The 2015 Hillcrest Fat Tuesday celebration will be held Feb. 17. from 6-11 p.m.

This years event sponsors include Bud Light, SKYY Vodka and Viejas Resort and Casino. The VIP tent with a food buffet is returning and ticket prices for general admission have been lowered.

VIP tickets are $50 and $75 the day of and include access to a private VIP area, a delightful Cajun buffet plus a private bar with two alcoholic drinks and tons of beads. Food is being supplied by Babycakes, East Coast Pizza, Fiesta Cantina and Urban Mos.

General admission tickets are $15 and $20 the day of and include entry into the Fat Tuesday Party, beads, glow sticks and access to gourmet food vendors, the Fat Tuesday lounge and two bars.

The Mardi Gras themed event has been taking place in Hillcrest for 13 years and has raised over $130,000. The proceeds from the event are split between the Hillcrest Business Association and the GSDBA Charitable Foundation.

The GSDBA Charitable Foundation gives out scholarships to LGBT college students. We have helped many college students over the last 13 years, said Stampp Corbin, president of the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. In fact, we have given scholarships to some household names in the San Diego community like Councilman Todd Gloria and District Three Council candidate Christopher Ward. Other than nominal insurance expenses, all of the proceeds directly benefit young adults who are pursuing their college dream, Corbin continued. Over 50 students have received scholarships through the years.

The HBA uses its proceeds from the event for beautification projects in the Hillcrest community.

Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain holds Chelsea

Story highlights
  • European Champions League last 16 began Tuesday
  • Paris Saint-Germain holds Chelsea 1-1 in French capital
  • Branislav Ivanovic scores crucial away goal
  • Shakhtar Donetsk finishes goalless at home to Bayern Munich

Follow us at @CNNSport and like us on Facebook

Paris Saint-Germain was held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Chelsea in the French capital, while Bayern Munich finished goalless in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk.

PSG will be the most annoyed -- Laurent Blanc's side had chance after chance to win the tie and put a dent in Chelsea's Champions League hopes.

In the end, Edinson Cavani's strike ensured parity after Branislav Ivanovic, the Serbia defender, had given the visitors a first half lead.

It could have been so different for the home side had it not been for Thibaut Courtois, the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Courtois denied PSG time and time again, much to delight of his manager, Jose Mourino.

"We could have lost, so I think the result is a positive one," Mourinho told ITV.

"I don't say very good because it depends on the result of the second leg but it is a positive result against a very good team with fantastic technical players. It was a difficult match.

Asked if Chelsea got away with it, he added: "When you see the performance of our goalkeeper you have to say yes, he made two or three important saves in the game.

"I am happy with the result because two legs is now one leg with everything to be decided at Stamford Bridge."

Mourinho, who is hoping to become the first man to win the competition with three different clubs, cut a relieved figure at the full time whistle.

Time and time again the visitors were indebted to its goalkeeper, Courtois, who produced a number of fine stops to deny the French champion.

At just 22, it's frightening to think how good the Belgian could become.

Here, against a PSG side determined to take some sort of lead to Stamford Bridge in three weeks time, he ensured Chelsea got out of jail.

Laurent Blanc's men began the better of the two teams and Courtois was forced into action within the first 10 minutes.

Cavani, seemingly constantly linked with a move to England, found space on the left and when his cross was headed powerfully towards goal by Blaise Matuidi, Courtois was forced to fly into action.

The Belgian goalkeeper was soon busy again, this time saving from Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the forward's header bounced towards goal, while Cavani also went close with an effort which was tipped away.

Chelsea, seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, slowly began to grow into the contest but it still came as something of a surprise when it took a 36th minute lead.

John Terry, the captain, crossed from the left and after Gary Cahill had flicked the ball on, Ivanovic rose unopposed to head the ball into the far corner.

That goal was harsh on the home side, which emerged revitalized after the interval and was soon level.

Matuidi, one of the most impressive performers on the field, found space on the left and his cross was headed home by the unmarked Cavani.

Chelsea, normally solid and resolute in defense, was struggling to repel the French champion and Courtois was forced to save from Ibrahimovic once again as the Swede waltzed his way through the defense.

