Misty May-Treanor on life after the Olympics - ClickOnDetroit

Volleyball Workout With Misty May-Treanor

Misty May-Treanor made history with partner Kerri Walsh Jennings -- winning three straight Olympic gold medals in beach volleyball.

Since retiring from the sport, May-Treanor has turned her focus to family. She"s now mom to a two-year-old daughter.

"Time as a family, I think is a lost art. Now especially, knowing how precious that time is. I"m actually making up for lost time since I had to sacrifice so much being an Olympic athlete," said May-Treanor.

May-Treanor now coaches volleyball at a community college. She"s also passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle and has partnered with healthcare company Abbott to get families off the couch with a video series dubbed "Full-Life Hacks."

"The whole point of each of these videos is to get the creative juices flowing for each family," said May-Treanor.

The videos feature fun, inexpensive activities -- from egg and spoon races, to obstacle courses, drumming, even do-it-yourself badminton rackets.

May-Treanor is proof you don"t need fancy equipment to get started.

"My first experience learning volleyball was in our apartment over a coffee table with a balloon," said May-Treanor.

She isn"t going to Rio, but May-Treanor said she will be watching. She is excited to finally see all of the sports she missed while she was busy competing.

"My daughter, she loves swimming. I always enjoy the gymnastics. I was a big track athlete, so I"m looking forward to track and field," said May-Treanor.

She hopes the olympics will inspire families to create some healthy competition.

"It could be over this two week span that families play different activities every day and see who comes out on top, so they can have their own mini family Olympics," said May-Treanor.

Yasiel Puig goes crazy celebrating Monica Puig"s historic gold medal

Though being demoted to Triple A wasnt an ideal scenario for Yasiel Puig, it has afforded him opportunitieshe may not have otherwise had.

For example, Puig spent some time bonding with his new teammates at Oklahoma City this week by hunting Pokemon. Could you imagine Puig chasing Pokemon around Los Angeles? Highly unlikely, as were sure his schedule was typically full.

[Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now]

Heres another big advantage. While the Dodgers were playing an afternoon game on Saturday, Puig was free to watch the Olympics and cheer on his favorite tennis player, Monica Puig.

No, the two are not related, but sharing a last name can still create a bond or at least stir some emotions.Thats especially true given the historic overtones of Monica Puigs match in Rio. The 22-year-old tennis star was attempting to become the first-ever gold medalist in Puerto Ricos Olympic history when she squared off against Germanys Angelique Kerber.

How did she do?

Well let Yasiel Puig tell the story.

Go crazy, Yasiel! Go crazy.

Puig won match in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. The victory is considered a pretty big upset in the tennis ranks asPuig entered the match 34th in the world, while Kerber came in at No. 2. Youd never know that though based on Puig running away in the third set. Puig won the first five games of the third set before clinching the match.

From there, the celebration was on, with the Cuban Yasiel Puig leading the charge from Oklahoma Citys clubhouse. Monica Puig probably couldnt feel his support, but shell soon be uplifted by an entire country thats proud of her historic accomplishment.

If you cant handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only, Gomez wrote. Dont be mad at your fans. They love you.

Bieber later replied to Gomez"s comment, writing, "It"s funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love."

He followed it up five minutes later with another comment that was screen-grabbed by a Gomez fan: "I"m not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and eachother. And yes I love my beliebers."

Whats Streaming

BLACK ORPHEUS (1959) on Amazon, Fandor and iTunes. The French director Marcel Camus transplants the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to a favela in Rio de Janeiro as a young couple (Breno Mello and Marpessa Dawn) falls rapturously in love at the height of Carnival madness. But it really is not the two lovers that are the focus of interest in this film; it is the music, the movement, the storm of color that go into the two-day festival, Bosley Crowther wrote in The New York Times about this Oscar winner for best foreign-language film. The language spoken, incidentally, is Brazilian Portuguese, which is translated in English subtitles that completely lack the samba beat, he added. A cat with a cool vocabulary should have been turned loose on them.

Protests are continuing in Milwaukee two days after police shot dead a 23-year-old African-American man named Sylville Smith. Britain"s Justin Rose Wins 1st Olympics Golf Gold Since 1904

Justin Rose"s Fantastic Golf Shots 2015 Quicken Loans PGA Tour

Justin Rose delivered a gold-medal performance in golf that was worth a 112-year wait.

In a final round that was tense from the opening hole, Rose hit a pitch to 3 feet for birdie on the par-5 18th hole at Olympic Golf Course for a 4-under 67 and a two-shot victory over Henrik Stenson to win the first gold medal in golf since 1904 in St. Louis.

And the 36-year-old from Great Britain showed how much in mattered.

As the final putt fell into the cup, Rose thrust his fist into the air and popped the British crest on his shirt before turning to embrace Stenson.

Stenson already made it through one big duel this summer at Royal Troon to win the British Open. Along the back nine, the 40-year-old Swede"s back began to act up, and Stenson had a physiotherapist work on it on the 14th hole. He kept firing away, however, hitting a tough pitch to 4 feet for birdie on the 16th to tie for the lead.

They remained tied playing the 18th, with fans lining both sides of the fairway and crammed into the grandstands. Stenson"s pitch from 50 yards came up short, just over 20 feet away. Knowing that Rose was tight for birdie, Stenson rammed his birdie putt some 7 feet by the cup and missed the par putt, giving him a 3-under 68.

The bogey wasn"t enough to take the silver away from Stenson.

Matt Kuchar of the United States, starting the final round seven shots out of the lead, provided his own thrills. Kuchar went 6 under during a six-hole stretch that he capped off with a 15-foot eagle on the 10th hole to get him in the mix, and his wedge to 2 feet for birdie on the 17th put him one shot behind.

He failed to birdie the 18th, however, and his 63 was good enough for the bronze.

"I can"t explain the pride to you that"s just busting out of my chest," Kuchar said.

Rose is the first gold medalist in golf since George Lyon of Canada won against a field of mostly Americans. Golf organizations lobbied hard to get the sport back into the Olympics, only for some of the biggest stars including the top four in the world to withdraw in the month leading up to the Rio Games for reasons that ranged from fears over the Zika virus to security.

The lasting memory of its debut was Rose and Stenson going at it for more than five hours, neither with more than a one-stroke advantage the entire round. And there was Rose at the end, pumping his fists as the fans waved the Union Jack around the 18th green.
