Since then, she"s become a fan-favourite part of the DC TV Universe (particularly now that the show is on The CW), while also receiving praise for her role in Boston Marathon bombing dramaPatriots Day . Now, the beautiful actress has posed for the New York Post (via Movie Hotties).

Talking to the publication recently, Benoist revealed that it actually took three months of auditions and dying her hair blonde in order for Supergirl producers to finally realise that she was the right fit for the role of the Girl of Steel. "I don"t think of myself as that tough, kick-a*s, badass woman," she admitted. "I"ve always been a pacifist, for one, and I was [always] weirder and quirkier and dorkier."

Supergirlis set to return on January 16th with the Kevin Smith helmed episode, "Supergirl Lives."

Producer Warner Bros. Television has released the first-look photos of the Glee and Whiplash breakout in the official costume as DC Comics character Supergirl.

The costume was designed by three-time Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood, who also served in the same capacity for WBTV/The CWs DC takes Arrow and The Flash.

In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today, said Atwood, who earned Oscars for Into the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman and Sweeney Todd.

Production on the pilot started this week in Los Angeles.

The drama centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist), Supermans cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, Kara was taken in by a foster family, the Danverses, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers (which she shares with her famous cousin).

Brothers & Sisters and Ally McBeal alum Calista Flockhart co-stars as DC Comics character Cat Grant, True Bloods Mehcad Brooks is set as Jimmy Olsen; Homelands David Harewood is DC Comics character Hank Henshaw; and Greys Anatomys Chyler Leigh plays Alexandra Alex Danvers, the confident foster sister of Kara. Laura Benanti will recur, while former Supergirl Helen Slater and former Superman Dean Cain will guest-star in the pilot.

Arrow and Flashs Greg Berlanti and his No Ordinary Family cohort Ali Adler (The New Normal) as well as Arrow and Flash EP Andrew Kreisberg will pen the script and executive produce the drama via Berlanti Productions Warner Bros. Television-based banner. Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter also is on board to executive produce.

Melissa Benoist of 'Glee' will play Supergirl

Melissa Benoist is your new Supergirl.

Right. I think she really was the last actor who hasn't worn a cape yet.

The "Whiplash" and "Glee" actress will star as Superman's equally-talented cousin in a new series on CBS. Benoist has also appeared in "The Good Wife," according to the Huffington Post.

Benoist will portray Kara Zor-El, who also happened to escape Krypton's destruction and ended up an orphan on Earth. She also -- stop me if you'd heard this before -- grew up with adoptive parents, who urged her to keep her powers secret. Therefore she wears a disguise that includes glasses. And she also happens to be related to Superman.

I wonder if she gets along with Lex Luthor's cousin.

The series will chronicle what happens after a disaster forces Zor-El to use her powers.

Helen Slater played Supergirl in the very forgettable 1984 film of the same name ("Supergirl," not "Forgettable 1984 Film.")