Cavani, alert to the rebound, thought he was set to give side the lead when the ball broke, but his effort was blocked by Csar Azpilicueta.

PSG, third in its domestic league, continued to dominate and Cavani wasted a glorious opportunity with 10 minutes remaining when he slid his effort inches wide of the far post.

Ibrahimovic might have stolen a dramatic winner at the death but his header was brilliantly tipped away by the overworked Courtois.

Chelsea will now be confident of progressing to the quarterfinal stage with the second leg to come at Stamford Bridge in three weeks time.

Last season, it was beaten 3-1 in Paris at the quarterfinal stage before recovering to win the second leg 2-0 and progress on the away goals rule.

At least this time it heads home level and with designs on the last eight.

"Both teams were feeling each other in the first half," said Chelsea captain Terry.

"Thibaut Courtois pulled off some great saves and we go away with a happy draw.

"Last year we made it very difficult for ourselves but we are in a lot better position now.

"PSG keep the ball very well, David Luiz's range of passing is very good so they were able to stretch us but I thought it was very even tonight.

"Branislav Ivanovic has been different class defensively this year and always has been, attacking he always poses a great threat."

In the night's other game, Bayern Munich was held to a goalless draw by Shakhtar Donetsk in Lviv.

It was a frustrating night for the 2013 winner which had Xabi Alonso sent off in the second half.

The Spanish midfielder, who was celebrating the occasion of his 100th appearance in the competition, was dismissed with 25 minutes remaining after picking up a second yellow card.

Shakhtar, which is forced to play its Champions League home games over 1,200 kilometers away from its home stadium because of the ongoing conflict in the region, had not played a competitive fixture since December following the winter break.

Chevy Chase: After 'Saturday Night Live,' too mean to succeed

From almost the moment Saturday Night Live first aired, the media swooned at the sight of Chevy Chase. New York magazine slapped him on the cover, declaring he was the next Johnny Carson. He did an op-ed for the New York Times, in which he introduced himselfas: Chevy Chase is Chevy Chase and youre not. All throughout 1975,the cleft chin was everywhere.

Then, in an interview with Vogue, a moment of introspection struck. In this business you can come and go in a second, he confessed, according to Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live. I could be flushed out tomorrow with a big smile and a handshake.

On Sunday night, Chase, 71, appeared flushed out. The night was the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, and things got awkward. There was Carson Daly, a barrage of cameras, and Chevy Chase, who seemed confused about where he was and what this was all about.

Is Chevy Chase Okay? Gawker asked. It was an appropriate question.

Daly informed Chase that he was once a part of Saturday Night Live, which seemed to surpriseChase, who mulled the matter for a long moment. I was! he said, looking shaky. I dont think we really knew, it was late night and we knew we could do things you usually couldnt do in earlier night.

Daly asked whether Chasewas surprised the show has been on for 40 years. I left after the first year because I thought this isnt going anywhere, Chase said. I liked [hosting]. I liked it. But I missed it more for not being a part of the cast because I left after one year. I had reasons to leave. Im sorry if Im perspiring, but I just had to run through a gauntlet. But I liked it a lot, and I still like it.

The short interview hinted at Chases tortured history with Saturday Night Live. The show made Chase turnedan all-but unknown writer into an intrinsic part of the American zeitgeist but also made himunlikable. The ugly truth is that a lot of people dont love Chevy Chase, Entertainment Weekly once said. They dont even like him. This isnt really surprising, because apparently the man possesses a truly spectacular talent for p*****g people off.

While other SNL cast members of Chases era comedianslike Bill Murray or Dan Aykroyd went on to become institutions, Chase never quite cashed in on his early promise. He was supposed to be the next coming of Carson. But instead, Chase turned in some popular early movies, then fizzled. There was lots of potential, but not enough payout.

If theres a reason for that, reports suggest, its Chase himself. He wasa victim of too much success too fast during his year on Saturday Night Live, which gave rise to such ego that todayhes as remembered for bridges burnedas for punchlines delivered.

When you become famous, youve got like a year or two where you act like a real ahole, GawkerquotedMurray saying of Chase. You cant help yourself. It happens to everybody. Youve got like two years to pull it together or its permanent.

