FC Barcelona vs PSG Five major takeaways

FC Barcelona: Trip to La Coruña

Football Club Barcelona made a historical comeback against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday by beating the French side 6-1 to reach the Champions League quarterfinals.

Sergi Robertos 95th minute strike gave his team a 6-5 victory on aggregate, making Barcelona the first side to overturn a 4-0 first-leg defeat since the current format started in the 1992-93 season.

The match has made it to the history books, along with Manchester Uniteds comeback against Bayern Munich in 1999 and Liverpools 2005 turnaround against AC Milan in Istanbul.

PSG seemed certain to go through after Edinson Cavani scored a valuable away goal in the second half, following Barcelonas opening salvo of three goals, before Neymar turned it all around.

Here are the five key takeaways

Neymar rises to the occasion

Neymar Jr hailed the best game of his career after Barcelona scored three times in the last seven minutes of the game. The Brazilian superstar received a lot of ball on the left wing because of Coach Luis Enriques new experimental lineup and the absence of Barcas first choice left-back Jordi Alba.

Despite the three goals in the first half, Barcelonas dreams were all but shattered after PSG striker Edinson Cavani scored in the 62nd minute, giving the French side a much-needed away goal. And that was it, the deafening silence in Camp Nou felt as if the dream was snatched from those 96,000 Catalan fans.

Then, it was time for Neymars Samba, when at the 88th minute mark, he reinforced that optimism with an astounding free kick. After Luis Suarez was brought down in the box in the 90th minute by PSG centre back Marquinhos. Neymar, cool as ice, stepped up for the penalty and placed it in the bottom corner. It was still not done and dusted, but in the dying embers of injury time, Neymar provided the cross and Sergi Roberto flicked it with his outstretched boot, sending the Catalan side into the quarter finals.

3-4-3 works

It was a subtle change by Barcas outgoing coach Luis Enrique that helped them turn things around. After the humiliating first leg 4-0 defeat at Parc des Princes, Enrique switched the team from traditional 4-3-3 to 3-4-3. Before PSG, Barcelona had beaten Atletico Madrid, Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo by using the new system.

The advantage of the 3-4-3 is that it gives us more space, more control in the midfield, it puts the defenders in a more fixed position, Luis Enrique said.

PSG still has a long way to go

After the first leg 4-0 rout of Barcelona, the concord was that Paris Saint-Germain had finally become a deadly force in the Champions League. All their hard work was undone during one unforgettable night at the Camp Nou.

The French champions conceded in the opening 120 seconds of the match and the scrappy defence deflected Andres Iniestas backheel for the second goal. Barcelona had tons of goalscoring chances throughout the game, the defence was pushed up into PSGs half and their high pressing, high risk strategy successfully choked PSG.

To top it all, the move that led to the last goal was a result of barcelonas goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegan being tackled in PSGs half.

No one-hero in Barcelonas star-studded performance

All the pre-match hush-hush had been about how Leo Messi who has been in a fine scoring form since the first leg defeat would turn this match around. Undoubtedly, Messi played a significant role in the historic win. The Argentine dropped back playing as an anchor between Neymar-Suarez-Rafinha led Barcas offence and the rest of the team.

Messi scored the matchs third goal by calmly converting a penalty. His presence was enough to keep the defence distracted but we saw a powerful team performance by his side.

Ter Stegan wasnt much busy but pulled few smooth saves. The three-man defence of Pique, Umtiti and Mascherano was rigid and resilient throughout, displaying composure at the back and technical ability on the ball too. While Sergio Busquets performance might be little worrisome for the team, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic handled the midfield amazingly with their tireless up-and-down performance.

In the front, the poacher Luis Suarez set the ball rolling with his early goal and was a menace throughout the crucial tie. Rafinha worked as a key drifter on the right flank. But of course, Neymar was absolutely sensational throughout the game.

Like a horror film

The scenes at Camp Nou last night were nothing short of a blockbuster. From a cracking start at the very beginning to a major turning point when Cavani scored to the climatic finale, the match was one twist after another.

