremism, told Mashable. "We realize this year that more people are likely to come across hate symbols every day on their phones or online than necessarily in their neighborhood."

The addition of Pepe the Frog to the hate database is somewhat new for the Anti-Defamation League, but not without precedent.

Earlier this year, the group added the (((echo))) symbol, which is used by anti-Semites to identify others as Jewish.

The echo"s origins come from a podcast aired in 2014 in which the hosts dub Jewish names with an echo-effect. The translation of this echo to text took off earlier this year, so much that many Twitter users who are not anti-Semites began to use parentheses as a way to counter the anti-Semitic message.

The proliferation of Pepe and the echo symbol in many ways mirrors the recent proliferation of white nationalist and neo-n**i activity on social media.

Pepe the Frog didn"t start out as an anti-Semitic meme, but internet users in certain corners of sites such as 4chan, 8chan and Reddit warped the frog into a symbol that promotes "anti-Jewish, bigoted and offensive ideas," according to the Anti-Defamation League"s news release. Those ideas took off on Twitter as well as other social networks.

The Southern Poverty Law Center describes the growth of the modern American white nationalist movement often referred to as the loosely-defined and Pepe-loving "alt-right" in much the same way.

"The general population of the alt-right is composed, by and large, of anonymous youths who were exposed to the movements ideas through online message boards like 4chan and 8chans /pol/ and Internet platforms like Reddit and Twitter," the The Southern Poverty Law Center says.

In this April 23 photo, members of the Ku Klux Klan participate in a "white pride" rally in Rome, Georgia.

Image: AP Photo/John Bazemore

And, like the emergence of Pepe as racist/anti-Semitic meme, the online emergence of the alt-right is also recent. Since 2012, "major American white nationalist movements on Twitter" have gained 22,000 followers, "an increase of about 600 percent," according to a recent study of white nationalism online.

That boost in numbers comes partially due to "organized social media activism" and "organic growth in the adoption of social media by people interested in white nationalism," according to the study.

In addition to Pepe the Frog, one of the alt-right"s favorite topics of conversation is Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. In alt-right circles of the internet, talk of Trump has become as ubiquitous as their favorite amphibian.

Emotional crowd says Olango killed for being black, mentally ill

El Cajon Cops KILL UNARMED, MENTALLY DISABLED Black Man Having SEIZURE After His Sister Called 911!!

A large and emotional crowd gathered in front of the El Cajon Police Department Wednesday morning to decry the fatal officer-involved shooting of a black man family members said was mentally unstable.

Under a blazing hot sun that seemed to matchthe temperature of the crowd, speaker after speaker stepped forward saying that the killing of Alfred Olango was a miscarriage of justice that should not have happened.

Mr. Olango was killed for three strikes, said Christopher Rice-Wilson, the Associate Director of the Alliance for San Diego. His first strike was for being black. His second strike was being mentally ill. And his third strike was not following orders, he said. How can you expect a man who cant understand your orders to follow your orders?

Rice-Wilson said the department should have dispatched a team that deals with the mentally ill when it dispatched the call to the officers.

El Cajon shooting

He also questioned the officersresponse once they arrived and confronted Olango. He said one deployed his Taser while the other, instead, fired his weapon. What was the difference? he asked. Why did one officer use lethal force while the other did not?

Mallory Webb, with the NAACP, said she was angry and hurt.

That mans life was priceless, she said. He wasnt doing anything. In an emotional speech that was punctuated at one point with people yelling the names of other black men killed by law enforcement, Webb said

that the shooting could have happened toher little brother or her twin sister.

Im scared to walk the streets every single day, she said. Why do I feel like I have to look behind bushes and hide behind trees because I could get shot and killed anytime? Its not fair at all.

Bishop Cornelius Bowser of the Charity Apostolic Church said Olango was not treated with dignity and respect. He said his sister was calling for help, not to have him killed.

He also questioned the release of the still shot from video released by police that showed Olango with his hands together pointing at the two officers. He called it propaganda on the part of the department that is trying to frame a narrative. Lets see everything, he said referring to the cell phone video taken by a witness.

Dont think for a minute this is over, declared Rev. Shane Harris, the President of the San Diego chapter of the National Action Network. The countrys eyes are on this city.

We are not going to stop until we get justice for Alfred Olango.

As Luca continues to grow up right in front of mom"s eyes, Hilary also has her ex-husband Mike Comrie along for the ride. While they may no longer be together romantically, both parties have found a way to co-parent without any drama.

