Mark Ruffalo: Morgan Freeman is a blessing to me

NOW YOU SEE ME 2 Trailer # 3 (2016)

The magic and mystique of 2013s Now You See Me is back. Woody Harrelson and Mark Ruffalo return in their roles as part of a band of magicians bent on stealing from the rich to help the poor. While the first film focussed on a lot of big Vegas-style magic, Now You See Me2 will feature a wider variety of tricks.

The sequel follows the Four Horsemen when their scheme to expose corporate bad guys goes awry with a new nemesis showing up tech prodigy Walter Mabry, played by Daniel Radcliffe. Jesse Eisenberg returns as illusionist J Daniel Atlas, Dave Franco as street magician Jack Wilder and Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley, Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, while Lizzy Caplans Lula joins as the newest member of the group. Ruffalo talks about his experience, character and more. Excerpts from a transcript:

Q. Tell us how different the sequel is from the first part?

The movies have the same joie de vivre we have with each other in real life. This is a little bit grander than the first one. The payoff is a final, big magic trick that is mindblowing and really satisfying.

Q. What was your favourite part in the movie?

The best sequence in the movie is the card one where they are passing around the card trying to keep it away from the guards thats a really good secret. That was beautiful cinematic work!

Q. Can you tell us about your character and how it fits into the movie this time?

We know what hes up to this time, but it isnt going smoothly. Theyre trying to expose a tech upstart who has figured out how to put a backdoor on all kinds of encryption in order to steal information. The whole game is to expose this guy, but it quickly starts to go sideways. At the same time, Atlas is questioning my leadership and my credibility at the FBI is in question. I am in a bit of a crisis and for my character the journey is really to find himself, whatever that means.

Q. Tell us about your experience while shooting for Now You See Me 2.

It was a complete discovery and I dont think any of us were planning to do a second one; there was no talk of it. I jokingly, at one point when we were on the final part of the first movie, said maybe we could have a spinoff. But there was so much competition at the box office post our sequel, I dont think any of us thought it would do as well as it did. After it did so well, it was then we started talking about the second one. But it wasnt till I got the script that we talked about what the story was going to be. And then we had to work on that script a lot, Solomon, Jon Chu, Bobby Colin and the cast all of us together. In fact, we were all working on it even while we were shooting.

Q. Was it fun working with the cast again?

The group gets along really well and we had our first movie to really build the bond and I think we all really cared about it, we really wanted to make it work so there was a spirit of us all being part of it and collaborating. So theres a lot of improvisation with the horsemen, I mean theyre delicious, youll just love them in this movie!

Q. How was it to work with Morgan Freeman again?

Morgan and I had a lot of stuff to do together in the first film, and thus I go to spend a lot of time with him. He was really like a blessing to me. Hes one of those great actors I really look up to. He is in the true sense very kind and supportive. Honestly, I was really nervous about working with him but he eased things down for me.

Q. How is Dylans relationship with Thaddeus this time around?

This time youll see how the comfort zone between Dylan and Thaddeus increases, which gives Thaddeus all the power in the relationship and he uses that to exact his revenge on Dylan in the form of a humiliating comeuppance.

Q. Have your kids watched any of your movies? How do they react?

I remember the first time my son Keen saw me on TV, I was away and he was there with the nanny. He saw me and ran to the television set and started banging on the side of it, like, How is he? Papa! Papa! Come out, come out! It was really sweet and so literal for him. He literally thought I was in the TV! Most of the movies Ive done my kids cant watch yet, technically, but, yeah, the ones that they can, they have seen all of them.

Q. Despite your dedication to conservation, you still manage your acting career just fine. How do you juggle between the two?

Acting has sort of become my day job now, sadly. Its what I do to support all this other stuff. Like Why are we living in a modern society where we dont trust the water thats coming out of our tap? We shouldnt be in that position.

Q. How was it to work with Jon Chu?

What he does beautifully is choreography. The way he moves the camera is really specific, and really imaginative too! He reveals the story like a magic trick, peeling back layer after layer. Hes brought the franchise a really high-tech feeling to take it one step further.

Q. Could you spill out details on your upcoming movie Thor: Ragnarok?

Itll be an intergalactic buddy road movie with Banner and Thor. I think it will be smashing. Youll see a lot more Hulk and the Hulk gets Hulkier and bigger. (Smiles.)

The Latest: Indiana Town Wonders: Who Won $540M Lottery?

More Details Emerge About Dallas Shooter"s Motivations

The Latest on a winning ticket sold for the Mega Millions jackpot worth an estimated $540 million (all times local):

12:50 p.m.

A small Indiana town where a Mega Millions ticket worth an estimated $540 million was sold is buzzing with speculation about who might be the big winner.

The winning ticket for Friday"s drawing was sold at a Speedway station along Interstate 70 in Cambridge City, a town of about 2,000 residents 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

Town Council President Mark McCarty says if the winner is a local, it won"t take long for word to spread about who it is.

Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce President Beth Leisure says she"s "happy for whoever it is," even if the winner isn"t from the town known for its antique stores.

Robert Williams, who works at the town"s National Road Antique Mall, says customers are excited and "everybody"s wondering who it is."

11:40 a.m.:

The Hoosier Lottery says the winning ticket for the Mega Millions jackpot worth an estimated $540 million was sold at a gasoline station in eastern Indiana.