This is a night which is difficult to explain in words, it had the script of a horror film with a spectacular start with an atmosphere which I have never seen in the Camp Nou, with tension I have never seen before, Luis Enrique said.

S se puede, s se puede, Barcelona fans chanted, which can roughly be translated to Yes we can, Yes we can.

The majestic Camp Nou exploded in ecstasy in the final minute when Sergi Roberto scored. As his teammates from the pitch and bench rushed towards the unlikely saviour, one man took a different path and peeled towards the fans.

It was the usually shy Leo Messi who dramatically rampaged towards the crazy mass, climbed on top of an advertising board and merged in the crowd.

The victory sent shockwaves across the footballing circles, the pundits and of course the social media.

The scenes from the BT Sport studio were unprecedented. Former Real Madrid forward Michael Owen could not contain his excitement alongside Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker and Steven Gerrard after the last minute goal. Owen even did a hysterical lap of the studio.

Real Madrid CF draw sends FC Barcelona on top of La Liga

FC Barcelona 2-1 Leganes - All Goals & Extended Highlights - La Liga 19/02/2017 HD

Barcelona moved top of La Liga on the night Luis Enrique confirmed he will not continue as coach next season as Gareth Bale was sent-off in Real Madrids thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Las Palmas.

Enrique announced his decision to step down after Barcas 6-1 rout of Sporting Gijon earlier on Wednesday which leaves Barcelona a point clear at the top, but having played a game more.

Bales first ever red card in a Madrid shirt look set to cost the European champions dear as Las Palmas led the 10 men 3-1 with just three minutes remaining.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice in an incredible finale to salvage a point.

Madrids slip up, though, means a third title in as many seasons for enrique is back in barcelonas hands with the two sides still to meet in April.

I will not be the coach of Barcelona next season, Enrique said, citing the need for a break from the pressures at the Camp Nou as the reason for his decision.

It is a difficult, measured and well thought out decision and I think I have to be loyal to what I think.

After Barca had swept aside Sporting with all of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar on the scoresheet, Madrid also looked in for an easy night at the Bernabeu when Isco slotted home the opener after just eight minutes.

However, Real were in front for just two minutes before Tana spun Sergio Ramos on the edge of the box before firing high past Keylor Navas.

The game turned just three minutes into the second-half when Bale uncharacteristically lost his temper after a late challenge from Jonathan Viera.

The Welshman pushed Viera to the ground and was punished with a red card.

He has apologised. He is not happy with the sending-off, said Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Things got much worse for the hosts in the next 10 minutes as, firstly, Viera converted from the penalty spot after a clear handball by Ramos inside the area.

And then a huge mistake from Navas allowed Kevin-Prince Boateng to knock the ball past the Costa Rican as he flew from his goal before rolling the ball into an empty net.

Ronaldo to the rescue

However, despite their numerical disadvantage, Madrid laid seige to the Las Palmas goal and were rewarded in the final minutes.

Ronaldo fired a penalty into the top corner after Dani Castellano was penalised for handball.

And the World Player of the Year then bulleted home a header from a corner a minute from time to salvage a point.

We are not leaders, but the league is still open and we are not going to give up, added Zidane.

Barca enjoyed a far more comfortable night against a Sporting side still mired in the relegation zone.

Messi netted his 36th goal in as many games this season in unusual fashion on his 500th start before Juan Rodriguezs own goal made it 2-0.

The visitors were handed a brief lifeline when Carlos Castro pulled a goal back.

However, there was no time for any Barca doubts to seep in as Suarezs spectacular volley restored their two-goal lead.

Paco Alcacer was given a rare chance for the second half as he replaced Suarez and took just four minutes to make it 4-1 when he slotted home from Messis pass.

Messi also hit the bar from a trademark free-kick before the five-time World Player of the Year was rested for the final half hour as he was replaced by Andre Gomes.

Neymar took advantage of the Argentines absence to take over free-kick duty and he produced a stunning strike of his own into the top corner for his first La Liga goal at the Camp Nou this season.