"I think we both feel lucky that we"re dealing with each other and we have a great kid so that makes it all the better," Hilary explained while supporting Visine"s new #ScreenOn campaign. "That we both enjoy him to the fullest and it"s great."

As she prepares for a new season of Younger, Hilary remains focused on her acting career. And while she knows that many fans still love and adore her timeless hits, music just isn"t the biggest priority right now.

"I"ve also been very honest about this that I don"t know how much time I have to put into [music]. I don"t have dreams to go on a world tour anymore," she admitted. "Maybe somebody, but right now, my life is so full and busy enough with the show. I love music, it"s in me, it"s a part of me but I look at my kid and go you"re a teenager alreadyIt"s scary to think time is going by so fast and I want to be present for all of that."

Middle East|Syria Talks Will End if Aleppo Bombing Continues, US Tells Russia

Syrian ambassador laughs as journalist asks about Aleppo hospital bombings

The Obama administration has repeatedly said it is Russias responsibility to stop its own attacks and to ensure that President Bashar al-Assad of Syria complies with the agreement Mr. Kerry and Mr. Lavrov reached nearly three weeks ago in Geneva to reduce violence in the conflict and allow humanitarian aid into besieged areas.

The two clashed over the conflict in the United Nations Security Council last week, when Mr. Lavrov said the United States had failed to persuade moderate Syrian opposition groups to separate themselves from the extremist fighters of the Nusra Front, an offshoot of Al Qaeda that now calls itself the Levant Victory Front, and abide by a cease-fire.

Mr. Kerry said the Russian and Syrian militaries were primarily responsible for the continuing violence, including the Sept. 19 bombing of an aid convoy to Aleppo, which American officials say was carried out by Russian aircraft despite Russian denials.

Mr. Kirby dismissed the Russian assertion that the Aleppo operation has been aimed at terrorists. Thats not whats happening, he told reporters. What were seeing them hit is not Nusra.

When Mr. Kerry became secretary of state he often asserted his goal for Syria was to change President Assads calculation about prevailing on the battlefield and thus set the stage for a political settlement.

The United States has undertaken a covert program to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels forces bombed by the Russians soon after they deployed their warplanes to Syria a year ago.

But President Obama has been extremely reluctant to take additional steps, such as allowing Arab partners to provide surface-to-air missiles to the opposition, establishing no-fly zones or threatening the Assad government with punitive military action.

Nor is it clear if the administration would be willing to broaden the economic sanctions imposed on Russia in the aftermath of Moscows intervention in Ukraine two years ago.

Graphic

Civilians in these areas have limited or no access to food, medicine and basic necessities.

Interagency conversations about other options and alternatives that might be available to us and to our partners continue, said Mr. Kirby, who declined to provide specifics.

Asked what consequences the Russians faced if diplomacy ended, Mr. Kirby pointed to the war itself. Extremist groups will continue to exploit the vacuums that are there in Syria, to expand their operations, which will include no question attacks against Russian interests, perhaps even Russian cities, he said. And Russia will continue to send troops home in body bags.

Congressional critics mocked Mr. Kerrys threat to end talks as toothless. No more lakeside tte--ttes at five-star hotels in Geneva, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham said in a statement. We can only imagine that having heard the news, Vladimir Putin has called off his bear hunt and is rushing back to the Kremlin to call off Russian airstrikes on hospitals, schools and humanitarian aid convoys around Aleppo.

A statement from Russias Foreign Ministry did not mention Mr. Kerrys threat to Mr. Lavrov, saying the two diplomats had discussed possibilities of influencing the situation in Aleppo in the interest of normalizing it by returning to their Sept. 9 agreement.

At a hastily called Defense Ministry briefing Wednesday night in Moscow, Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir said the actions by Syrian and Russian forces in Aleppo were a response to militant shelling and other provocations, including what he called plans for a chemical weapons attack.

He offered no details but said, Under these conditions, the Syrian command had to take retaliatory measures against militants.

When the cease-fire agreement was announced, the Obama administration hoped that the possibility of joint action against militant jihadists would be enough of a lure to ensure Kremlin cooperation.

For months, Russia had pressed the United States to collaborate in Syria against the Islamic State and Nusra Front, not merely deconflict air operations as the American and Russian militaries do now.

For the Kremlin, Russian-American military collaboration in Syria could be presented as having validated its decision to intervene militarily in the conflict and, more generally, its aspirations to expand Russian influence in the Middle East.

