New Harry Styles Single Faces Spotify Glitches on First Day of Release

A technical issue on the music streaming platform Spotify kept the new single by Harry Styles from being accessed on the network for several hours on its first day of release.

The highly anticipated first solo track from the One Direction member, Sign of the Times was the top trending topic worldwide upon its debut at 8 a.m. London time on April 7 (and in the two hours leading up to Styles appearance on BBC radio), but initially was not found on Spotify either through search ofthe name Harry Styles or via the New Music Friday playlist, where it was set to appear.

The issue took less time to resolve on Spotifys premium tier than the free tier, where well into Friday, users and fans were still experiencing problems locating the song or accessing Styles brand new artist profile. Spotifys user base was last reported to be 50 million.

When contacted by Variety, a rep for Spotify confirms the glitch as a technical issue for both Free and Premium, adding, There should be no further issue, though users unable to play this track need to reinstall the Spotify application to remove the cache.

Many fans who went in search of the single elsewhere ended up at music video hub VEVO, where the lyric video for Sign of the Times racked up more than 6.4 million plays in 24 hours.

Data on multiple platform first-day streams has yet to be confirmed by Styles label, Sony Music subsidiary Columbia Records, which would not comment on the Spotify outage, but One Direction devotees were quick to voice their disappointment at a perceived disadvantage for Styles out-the-gate performance. After all, it was only a month ago that another beloved British singer, Ed Sheeran, shattered streaming records with the arrival of his latest album, (Divide), and single Shape of You, which logged 68.6 million streams and 10 million streams on Spotify in day one, respectively, upon release.

As for Styles, the singers team is expecting a second and subsequent waves of interest in Sign of the Times, as the Spotify community catches up, says a source, who adds that any judgment based on the first 24 hours is not an accurate reflection of the songs impact, due to its absence from Spotify.

Indeed, the introspective rock ballad, which nods to such musical icons as David Bowie and The Beatles, has received glowing reviews thus far, with both fans and critics applauding styles against-the-grain approach to pushing the traditional limitations of the pop format.

A look at its performance on iTunes shows an unqualified smash as Sign of the Times reached No. 1 in 82 countries and, according to an insider, beat label-mate Adele to the top spot on the iTunes singles chart by reaching the feat in 19 minutes (Adeles Hello took an hour). Apple also didnt encounter any issues with the Styles single on its streaming service, Apple Music, which last reported 20 million subscribers.

Still, the hiccup, which comes on the heels of a just-announced multiyear global licensing deal between Universal Music Group and Spotify, have some in the Sony Music orbit snickering that the Styles snafu was somehow instigated by the competition. But in all seriousness, says the Styles source, In the grand scheme of things, what it did across the board was bonkers.

Harry Styles is taking on a few new rolesactor, solo artist...godfather?

In the midst of a press tour for his first solo single, "Sign of the Times," the former One Direction member is dishing on everything from his upcoming performance inDunkirk and the future of thegroup to potentially playing godfather to bandmate Liam Payne"s first baby boy. The star announced the birth of his first child in late March and, according to Styles, has been "loving" his life as a dad.

"He said it"s going really well," Styles said during an interview on Key 103. "I"m very happy for him."

As for whether or not he"s been asked to be the baby"s godfather, that"s still up in the air.

"I think it"s a roll of the dice to be honest. I think there"s a lot of people that Liam has in mind, but I"m not going to add any extra pressure," he said. "If it came my way, I would be honored."

In the meantime, he has new movie, album and sound to introduce to the world."I never wanted it to sound like anyone else," the star told Elvis Duran of his first track. "I didn"t want to feel like I was redoing something. But, at the same time, I think it"s impossible to not be influenced by stuff that you grew up listening to. All I know really is that I wanted to write through the whole album. I wanted it to be really honest. I didn"t want to hide and I just wanted to write what I wanted to listen to."

Now, as he prepares to hit theSaturday NightLivestage on April 15, he"ll also perform for the first time with his shorter locksthe result of a chop he underwent for the Christopher Nolan-directed drama.

"I felt very n***d," styles told duran of his short hair. "When I first told my parents I was going to be in a World War II film, they thought I was playing a lady on the train station waving the soldiers off, so we had to make the chop. But, it was good! It"s very breezy."

Taylor enjoyed a huge profile-boost when she dated Harry Styles, in particular, due to the fact that hostile and/or obsessed Directioners began following her every move.

Taylor is not happy, though. In a new Vogue video, Harrys ex complains that she feels she has been a lightning rod for s**t-shaming.

Compare Swift to Rita Ora, who has been unable to get a singing career past the early stages, in part because people feel like the date-a-holic gives off a bad energy, according to the Sun.

Not only that, the extra exposure Taylor Swift has received, in a media hungry for headlines about romances, breakups, and s*x lives, has been a huge boost for the talented Swifts career.

Taylor Swift is talented, but many women just as gifted as her labor in obscurity because there are no headlines linking them to the likes of flaky John Mayer or jerky Jake Gyllenhaal.

The bottom line: If your song lyrics generate automatic intrigue and inspire careful close-readings because people think they might be about John or Harry Styles, consider yourself blessed.

My problem with Taylor Swift is her lyrics. Its not that she only writes about boys and love (even though I find this problematic and totally unprogressive).

Its that Taylor Swift s**t-shames other women constantly and no one says anything about it.

Swift has now won a Grammy and has always been celebrated for her songwriting talent even at the height of her serial dating and the alleged s**t-shaming.

