OAKLAND (BCN) All BART stations are open and trains are making all stops this afternoon in the Bay Area following the Golden State Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland, according to BART officials.
BART officials reported the information at 2:27 p.m.
BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said reports of station closures were false. BART never closed any stations but the agency closed some entrances to some stations, she said.
People thought a station was closed if they found a locked entrance, she said.
Patrons encountered a long line at the Fremont station this morning as they tried to get to the Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland and BART officials set up a table to help more people buy tickets.
The number of station entries was so high this morning that Trost said BART might set a ridership record today.
Ridership as of 2 p.m. was trending about 16,000 below the record. But the agency has yet to record the numbers from tonights commute and an Oakland As baseball game tonight.
BART officials wont know until tomorrow whether ridership set a record today, but it definitely will be one of the top, Trost said.
BART did not alter the routes of trains but directed celebrants to the Warriors event to use the Lake Merritt station if they were going south and either the 12th or 19th street stations if they were going north or west.
BART also changed the platform level on which people boarded at some stations.