But the Russian priority at this point appears to be to help the Syrian government retake Aleppo.

Even if the talks are broken off, the American military will continue to deconflict its air operations with the Russian military, the State Department said.

The attacks on Aleppos medical facilities dominated a meeting on Wednesday of the United Nations Security Council, where diplomacy aimed at halting the war has been repeatedly frustrated. A Security Council resolution adopted in May beseeching combatants to protect medical facilities in war zones has been ignored.

Joanne Liu, the international president of the medical aid group Doctors Without Borders, told the Council that threats to health care workers had worsened, warning that throwing medical impartiality to the wind may also become a new norm of warfare.

The Syrian ambassador, Bashar al-Jaafari, asked by a journalist whether his government had carried out the airstrikes on the two Aleppo hospitals, laughed.

Inside the Council chamber, Russias deputy ambassador, Evgeny Zagaynov, said he condemned attacks on medical targets but warned against a rush to blame Syria and Russia without verifiable data.

The British deputy ambassador, Peter Wilson, pointed out that only Russian and Syrian warplanes were bombing rebel-held eastern Aleppo. Syria and Russia bear full responsibility for these atrocities, he wrote on Twitter.

The secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, in some of his sharpest remarks on Syria, said about the Aleppo airstrikes: Those using ever more destructive weapons know exactly what they are doing. They know they are committing war crimes.

"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them:" New Movie Poster Spotlights Eddie Redmayne As Newt Scamander

First Look! "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" Full Trailer

The Harry Potter universe expanded when J.K. Rowling released the 2001 book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, under the pseudonym Newt Scamander, which is now an upcoming film. On Monday, June 20, Warner Bros. Pictures released a new Fantastic Beasts movie poster that features The Danish Girls Eddie Redmayne dressed as Newt Scamander.

The new movie poster has Redmayne standing atop of a section of a destructed building, holding a briefcase and a glowing wand, while standing across from the train tracks in New York City. The yellow and black striped scarf that Redmayne wears in the Fantastic Beasts poster are the house colors of Hufflepuff, which is part of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where Scamander was a student.

[Image via Warner Bros.]The top of the poster features the words, J.K. Rowling invites you to a new era of the wizarding world. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie title uses the same typography that the Harry Potter movie posters used.

The story takes place 54 years before Harry Potter is even born, and 30 years before Albus Dumbledore becomes headmaster of Hogwarts. In a brief voice-over in the Fantastic Beasts trailer, Colin Farrells character wonders why Dumbledore thinks highly of Scamander, who was apparently kicked out of Hogwarts.

Rowling, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie, created the book that talks about Scamanders life and adventures in 1920s New York City. Scamander carries an expanded briefcase that holds dangerous, magical creatures; the briefcase has a muggle worthy option that hides the fantastic beasts from non-magical people.

Scamander is in New York to attend a meeting with an important official at the Magical Congress of the United States. Unfortunately, the magical creatures in the briefcase end up escaping at one point, which causes tension between the magical community and the No-Maj, the American version of non-magical people.

Its up to Newt Scamander to retrieve the magical creatures, all the while being chased by Percival Graves, played by Farrell. Graves is a high-ranking Auror, whom are elite wizards that hunt down magical people that use spells from the Dark Arts.

Tony award-winning actor Dan Fogler plays Jacob Kowalski, a No-Maj factory worker who becomes friends with Scamander. After meeting Scamander, Kowalski is exposed to the NYC magical community.

John Carter actress Samantha Morton plays the societys sinister leader, Mary Lou.

The fantastic beasts featured in the story do not make a full appearance in the teaser trailer that was released back in April, but viewers do get a glimpse of a couple of the creatures.

The new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them poster has been released before the Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts special event at VidCon 2016 in Anaheim, California. The details of the sold-out event is being kept under wraps, but the event holders are left with a teasing message on the films official Facebook page promising that something fantastic at #vidcon2016 is being announced soon.

VidCon 2016 begins on June 23 and continues through June 25, with the Fantastic Beasts special event taking place on June 22. Seventeen popular vloggers will be hosting the event, and a live stream will take place on the Warner Bros. YouTube channel, according to the Fantastic Beasts official movie site.

