Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Tom Coughlin Could Be On Team"s List For Next Head ...

Tom Coughlin Has Final Message For Eli, Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles are rumored to be staying within the division to find their next head coach with reports that Tom Coughlin could be on their list.

The Eagles have been incredibly busy since firing Chip Kelly before the conclusion of the season and with putting feelers out to some of the most in-demand coaching prospects. The team interviewed Chicago Bears assistant Adam Gase and Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

While theres a good chance the team will go with one of the young up-and-comers, Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells has another old-timer in mind: Tom Coughlin.

I know guys Tom Coughlins age who know a whole lot more about football than some of the 30 year olds who are coaching it, Parcells said, when asked during a radio interview on 97.5 FM The Fanatic. Tom isnt just a good friend, but I have experience coaching with him that goes back a long time. I think his record pretty much speaks for itself.

They struggled the last few years. We know that. I think that he can do whatever he wants to do. I dont think theres a number or age on what someone is capable of. If he has the energy to do the job and still knows what hes doing, then age shouldnt be a factor.

It seemed clear from his final press conference with the New York Giants that Coughlin was not ready to go gently into that good night. Both he and the team insinuated that his resignation was not voluntary, and that Coughlin faced a quit-or-be-fired option.

Coughlin aadded that he was not necessarily done with coaching, but would not go into specifics about his plans for this year.

I didnt say that, I just said Im not necessarily done with coaching, he said (via NFL.com). Thank you very much for asking.

While the Philadelphia Eagles rumors are touching on Tom Coughlin, it appears that Gase has a more inside track. He has already interviewed once with the team and may already have a second interview (depending on which report you read).

Report: Adam Gase does not have a second interview with Eagles scheduled https://t.co/peww0vdskf

Miami Herald Sports (@HeraldSports) January 7, 2016

Gase could be a good fit for a team searching for a quarterback. Coughlin had the luxury of Eli Manning for the last 12 seasons, and would be joining a Philadelphia team with an oft-injured Sam Bradford and a very uncertain future.

While Adam Gase may be the toast of the NFL right now, he is still entirely unproven as a head coach. And as Bill Parcells points out, no one knows which coordinators are going to be successful as head coaches. Two years ago Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine was in the same situation as Adam Gase, but two unsuccessful seasons and one giant quarterback mess with the Cleveland Browns later and hes out of a job.

There are those that will eventually be successful Then there are the bus stations full of robbers, Parcells said. Its just philosophically what the organization wants. A guy thats been a head coach with experience has been through a lot of things the hot coordinators going to have to learn on the job. I cant specifically look out and say hey, theres a guy and hed be a great guy. I just dont know.

If the Philadelphia Eagles rumors about Tom Coughlin are true, they may risk losing out on Adam Gase when gauging the former Giants coachs interest. Gase is being pursued by at least three other teams, and taking a step back from the process could meant the Eagles would lose out.

Ultimate Guide to La Liga Weekend: Zidane"s Real Madrid Boss Debut and Transfers

Zinedine Zidane greets the players at Ciudad Real Madrid

Most of the focus in La Liga, this weekend and every other, is on the sides at the top: Real Madrid and Barcelona, then Atletico Madrideven with the latter leading the pack. It"s inevitable, of course; those sides draw the biggest attention and have the biggest fanbases and the most exciting playersbut there is so much to play for elsewhere, too.

This time we"re looking in particular at the polar opposite: Levante hosting Rayo Vallecano on Saturday night, a prime-time kick-off slot, and a match that could feasibly go a long way to determining the rest of the season for one of those two teams.

Levante sit rock bottom, with just two wins all campaign and already four points behind their nearest rivals and six from safety.

They can"t keep losing games; it"s four league defeats on the spin already, and although the scorelines have been close1-0, 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1they have only netted one goal of their own during that run. Offensive frailty mixed with an inability to keep a clean sheet is never a good combination.

