Source: Phillies have gotten trade "nibbles" on Carlos Ruiz

Carlos Ruiz Guatemala leyenda 2012 HD

LOS ANGELES -- San Francisco lefty Matt Moore lost his no-hit bid with two outs in the ninth inning on a soft, clean single by Corey Seager, and the Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 Thursday night.

Moore"s try ended on his 133rd and final pitch -- he missed most of the last two seasons after Tommy John surgery. He was immediately pulled after Seager"s***t plopped onto the grass in shallow right field.

Giants center fielder Denard Span sprinted for two outstanding catches, including a leadoff grab in the ninth, to give Moore a chance.

Moore earned his first win for the Giants since they got him in a trade with Tampa Bay on Aug. 1.

Moore nearly gave San Francisco a major league record five straight years with a no-hitter. And he almost became the first Giants pitcher to no-hit the archrival Dodgers since 1915, when New York"s Rube Marquard stopped Brooklyn (see full recap).

De Aza sparks Mets" win over CardinalsST. LOUIS -- Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright lost his glove trying to tag out Yoenis Cespedes and lost the game, too, when Alejandro De Aza homered and drove in five runs to send the New York Mets over St. Louis 10-6 Thursday night.

Seth Lugo (1-2) pitched five scoreless innings for his first big league win. The Mets took two of three to win their first series at Busch Stadium since 2008.

Brandon Moss hit two home runs for the Cardinals and Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty also connected.

The Mets led 3-0 in the fifth when Wainwright (9-8) and Cespedes were involved in a bizarre play.

Cespedes tried to go from first to third on a bloop single by James Loney. When several Cardinals chased the ball, Wainwright covered third base. Cespedes slid and his cleat pinned Wainwright"s glove to the bag -- he would"ve been out, but when Wainwright pulled away his hand, the mitt stayed stuck under Cespedes" foot.

Because Wainwright didn"t control the ball, Cespedes was called safe in a ruling upheld by replay. Moments later, De Aza hit a three-run homer to make it 7-0 (see full recap).

Scherzer"s arm, Harper"s bat help Nats blank O"sWASHINGTON -- Max Scherzer allowed two hits over eight innings and Bryce Harper"s two-run double helped the Washington Nationals avoid a four-game home-and-home sweep with a 4-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.

Scherzer (14-7) struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. He retired 12 straight after Adam Jones"s fourth-inning double and 21 of 22 before Mark Trumbo"s leadoff single in the eighth.

Jayson Werth"s solo home run staked Washington to a 1-0 lead. Daniel Murphy"s RBI double in the eighth came before Harper"s second hit helped the Nationals pull away.

The Nationals had lost four straight including three in a row to the Orioles, who won twice in Baltimore before the teams shifted to Washington.

Ubaldo Jimenez (5-11) allowed one run and five hits over six innings (see full recap).

Escobar pushes surging Royals past MarlinsMIAMI -- Alcides Escobar homered and drove in two runs to lead the surging Kansas City Royals past the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Thursday night.

Salvador Perez and Kendrys Morales also drove in runs for the Royals as the defending World Series champions have won 15 of 18 to pull within four games of the second AL wild card spot.

Kansas City starter Edison Volquez (10-10) pitched five innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, and three hits.

The Royals" bullpen, which has been a successful formula for the reigning two-time AL pennant winners, pitched four scoreless innings to push their franchise-record scoreless streak to 38 2-3 innings -- the best in the majors since 2002-03 when San Francisco tossed 39 1-3 straight.

Kelvin Herrera pitched a flawless ninth for his ninth save in 11 chances.

Tom Koehler (9-9) allowed four runs, three earned, and seven hits in six innings for the Marlins (see full recap).

Who will replace Hope Solo on USWNT?

Hope Solo suspended six months by U.S. Soccer

U.S. Soccer has terminated Hope Solos contract and suspended the record-setting goalkeeperfrom the U.S. Womens National Team for six monthsfor conduct that is counter to the organizations principles. After the U.S. lost to Sweden in the Olympic quarterfinal, she called her opponent cowards.

So if shes not eligible for national team selection until Feb. 2017,who will replace her?

Right now, coach Jill Ellis has two main options at goalkeeper: Alyssa Naeher, who was Solos backup at the Olympics, and Ashlyn Harris, Solos backup at the World Cup last year and an alternate in Rio.

Neither has the experience, caps or accolades as Solo, but theyll have to step up and earn a starting job. Because what if Solos career is finished? It realisticallycould be at this point. Solo, who has been the USWNTs starting goalkeeper since 2005, is35 now, which means shell be 38 at the 2018 World Cup and 39 at the next Olympics. She had an overall disappointing performance in Brazil, even letting the ball slip between her legsagainst Colombia. Not to mentionthe other headaches shes caused U.S. Soccer.

