JONNA SPILBOR:OK,when I saw the video this is what I thought, ifyou"rea reporter chasing afterthe most popular candidate in ahigh-profile event amonghundreds of other reporters andyou don"t go home with bruisedelbows,or abruisedego,or both,you"re not doing your job.This is not a case where she shouldhaverun to the police after that, thisispart of the territory.
AINSLEYEARHARDT(CO-HOST): Part of the job.All right Evangeline, what do you think?
EVANGELINE GOMEZ: Well we have these laws in place to prevent civil disorder. And that"s what"s happening here. You want to make sure that youdon"t yank somebody or you don"t pull themout of the way simply because you want to prevent themfrom speaking to a candidate.You run forthehighest office inthe nation, you"re going to havereporters there.They"re going to ask you questions.That"s part of the game.
EARHARDT: All right well, she is just doing her job.As a reporter, I"ve been thereso many times.And you know, you see an opportunity whenthere aren"t any other reportersaround to get the candidate.You know you"ve got to go backto the newsroom, you"ve got tohave the story.You want that as a journalistbecause we work so hard.So I mean, do you think,and she wastalking on Megyn Kelly"s showthat she wanted an apology.What was your response to that?Did you hear that on March 16when she was on Megyn Kelly"s show?She said, I just want anapology.
GOMEZ: Exactly and I think what escalated afterthis situation was there was asmear campaign against her.And so she thoughtperhaps, hey,I"ve got to protect mycredibility here.And went through with filing acomplaint.Now, filing a complaint doesn"tmean that there are going to bechargesagainst you.Remember, there was an independentinvestigator who went, researchedeverything, and then decidedthere was probable cause andthen decided to proceed with thecharges.
