Carvajal"s goal seals it for Real Madrid late in extra-time | 2016 UEFA Super Cup Highlights
Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Real Madrid training just a month after suffering sprained collateral ligament damage in his left knee.
The Portuguese sustained the injury in the first half of the Euro 2016 final against France on July 10.
It was thought that the 31-year-old would need eight weeks to recover but now it appears he is ahead of schedule.
Portuguese teammate Pepe was there to greet Ronaldo at Ciudad Real Madrid on the outskirts of the Spanish capital.

Zinedine Zidane"s side did not need Ronaldo to dispatch Sevilla 3-2 after extra-time in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday with Dani Carvajal scoring a superb winner.
Los Merengues face Real Sociedad in their La Liga opener on August 21, which could be circled as the game that Ronaldo returns in some capacity.

Next up is Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu on August 27.
Madrid then have a two week gap before taking on Osasuna on September 10 - which could be a wiser date to play again to ensure the former Man United star has completely recovered.

Arsenal have also struggled to tie Alexis Sanchez down to a new deal, but it is further reports from Germany that will be worrying for Gunners supporters.
According to Bild, Ozil would be enthusiastically ready to make a return to Real Madrid, the club he left Arsenal for just three years ago.
The Spanish giants have twice won the Champions League since the 27-year-olds departure, while he has had to make do with just two FA Cups and repeated failure in the title race and in Europe with Arsenal.
While Ozil is said to be happy living in London, it is thought that he wants to win more major trophies, and hinted in an interview that hes not been too impressed by the clubs lack of transfer activity this summer.

Manchester United have announced the signing of Paul Pogba in a world-record transfer from Juventus.
Pogba, 23, has signed a five-year contract with the option of a sixth season after United agreed to pay the Italian champions 105million (89m) over the course of two years.
That figure beats the estimated 85m that Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale in 2013 in the previous world-record deal.
Juventus revealed United could owe them a further five million euros (4.25million) if certain sporting targets are reached during the course of Pogba"s contract.
Pogba left United four years ago for a nominal fee, and went on to win four Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia twice while his reputation grew - persuading Jose Mourinho to pay a colossal sum to bring him back to Old Trafford.
"I am delighted to rejoin United," Pogba said. "It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho.

Transcript for Simone Biles" and Gabby Douglas" Moms Dish on Olympics Excitement
First our olympic gymnasts going for the gold in the all-around competition today and Amy sat down he can collusively with the ones they rely on more than their coaches, their moms. Amy is in Rio. For these five young women going for gold today everything they"ve done in their lives has led up to this moment but, you know, they are not the only ones feeling the pressure, their moms are feeling it too but could not be more proud of their girls. Three of the most ferocious fighters of the gymnastics team. Simone Biles. Masterfully put together. Bar routine eighth a stuck landing. Gabby Douglas. And Laurie Hernandez. All wowing the crowd Sunday night in qualifying rounds. We caught up with their moms between the action at the P & G family home in Rio fighting for the group gold medal. You"ve been here before. Yeah. You"ve been through all the excitement and nerves. How is Rio been for you, ngataly? I think it"s different because Gabrielle is four years older and to see the way she"s handling everything now. More settled. Move grounded. For Nelly Biles, her daughter Simone stepping into the spotlight for the first time. The pressure on Simone, does she feel it and all the commentators are saying she"s going to win five gold medals. That"s pressure. I think Simone tries real hard not to pay attention to what the expectation is of others. I believe there"s more pressure on me than on Simone because I am so nervous. I mean, I am just a wreck. I want to know what it was like when you were with your daughters and saw their commercials run for the first time. The first time I saw Simone"s commercial it really brought tears to my eyes. Oh, yeah, I can go bigger. I said she really has moves like no other. I was just overwhelmed by the beauty which she portrayed. And as their daughters prepare to compete tonight the moms are taking it all in, Laurie, the first U.S. Hispanic born gymnast to make the olympic team in 30 years. Talk about being a proud mom. Proud, very proud of Laurie and grateful for the moment. There were days I would get discouraged and she"d be like, let"s do this mom with a big smile. U.s. Women"s gymnastics team. Are they going to take home the gold? For sure. We"re contemplating it. No doubt? No doubt. No doubt. The one thing this team still need, guys, is a nickname. The 1996 gold medal team was known as the magnificent seven and you may remember the 2012 crew was called the fierce five so what happens on that floor tonight could shape what we call the ladies of 2016. But, Lara, I love this one they came up with they called glam squad, gabby, Laurie, Aly and Madison. G.l.a.m. We have two former olympic gymnasts, Dominique dawes, Mckayla Maroney, guys, so happy to hear your perspective. I"ll start with you Dominique. You"ve been there and know exactly what these girls are feeling right now. How do you think that they"re handling the pressure? What"s it like for them as they approach this massive competition. I would say the night before last night they did not get a very good sound sleep. I remember being extremely nervous before the "96 olympic games but throughout the day they"re going to do their Normal routine and eat what they normally eat and dom back and they"ll focus on certain affirmations to make sure they have the right mind-set but I guarantee those moms did not have a great night of sleep either. What was it like for your mom? I can"t watch my daughter play tennis. I"m a mother of two girls and I get nervous when my 2 1/2-year-old -- I can"t speak for my mother"s perspective but my coach was nervous. She was a huge support system to me as well. They spend more time with their coaches than their mothers. Mckayla, I want to ask. You had that game face. We love having you with us. You were a member of the 2012 team that won gold. Injuries derailed you from being at this olympics. You know these girls person personalally. How would you say that these girl, the G.L.A.M. Squad -- I love that name. What you know about them. They"re doing amazing. I talked to Aly. It"s their Normal. It"s their everyday routine and they"ll go out and do their thing. They"ll have fun and enjoy it and hopefully come home with a gold medal. What do you think they do in the moments before? I was a competitive diver. How do you control your breathing when you"re walking out there and have to look totally composed and we talked about game faces we"re seeing. How do they do it today. For myself I always relied on my faith and had a prayer in my head. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Many of those girls may have the same and affirmations and prelims they were ten point as head of the nearest competition so they don"t have pressure. There"s no competitors out there that are close to them. Their biggest competition is between themselves. Yeah. You guys will be watching, I know. Definitely. So excited. They are amazing and so are you. Please come back. Be with us. We want your incite. Mckayla, give us the face. There it is. She"s not impressed. We are so impressed with you guys. I want to say you can see lightning round with Missy franklin and Simone Biles on your website goodmorningamerica.com and you can see rob right now.

