The National Lottery ‘Lotto’ draw results from Wednesday 6th January 2016
Hopeful millionaires everywhere are plopping down big bucks in hopes of cashing in big.
The odds of winning the $900 million Powerball jackpot are infinitely small, but that hasn"t stopped people from buying tickets for their chance at striking it rich.
Owner of Vests Market Harry Dindral said he usually sells about $20 worth of Powerball tickets on any given day. Today he"s sold about $500 worth.
"Just in the span of these last two minutes, I"ve had about ten people just buy a ticket," Dindral said.
All over town, the $900 million jackpot has seduced people who don"t usually play, into buy lotto tickets including Vests Market customer Moses Perez.
"I just seen the craze," Perez said. "I seen everybody standing in line here at Vests Market. And I just jumped in the line and said, "What"s going on?" They said Powerball, so I was like alright."
Linda Flores has never bought a lottery ticket, but bought $20 worth of tickets at Downtown Deli Mart today.
"I probably have better odds of being struck by lightning, but that"s OK," Flores said.
Lotto fever is also in the air at an unlikely place.
Employees at The Mint bar on 19th Street say Powerball tickets made up more than half of their sales this morning.
"Today it"s just been people coming in for tickets, people I haven"t even seen before," said Mint employee Rome Kobel.
But hopeful millionaire Jesse Bustamente said, there"s one surefire way to increase your odds of winning. Buy a ticket.
"You can"t win if you don"t play," said Bustamante. "It"s that simple. If you don"t play, the odds are you"re not going to win at all."
The store that sells the winning ticket will get the maximum payout of $1 million
Just a reminder, the odds of winning the $900 million Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million.
