San Francisco 49ers cut Bruce Miller after he allegedly attacked 70-year-old and son

Bruce Miller surveillance video

On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers released 29-year-old tight end Bruce Miller after he was arrested earlier in theday for allegedly attacking a 29-year-old man and his 70-year-old father.

On Sunday afternoon, Miller posted a photograph to his Instagram account showing him and two others sitting at the bar at the Palm House restaurant in San Francisco. It included the captionSundays are for the boys, and it was directed to the official account for Nike and an account with the handle kanye, which included no posts.

An unidentified employee of the restaurant told KTVU that Miller visited the bar three different times that night and that he was hammered.

According to police, hours later at some time past 2:40 a.m. Monday morning an extremely intoxicated Miller attempted to renta room attheMarriott Fishermans Wharf hotel in San Francisco, only to discover it was fully booked.

He then proceeded to head upstairs anyway, where he attempted to enter the room of an elderly couple staying there. The unnamed couples 29-year-old son was staying in the next room over.

After hearing the commotion, the son approached Miller and told him he had the wrong room.

In response, the 248-pound, 6-foot-2 Miller allegedly attacked him.

The mans 70-year-old father triedto help break up the fight, but Miller allegedly punched him, breaking bones in his face and knocking him unconscious, KTVU reported.

Both father and son were brought to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.

At that point, Miller fled to a Travelodge next door.

Dinesh Shreshta, the front desk manager at Travelodge, told NBC Bay Areathat Miller was sitting on a flight of stairs in the hotel, vomiting intermittently and bleeding from a wound on his forehead.

Shreshta called 911.

Miller was arrested four felony counts two of criminal threats, one of assault with a deadly weapon (not a firearm), and one of elder abuse and a misdemeanor battery charge. He was booked into the San Francisco County Jail, where his bail was set at $178,000 bail, ESPN reported.

Miller left the jail around 2 p.m. on Monday through a back exit, NBC reported.

Early Monday morning, the 49ers addressed the incident in a statement obtained by ESPN.

The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the media report regarding Bruce Miller, it read. We are gathering the relevant facts of this matter and will continue to monitor the situation.

A few hours later, the organization used its official Twitter account to announce that Miller had been released from the team.

This isnt Millers first run-in with the law since being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL draft.

In March 2015, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace after being accused of shoving his ex-fiancee and smashing her cellphone during an argument in Santa Clara, the Associated Press reported.

As part of his sentence, Miller was required to attend a class on stopping domestic violence for 16 weeks.

On Monday, Millers agent and lawyer Jack Reale told the Associated Press that he was still gathering information. Miller himself did not respond to the APsrequest for comment. It is unclear if he has entered a plea.

As of early Tuesday morning, the last post on Millers Twitter feed wasa link to the aforementioned Instagram post with an emoji depicting a hand curled into the rock-and-roll gesture.

If youre in the market for a new microwave this Labor Day, youre in luck. Retailers are putting appliances on sale, figuring students heading to college will need them.

WalletHub hasput together a list of Labor Day deals. For things like...

Appliances like dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators," said Jill Gonzalez, an analyst for WalletHub. "And then an outlier here is strollers.

Strollers? Yeah the birth rate spikes in August. Because of holiday babies.

And if you need a new car for your growing family, youre also in luck. Car sales have been weak, so dealers might be willing to deal.

Theyll have to get rid of some of their inventory because August was rather weak and theyre going to use Labor Day as a starting point to do that, said Chris Christopher, director of consumer economics at IHS Global Insight.

Whatever you do, dont shop for clothes or jewelry today. Those things dont go on sale until Black Friday.

Miniseries explores origin of Harley-Davidson

2017 Harley-Davidson Milwaukee Eight Revealed │Everything you need to know │Detailed Footage

By Luaine Lee, Tribune News Service

While the Wright brothers were plotting to make man fly, two other brothers and a pal were scheming to make man soar on two wheels. That trio was Arthur and Walter Davidson and their partner, William S. Harley.