If she doesnt return, these are the two most obvious choices:

Alyssa Naeher, 28 (caps: 7)

Naeher has been part of the USWNT for the last year, including the Rio Olympics, 2015 World Cup, and 2015 Algarve Cup. She played as a substitute for a few victory tour matches following the World Cup. She earned her first cap in a shutout victory against Argentina in 2014. She was the third string goalkeeper during the Olympics, but moved ahead of Ashlyn Harrisfor the No. 2 spot during the Olympics.

Plays professionally for the Chicago Red Stars.

Ashlyn Harris, 30 (caps: 8)

Solos backup at the 2015 World Cup, she didnt start any matches in Canada, but did during the Victory Tour. Has had several injuries hamper her college and professional career, and was demoted to alternate (third string) for the Rio Olympics behind Naeher.

She plays professionally for the Orlando Pride.

The USWNT is back on the field twice next month in a pair of friendlies against Thailand (Sept. 15) and the Netherlands (Sept. 18).

Hope Solo"s suspension means her USWNT career is probably over

There have not been any immediate reports of major injuries or fatalities across Indiana or Ohio due to the severe thunderstorms. According to the Indiana State Police, approximately 15-20 people suffered minor injuries in rural Howard County and Kokomo. The injuries were largely the result of flying debris.

The Indiana Red Cross and Salvation Army are already in Kokomo to assess the damage and to help those affected by the severe weather.

There were also numerous reports of tornadoes in northwest Ohio Wednesday evening. According to preliminary data from the Storm Prediction Center, there were at least 40 tornado reports across Indiana and Ohio.

Mylan to Lower EpiPen Cost for Some Patients

Claman Confidential: Louisiana Sen. says EpiPen price hike is concerning
Video Mylan Chief on the $600 EpiPen

Heather Bresch, chief executive of Mylan, discusses the controversy surrounding the recent 400-percent increase in her companys life-saving allergy injector.

By CNBC on Publish Date August 25, 2016. Photo by CNBC. Watch in Times Video

Responding to a growing furor from consumers and politicians, the pharmaceutical company Mylan said on Thursday that it would lower the cost to some patients of the EpiPen, which is used to treat life-threatening allergy attacks.

The company said it would take immediate action, including providing a savings card that would cover up to $300 of the cost of a pack of two EpiPens, an increase from the $100 savings card it had been offering.

It also said it would increase the number of patients eligible for its assistance program, which provides the product free to patients who have incomes below a certain level and lack insurance coverage for drugs.

Mylan has steadily increased the price of EpiPen a pack of two now has a list price of about $600, compared with about $100 when it acquired the product in 2007. In the last couple of years, the company has imposed two 15 percent price increases a year.

This has provoked outrage from some parents who are confronting the higher prices as they buy the product for their children returning to school. The Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, said on Wednesday that it was outrageous to increase so drastically the price of a product that people needed to survive. Members of Congress have also called for investigations into Mylans practices.

The new moves will probably not fully mollify the critics. For one thing, Mylan is not lowering the list price of EpiPen, just making it easier for consumers to pay for it. So insurance companies, federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid and school districts that stock the products could still pay the same price.

Also, in its statement, Mylan put much of the blame for the problem not on its price increases but on insurance companies for placing a higher burden on patients for out-of-pocket costs.

We have been a long-term, committed partner to the allergy community and are taking immediate action to help ensure that everyone who needs an EpiPen Auto-Injector gets one, Heather Bresch, Mylans chief executive, said in a statement. We recognize the significant burden on patients from continued, rising insurance premiums and being forced increasingly to pay the full list price for medicines at the pharmacy counter.

The EpiPen is an auto-injector containing the hormone epinephrine, which can be used to counter or stave off anaphylactic shock caused by an insect bite or food allergy. It is pressed against the thigh and automatically injects the drug.

Mylan said most commercially insured patients were already being helped by its savings coupon and many paid no out-of-pocket costs. But more patients now have high-deductible health plans and were having to pay the full cost. For those patients, using the $300 savings card would cut their costs by half.

Also, the companys patient assistance program will now cover those with incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level, compared with 200 percent previously.

Mylan said it would also allow patients to order EpiPens directly from the company, reducing their cost.

Mylan also said that more than half the amount paid by the health care system for EpiPens goes to pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, wholesalers and pharmacy retailers, not to the company itself.

The company said its net price for the product what it actually receives after rebates, discounts, patient assistance and product donations is $274 of the list price of $608, resulting in annual sales of $1.1 billion to the company from the product. The other parties, it said, get $334 per prescription, or $1.3 billion a year.

The pharmaceutical industry, under siege for high prices, is trying to point fingers at insurers and pharmacy benefit managers. Stocks of biotechnology companies dropped across the board on Wednesday after Ms. Clinton criticized Mylan and vowed to take action on drug prices if elected.
