Starbucks Announces the Color-Changing Unicorn Frappuccino of Your Technicolor Dreams

Magically delicious? We"ll see! Starbucks is the latest brand to jump on the enchanted bandwagon with its announcement of a limited-edition unicorn frappuccino.

Available from April 19 through April 23 (while supplies last, of course), this special version of the usual crme frap is spiked with mango syrup, blended with pink powder and layered with ribbons of sour blue powder. A swirl of whipped cream dusted with more pink and blue powder caps off the Lisa Frankesque confection.

As if that weren"t enough, the fruity beverage turns from purple to magenta as you stir it with your straw. (The taste also morphs from sweet to tart.) Samples of the drink have already been popping up across social media sites, and so far, the company"s fans are here for it.

Starbucks Introduces "Unicorn Frappuccino"

Dropping all pretense that its Frappuccinos are anything more than a sugar-laden kids drink, Starbucks is this week selling a color-changing drink with sour blue powder topping.

The Unicorn Frappuccino blended creme will be sold Wednesday through Sunday, while supplies last.

The companys press release says the drink starts out purple with a first taste that is sweet and fruity. But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart.

Previous Frappuccino flavors include cotton candy, cupcake creme and Pokemon Go. A 16-ounce drink with whipped cream has about 450 calories, 16 grams of fat and 65 grams of sugar.

UPDATE, 4/19 10:00 a.m.: This post was updated to reflect recent news about this most unusual new Starbucks creation.

Trend-chasing coffee titan Starbucks is jumping on the Lisa Frankenfoods bandwagon with the release of a new unicorn-themed version of its most popular specialty drink, the Frappuccino. Pictures of this pink-and-blue creation started to surface on Instagram and Twitter on April 17, and baristas were chatting about it on Reddit for days before the company confirmed its existence.

Snacktakus Mike Fahey whose wife works at Starbucks got an early taste of this drink on April 16. Fahey described the unicorn frappuccino as having a sour raspberry flavor kind of like fresh fruit. He also noted the presence of a horrible sour syrup. One Starbucks Redditor remarked that it tasted just like those Tropical Skittles.

This treat is a crme Frappuccino blended with pink powder and mango syrup. Its got a sour blue topping and pink powder dusted whipped cream on top. The inside of the drink has a purple hue at first, but as you mix all the stuff together it turns pink.

Per an official announcement from Starbuck HQ, the Unicorn Frappuccino is only available for five days starting today it will fly back to the cloud land from whence it came after April 23. Rumor has it that Rainbow Brite drinks five of these very morning.