Hoosier Lottery spokesman Dennis Rosebrough says the ticket for Friday"s drawing was sold at a Speedway station along Interstate 70 in Cambridge City, a town of about 2,000 residents 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

A person who answered the phone at that store directed calls to Marathon Petroleum"s corporate headquarters. A spokesman, Brandon Daniels, says the company has no comment.

Because the Speedway location is along a busy highway, Rosebrough says the person who bought the ticket may not be from Indiana. He says "we know the ticket was sold in Indiana, but being on I-70, who knows who bought it?"

7:33 a.m.

A lottery official says a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket worth an estimated $540 million was sold in Indiana.

Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty tells The Associated Press it was the only jackpot-winning ticket in Friday night"s Mega Millions drawing.

The consortium of lottery organizations that runs Mega Millions said a ticket matching all five white b***s and the yellow ball would win an estimated $540 million.

The winning Mega Millions numbers are white b***s 8-19-20-55-73 and yellow ball 5.

An estimated $1 billion in tickets have been sold since the last jackpot-winning ticket was drawn in early March. This is the longest Mega Millions run without a winner.

Tickets are sold in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The day I beat up John Cena

WWE: John Cena vs Triple H vs Edge

All because of a big bowl of chocolate pudding.

If you follow wrestling at all, or if you just happen to be aware of remotely popular things happening around you, then youve probably heard about the hashtag #beatjohncena that has been making the rounds.

The idea sprung from one wrestler on Monday Night Raw stating that it was fun to beat up John Cena and, apparently, multitudes of people agreed.

Some of them in very interesting ways:

Long before the hashtag #beatupjohncena started making its rounds on social media, I had already done the lightweight work of taking out one of wrestlings most iconic stars.

Im going to tell you a story about pudding, a folding chair and the one and only John Cena.

Just ask my nephew, John, about my magnificent accomplishment. About six years ago, my nephew was about as into wrestling as a kid can get. He knew all the stars and all their signature moves. He knew their backstories. He knew their affiliations. He knew how they took their tea in the morning.

And, to be honest, it was annoying. I dont follow wrestling. I havent since I was a young kid and my mom would bring home VHS tapes of Wrestlemania for me and my dad to watch. I was in love with the spectacle back then. When Hulk Hogan hefted Andre the Giant and slammed him to the mat? It made the Hulk a demigod to me. And the sounds of the pipes playing as Rowdy Roddy Piper made his way into the arena? It gave me chills. And my fear of snakes? Wasnt helped out much when Jake The Snake Roberts would pull out some monster snake and finish off his opponents by wrapping it around their necks.

As the years went on, my love for wrestling like my love for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers and Air Wolf faded and was replaced by other things (cars, sports and girls, mostly).

And, thus, wrestling faded away for me.

Until my nephew discovered it.

Guess what, Uncle Sam? he would start out as soon as I walked through the door at any location where he was. I would look at him and force myself to respond. John Cena is going to wrestle Shawn Michaels and blah, blah, blah, blah.

(The latter part of that quote is completely made up, just to be completely transparent and truthful.)

This would happen every time I encountered my nephew. Every. Single. Time.

So, one day, tired of hearing how great John Cena was, I decided to tell the tale of the time I had to put the world-class wrestling phenom in his place.

You see, the story goes that I once attended a high school where most of the students were professional athlete hopefuls (not true at all, I went to a very tiny school in Michigans Upper Peninsula where most students were cousins) and one of my classmates just happened to be John Cena.

One day, I was in line in the cafeteria and Cena was ahead of me. I had my eye on a big bowl of chocolate pudding when, lo and behold, Cena took all of it. Every. Last. Drop. And me being a big fella who likes his pudding decided that wouldnt do. So I confronted Cena and demanded he give me some. He refused and laughed at me, choosing to keep all of the beautiful pudding to himself. Obviously this upset me, and I said a few things that I probably shouldnt have said and all h**l broke loose. That is until I hit him with a folding chair and knocked him out upon whence I took his pudding and claimed it as my own and ate it triumphantly as he lay sprawled out on the floor.

My nephew was suspicious of the authenticity of the tale, of course. However, luck would have it that the very next day he had a substitute teacher who I had gone to high school with. So my nephew asked him about the story, and the sub told him that every word of it was true (it helps to have friends who automatically say youre telling the truth, no matter what).

At that moment, my legacy as his favorite uncle was cemented.

Of course it was all lies. But thats what uncles do, right? We tell harmless little lies about things to keep our nieces and nephews off balance and never sure what is real and what isnt. My nephew is a teenager now. I highly doubt he believes that incident ever happened, but it was fun while it lasted.

But heres the truth of the matter I couldnt beat up John Cena if I was paid (in pudding or otherwise). The guy is built like a tank. I am built like a gummy bear. His biceps make my thighs look small. He lifts weights as part of his job. I lift pencils and papers. He throws around fellow wrestlers for a living. I wrestle with which burger joint wants to be my friend for lunch.

Thankfully John Cena seems to be a guy who can roll with the punches and even laugh at himself a bit (Ive even seen photos of fans wearing Cena Sucks shirts and he poses with them).

His response to the hashtag was what you would expect from someone who has spent his career either being loved or hated.

The hashtag is lighthearted, Im sure, but you wont see me throwing it up on my Twitter anytime soon. Just in case John Cena decided to take on a challenger and chooses one at random from those whove put the hashtag on social media, I dont want there to be a chance that he can show everyone in the world who is truly the pudding king.
