TV Ratings: "60 Minutes" Trump Interview, Seahawks-Patriots Game Score

Down 31-24, Patriots execute 4th straight score

CBS 60 Minutes scored the first televised interview with president-elect Donald J. Trump Sunday night, but the telecast was delayed nearly half an hour in several large markets (including New York, Washington D.C., and Chicago), making Nielsens preliminary numbers subject to at least some adjustment in the finals. The initial results put the interview at a 3.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 18.77 million viewers. In the more-relevant-for-60 Minutes news demographic of 25-54, it drew a 4.3 rating.

NBCs Sunday Night Football didnt compete directly with 60 Minutes, but it did draw more than double the demo audience (a 6.5 rating) and 19.24 million viewers, from 8:30-11 p.m. (The game didnt end until around 11:45 p.m. on the East Coast.) The numbers, the best SNF ratings since the first week of the season, are at least a little encouraging for broadcast execs wondering whether NFL ratings would spend the rest of the season in a trough.

There are myriad reasons NFL ratings have been down from 2015, though primetime has born the brunt of the ratings point drops: Election fever, awful games, the drying of up the daily fantasy sports well. NBC finally caught a break from at least two of those factors Sunday night with a post-election Seahawks-Patriots match-up that delivered a tight game and a reversal of the result of the 2015 Super Bowl.

On Fox, football overrun (which drew 24.56 million viewers from 7-7:30 p.m. and an 8.1 demo rating) helped boost The Simpsons at 8 p.m. to a 3.1 demo rating and 7.13 million total viewers. Son of Zorn came in with a 1.6 and 3.67 million viewers. Family Guy matched its lead-in in the demo and brought in 3.57 million viewers. The Last Man on Earth drew a 1.1 and 2.63 million viewers.

On ABC, Once Upon a Time stayed low with a 0.9 in the demo and 3.37 million viewers. Secrets and Lies pulled in a 0.7 and 3.1 million viewers. Quantico matched that demo and drew an audience of 2.7 million.

CBS other three Sunday series are also subject to revision. NCIS: Los Angeles drew a 1.9 and 13.39 million viewers; Madam Secretary brought in a 1.1 and 9.38 million viewers, and Elementary came in with a 0.7 and 5.9 million viewers.

Friday

On CBS, MacGyver brought in a 1.1 in the demo and 7.7 million viewers. Hawaii Five-0 had a bigger week than usual with a 1.4 and 9.81 million viewers. Blue Bloods came in with a 1.3 and 10.18 million viewers.

On ABC, Last Man Standing tied MacGyver in the demo, but brought in 6.28 million viewers. Dr. Ken followed with a 0.9 and 4.44 million viewers. Shark Tank drew a 1.2 and 5.4 million viewers, and 20/20 weighed in with a 1.1 and 5.21 million viewers.

Likewise in the 8 oclock hour, Foxs Hells Kitchen tied with the MacGyver demo rating, but with only 3.31 million viewers. The Exorcist slid again to a 0.6 in the demo and 1.65 million viewers.

NBCs Caught on Camera did its now-usual 0.6 in the demo, with a total audience of 2.72 million viewers. Dateline brought in a 1.0 and 4.71 million viewers.

The CWs The Vampire Diaries held steady with a 0.4 and 1.02 million viewers. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend came in with a 0.2 and 550,000 viewers.

Saturday

The Dave Chappelle-hosted SNL episode Saturday night garnered the best metered market overnight ratings of the season for the show, with a 6.2 household rating and a 3.9 in the demo. That was also the best overnight rating for the show since Jimmy Fallon hosted on Dec. 211, 2013, with Justin Timberlake as musical guest.