Levante"s despair as they concede a late winner to Atletico Madrid

Rayo sit one place above Levante, but the gap for themselves to safety is just two points. A win could theoretically lift them to 15th placethere"s a big group of sides just around and above the dotted line of the relegation zone, and the order continually changes. Even so, Paco Jemez"s men have slipped dangerously of late, losing five on the spin before a 2-2 draw last time out. They also then drew with Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey in midweek, so at least some semblance of a revival can be seen.

A home win pushes Levante back toward the pack. They need to catch up, hope Deyverson can fire a few more goals and that they get a big impact from new Colombian winger Mauricio Cuero. An away win, however, could leave the bottom club seriously adrift.

Las Palmas and Real Sociedad will be optimistic they can take something from their respective games, but Granada and Sporting face uphill battles.

The relegation struggle is very real for one or two teams already, and the clash of the bottom two this weekend could force one or two moves into the January transfer market as panic starts to set in.

Jornada 19(kick-off times per Soccerway)

Saturday

Barcelona vs. Granada

Getafe vs. Real Betis

Sevilla vs. Athletic Club

Real Madrid vs. Deportivo La Coruna

Levante vs. Rayo Vallecano

Sunday

Villarreal vs. Sporting Gijon

Real Sociedad vs. Valencia

Eibar vs. Espanyol

Las Palmas vs. Malaga

Celta Vigo vs. Atletico Madrid

What to Watch out for This Weekend

Part 1: Arda, Aleix, Matias, Augusto

The January transfer window might be a little more busy as time goes on in Spain, but this weekend is the first chance for a handful of players to make their league bow for new clubsthose who got into action quickly and signed their chosen ones in advance.

Arda Turan started for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey in midweek, as did Matias Kranevitter and Augusto Fernandez for Atletico Madrid. All three will now hope to be involved from the start in their teams" respective Liga matches, though one suspects Aleix Vidal will have to wait a little longer to be involved.

Elsewhere, Chory Castro has moved from Real Sociedad to Malaga, Samir has come from Udinese to Granada to boost their centre-back options and Levante broke their transfer record to pay 3.5 million for Cuerothey need the winger to have a quick, and big, impact.

Part 2: Villarreal"s Opportunity

A recent run of five successive wins in La Liga not only has them in fourth place, but it has also opened up a five-point gap between themselves and Celta Vigo in fiftha very reasonable buffer to push hopes of reaching the Champions League next season.

This week, however, it could get even better for the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal manager Marcelino

The way the fixtures come together this weekend, they could be extremely closely grouped together in with the top three, while opening an even more significant gap down to the Europa League spotshome to Sporting, they will expect to win if Marcelino plays a full-strength side, but the same can"t be said for the rest of the teams.

Celta at home to Atletico is very tough to call, and a draw wouldn"t be a bad result for either side, in truththough, with Celta having lost their last two and Atleti top after four wins in five, as well as having poached Celta"s holding midfielder, the away team will be looking to emerge victorious and stay top. Athletic are away to Sevilla, again a tough matchup, and both Depor and Eibar are too far behind Celta to leapfrog them if they win and Celta lose.

Villarreal could be looking at a seven-point gap between themselves and the rest of the chasers this weekend, and exciting times would lie ahead.

Players to Watch: James and Isco, RMA

There are two players to watch this week, and presumably one of them isn"t even starting the match. There has been so much talk about James Rodriguez and Isco under Rafael Benitez that it seems everyone has ignored the fact that they can"tboth start games, unless one of the "BBC" attack drops out instead.

Marca report this week that Zidane has rejected any possibility of Isco leaving for Juventus in Januarybut if that"s because he sees the Spaniard playing a key role, and he has already said that he will "always" play Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale together, perhaps that will leave Colombian midfielder James wondering just what part he"ll play.

There are others to watch out for, but on this particular occasion, which of these two get to feature from the start could be telling, both for January and the remainder of the season.