Shimon Peres of Israel Dies at 93; Built Up Defense and Sought Peace

A look back at the life of Shimon Peres

It did not end until Arafat died in 2004, bringing new leadership to the Palestinians and a new effort at coexistence led by Mr. Sharon, a former hawk who had been elected prime minister. He withdrew Israeli settlers and soldiers from Gaza and small parts of the West Bank.

Mr. Peres had tried before to get a peace settlement, in 1987, between Israel and Jordan. He was foreign minister in a coalition government with Yitzhak Shamir when he proposed an international peace conference on the Middle East. But Mr. Shamir and his Likud faction scuttled the plan.

Mr. Peres had sought to settle the future of the West Bank and Gaza, which Israel had occupied since the Arab-Israeli War in 1967. As a first step, he proposed that Jordan and Israel could either divide the land or share the government but that Israel should not control the area forever.

Photo Mr. Peres, left, with Yitzhak Shamir in 1988 in Jerusalem. Credit Anat Givon/Associated Press A Coalition, and Calm

Mr. Peres became prime minister at the head of an unusual coalition of Israels two major political parties, his own Labor Party, and the Likud, the party led by Yitzhak Shamir, who served as deputy prime minister and foreign minister. In accordance with the coalition agreement, the two men exchanged posts after 25 months.

Mr. Peres brought a period of tranquillity to the social environment, which had been frayed by animosities between European and Middle Eastern Jews and between religious Jews and secular Jews.

He presided over the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon after an invasion that had generated unprecedented controversy, and he became the first Israeli prime minister to take the difficult steps required to deal with the nations fundamental economic problems and ruinous inflation.

During his time in office, Israel airlifted some 7,000 Ethiopian Jews who had trekked to refugee camps in Sudan to escape famine, anti-Semitism, forced conscription of boys and other threats that had made their lives in Ethiopia precarious. Mr. Peres called the clandestine rescue operation a daring and wonderful act of self-redemption.

Taking over what was expected to be a government of national impasse, Mr. Peres left office with an image as a dignified, self-confident statesman.

But while he was prime minister, severe strains developed in relations between the United States and Israel growing out of a major spy scandal involving an American, Jonathan Jay Pollard, and the disclosure in 1986 of Iranian arms deals.

A man of medium height and slender, athletic build his dark hair turned gray and then white in his later years Mr. Peres always exuded vitality, despite a schedule that kept him going 18 hours a day. When, on his 88th birthday, he was offered a traditional Jewish greeting, May you live till 120, he retorted without missing a beat, Dont be stingy.

Mr. Peres was married to the former Sonya Gelman, who shunned the spotlight to the point of refusing to move into the presidents house when he took his last public post. She died in January 2011. They had three children: a daughter, Zvia, and two sons, Jonathan and Nehemya. They and Mr. Peress eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive him.

Mr. Peres was an effective speaker, comfortable in front of large audiences as well as the television camera. He cultivated party members remembering their names and attending their weddings and bar mitzvahs and nurtured his relationship with the intelligentsia.

He also wrote poetry and was given to quoting the ancient Greeks and Flaubert and Churchill. He published a dozen books, including The New Middle East, in 1993, and Battling for Peace, a memoir, in 1995. His last book was an affectionate political biography of his mentor, the countrys founding prime minister, David Ben-Gurion.

Photo A picture of David Ben-Gurion was on the wall of Mr. Peress office in Tel Aviv. He became known as one of Ben-Gurions boys. Credit Associated Press A Journey From Poland

He was born Shimon Persky on Aug. 16, 1923, to a merchant family in the small village of Vishniewa, Poland. His parents, Yitzhak and Sara Persky, took him to Palestine when he was 11, where he studied in Tel Aviv and then entered an agricultural school.

In 1941, he helped found Kibbutz Alumot in the eastern Lower Galilee, where he worked as a herdsman and was elected kibbutz secretary. He soon became active in the Mapai, which was to become Israels Labor Party, and at 18 was appointed the coordinator of the youth movement of the Histadrut, the General Labor Federation.

He rose rapidly, getting experience in the intricacies of Israeli political life. In 1944, Ben-Gurion, then the head of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, sent Mr. Peres with a small reconnaissance group to Eilat on the Red Sea to survey the Sinai Desert and make maps, which became important strategic assets during the 1948 war of independence.

It was on that mission that a friend sighted a nest of eagles, peres in Hebrew. Persky, he said, why dont you change your family name to Peres? He accepted the suggestion, though the bird they saw was in fact more a vulture than an eagle.