Ivan Rakitic completed the scoring when he lashed into the roof of the net three minutes from time.

Pep Lifts Lid On Ronaldinho Leaving Barca

Resumen de FC Barcelona vs Athletic Club (3-0)

Former FC Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has lifted the lid about legendary playmaker Ronaldinho leaving the club, with reports suggesting the Spaniard forced the Brazilian out.

Read:Reports: Messi Wants Star To Leave Barca

When Guardiola was promoted from Barcelonas B-side to take over the first team after Frank Rijkaard left the club in 2008, he reportedly didnt have the clubs fan favourite in his plans.

However, the Manchester City boss now insisted it was the Brazilian who decided it was the right time for him to leave the Catalan giants.

He was a spectacular player, Guardiola said, as quoted by Football Espana.

When we met for the first time, we discussed the possibility of him staying, but he decided that his cycle had come to an end.

Nine years after leaving the Camp Nou, Ronaldinho has now returned to the club and will represent Barcelona as an official club ambassador, as announced by the club.

Ronaldinho is a legend. When he came to Bara he made a name for himself around the world and he brought us success and admiration worldwide, president Josip Maria Bartomeu said in a club statement.

Ronaldinho also has a lot to offer us in terms of the FCBEscola soccer schools around the world.

We want him to help us teach children and for them to learn from him, most of all from his footballing qualities but also as a person.

He is a person who has very similar values to those that Bara hold and he has a winning mentality.

Report: Chinese and Qatari Teams Trying to Tempt FC Barcelona Target Darijo Srna

FC Barcelona arrive in Bilbao ahead of Copa del Rey clash

Darijo Srna is unsure about the relatively lower salary being offered by fc barcelona, and it may get even more complicated as Chinese and Qatari teams offer a kings ransom to lure the fullback, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.

The Barcelona paper has stated the one stumbling block towards the transfer of Srna to the Camp Nou is the reduced salary offer. Barcelona are already near reachingthe budget limit when it comes to salaries, and will not offer more.

With the Chinese and Qatari leagues awash in money, and Srna due to be a free agent soon, the report says many teams are making offers.

Of course, playing in China, Qatar, or Ukraine does not compare to playing for FC Barcelona. Thats why the Barcelona front office is asking him to consider the sporting side over concerns about moving to Catalonia or getting paid less.

FC Barcelona to play friendlies in India

FC Barcelona training ahead of Manchester City - FC Barcelona

Barcelona: FC Barcelonas first team will travel to India in order to play friendly matches, according to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

While cricket still remains the main sport in India, a number of top European football clubs have taken an interest in the South Asian nation, due to the growing popularity of football in the country.

The likes of Atletico Madrid and Liverpool FC have already made joint ventures with local sides.

Atletico Madrid have bought a stake in Indian Super League (ISL) side Atletico de Kolkata. The Kolkata-based franchise conducts their pre-season training in Spain with the help of the Rojiblancos.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC have a joint venture with I-League side DSK Shivajians, to give technical help to their youth academy Liverpool International Academy.

German giants Bayern Munich have an academy in India, and have even taken promising 11-year-old Chandan Nayak to Germany for further training. Bayern have also played a few friendlies in India, with the most prominent of them being legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahns farewell match against local giants Mohun Bagan, in 2006.

Following the success of these two clubs, Barcelona are also ready to increase their presence in India. According to reports, the Blaugrana are also eager to bring their first team squad to India, in order to play a few friendly matches during the off-season.

However, Barcelona already have a packed schedule, and would only be able to come to India after a couple of years.

The Barca president also revealed that the club spends around 20 million on their famous L Masia academy, every year.

FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush Review

Rueda de prensa íntegra de Luis Enrique (19/08/2016)

When I initially heard the title FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush, I assumed the game was some sort of soccer simulation. I was wrong. Although the main characters are soccer superstars, FCB Ultimate Rush is actually an endless runner geared towards every gamer. Available on Poki, this game is very well-designed, and it has a deep questing and reward system thats got me downright addicted.