Game of the Weekend: Real Madrid vs. Deportivo

It kind of has to be the game of the weekend: Zinedine Zidane"s first game in charge of Real, indeed his first game in charge of any notable top-flight club ever. The knives will be sharpened in certain quarters if he doesn"t hit the ground running, and elsewhere, eyes will be keen to see how he sets up and who is favoured to start.

Zinedine Zidane prepares his players ahead of his first match as Real Madrid manager

Depor, though, have proved extremely tough to break down and beat this seasonthey are coming to the Santiago Bernabeu with the intention of spoiling the party, there"s no doubt about it. With Lucas Perez, Luis Alberto and one or two other attackers looking in fine form this season, Depor have the ability to hit Real on the breakand having only conceded 18 this term, the same tally as Real themselves, they won"t be easily penetrated either.

The Real players themselves have to make a statement, have to show that theyare capable of more than they gave under Rafael Benitez and that they are playing for the shirt, not just picking and choosing which manager they opt to fight for or otherwise.

Real have four points to make up at the top of the table. A win in Zidane"s first game sets the platform for the recovery to startbut Depor will be hoping for a point, perhaps even more, to continue their own push for European football.

Predictions and Tips

  • Home wins: Barcelona, Levante, Villarreal, Eibar
  • Away wins: Valencia, Malaga
  • Both teams to score: SEV-ATH, RMA-DEP, RSO-VAL, CEL-ATM.

New language dictionary helps preserve the richness of Inuit dialect

Kid Dictionary with John Stamos

Sub-title:

Valuable resource for speakers and learners of Utkuhiksalingmiut

Generations ago, most Canadian Inuit lived in small seasonal camps but, over the past 60 years, Inuit have settled into permanent towns, where traditional dialects intermingled and sometimes developed in to new converged dialects.

One such traditional dialect is Utkuhiksalingmiut now spoken mainly by elders in the Uqsuqtuuq (Gjoa Haven) and Qamanituaq (Baker Lake) communities.

The first dictionary to document this dialect was recently published by Nunavut Arctic College and is entitled Utkuhiksalingmiut Uqauhiitigut: Dictionary of Utkuhiksalingmiut Inuktitut Postbase Suffixes. The 700-plus page book, which was recently recognized by the Minister of Education of Nunavut in the legislature, expounds the numerous suffixes used to form complex words in Inuktitut.

Alana Johns, a professor of linguistics and the former director of the Aboriginal studies program and the Centre for Aboriginal Initiatives in the Faculty of Arts & Science, co-authored the work with Conor Cook and Jean Briggs, an internationally renowned anthropologist.

Arts & Science News spoke with Johns about the dictionary and its importance.

How and why did you get involved as a co-author of this dictionary?Jean Briggs speaks Inuktitut quite fluently, but is not trained as a linguist. She had many years worth of valuable, carefully collected data that she wanted to organize into a dictionary format. She needed a linguist to help with this work, so I was delighted for the opportunity to collaborate with her.

Conor Cook, a former U of T linguistics student now working at the Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit (Inuit Language Authority) in Iqaluit, did the bulk of the actual organization and the dictionary could not have been completed without him.

It was your idea to create a dictionary of postbases. What exactly is a postbase?Postbases are pieces inside complex words. In the Inuit language, single words range from being very simple to as complex as an entire English sentence. Fluency in the language entails using multiple postbases, sometimes as many as six, inside a word.

Many of the examples in the dictionary are from Jean Briggs painstaking fieldwork with Utkuhiksalingmiut speakers in real-life situations, not merely examples that were constructed to illustrate the use of the postbase.

Utkuhiksalingmiut is a dialect of Inuktitut now spoken mainly by elders in the Uqsuqtuuq (Gjoa Haven) and Qamanituaq (Baker Lake) communities of Nunavut. How does the publication of this dictionary help to promote and preserve the dialect? We hope that by providing a detailed analysis of the dialects postbases using as little technical linguistic terminology as possible and by providing numerous examples fluent younger speakers will be able to expand their proficiency in the language.