And Chase particularly had trouble pulling it together.Nobody prepares you for what happens when you get famous, and I didnt handle it well, hetoldEntertainment Weekly in 2012. I was young, new, hot star and I had this unbelievable arrogance. As time went on, the strident narcissism and arrogance slowly diminished. But I was definitely there. Im older now. And a big crybaby.

Chasewas never supposedto be a star. He was supposed be a writer. But after the first show, accordingto Grantland, a decision was made. Sign him up, one NBC executive said, and soon people began to forget that it wasnt called The Chevy Chase Show as his talk show, which failed in 1993 after five weeks, would be but Saturday Night Live. At one point, NBC put a poster of the cast members up in the lobby outside 8H, writers Doug Hill and Jeff Weingrad said. Chevys picture loomed larger than the rest, and the caption read: Chevy Chase and the Not Ready For Prime Time Players.

It went to Chases head.My first impression of Chevy was the he was really good-looking, but kind of mean, fellow SNL cast member Laraine NewmantoldEntertainment Weekly. He teased in the way that a big brother would, [aiming for] exactly what would hurt your feelings the most. I say this as someone who loves him. And loves him a lot. (Two decades later, he so disparaged a femalewriterin an SNL meeting that Will Ferrell wondered if he took too many back pills that day or something.)

He was also a viciously effective put-down artist, the sort who could find the one thing somebody was sensitive about a pimple on the nose, perhaps and then kid about it, mercilessly, according to Hill and Weingrad. One person who got the treatment was Murray, with whom he famously feuded, tellingthe future Oscar nominee his face looked like something Neil Armstrong had landed on.

Chases tenureon Saturday Night Live, despite his dazed smile on Sunday night, was not a happy one. He reportedly played one agent off another, had a falling out with producer Lorne Michaels and came to believe that he was bigger than the show.

So when a sketch writer approached Chase to ask why he was leaving, Chase reportedlyhad one answer. Money, he said. Lots of money.

Chase, of course, went on to a successful run in film. He hit the links in Caddyshack (1980). He went on Vacation (1983). He was Fletch (1985). He was one of The Three Amigos (1986.)

But while these movies are comedy classics of the late 20th century quoted by junior-high boys, played ad nauseum on cable they didnt take Chase to the next level. Murray, his former rival, is now an American icon, working regularly with big names like Sofia Coppola, Jim Jarmusch and Wes Anderson. Chase works on the small screen when he can. In 2012, he walked off of the set of his last high-profile gig, Community.

When Chase mentioned areturn to the show a few months ago, executives shrugged.

At this time, Chevy is not confirmed to appear in Season 6, a Sony spokesman told Us Weekly.

Today, Chase is as much the object of jokes as he is the one making them. You made us laughso much, PaulShaffer saidat a notoriously venomous roast of Chase in 2002. And then inexplicably stopped in about 1978.

"Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 40th year on the air, and in that time, the show has been known to lampoon presidents on both sides of the aisle. From Chevy Chase as President Ford to Jay Pharoah as President Obama, heres a look at some of SNLs best presidential impersonations. (Julie Percha/The Washington Post)

6 injured when SUV vaults I-495 guard rail in Marlboro

MARLBORO For the second time in three days, a vehicle ran over a guardrail of a major highway, plunging to the ground.

At 1:18 p.m. Sunday, state police were called to Interstate 495 southbound, south of Exit 25, on a report of a vehicle that had gone off the highway, over the guardrail and landed just off Berlin Road in Marlboro.

State police Lt. Daniel Richard said troopers found a 2003 Toyota Sequoia resting on its side.. Inside were six adults, including the driver, a 44-year-old woman from Worcester.

All six victims were taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center University Campus in Worcester with minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by Trooper Kristopher Malm from the state police barracks in Leominster.

On Friday, a pickup truck attempting to avoid another car while merging lanes on Interstate 290 in Worcester rode up a snowbank, over a guardrail and fell 30 feet off a wall. The driver may owe his survival to deep snow on the ground where his truck landed.

Lt. Richard said because there is so much snow some guardrails are covered. Instead of stopping a car that hits a guardrail, in some cases the vehicles can ride up the snow and off the road.

