St. Louis Cardinals 3, Minnesota Twins 2 - same as night before

ST. LOUIS -- Barely halfway through June, the Twins must want this godforsaken month to end as soon as possible.

Tuesday's disappointment came in the form of a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at soggy Busch Stadium.

In an afternoon game marred by two rain delays totaling 92 minutes, the Twins fell by an identical score to the one from the night before.

"A couple of fairly well-played games here," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "St. Louis, we know, has a knack for finding a way to win those kinds of games."

The Cardinals, improving baseball's best record to 43-21, showed repeatedly how fundamentally sound they are in all facets. The Twins, falling to 4-11 for the month, had too many small breakdowns, mostly at the plate, and that added up to more frustration when facing the sport's best.

Against teams with losing records entering Tuesday, the Twins were a sterling 22-11. That computes to a winning percentage of .667.

Against winning teams, however, they have struggled to a 12-19 mark (.387). That includes a combined 5-13 mark against their two main division rivals, the Kansas City Royals (3-6) and Detroit Tigers (2-7).

The Twins also dropped a three-game series over the weekend on the road against the surging Texas Rangers at the start of this 1-4 road trip.

"It's more winning and losing for me, not so much who we're playing against," Molitor said. "If you look around, there's a lot of parity. There are not a lot of teams that are tearing it up other than (the Cardinals)."

Tuesday marked the 10th time in 15 June games the Twins had been held to two runs or fewer.

"We're being competitive still and not playing our best baseball," Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson said. "At some point the hard line drives aren't going to be right at people, the hard ground b***s are going to go through and before you know it we're going to rattle off five or six in a row."

Trevor Plouffe put the Twins on top with a two-out single off Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (9-2) in the first. That scored Brian Dozier, who singled and stole second.

Gibson (4-5) worked the first six innings and turned in his first quality start since May 24 at Chicago, but he wasn't able to make two key pitches when he needed them.

Yadier Molina opened the second with a double, moved up on a groundout and scored just ahead of Shane Robinson's throw on Randal Grichuk's sacrifice fly to left. Gibson got ahead of Grichuk with two quick strikes and was determined to keep the ball out of the air, but Grichuk delivered the required situational play.

Mark Reynolds added a two-run single with two outs in the third to make it 3-1. Jhonny Peralta moved up both runners just before Reynolds' hit with a productive groundout to first.

"They do execute," Molitor said. "They're pesky that way. They take advantage of run-scoring opportunities when they get them. We've had a couple of those where as of late we haven't been able to move guys up."

Gibson's two-out single in the fifth ended a run of 12 straight Twins set down by Wacha, who was pulled after 86 pitches when the second rain delay hit in the seventh. Kurt Suzuki greeted reliever Seth Maness with a run-scoring double to pull the Twins within one.

It was Suzuki's first extra-base hit since May 26, ending a drought of 54 at-bats.

A wild pitch moved Suzuki to third with one out, but pinch-hitters Eddie Rosario and Kennys Vargas failed to get the ball out of the infield.

Rookie Byron Buxton started the eighth with an infield single, his second hit in 10 big-league at-bats. Trying to move into scoring position, he was caught trying to steal second by perennial Gold Glove catcher Molina.

Torii Hunter singled to center on the next pitch, which likely would have tied the score had Buxton gotten a better jump.

Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal (arm tightness) was unavailable again, but left-hander Kevin Siegrist was able to record the save for a second straight day. Eduardo Nunez doubled off the base of the wall with one out in the ninth, but the Twins could not advance him.

In Music News: Lil Wayne Hasn't Signed to Roc Nation, Mykki Blanco Reveals ...

Calm down. Lil Wayne has not signed with Roc Nation. Over the weekend, the artist made a statement on stage at KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland, CA claiming he'd signed a deal with Jay Z. However, Cortez Byrant, Lil Wayne's manager, confirmed to Billboard this morning that Wayne was not referring to Roc Nation, but to TIDAL.

Lil Tunechi is now one of the co-owners in the extremely successful music streaming service. (Ahem.) Meanwhile, he continues to fight with his label, Cash Money, after suing them for $51 million in January. Tha Carter Vthe new Lil Wayne album that is supposedly complete and being held hostage by Cash Money co-founder Birdmanhas yet to see the light of day and has no expected release date. But hey, maybe Wayne will continue this streak of good-decision-making and start appearing on his girlfriend Christina Milian's reality show.

Late Friday evening, former rapper Mykki Blanco announced his HIV positive status on Facebook as Pride weekend kicked off.