Their dream was to create a motorized bicycle that could speed up to 100 mph while managing to remain upright. How they accomplished that in a wooden shed in 1903 is the tale of "Harley and the Davidsons," premiering at 9 p.m. Monday on the Discovery Channel.

Filmed in South Africa, the series chronicles the ambitions of three young men who eventually established the iconic Harley-Davidson Inc. and their legendary HOG.

The invention attracted speed junkies and soon daredevil riders were competing in races. "I think the reality was at the time, motorcycling was an incredibly dangerous activity, and motorcycle racing particularly was extremely dangerous," says Dimitri Doganis, executive producer of the three-part miniseries, which airs on consecutive nights.

"The first episode ends in a large race in what was called "Motordromes," which were these very steeply banked, kind of velodromes for motorcycles. But at those events the bikes had no brakes. They had no gears. You would turn them on. They would go as fast as they could go," says Doganis.

Gabe Luna plays one of those early motorcycle racers, a historical figure, says Doganis. "(They were) racing around a wooden track, which, the moment it got covered in oil and these things would spew oil became incredibly slick, like an ice rink.

"And the historical data was that these things were not only hugely dangerous to the riders because they would knock each other out; they would spin out. They were also massively dangerous to the spectators because the bikes would fly out into the crowds. And there were various historical examples of people being killed or fires being started or multiple spectators being killed in any one instant. So this was a gladiatorial arena, and it was really the birth of an incredibly exciting sport, but one which wasn"t yet regulated at the time which we depict "

Michiel Huisman, ("Game of Thrones") who plays the older brother, Walter Davidson, explains, "We portray the three founders. I think what stood out to me is how individual they were and how much they complemented each other. I don"t think the company could have become what it became without any one of them. You know, they really needed each other."

"It"s a really great example of how three very different minds can come together on something," says Bug Hall ("Revolution"), who plays Arthur. "And, you know, really their love for each other was more unifying, I think, even more than the machine that they made. But just their differences is what really molded and sculpted this amazing thing."

"One of the things that really drew me and to my character in particular was there was an enormous level of creativity and, I believe, artistry involved in the creation of this machine," says Robert Aramayo ("Game of Thrones"), who portrays Bill Harley.

"I"m really happy that my character highlights that. But I would agree with these two. It"s the love between all three characters and what is produced from that love that really attracted me to this."

Alex Wheeler was enlisted to re-create the bikes of the era. It turned out to be no small task. "When we were asked to make them, we had to make the decision whether we were going to make the engines from scratch or try and use something that exists. And there"s just nothing out there that looks remotely like a 1903 Harley-Davidson motor," he says.

"So we took a very big, brave decision to actually manufacture the motors from scratch. And they were built in South Africa from billet aluminium. And we worked from pictures, and we brought it to the best guy we could until we came up with the bikes that we saw on screen."

Huisman actually got to ride one of Wheeler"s bikes. "And it was really like a dream to ride Harley-Davidsons or replicas of bikes that either don"t exist anymore or they"re behind glass at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee," he says.

"And they were great fun to ride and very challenging to ride. But I think, even compared to the old ones, they were probably really smooth And the old ones, it was even harder. You basically had to be half a mechanic yourself. Now, I"m not a mechanic, but I had Alex and four guys following me all the time basically."

Not all of the actors knew how to ride before they took on the roles. Huisman says he could. "I rode a motorcycle all throughout my 20s, and I thought I would never get in a car. Eventually my wife and I had a child, and I got in a car."

Churchill"s Secret Revealed On PBS

It"s a different Winston Churchill we"ll see when PBS airs "Churchill"s Secret," on Sept. 11. It seems that Britain"s famous prime minister suffered strokes while still in office, and no one knew. Charles Sturridge, who directed "Churchill"s Secret," says, "What this film tells, though, is the story of a kind of extraordinary personal battle, which his doctors thought he was going to die, basically. That weekend, he wrote in his diary, "I think this is it." And he does make an extraordinary recovery, and recovery is possible from strokes.