When Israel became independent in 1948, Mr. Peres was named head of the naval service. Within two years, he was sent to the United States to lead a defense supply mission in New York. He was 27 and spoke no English, but within three months, after rounds of intensive private lessons, he was fluent. He took courses at the New School for Social Research and New York University, and later at the Harvard School of Public Administration.

In 1951, Ben-Gurion, then prime minister and minister of defense, appointed Mr. Peres director general of the Defense Ministry, where he used his Harvard training to reorganize the department. Mr. Peres became known as one of Ben-Gurions boys protgs of the Old Man a group that included Teddy Kollek and Moshe Dayan.

Those years may have been the genesis of a lifelong rivalry with Mr. Rabin, who at the time was chief of the operations branch, the second-highest position in the Israeli Army. He complained of what he called Mr. Peress excessive authority.

At the Defense Ministry, Mr. Peres was in charge of a substantial portion of the nations total budget, and he played a central role in developing the young nations industry, particularly in aeronautics and electronics.

He stressed domestic weapons production, but when Egypt received advanced military equipment from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia, Mr. Peres began to cast about for new sources of supply. He finally turned to France.

His timing was excellent. The French believed the Algerian revolutionaries fighting for independence were fueled by President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt and saw Israel as a source of intelligence about Egypt. Mr. Peres negotiated a $1 billion arms deal and acquired a reputation as a canny bargainer.

The arms negotiations formed a basis for the Franco-Israeli alliance that led to Israels lightning capture of Sinai in 1956. Zeev Schiff, for many years the military editor of the newspaper Haaretz, said, There is no doubt that Peres was one of the brains behind Suez.

Ben-Gurion felt that a pre-emptive war was bad for Israel in terms of public opinion and was reluctant until the last. Mr. Peres saw it as an opportunity to get a better position among the superpowers, a special relationship through a joint venture of going to war together.

Out of that joint venture came French help in building a nuclear reactor in Dimona, which provided Israel with the ability to build nuclear weapons.

I reached the stage in France where I was trusted by everybody, and really the sky was the limit, Mr. Peres said many years later.

In 1957, Mr. Peres was awarded the French Legion of Honor, one of many international distinctions. In 2012, President Obama presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The American honor partly reflected Israels shift in alliance to the United States from Europe in previous decades. While under Ben-Gurion, and his successor, Levi Eshkol, Mr. Peres had negotiated with the West German defense minister, Franz Josef Strauss, to get arms and continued to get weapons from France as well. But he came to rely increasingly on the United States. He visited Washington frequently and met with Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Mr. Peres ran for the countrys Parliament, the Knesset, in 1959, in his first bid for national elective office. With the support of Ben-Gurion, he was given a position high enough on his partys electoral list to be assured of victory.

In the political turmoil that preceded the 1967 Middle East War, Mr. Peres tried to negotiate a return to power for Ben-Gurion, who had retired. In the course of his negotiations, he proposed a coalition to Menachem Begin, the head of the right-wing Herut Party, despite Ben-Gurions belief that if Mr. Begin ever came to power, he would bring Israel to the precipice of destruction.

Shabtai Teveth, a professor of history at Tel Aviv University and the biographer of Ben-Gurion, said in an interview, I believe Peres will go down in Zionist and Israeli history as the man who legitimized Begin and the Herut.

Ten years later, in 1977, when Mr. Peres challenged Mr. Rabin, the split in the Labor Party opened the way for the election of Mr. Begin as prime minister.

When Israels top leaders were discredited because of the countrys lack of preparedness for the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Mr. Peres made a bid for power. To block him, Finance Minister Pinchas Sapir recruited Mr. Rabin, who had been ambassador to the United States and bore no responsibility for the wartime failures. Mr. Rabin named Mr. Peres defense minister, a decision he later came to regret. In his memoirs, Mr. Rabin called him unscrupulous and untrustworthy. He wrote that he could not believe a word Mr. Peres said.

J.J. Watt out until at least December after Texans place him on IR

#03 J.J.Watt (DE, Texans) | Top 100 Players of 2016

The Houston Texans have placed J.J. Watt on injured reserve after the star defensive lineman re-injured his back. According to the Associated Press, the Texans expect Watt to be on the sideline at least until December -- and possibly the rest of the season.

Watt took to Twitter after the news was announced to say he"s looking forward to the "fight back to the top."