Amid all the triumph of the Olympics, all the joys and wonders forged in the sandy fires of Rio, there is, of course, a sense of loss. Dreams quickly rot into disappointment. Favorites fall, nations stumble. And, of course, torches are passedhow fitting for the Olympicsfrom one generation to the next. (These torches are not always passed willingly, of course. Sometimes they must be yanked out of muscled hands.) Just such an event happened last night. Thoughand this is rarethis was an inter-sport transfer. From gymnastics to swimming. From one gold medalist to another.
Travel with me, if you will, back to late early August of 2012. President Obama was involved in a bitter presidential race with handsome horseman Mitt Romney. The Dark Knight Rises was No. 1 at the box office, while Step Up Revolution performed decently in sixth place. We were all four years youngermaybe we had more hair, maybe the baby hadnt been born yet, the dog was still alive, we lived in Seattle then. Lives were different, is what Im saying. So different, in fact, that the Olympics were not being held in Rio de Janeiro at all. No, they were in London. The Foggy Bottom! Or whatever London is called.
The point is, the London Olympics were happening and the American womens-gymnastics team won gold in the team event. Then, they competed in the individual events, also performing well. A young American gymnast, all of 16 years old then, named McKayla Maroney won silver in the vault event, which she was favored to win. Her somewhat peeved reaction during the medal ceremony, an endearing and slightly wicked little sideways frown, became a viral sensation: McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed. This wasnt just a viral sensation, though. It was the viral sensation of the 2012 Olympic games.
The planet has twirled swiftly around the sun four times since then. The baby came, the dog went, we moved to St. Louis. Life happened. And yet still, McKaylas not impressed face remained the official meme of the Olympics. Because nothing had come along to replace it. Until last night, August 8.
In the lead-up to a swimming semi-final race, gold-plated American swimmer Michael Phelpsan athlete so decorated that when the medals have their own Olympics, they win Michael Phelpseswas trying to get his head into the swim zone while rival swimmer, South African speedboat Chad le Clos, preened and stretched right in front of him. Phelps, hood up and face twisted into an angry knot, was psyching himself up for the race so intensely that an NBC camera couldnt help but linger on his scowl, while commentators Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gainesstars of the Olympics greatest love storyriffed about Phelpss funny face. It was a lighthearted, fun moment, and Twitter went nuts for it. A meme bloomed into being, unstoppable and instantly ubiquitous.
And thus, like some powerful spell being broken, McKayla Maroney was free. She is no longer meme queen of the Olympics. The torch, as all torches must someday be, has been passed. And that is, in a way, a kind of loss. Though, Maroney seems relieved. TMZ did a little FaceTime interview with Maroney, now 20, today, and she told them, I looked at his pictures and was like, YES! Go, Michael, take it away, please! So shes glad for it. I suppose we cant blame her.
Now the great Olympic wheel turns on. Were only four days into these Rio games, meaning a whole new meme could pop up and unsettle Mr. Phelpss short time on the throne. (Hes not very used to that happening.) Maybe gymnast Laurie Hernandez will make some silly face, or swimmer Ryan Lochte will moon the pool or something. Who knows! Anything could happen, which is the tense magic of these games. But right now, Michael Phelps is Olympic-meme champion. McKayla Maroneys name will forever hang from the rafters, but she is no longer number one in the world. That era has ended. Phelps reigns, and Maroney starts out on a music career. All part of the churn and drama of this great and epic dance we call sport.