The dictionary can also help language teachers create lessons. Hopefully, speakers of other dialects will see the value in researching postbases and perhaps model something similar.

This project documents the richness of the Utkuhiksalingmiut dialect for future generations, as well.

How were the elders involved in the project? The elders were involved since the beginning well before they were elders.

Jean Briggs first collected this data by living on the land not in a permanently settled community with the Utkuhiksalingmiut, in the Back River area of Nunavut.

As she was learning to speak the language, she wrote down words, but also asked about the meanings of the words. Her adopted family and many others were extremely helpful by explaining words and giving further examples, illustrating the use either of word roots (bases) or postbases.

In later years, Jean Briggs went back to visit speakers, who no longer lived on the land but had moved into the settled communities of Gjoa Haven and Baker Lake. She gained further insight into the words through checking her notes and adding to them with the help of speakers.

How do Indigenouslanguages serve as modern day links to the history and culture of the people that speak them? What role do dictionaries play? This is not an easy question for a non-Aboriginal person to answer, but the languages contain expressions for cultural objects and concepts that have not always been translated to English, or the English translation may not carry details inherent to the original word.

Each language also has specific grammatical distinctions and even modes of interaction between individuals. Speaking another language is more than just using other words it is inhabiting or donning a whole culture.

Generational knowledge and wisdom are transmitted through extended family and social interaction. Indigenous people rely primarily on oral and direct transmission. Dictionaries are just one language resource, but an important one. They do not aim to be an arbiter of language, but can foster understanding and discussion of language and document its richness.

The cover of the dictionary is spectacular. Whos the artist? Its a drawing by the late Jessie Oonark, a very famous Canadian artist whose artwork is part of the National Gallery of Canadas collection. Being one of the many Inuit artists from the Back River area, she was a speaker of the Utkuhiksalingmiut dialect.

Craig Strickland"s Widow on Their Last Conversation: "He Walked Out the Door ...

Craig Strickland’s Wife Breaks Her Silence After Country Singer is Found Dead
@dak5000

01/07/2016 AT 06:45 PM EST

Helen Strickland has opened up about her final moments with her late husband Craig Strickland before he left for the hunting trip that claimed his life and that of his friend Chase Morland.

"We laid on the couch and I rubbed his chest and we talked," Strickland, 27, told CNN Thursday. "And we talked about Harry Potter because I love Harry Potter and joked. He walked out the door and looked at me and said, "I love you" and blew me a kiss and said, "I"ll talk to you soon" and walked out. I wouldn"t change anything about that."

The former Miss Arkansas USA also admitted that her husband might not have had the best judgment when it came to his passion for hunting.

"Craig really had no sense of what not to do sometimes when it came to duck hunting at least," she said. "Not everybody knows about duck hunting, but winter weather is the best time to go I think he looked at that time and he looked at that storm and as his friends said, he knew the ducks were coming in, he knew they were going to be there it"s more than just trying to shoot ducks.

She continued, "What Craig loved more than anything ... he got to spend time with his friends or his family or whoever he got to take with him. For him, seeing that winter storm, he knew it would make an awesome story and [he would] be able to spend that time with Chase, who he was starting to mentor. I think that was what he was thinking when he saw Goliath on the map."

Morland had tweeted an ominous message foreshadowing the tragic turn of events, which Strickland then retweeted.

"In case we don"t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma. #IntoTheStorm," Morland wrote in the early morning hours on Dec. 27.

Though Strickland says she"s staying strong and leaning on family while coping with her heartbreaking loss.

"We"re actually doing a lot better than people were expecting. More than any of us could ever expect," she said. "His sisters rode down with me to Little Rock and we talked about that a little bit, how G*d just helped us get through this. Everybody sharing their love for Craig and telling us how much they loved him helps us get through this really difficult time. We"re dealing with this as a family.