Go behind the scenes of The Bachelor with News 8

This is Season 19 of The Bachelor, but this show keeps finding ways to mix things up. This season stars Chris Soules, an Iowa farmer, as The Bachelor. Hes a low-key, down to earth guy who seems like hes really trying to find the right girl who is willing to uproot her life and move to the small town of Arlington, Iowa.

SHOW PRODUCTION

Our day with The Bachelor started with a drive to Des Moines, where ABC producers invited News 8 cameras to follow along during a group date. We reported to the Wells Fargo Arena on that Sunday afternoon in October, where three ladies would be on a group ice skating date with Chris. Two other women had already had one-on-one dates in the days earlier, including Whitneys mural date in Des Moines and Jades trip to Chris high school in Arlington for a Friday night football game. Six women remained when Sundays episode started and only fourwould go on to hometown dates.

What viewers at home dont realize is the shooting schedule. The show makes it seem that there is one rose ceremony every week, with dates falling on random days leading up to it. According to blogger Reality Steve, the show started filming on September 25. We were in Des Moines to film parts of Episode 7 on Sunday, October 26. That translates to seven episodes, seven rose ceremonies in fourweeks time. By now the girls have known Chris basically one month.

Reality Steve also reports that the final rose ceremony was filmed on November 24. That means if Chris proposes he will have known the lucky lady for exactly 2 months. Hows that for a whirlwind?

MEETING CHRIS AND THE GIRLS

Back in Des Moines, two members of the production crew met us outside the arena and guided us to an upper box inside the area. Looking down on the ice, I could see Chris and the three ladies, Carly, Kaitlyn and Britt skating in circles. The place was entirely empty otherwise and dead silent, other than the sound of hockey sticks smacking the ice.

A producer was assigned to stay with us while we set up and waited for Chris. When he came around the corner to meet us, the first thing I noticed was how WHITE his teeth are. Blindingly, Bachelor white. He was also taller than I expected. As a 511 tall woman, I was surprised to see that even in heels, he was taller than me by a few inches.

I had a few notes jotted down, questions that I didnt want to forget to ask Chris, including a fun lightning round of all the Iowa questions I wanted him to answer. In short, hes a Chicago Bears, Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan (despite graduating from Iowa State!). He also prefers Luke Bryan over Lady Gaga, boots over tennis shoes, corn dogs and beer at the Iowa State Fair, and hes open to the possibility of a TV wedding.

Ill be proud of that day, he told me. Chris was kind and gracious and genuinely seemed to still be a bit bewildered by the fact that hes now The Bachelor.

You may be wondering what was going on with the girls while Chris was talking with us. The date kept on going on the ice. The girls were still skating around without him during this time, but thats not uncommon during Bachelor dates. Before, during and after the days activities, both Chris and the cast will step away for what are known as ITMs or In The Moments. These become the interviews that you see throughout the show, the girls expressing how theyre feeling as the date goes along, what theyre expecting and sometimes a few snarky comments about what the other girls are doing or saying. They serve as pacers and narrators throughout the action. For that reason, something that appears to take a few minutes on the show may need hours of filming.

The production staff also let us interview Carly and Kaitlyn. Carly Waddell is a cruise ship singer from Arlington, Texas. It turns out she has a family connection to The Bachelor. Her brother, Zak Waddell was a finalist on Des season of The Bachelorette, season 9. After watching her brothers experience on the show, Carly said she wanted to try her luck at love on The Bachelor. She skipped Juan Pablos season simply because her brother had known Juan Pablo from The Bachelorette but jumped at the chance to meet Chris.

Ive never been so excited, she told us. I was calling everyone and freaking out, saying you have to let me meet this man. I know how much we would get along, I can see it.

Kaitlyn Bristowe is a dance instructor from Vancouver, Canada. She told us about having a thing for farm boys, which is what attracted her to Chris. She also told us that shes given him a secret nickname, Silent Thunder.

Hes really funny, but he doesnt show it very often, she said. So when I pull it out of him, I realize, oh, hes funny too.

Production staffers told us there wasnt time left to interview Britt, a bummer because I really do want to know if she showers!

