UFC 199 Athlete Outfitting pay: Title fights drive biggest payout in program history

INGLEWOOD, Calif.Fighters from Saturdays UFC 199 event took home UFC Athlete Outfitting pay, a program that launched after the UFCs deal with Reebok, totaling $297,500.

The amount marked the largest total issued at a single event since the programs inception.

In the nights main event, longtime UFC veteran Michael Bisping (29-7 MMA, 19-7 UFC) shocked the world, stepping in on a little more than two weeks notice and scoring a first-round knockout victory over Luke Rockhold (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) to claim the UFC middleweight title.

By entering the night as champ, Rockhold scored a $40,000 check while Bisping netted $30,000 as the challenger.

Meanwhile, in the nights co-feature UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz (22-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) also earned $40,000 while scoring a clear-cut unanimous-decision win over longtime rival Urijah Faber (33-8 MMA, 9-4 UFC), who took home $30,000 for his efforts.

UFC 199 took place Saturday at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Under the UFC Athlete Outfitting programs payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Reeboks multi-year sponsorship withthe UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighterswith 1-5 bouts receive $2,500 per appearance; 6-10 bouts get $5,000; 11-15 bouts earn$10,000; 16-20 bouts pocket$15,000; and 21 bouts and moreget $20,000. Additionally, champions earn $40,000 while title challengers get $30,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.