Adds Strickland, "It really comes down to realizing it"s all in G*d"s hands and there"s a reason for all of this. Instead of letting it hurt us, we"re going to try and do something good with that."

A memorial service for Craig Strickland will be held Tuesday at Cross Church in Rogers, Arkansas.

Tyga Responds to Molly O"Malia Accusations on Instagram

Tyga Involved In Sex Scandel With 14 Year Old Molly O’Malia - The Breakfast Club

Earlier this week, a 14-year-old model named Molly O"Malia accusedTygaof stalking and harassing her via social media and text messages.

The rapper has been radio silent on social media in the days since, but last night, he posted a cryptic message that many are interpreting as his first public response to the allegations:

Tyga posted the above photo, along with a caption reading,"They don"t want you to win."

Sources close to the 26-year-old rapper say Tyga insists he contacted O"Malia about her music, and that his interest in the aspiring singer was purely professional.

Unfortunately for T-Raww, O"Maliaheld a press conference on Monday in which she explicitly stated that the topic of her music never came up during their text and direct message exchanges.

"I thought that it could possibly be about my music, but he did not mention that in his initial communication with me," O"Malia stated, while seated next to famed Hollywood attorney Gloria Allred.

"He asked me to FaceTime three times, but I didn"t do it," O"Malia told a crowd of reporters.

"Because of my discomfort with why he wanted to communicate with me I quickly stopped responding to him. It"s crazy how so much can come out of nothing."

Currently, Tyga isn"t facing any criminal charges, but we think this whole thing should finally be enough to get him dumped by Kylie Jenner.

Tough times for T-Raww!

Oculus Rift Vs. HTC Vive Vs. PlayStation VR: Which VR System Will Be King Of 2016?

HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift at CES 2016

We"re less than a week into the new year but it has already become more than abundantly clear from CESthat 2016 is the year of virtual reality. At the forefront of this newvirtual reality wave are three trailblazing new products: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.Eachoffers its own unique interpretation of what virtual reality gaming has the potential to become.

But how exactly do these devices compare?

The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are arguably therivals inthe industry given both are designed to be top-of-the-linePC-centric devices. Spec details are limited but Digital Trends shared a comparison chart based on the Oculus Rift consumer model and HTC Vive development kit.

For the most part, the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are closely matched, both of which boast an OLED display with 2160 x 1200 resolution (1080x1200px for each eye), a refresh rate of 90Hz, and a 110 degree field of view. The Oculus Rift also features numerous sensors including an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and 360-degree positional tracking via the Rift"s Constellation tracking system, a single sensor mounted to a ten-inch stand.

The HTC Vive offers similar sensors, but forgoes the magnetometer and positional tracking, opting for a laser position sensor and front-facing camera to aid the user"s sense of environmental awareness despite wearing the immersive VR unit. The front-facing camera, cleverly named the "Chaperone,"is an especially clutch feature as our very own Marc Perton describedduring his test drive of the Vive, especially since neither the Oculus or the PlayStation VR has implemented this feature.

"At any time, a double-tap on a controller button brings up a real-world overlay on top of whatever youre doing in the virtual space," said Perton. "While it might seem jarring to suddenly merge the virtual and the actual, HTCs implementation makes it incredibly natural.

The laser position sensor is unique to the HTC as well, although this system requires the user to set up laser poles at the corners of the room for spatial calibration, which we"ve yet to determine whether it is a pro or con. On one hand, the laser positioning system offers a generous tracking area of 15 x 15 feet that potentially allow users more freedom to move around in a room versus the Oculus Rift, which will depend on the ability of the single constellation tracking sensor. On the other hand, the laser sensorsmight also make the HTC Vive a more cumbersome product that is more complicated to set up.

According to Oculus, the new Rift will require a graphics card that is equivalent or greater than the NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290, a minimum 8GB RAM, compatible HDMI 1.3 video output, two USB 3.0 ports, and Windows 7 SP1 or newer OS. Given the identical display, resolution and refresh rate for the HTC Vive, we assume that the Vive requirements aren"t far off.