The tone of the Men of Taylor Swift pictorials, such as this one by Access Hollywood, was always generally very respectful. The worst you could say is that the tone was fluffy and flippant, with the female journalist often pausing to gush over an outfit Taylor was wearing, how good her hair looked, and how handsome her men are. Her song lyrics were quoted and album and track titles referenced, alongside oohs and ahhs! by besotted woman writers who had always wondered what Joe Jonas or Harry Styles might be like in private.

However, lines from Swifts songbook were scattered about within the pictorials, showcasing her talent and ability to turn a great phrase, as well as her wonderful hair and handsome men.

The s-word was never used. When exactly, one wonders, was Taylor Swift a lightning rod for s**t-shaming?

House Of Fraser mocked over "Emojinal" campaign with Harry Styles and Gigi Hadid

House Of Fraser has been ridiculed on Twitter after it tweeted an "Emojinal" campaign featuring high-profile celebrities - with people questioning whether the brand"s social media had been hacked.

The Photoshopped images included Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner with a chicken emoji and a photo of Harry Styles and One Direction bandmates Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson celebrating the singer"s birthday with balloon, presents and a crown emoji.

But the social media drive has left many of the brand"s 306,000 followers confused - with one Twitter user claiming the person in charge of its Twitter must have "entrusted a 12-year-old with the password".

House Of Fraser"s "Emojinal" campaign tweeted photoshopped images of celebrities, it celebrated Harry Styles" birthday with balloon, presents and a crown emoji with One Direction bandmates Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson

In another image, it tweeted a photoshopped picture of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner with a chicken emoji, captioned the "chicks were out on the town" but it left many of the brand"s 306,000 followers wondering if the account had been hacked

House of Fraser started the campaign with a picture of Kim Kardashian, 35, with husband Kanye West and a large image of a peach over her posterior with the caption "Practice what you peach."

But many of the brand"s fans were left confused, with Andy Walters writing: "Have you been hacked?"

The shop wasn"t phased and continued to post the emoji-filled photos at random, from models Gigi Hadid, 20, and Kendall Jenner, 20, in a taxi with an emoji chicken, captioned: "Gigi Hadid and her chicks were out on the town this weekend."

And a happy birthday message to Harry Styles who turned 22 yesterday also featured plenty of present emojis and a crown on the birthday boy.

But overwhelmingly the reaction was negative. Holly Brockwell tweeted: "Emojinal is a masterclass on how to ruin a century-old upscale brand with one terrible social media campaign."

@Le_Petit_Cochon wrote on Twitter: "The person running the House Of Fraser Twitter account has entrusted a 12-year-old with the password. Make it stop."

The first image of the campaign showed Kim Kardashian-West with a large peach over her derriere and tweeted to her husband Kanye West

Twitter users seemed to think something had gone wrong with the account or it had been hacked while Holly Brockwell thought it had "ruined" the brand

While Emily Peacock wasn"t sure if the shop"s account had been hacked.

She posted: "If not - eek! Not classy guys."

And Jason Dexter had equally harsh words for the brand. He posted: "What"s worse? Someone pitched Emojinal or someone approved it."

And Neil Langridge even thought the shop would claim to have been hacked to explain the bizarre tweets.

He wrote: "What a mess the Emojinal campaign is. The inevitable "we got hacked" is not an excuse but has become default for a huge screw up."

But not everyone was a critic, Aaran Shardey posted he was a fan of the campaign.

Roxanne Parker used an image of Harry Styles with many unhappy emojis around him which the store had tweeted as part of the campaign to describe how "everyone" felt about it

And another of the brand"s tweets had Harry Styles with his head in his hands with plenty of shocked and devasted emojis around him.

Roxanne Parker tweeted the image and captioned: "The ironic use of House Of Fraser"s own campaign imagery to describe everyone"s reaction to their Emojinal PR stunt."

A spokesperson for the shop told City AM: "We wanted to try something less traditional for Valentine"s Day this year in order to engage with a younger audience."

The site has also devised an emoji-based quiz which wins shoppers 10 per cent off their purchases.

It"s not the first time the store, which was founded in 1849, has tried to modernise its image.

For the store"s Christmas advert last year, its offering looked more like a music video.

The store"s campaign, which was called "Your Christmas Your Rules", aimed to offer a refreshing antidote to the festive fuzzy norm.

"Celebrity Big Brother" star Megan McKenna says she is being stalked by an "ugly Harry Styles".

The "Celebrity Big Brother" star has reported the man - who apparently bears a likeness to the One Direction heartthrob - to police because she says he"s been following her for the past week to various locations around London and is "freaking" her out.

Taking to her Snapchat account last night (31.01.16), the brunette stunner uploaded a photograph of her alleged pursuer outside London club Cafe de Paris and branded him "an ugly Harry Styles" and told her followers: "Can I just all let you now that there"s some weirdo ugly version of Harry Styles that keeps following me."

Later, she added on Twitter: "Omg guys I"m being stalked by this weirdo. Ive reported to the police!! Been following me all week. It"s freaking me out.

"He"s jumping in the back of my pictures, he made the Daily Mail last week. As I"m walking out of Cafe de Paris tonight he"s only f**king waiting for me and jumped in another picture.(sic)"

Not one to shy away from a confrontation, the "Ex On The Beach" star approached her admirer outside of the club.

She explained: "Me and my girls had a massive row with this guy outside the club. He is on another level of weirdness, he has freaked me out. So if he does make the thing [the papers] tomorrow, please can you not think I"m dating some dirty, ugly, rat, scumbag. It"s actually getting creepy now because this guy is actually stalking me on a serious level."
