BART resumes normal service following Warriors parade

Related Coverage

OAKLAND (BCN) All BART stations are open and trains are making all stops this afternoon in the Bay Area following the Golden State Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland, according to BART officials.

BART officials reported the information at 2:27 p.m.

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said reports of station closures were false. BART never closed any stations but the agency closed some entrances to some stations, she said.

People thought a station was closed if they found a locked entrance, she said.

Patrons encountered a long line at the Fremont station this morning as they tried to get to the Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland and BART officials set up a table to help more people buy tickets.

The number of station entries was so high this morning that Trost said BART might set a ridership record today.

Ridership as of 2 p.m. was trending about 16,000 below the record. But the agency has yet to record the numbers from tonights commute and an Oakland As baseball game tonight.

BART officials wont know until tomorrow whether ridership set a record today, but it definitely will be one of the top, Trost said.

BART did not alter the routes of trains but directed celebrants to the Warriors event to use the Lake Merritt station if they were going south and either the 12th or 19th street stations if they were going north or west.

BART also changed the platform level on which people boarded at some stations.

Watch The Trailer For The Malala Yousafzai Documentary Film

Today, Fox Searchlight released the first trailer for 'He Named Me Malala,' a film documenting the life of activist Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize.(Photo : Fox Searchlight)

Last year, 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai became the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize for her courageous struggle and activism for the right for all children in her country, Pakistan, to receive an education.

Now, Yousafzai is the subject of a documentary, He Named Me Malala, being released by Fox Searchlight Films. Today, the film studio released a trailerfor that documentary by Davis Guggenheim, who also directed the Oscar winning film An Inconvenient Truthand the Waiting for Superman documentary.

The trailer begins with the tragic shooting of Yousafzai by the Taliban, who felt threatened by the message she sent on her blog in support of education, particularly the education of girls in her country. However, after recovering from her wounds, Yousafzai became a worldwide figure, and continued advocating for the rights of children.

The trailer also shows Yousafzai as a normal teenage girl as she spends time with her family and teases her brother. "I'm still a teenager," she says in the clip.

We also learn that Malala's father named his daughter after Malalai of Maiwand, a national folk hero of Afghanistan.

"My father only gave me the name Malala; he didn't make me Malala," says Yousafzai at the end of the trailer.

In October, 2014, Yousafzai received a Nobel Peace Prize for her continued activism. She also published a memoir I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban co-written by Christina Lamb. However, that many Pakistani private schools banned that book.

Pakistan's literacy rate for school-aged girls is only 61.5 percent, according to statistics provided by Unicef. The primary school enrollment rate is only around 83 percent for girls, with 100 percent of boys attending school. Secondary school participation rates are even lower with around 35 percent for boys and around 28 percent for girls. Yousafzi has spent much of her life advocating for better educational opportunities for both boys and girls in her country.

He Named Me Malalaopens in select theaters on October 2.

Jason Day Collapsed, and Golf Became an Afterthought at the U.S. Open

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA JUNE 19: Jason Day of Australia is tended to by caddie Colin Swatton as he lays on the ninth green after falling due to dizziness during the second round of the 115th U.S. Open Championship at Chambers Bay on June 19, 2015 in University Place, Washington. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

A very scary moment occurred on Friday at the U.S. Open as Jason Day collapsed just as he and playing partner Jordan Spieth were finishing up their final hole of Day 2.

At first, Day seemed to have fallen, perhaps slipped on the grass, but the longer he laid motionless (for almost ten full minutes), the crowd began to realize that something was wrong.

According to Golf Channel (via Days wife Ellie), dizziness has been an issue for Day for as far back as 2010, and he even had to withdraw from the AT&T AT&T Byron Nelson after noticing symptoms of dizziness during a practice round. Vertigo-like symptoms also kept him out of the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Bridgestone Invitational.

But on Friday, Day showed fans that he had quite a bit of fight in him. After he managed to stand and steady himself, he was able to manage a mid-range putt, a bogey to put him even-par 70. According to Brian Floyd and Brendan Porath of SBNation, it was the best bogey youll see this weekend.

Lindsey Graham on Charleston shooter: 'It's him...not the flag'

"We're not going to give this a guy an excuse about a book he might have read or a movie he watched or a song he listened to or a symbol out anywhere. It's him...not the flag," the Republican senator told CNN's "New Day" Alisyn Camerota,

One of the common photos of Roof circulated in the media is one of him seen posing by a car featuring a South Carolina license plate depicting the Confederate flag.

Watch Obama react to 14 mass U.S. shootings

When Graham was asked his thoughts regarding the Confederate flag, he said, "It works here, that's what the State House agreed to do. You could probably visit other places in the country near some symbol that doesn't quite strike you right."

Graham says he believes the current gun law procedure on background checks should be modified in such a way where people who do have some record of criminal activities or felonies cannot obtain guns.

SCOTUS: Texas can reject Confederate flag plate

After acknowledging approximately 40,000 people failed a background check and 9,000 of them were felons, Graham questioned as to how people are added to a background system that simply does not work for the American people. "The solutions to problems like this are probably not one law away," he added.

Graham said he believes the reason why people are able to obtain guns even with a criminal backgrounds are due to a lack of resources.

"If I get to be President of the United States, you fail a criminal background check, you try to buy a gun when you're not supposed to, you're going to meet the law head on," Graham said.