HTC Vive kit. HTC Oculus Rift kit. Oculus

Other features available on the Oculus Rift include built-in 3D audio and built-in mic, as well as an Oculus Touch remoteand compatibility with theXbox One controller. Meanwhile, the HTC Vive features a SteamVR controller but also promises compatibility with various PC gamepads. That said, the Vive does not have built-in audio just yet and has notannouncedbuilt-in mic capabilities. From the demo videos we"ve seen on the web, users are wearing a set of headphones over the Vive unit, which means the user"s will have the unique, and perhaps unfavorable, experienceof having both their eyes and ears completely covered.

Pricing of the Oculus Rift will start at $599 with the first pre-orders shipped by the end of March. The HTC Vive price tag has yet to be announced, but despite the lack of built-in audio and built-in mic for now, the Vive certainly does not seem like an inferior product. It will be interesting to learn how the HTC Vive will be priced in the days ahead.

The PlayStation VR is dedicated to Sony"s PlayStation 4 console, but comparisons between the Sony headset alongside its PC counterparts are inevitable. Like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, the PlayStation VR will arrive to the market at some point in 2016. What"s more, the specs on the PlayStation VR are not far off either.

PlayStation VR Kit VRFocus / Twitter

While both the Rift and Vive boast 2160 x 1200 resolution, the PlayStation VR will make do with 1920 x 1080 (960 x 1080 for each eye). That said, while the Rift and Vive boast 90Hz refresh rates, the PlayStation VR can render games at up to 120Hz, which potentially translates to even better image movement fluidity. Next, the PlayStation VR also features a built-in 3D audio speaker design, which is similar to the Rift and not available in the Vive. However, there is one key aspect that suggests that the PlayStation VR isn"t necessarily at the same level as its PC virtual reality counterparts.

Unlike the Oculus Rift"s Constellation Positioning System and the HTC Vive"s laser position sensor, the PlayStation VR will simply utilize the PlayStation Eye camera as the tracking system. Moreover, the PlayStation VR will pair with the Dual Shock 4 and the PlayStation Move motion controller as well. By syncing withexisting peripherals rather than demand more hardware, this enables the PlayStation VR to position itself at a more affordable price range.

However, the PlayStation VR will also feature an external processor to ensure the PS4 will be able to handle the demanding virtual reality graphics, which could severely eliminate Sony"s pricing advantage over Oculus and HTC. Specifics regarding the external processor are limited, but the processor is an add-on box "a bit smaller than the Wii" that plugs into the console. The headset in turn plugs into the external unit. The external processor also features an HDMI input and output for "social screen" functionality, which means it will allow other friends in the room to use the TV and PS4 to interact with, or simply watch, the person playing within the PlayStation VR.

Even if the external PlayStation comes at a premium, we cannot ignore thatthe Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive by extension, demands premium PC hardware for the processing power necessary to run virtual reality. At the end of the day,the PlayStation VR is paired with Sony"s current PS4 console, which currently retails for just $350, or approximately the same price as oneNvidia GTX 970 computer graphics card.

In that regard, the PlayStation VR should still offer a moreaffordable price point that can give Sony a significant leg up over the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. What"s more, the PS4 gaming console may also be better positioned for popular, mainstream virtual reality gaming content than the PC counterparts.

Ultimately, most of what we"re saying is conjecture based on the information we have at this point and it"s difficult to say which of the three VR devices are bestuntil they actually reach the market. During a Reddit AMA session on Wednesday, Oculus Rift CEO Palmer Luckey noted that virtual reality technology is truly in its infancy right now that naturally leads to a discordance among the range of VR offerings.

"We are focusing on launching our own product right now," said Luckey. "but when standardization does eventually happen, it will be the result of collaboration between many companies, not control by a single company."
