Americas game the story of the 2015 Denver Broncos x264
Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson was placed on injured reserve and Juwan Thompson was promoted from the practice squad to add depth at the position.
Anderson underwent an arthroscopic procedure to repair meniscus damage in his right knee. A timetable for his return hasn"t yet been determined but the decision to place him on injured reserve means he would have to miss at least eight games.
Anderson, who has a team-high 437 rushing yards, tweeted his sentiments shortly after the surgery.
"Surgery was a super success been resting all day. FaceTime all my teammates got some good laughs #blessed love them boys"
Anderson rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries during Monday night"s 27-9 victory over the Houston Texans despite suffering the injury late in the first quarter. He said he felt his knee buckle slightly while planting his right foot.
Rookie Devontae Booker will start Sunday"s contest against the San Diego Chargers. Kapri Bibbs will be the backup. Juwan Thompson will likely be elevated from the practice squad to be the third back.
Booker, who was a college standout at Utah, rushed for 83 yards against the Texans.
"Book"s had a really good week, Kapri"s had a really good week. Kapri has a lot on his plate as a special-teams player, too, and obviously we"re trying to prepare Juwan," head coach Gary Kubiak said of the depth chart at running back.
"The thing about Juwan is he kind of plays two spots, too. He"s played some halfback and played well, and we"ve been having him work at fullback. Obviously he"s been working really, really hard here and we"re going to have to make a decision."
ESPN First Take - Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons : Who Wins?
The Denver Broncos are getting starting QB Trevor Siemian back Thursday night, just days after the defending champions" first loss of the season.
Siemian said Tuesday he expected to be ready to start against the San Diego Chargers this week and early Thursday morning, ESPN"s Adam Schefter reported that a team official had told him that would indeed be the case.
No big surprise, but Broncos" QB Trevor Siemian will start tonight vs Chargers after missing Sunday"s game vs Falcons with shoulder injury.

Siemianhurt his non-throwing shoulder in a Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was held out against the Atlanta Falcons the following Sunday.
Rookie Paxton Lynch started in his place, throwing for 223 yards with a TD and an interception in a 23-16 loss.
Falcons vs. Broncos (Week 5) | Game Highlights | NFL
The Denver Broncos are Super Bowl champions. Theyre winners, simply put, and they have been for a long time. So, youd think losing would be especially debilitating.
Well, these arent your typical champions.
Yes, this group has been to two Super Bowls in the last three seasons, theyve experienced extreme success and are well-respected across the league, but that doesnt mean they havent faced their fair share of tough times. In fact, the Denver Broncos have persevered through crippling losses, embarrassing performances and questionable coaching, and every time they cameback stronger than ever.
A two-game losing streak is not fun, but its nothing more than that: a two-game losing streak.
This team knows how to rebound, and they plan on doing just that.

Trevor Siemian is Peyton Mannings successor.
Denver Broncos Coach Gary Kubiak told the team Monday that Siemian would be the starting quarterback in the season opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 8. Siemian will be the first quarterback with zero passing attempts to take over a defending Super Bowl champion in Week 1.
Kubiak informed Siemian, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch of his decision before telling their teammates at their morning meeting.
Siemian, a seventh-round selection out of Northwestern last year, has just one N.F.L. snap on his rsum, a kneel-down when he was the No. 3 quarterback last year behind Manning and his longtime backup Brock Osweiler. Manning retired a month after Denvers 24-10 win over the Panthers in Super Bowl 50, and Osweiler left for Houston 48 hours later.
General Manager John Elway quickly acquired Sanchez from the Eagles and drafted Lynch in the first round. The Broncos are expected to cut Sanchez.
JETS HARRIS UNCERTAIN FOR OPENER Jets Coach Todd Bowles said it was too early to know whether linebacker David Harris (shoulder) would be available for the Sept. 11 season opener against Cincinnati. Harris sustained a bad bruise, Bowles said, on the final defensive snap before halftime in the Jets preseason game against the Giants.
Harris, who did not practice Monday, has not missed a game since 2008. BEN SHPIGEL
CHARGERS TOP PICK REACHES ACCORD Defensive end Joey Bosa, San Diegos top pick, ended his monthlong holdout when he signed a four-year contract.
The team announced the signing five days after the two sides went public in their spat over payment of Bosas $17 million signing bonus and whether the contract would have offset language. Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick out of Ohio State, was the last rookie to sign. The deal came a day after San Diegos defense played poorly in a 23-10 exhibition loss at Minnesota.
BASEBALLPorcello Wins His 18th for the Red Sox
Rick Porcello became the majors first 18-game winner and the first Red Sox pitcher in 70 years to open a season 13-0 in Fenway Park, going seven solid innings in Bostons 9-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Porcello (18-3) allowed three runs and six hits, striking out seven.
Mookie Betts hit his 30th homer, a solo shot, and drove in two runs for the Red Sox.
BLUE JAYS TOP ORIOLES Josh Donaldson hit his fourth homer in two days and Jose Bautista also went deep in support of Marco Estrada, leading the Toronto Blue Jays over the Orioles, 5-1.
Toronto leads Boston by two games and third-place Baltimore by four games in the American League East.
OLYMPICSPolice Seize Sports Offices in Kuwait
The authorities in Kuwait ordered the police to seize the states Olympic committee offices and the soccer association in the latest round of a sporting power struggle.
The action on Sunday heightened a standoff that has led to Kuwaits being suspended by the International Olympic Committee and by FIFA, soccers governing body, since October. Kuwait did not take part in this years Rio Olympics and will not contest the qualifiers for soccers 2018 World Cup.
The move came after the governments sports commission ousted Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Sabah as head of the Kuwait Football Association and the national Olympic committee. (AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE)
SUPER BOWL REMATCH!! Madden 17 Gameplay - Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos (XB1/PS4 1080p 60fps)
DENVER -- Adidas did not analyze pro-football odds when creating its advertising slogan a few years ago.
Impossible is something when trying to make the NFL. It"s ridiculously hard. And landing with the Broncos increases the level of difficulty. Beyond the defense, the Broncos won Super Bowl 50 (the display pictured above is featured outside of Sports Authority (For Now) Field at Mile High) because of their depth. The Broncos are the NFL"s Noah Ark of defenses: they have two of everything. Or so it seems.
As such, Saturday night"s game against the San Francisco 49erscarries added significance for players on the bubble. Let"s a take a look at a few in my Three Things to Watch For:
Is Zaire Anderson ready to take next step?
Every timeI looked up in training camp, it seemed like Anderson or cornerback Lorenzo Doss was making a play. Anderson nearly made the team last year out of Nebraska. His lack of size showed up against proven NFL running backs like Chris Johnson. He appears sturdier this season, and quicker in pass coverage. He"s putting himself in position to win a reserve spot.
Are the young safeties this good?
The Broncos lost games to the Steelers and Raiders last season, which placed them on the brink of missing the playoffs, because of lacking depth at safety. That shouldn"t be a problem this season if camp can be trusted. Justin Simmons, who should fill a David Bruton role, and Will Parks, a late-round pick from Arizona, have been strong. Parks" development bears watching with Shiloh Keo suspended for the first two games. Parks could make Keoexpendable at some point.
What"s up in the return game?
Jordan Norwood remains the safe choice. He can catch a punt, no easy task. And he has the ability to make plays. But is he as slippery as Bralon Addison or Kalif Raymond? Addison and Raymond must make their move if they are going to unseat the veteran. And it begins tonight.