Watt, who has won each of the last two Defensive Player of the Year awards and three during his NFL career, underwent two different surgeries after the Texans" 2015 season ended. In January he had surgery on a sports hernia and in July he had surgery on a herniated disc in his back. He subsequently started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. However, he was able to return by Week 1.

Watt had struggled to resemble his usual dominant self through the first three weeks of the 2016 season, even as he collected 1.5 sacks during a Week 2 win over the Chiefs. He was practically invisible during an embarrassing Week 3 drubbing at the hands of the Patriots, where it was obvious he was struggling.

The Texans signed defensive end Antonio Smith to take Watt"s spot on the roster and presumably in the lineup, but it should be fairly obvious that they do not have anyone that can replace his production or impact. He has been far and away the best defensive player in football since entering the league in 2011, and while the Texans have supplementary pass-rushers that have been productive while playing alongside Watt (Whitney Mercilus and this year, Jadeveon Clowney), it seems safe to say they will not be quite as free to get after the quarterback without Watt on the field.

That should have a huge effect on the Houston defense, which is still the team"s stronger unit even after an offseason spree that saw the team sign Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller and draft Will Fuller and Braxton Miller. The Texans rank 24th in total yards and tied for 31st in points so far this season, as well as last in Football Outsiders" offensive DVOA (which adjusts performance for down, distance, and opponent). They will obviously need the offense to step up in a big way without Watt leading the way for the defense.

It"s hard to say what the injury might mean for Watt"s career. Players have returned from serious back injuries and even back surgeries to be incredibly productive. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had the best season of his career after herniated disc surgery and a subsequent fracture of two transverse processes in his back. But some have also seen their careers derailed by injuries to the same area (we can look at Romo again here, as he just suffered another back break and it"s unknown when he"ll be able to return to the lineup). Back injuries generally are not the type that can be cured -- symptoms can be managed but doctors have noted that removing the troubled disc represents the only long-term solution.

A league without Watt -- or with a severely diminished Watt -- would be a worse place for all NFL fans, not just those that support the Texans. But at this point, with two serious back injuries in two seasons, it"s unfortunately something we might have to start contemplating.

MH17 Investigators: Missile That Hit Jet Was Brought From Russia

The First Presidential Debate: Hillary Clinton And Donald Trump (Full Debate) | NBC News

The missile that downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was fired from a Russian launcher in an area of Ukraine controlled by pro-Moscow rebels, a Dutch-led team of investigators and prosecutors concluded Wednesday.

The surface-to-air missile hit the Boeing 777 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur killing 298 people in July 2014, breaking it apart in midair and scattering wreckage over several miles of fields.

At the time of the disaster, pro-Russian separatists were fighting Ukrainian government forces in the area.

Witness and social media evidence, along with intercepted communications, allowed investigators to track the Cold War-era Buk launcher being moved from Russia to rebel-held territory in Ukraine then back across the border after the disaster, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) said.

Wilbert Paulissen, head of the Central Crime Investigation department of the Dutch National Police, said: "It may be concluded MH17 was shot down by a 9M38 missile launched by a Buk, brought in from the territory of the Russian Federation, and that after launch was subsequently returned to the Russian Federation."

The findings refute Moscow"s suggestion that the plane was brought down by the Ukrainian military. On Monday, Russia said it had new data showing the missile did not originate from rebel-controlled territory and said it would turn the data over to investigators.

Russia"s foreign affairs ministry spokeswoman dismissed the entire investigation as "biased and politically motivated."

Maria Zakharova said in a statement that investigators had "prevented Moscow from fully taking part in the process."

"It sounds like an evil joke, but they"ve also made Ukraine a full member of the JIT, giving it the opportunity to fake evidence and twist the situation to its benefit," she said. "To this day, the investigation continues to ignore irrefutable proof presented by the Russian side, even though Russia is in fact the only country to send reliable information and reveal more and more new data."

Eduard Basurin, a defense spokesman for the separatist self-declared Donetsk People"s Republic, told Interfax: "We did not have these air defense systems at our disposal neither the systems, not the specialists [to operate it]. So we couldn"t have shot down the Boeing."

Investigators also ruled out the possibility that MH17 was downed by another aircraft or by some kind of accident, but were unable to conclude whether the missile was fired at the passenger jet accidentally or deliberately.

Wednesday"s report marks "an important milestone" in bringing to justice all those responsible for downing the aircraft, Ukraine"s foreign ministry said.