The premise is simple: run, collect gold, and dont get hit. Fans of the endless runner genre will know exactly how to play instantly. You can run left and right to dodge big obstacles, leap over short ones, and slide underneath overhead dangers. But, FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush (you can play it But, FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush (you can play it here) has a few tricks up its sleeve. During each run, your player can pick up soccer b***s. Then, when a bulls-eye is visible on a crate, you can kick the ball through the box. Hit the target for a big reward, and repeat. Theres also a special bonus round that begins in the middle of certain runs. Your athlete will magically appear in the middle of Camp Nou. Surrounded by thousands of cheering fans, you can jump to perform perfect headers and score even more.

Most endless runners dont feature a handful of the worlds best athletes. FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush is an exception, containing real superstars, including Lionel Messi and Neymar Junior. Even if you dont follow Spains legendary football club, its hard not to like these players. Each athlete, from Bravo to Suarez, has a special skill for better performances. Many of the skills can be thought of as power-ups, providing a quick boost of energy or strength during a run. After amassing enough gold, you can level up each skill to set even higher scores.

A major aspect of FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush is the quest campaign. There are multiple challenges within nearly 20 different quests. These include collections of small, attainable goals, such as gathering 150 coins or hitting 6 targets during one run. Much like a campaign in an RPG, the quests in this game are stepping stones towards a bigger goal. They start out easy and gradually become more and more difficult. In order to complete the mid-level and advanced quests, you must have a healthy squad of upgraded players.

Scratchers add another fun element to the game. Perhaps better known as scratch cards, these fun mini-games give you the chance to win additional rewards. You can earn scratchers by finishing quests and individual challenges. Scratchers are a lot of fun because the odds of winning are quite favorable. I seem to get at least a small reward nearly every time I play.

Certain games have unstoppable mass appeal. If youre not a soccer player or FIFA fan, dont worry; you dont need to know a thing about soccer to enjoy FC Barcelona Ultimate Rush. Instead, enjoy this game for what it is: a slick, entertaining endless runner thats loosely based around the best soccer players in Spain.

FC Barcelona will open a soccer school in Charlotte

F2 TRAIN WITH FC BARCELONA - MESSI, SUAREZ, PIQUE, TURAN & TER STEGEN! Learn the Barça Way with Beko

As part of a push to expand its U.S. presence, Spanish giant FC Barcelona is opening an official soccer school in Charlotte this fall, and tryouts are set to begin in a few weeks.

FCBEscola is open to boys and girls 6-12 years old, FC Barcelona said in a recent statement. The first tryouts are May 13-14, May 27-28 and June 10-11, and the fall season runs Aug. 15-Nov. 23.

The club is working with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation on the location, though south Charlotte is most likely because thats where it has the most players interested, spokesman Rut Vilar said.

The school will not only help local players experience firsthand the best international, professional and developmental soccer pathway, but will also help put Charlotte on the global soccer stage, said Marc Segarra, co-founder of ISL Futbol, a global sports management company partnering with FC Barcelona on its U.S. expansion.

FCBEscola in Charlotte will be the second FC Barcelona soccer academy in the U.S. The club opened FCBEscola Miami School in 2014.

In addition to the schools, FC Barcelona is also organizing summer camps in nine U.S. cities, including Charlotte and Raleigh. The summer camp runs in two sessions, June 13-17 and June 20-24, each 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Those interested can learn more here: http://academy.fcbarcelona.us.

Additionally, the club said, certain players could be selected for an FCB Experience, which is a trip to Barcelona to practice and play at the FC Barcelona Ciutat Esportiva. They will also participate in the International FCBEscola Soccer Tournament, in which players from the clubs different schools around the world compete.

The club said to help establish the authenticity and legitimacy of the school, a director, several former FC Barcelona players and professional coaches will work full-time to establish residency in Charlotte.

In March, Charlotte Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble said he met with Barcelona officials about the prospects of the team playing a summer exhibition at Bank of America Stadium this year.
