In the wake of a massive data breach OPM is finally beginning to improve its IT security posture but continues to fail to meet FISMA requirements, the OPM inspector general has said.
It said it has additional concerns with the manner in which the agency is attempting to quickly fix longstanding problems that have been mounting for decades.
OPM is migrating all its systems into a new technical infrastructure the Shell but is not prepared to address many of the very difficult challenges this entails, according to the IG.In its fiscal 2015 FISMA audit of the agency, the IG noted an overall lack of compliance that seems to permeate the agencys IT security program.
As an example, it highlighted OPMs extremely poor decision to put system security assessment and authorizations on hold until applications are migrated into the Shell, and one that make it likely that the IT security controls of OPMs systems will remain neglected during the time that it takes to move the systems to the new environment something that could take years.
The IG said it remains concerned that agency systems will not be protected against another attack.
It credited OPM with having reorganized the Office of the CIO and for establishing an enterprise network security operations center responsible for incident detection and response.
However it cited a long list of shortcomings including:-OPMs system development life cycle policy is not enforced for all system development projects;-OPM does not maintain a comprehensive inventory of servers, databases, and network devices;-Up to 23 major OPM information systems are operating without a valid Authorization;-OPM does not have a mature continuous monitoring program;-Multi-factor authentication is not required to access OPM systems in accordance with OMB memorandum M-11-11;-Many individuals with significant information security responsibility have not taken specialized security training in accordance with OPM policy; and,-OPM has not configured its virtual private network servers to automatically terminate remote sessions in accordance with agency policy.
With the 10th anniversary of High School Musical right around the corner, is Ashley Tisdale is ready to take on another musical extravaganza?
The Clipped star chatted with ET recently, where she opened up about whether or not she"s join NBC"s upcoming live production of Hairspray.
"I"d have to obviously stay open to [the idea]," said Tisdale, whose HSM co-star, Zac Efron, starred in the acclaimed big-screen Hairspray remake in 2007.
However, the 30-year-old actress said that the pressure would be a lot greater than what she"s accustomed to.

"With sitcoms it"s in front of a live audience, but you"re able to go back and, like, redo it if you mess up," Tisdale explained, adding that she "couldn"t imagine" how embarrassing it would be if she "messed up" on live TV.
While there"s no word yet on whether fans will hear Tisdale singing the hits from Hairspray, she did reveal that she"s working on some new music of her own -- but it might be a while before it"s ready.
"I have some ideas, but Im just in the studio kind of feeling out where my voice is," Tisdale shared. "Right now I"m just trying to figure out what kind of music I want to do and where I fit in."

In the meantime, Tisdale is keeping herself busy with her newest endeavor: a line of graphic tees for Signorelli.
"A lot of the stuff is inspired by me and my girlfriends and what we say together," said Tisdale, who also serves as creative director for Signorelli.
With all her various projects occupying her time, Tisdale says that starting a family with her husband, Christopher French, isn"t something she"s planning on in the immediate future.
"I"m not having kids anytime soon!" Tisdale told ET, laughing.

Stephen Curry Full Highlights 2016.01.20 at Bulls - 25 Pts, 11 Assists, 7 Rebs!
The stars werent just on the court Wednesday night during the Bulls game against the Golden State Warriors one A-list star was sitting courtside.
Actor John Malkovich was taking in the game in Chicago in what looked to be some pretty pricey seats.
When the seats are in front of the broadcasters, thats usually a pretty good sign. The actor is a big basketball fan, and keeps track of the game better than some in the media. Malkovich is reportedly a big Bulls fan.
Malkovich grew up in the southern Illinois town of Christopher, just outside of Carbondale. He grew up next to ex-Bulls coach Doug Collins. According to his IMDB profile, Malkovich got his start in Chicago with Steppenwolf Theatre.
Unfortunately for Malkovich and the Bulls, he was in attendance for a blow out loss at the hands of the defending champions.

Last weeks entertainment-news cycle was nearly hijackedas it always seems to be when Friends is involvedby news of what was billed as a Friends cast reunion, for a February 21 special honoring acclaimed sitcom director James Burrows. All six actors were to take part in the specialso, while not exactly the Friends movie or 20-years-later Thanksgiving special episode many may have been hoping for, it nevertheless had the Friends fans nearly ecstatic. Until, that is, Matthew Perry had to go and release a statement that he would not be attending in person, as he will be acting in a play in London at the time (which was extremely Chandler of him, franklythe skipping part, not the acting in a play in London part . . . which is more Joey, we suppose, if Joeys career worked out the best it possibly could have).
And then, this week, there was a separate cast-reunion scandal of sorts, as the entire cast of the Disney Channel original movie High School Musical re-united for a special to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the phenomenon . . . except for Zac Efron, who, per a channel spokesperson, was busy with promotion for his new film, Dirty Grandpa, and participated via a pre-taped message, while Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and the rest gathered in person, for the telecast that will air tonight.
But when and where there is distress in this (pop cultural) world of ours, you can almost always count on the denizens of the Internet to provide some solace. And, oh how they have provided this time!
At firstas E! News has uncovereddistraught fans simply derided Efron and Perry for their perceived disloyalty.
While its unclear exactly which Twitterer was the one to take this anger and actually devise a theory, an explanation, we can only assume he or she was up late this long weekend, clicking through channels, munching on Sour Patch Kids (Sour Patch Kids not specifically related to anything here, but they just make sense in our conception of this), and landing upon the classic 2009 romp 17 Again. Wait a second . . .
And this one is a (delightful) slight variation on the theory:
Hey, if Neighbors is getting a sequel, why cant 17 Again? (27 Again?) And we have now decided, as a VF.com collective, we are going to ignore any sort of factual improbabilities here and are going to just subscribe to this alternate universe in which this move is happening, and we will be keeping you updated on the progress of 27 Again (See Matthew Perry and Zac Efron Pal Around on Set During 27 Again Filming, First Look at 27 Again Footage Promises Heartstring-Tugging and Shenanigans) for the next few months.