Thomas Schansman, father of the only U.S. citizen killed in the July 2014 disaster, told The Associated Press he expected investigators to identify the weapon involved and where it was fired from, but not to name the people they believe were responsible.

Barry Sweeney, whose son Liam was among the dead, told the BBC: "It shouldn"t have happened. To find out why it happened would be a bonus."

The inquiry concluded that the deadly surface-to-air missile was fired from farmland in the rebel-held area of Pervomaiskiy, 3 miles from the eastern Ukrainian town of Snizhne. Wednesday"s news conference was shown pictures of scorched grass where the launch took place.

The downing played a significant part in a decision by the European Union and United States to impose sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine conflict, and East-West tensions escalated to levels not seen since the Cold War ended in 1990.

Russia-made Buk warheads, first built in the 1970s, are capable of shooting down aircraft up to 18 miles away. But the radar system that guides the missiles is designed for war zones, and is not capable of distinguishing between military and civilian planes.

Last year, a civil air accident investigation into the cause of the July 17, 2014 disaster by the Dutch Safety Board concluded that MH17 was downed by a Buk missile that exploded less than one yard from the aircraft"s cockpit.

Hundreds of "high-energy" fragments pierced the fuselage, and the shrapnel instantly killed the two pilots and one crew member inside, it concluded. There was no time to make a mayday call or attempt to maneuver, the report noted.

"It was not possible to ascertain at which moment the occupants died," it added. "The impact on the ground was not survivable."

Caddell Calls Out "Stupidity of Republicans" in Internet Takeover Debate

Pollster and political analyst Pat Caddell spoke with Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Wednesday, discussing the state of the presidential race, as well as the looming United Nations Internet takeover being discussed in Congress, as Breitbart News reported.

Breitbart News highlighted:

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee for president, has sided with the sovereignty of the American people against international elites yet again by coming out in public opposition to President Barack Obamas internet giveaway to a United Nations globalist body.

Caddell said, We polled on this weeks ago, and it is overwhelming. The people who knew about it were against it because they mean it is another sign of America selling out. I just do not understand the stupidity of Republicans, frankly.

They do not understand the issues that they have that we are showing in our polling, like on Iran that theyre cheating, or already cheating. Why this is not like the Internet a giveaway, going at Obama on those things, he pondered, before adding:

These are major questions. Voters should be animated, and it is just frustrating beyond belief to me that it has not come up yet, and they, apparently, the leadership of the Republican Party, caved in on that, again. But the Democrats want to do that. Why arent the Republicans making that an issue?

Cleveland Indians" day-after-clinching lineup is one for the ages, and there are some good ones

Cleveland Indians - Jacobs Field Magic

DETROIT -- As the story goes, Albert Belle didn"t like the first version of Mike Hargrove"s lineup.

It was Sept. 9, 1995, the day after the Indians clinched the American League Central and their first trip to the postseason in 41 years. Hargrove planned to rest several regulars, but Belle had other ideas.

The surly slugger, perhaps with his sights set on gaudier numbers, demanded that Hargrove insert him into the batting order. Hargrove relented, and Belle went 0-for-3 in a 2-1 victory against Baltimore. He would, however, club 17 home runs in September to finish with 50 for the season, to go along with 52 doubles.

Typically, the lineup the day after a clinching game includes plenty of youngsters and backups. Ruben Amaro and Herbert Perry both started that day in September 1995. The Indians" day-after-clinching lineup in 1996 included Casey Candaele, Geronimo Pena, Nigel Wilson and Ryan Thompson.

Terry Francona"s Tuesday lineup is one for the ages. Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, Mike Napoli, Jose Ramirez, Lonnie Chisenhall, Roberto Perez and Coco Crisp all received the evening off.

"It"s much deserved," said Chris Gimenez. "A lot of the guys who have carried us to this point, they deserve to have a day off."

Francona penciled in Chris Gimenez at third base, Adam Moore at catcher, Erik Gonzalez at shortstop and Jesus Aguilar at first base.

Gimenez has logged five innings at the hot corner during his career.

"Not thrilled about that," Francona said. "We were running out of players. This is one of those nights where it might not be as pretty as we"d like it to be, but I think the guys like Kipnis and Lindor and, especially, Ramirez, they need to have a day to gather themselves. It"ll be good for them."

During the Indians" clubhouse celebration after Monday"s division-clinching victory, bench coach Brad Mills informed Gimenez he would be starting at third base. Gimenez responded by spraying Mills with champagne.