BACHELOR TOURISM

Its clear that the goal of this season is to stay true to Chris and his true off-camera lifestyle. By Episode 7, the show has not travelled anywhere outside the U.S. After leaving Los Angeles and the Bachelor mansion, the women went to Santa Fe, New Mexico then Deadwood, South Dakota, and now Des Moines, Iowa. For comparisons sake, consider that in the last season, Juan Pablo was with the women in Vietnam for episode 5, New Zealand in episode 6, and Miami, Florida in episode 7. When Chris appeared on The Bachelorette, he and Andi were in Marseille, France for episode 6 and Venice, Italy for episode 7.

Staying close to home offers a big opportunity for the city of Des Moines. Greg Edwards, President and CEO of the Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (www.catchdesmoines.com) said the organization offered the show $70,000 to offset the costs of production. Essentially, its an investment in good faith that the show will highlight the beauty and culture of the city as the backdrop for this Bachelor story. The shows production crew chose the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel as its headquarters. Edwards said the show had asked the hotel to comp the entire cost of the stay, but the hotel compromised with a generous discount. Youll see the hotel during several of the scenes during Episode 7. Edwards called the show a great marketing opportunity, given that theyre both after the same demographic women between the ages of 25-54.

A two-hour episode showcasing a community on a national level is huge exposure, Edwards said. Trying to buy that kind of advertising time would be way more expensive.

He admitted some concern about how Iowa might be portrayed on the show.

Iowa is certainly proud of our agricultural history, but thats now what Des Moines is all about. We are a hip city thats very cultural, he said.

The CVBs ultimate goal is driving more visitors to Des Moines. In the days, weeks and months after the show airs, they can track web and social media activity, plus get feedback from hotels and businesses.

People will travel here to see the city the way The Bachelor did it, Edwards said.

The mural of Chris and Whitney is on the side of a bar/restaurant on Court Ave. in Des Moines. I asked Todd Millang, Senior Vice President of Hubbell Commercial about the future of that mural.

I can say that we plan on keeping the mural for the foreseeable future on the wall. We also plan on adding additional murals starting in the spring, he said. When we bought the building, we wanted to use that big canvas of a wall for some local art, and this happened to be a great way to kick that off.

THE DATES

For people not on a television show, a date consists of you meeting someone, going out to dinner or drinks or a movie. You have some conversation, get to know each other and call it a night. Not on The Bachelor. After watching the women ice skate and try to be playful with Chris for more than two hours, I left with the impression that even deep into the shows process, it all felt very impersonal. When you consider that over the course of two months, these women have such limited time with Chris, skating around casually is hardly quality time with a man you are hoping will propose to you in a matter of weeks.

Three women were on this date, with at least as many cameras following their every move. There were a few producers on the ice along with the cameras, along with guys holding sound equipment. Off the ice, a row of producers sat watching what each of the cameras was shooting on small television monitors. Chris disappeared and reappeared, likely off shooting ITMs. Each time he would come back, producers would help him lace up his skates before getting back on the ice to skate around with his dates

BACHELOR SUCCESS STORIES

Its anyones guess who Chris will choose at the end of this journey, but not to be a downer, the odds are stacked against them. In 19 seasons of The Bachelor only ONE man has gone on to marry the woman he chose. Thats Sean Lowe from Season 17, who married Catherine Guidice in 2014. Jason Mesnick also married a woman from his season of the show, Molly Melaney. But you may recall that he actually chose Melissa Rycroft first before asking Molly for a second chance during the After the Final Rose. Jason and Molly have been married since 2010. Stats are better for women on the Bachelorette after 10 seasons. Trista married Ryan Sutter after the first season back in 2003. Ashley Hebert married J.P. Rosenbaum in 2012 and Des Hartsock recently married Chris Siegfried in January.

WHY I WATCH THE BACHELOR

Ive been watching The Bachelor since Jake Pavelkas season- the pilot who chose the villain, Vienna, leading to an explosive break-up on After the Final Rose. Bachelor after Bachelorette, what really gets me coming back for a new season of extreme dates and over-the-top emotions arethe human elements: why people sign up to begin with, how they come to fall in love with someone they have only known for a few weeks, and what happens to them when they leave the show. Therefore, abehind the scenes look at The Bachelor during filming in Iowa was a great assignment for me.