The artist, who identifies as multi-gendered, announced back in March that he would be forgoing music in favor of investigative journalism in support of LGBTQ politics. (Although, Rolling Stone is now saying that a new album is in the works.) Although Blanco expressed hesitation about how the disclosure of his HIV status would be received by the music industry, he responded to a fan's comment and said, "I just cant [sic] be an image living in fear having people call me brave and it being a lie."

Although we're still awaiting news on that new album she mentioned, Janet Jackson has made good on her promise of a new world tour. The Unbreakable Tour will kick off in Vancouver on August 31. There's no Seattle date listed as yet, so I suggest you start making plans to cross the border. Tickets go on sale June 22.

On Friday evening, Dave Grohl fell off the stage in Gothenburg, Sweden while the Foo Fighters were performing "Monkey Wrench." According to Stereogum, the band continued to play a series of covers while Grohl received medical attention. He came back to play "The Pretender" and truly prove his commitment to rocking before he REALLY had to leave the stage, as one probably should when their bones are askew.

On that note, Happy Monday.

UFC 188 results recap: Charles Rosa vs Yair Rodriguez fight review and analysis

Last night (Sat., June 13, 2015), Charles Rosa and Yair Rodriguez went to war at UFC 188 inside Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico. In an excellent performance, Rodriguez came out on top in a close decision. Find out how below!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweights Charles Rosa and Yair Rodriguez slugged it out last night (June 13, 2015)at UFC 188 inside Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico.

After putting forth an impressive effort in a losing effort in his Octagon debut, Rosa came back with a vengeance to finish his next fight. Heading into this bout, Rosa was a legitimate prospect with top shelf potential.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez had a strong showing on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Latin America, finishing each of his opponents on the show and securing a decision win at the finale. At just 22 years old, Rodriguez was looking to prove that he was already a major player at featherweight.

Color me impressed.

Rodriguez opened the fight with some wild kicks and jumping knees, but Rosa used his wildness to secure a single leg takedown. However, it landed him in a deep triangle choke, which the TUF winnner squeezed with all his might. Rosa defended intelligently, pushing his opponent's neck into the fence and preventing him from getting the angle necessary for the finish.

Just moments after escaping the triangle, Rosa opened up with his ground strikes and moved into the back mount. While he failed to threaten with a choke, he did land some nice ground strikes before the fight moved back to their feet. The men began to exchange, but the exciting round came to an end soon after.

While Rosa's top control likely won him the round, both men definitely had their moments.

Rodriguez's offense clearly took its toll on Rosa, who was very tired to start the second round. Rosa pushed forward regardless, but Rodriguez circled around him and touched him up with hard kicks and punches. In addition, Rosa's takedowns were missing a lot of drive, allowing Rodriguez to defend them easily.

By the middle of the second round, Rosa's face was sliced open and battered. He continued to push forward and throw punches, but he rarely landed anything solid. Plus, he was getting countered constantly, and his takedowns were frequently reversed.

Heading into the third, it was clear which fighter had the momentum.

Rosa opened up the third round with some pressure and a nice double leg takedown. After a minute of landing hard elbow strikes, Rosa was caught in a second triangle choke, though he managed to slip out without too much issue. He used the escape to pass and attempted a crucifix, but Rodriguez managed to escape back to his feet.

Before long, Rosa managed to land a second takedown against the fence. Rosa stayed active with punches and elbows while Rodriguez threw up submission attempts. From within the guard, both men battled until the end of the fight.

Ultimately, it came down to the first round, and two of the judges sided with Rodriguez.

This was a huge victory for the Mexican fighter. He displayed a ton of potential, particularly on his feet, where he used a number of creative techniques to keep his opponent off-balance and do damage. In addition, he was constantly working from the ground, both with strikes and submission attempts.

Furthermore, Rodriguez is a huge featherweight. He dwarfed his opponent, and his strength advantage likely helped him defend takedowns and land so many reversals. His strikes landed with serious power, knocking his opponent around.

While Rodriguez needs to develop his wrestling a bit further, he's in a great camp and still quite young. Hopefully, he's brought along slowly and given time to develop. This was already a big win for him, but he doesn't need to face a top 15 fighter just yet.

Rosa has to be disappointed. Against a fairly unknown fighter, Rosa wound up in an all out war and came up just short. Despite his proven skills, his current UFC record sits below .500, which is never a good look.

In this bout, Rosa's conditioning really cost him. Of course, the elevation and kicks he absorbed didn't help, but that's what really prevented him from out-wrestling his opponent. If Rosa had been able to push hard for three rounds, he likely would've pulled out the win.

Regardless, this was an entertaining fight, and Rosa has made a habit of putting on shows. He's not going anywhere, and I look forward to seeing both men again inside the Octagon.

Last night, Yair Rodriguez upset Charles Rosa in a wild scrap. How high will the Mexican TUF winner climb?