"But I was very much reminded when I came into this, not only having recently experienced a stroke, but also having worked with (Laurence) Olivier when he had cancer. And he treated cancer as just another battle he was going to fight. In fact, another thing he was going to be the best in the world at. And he took it entirely personally, entirely not medically. He didn"t care what the doctors said. He wasn"t interested in the drugs. He just saw it as another thing he had to beat, as he he"d beaten things all along. And I think there was an element of that personal vain, ego-driven, if you"d like, but, nonetheless, kind of a very daring attack on the disease that"s attacking you."

Kids Nixed On Pilot

Next Monday the potty-mouthed comedienne Nicole Byer stars in her own sitcom, "Loosely Exactly Nicole" on MTV. Byer says she wangled the series by simply insisting. "I kept being, like, "Give me a scripted show. I"m not going away. Give it to me." And then they said, "Sure." And then made it into a pilot. Christian (Lander) wrote a beautiful pilot and had a bunch of kids in it. And we were, like, "No, thank you." Kids, their novelty wears off so fast. But we honestly, after 15 minutes, I was like, "Go home.""

So the kids went home and they shot without them. Lander explains, "She is a very unique person. She"s hilarious. And I think when we met, within about four minutes, we realized how different we were in a lot of ways. Like, Nicole sometimes forgets to pay taxes, loses her passport, and things like that. I"m quite the opposite. I"m a very uptight person. And I knew it was someone I definitely wanted to work with and write for. So we did the pilot with kids, and it was fine. I think that the bigger problem, though, is that when the kids are around, you kind of have to check Nicole"s mouth a little more."

Johnny Football is back in school.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and Cleveland Browns quarterback has re-enrolled at Texas A&M, a source close to Manziel confirmed Monday morning.

Manziel left for the NFL before completing the courses required to receive his degree in recreation, parks and tourism sciences. He is currently listed as a senior.

The Tyler native and former Kerrville Tivy standout will continue to live in Los Angeles and take online classes, according to TexAgs.com"s Billy Liucci.

It"s unclear how many hours Manziel is taking this semester, according to a source. Someon Twitter started wondering Mondayif the embattled Aggies legend was back in College Station.

According to this screenshot, it looks like Manziel is interested in getting a degree.

If your eyes can"t squint a ton, he says, "I am an RPTS major and have been out of school a couple of years but I"m trying to get back on track so I can graduate."

Per his Snapchat account, Manziel was recently in College Station.

Manziel hasplayed 15 games in the NFL since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 draft. The Browns released him in March (just part of what"s been a tumultuous year)and he currently facesa misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

If and when he ever returns to the league, he must first serve a four-game suspension for violating the league"s substance abuse policy.

But as of now, it looks like he won"t be playing professional football again in the near future. Over the weekend, Manziel was spotted on campus, a place where Aggies may see him often this fall.

Viewpoint: Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day! Have a Popsicle — Snack Break

Michelle Wilson 4:03 p.m. CDT September 5, 2016

Michelle Wilson(Photo: Special to the News Journal)

One hundred and twenty-two years ago, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation declaring the first Monday in September to be Labor Day. Today, this holiday is more linked to the unofficial end of summer, the beginning of the school year or the start of football season. What has been forgotten about this long weekend is that it celebrates American workers contributions to our society.

Each year, families gather together for backyard picnics, dips in the pool or simply just catching some Zs on the couch for a little rest and relaxation. Some towns hold parades or promote other tourist-friendly events. Unfortunately, its easy to lose focus on the meaning of Labor Day when youre trying to eke out one more day of summer vacation with the kids. However, on this day, lets all refocus and try to recognize why this day even exists.

The notion of celebrating the American worker first surfaced in the early 1880s during the infancy of the American labor movement. Regrettably, it took a nationwide railroad strike of nearly 4,000 factory employees in the 1894 infamous Pullman strike to get things started. These workers began a wildcat strike in response to recent reductions in wages.

In the end, 30 people were killed at the hands of the U.S. military and the U.S marshals and striker violence caused $80 million in damage.

In an effort to conciliate organized labor after the strike, President Grover Cleveland and Congress joined forces to declare Labor Day a national holiday. This would begin more than a century of recognition and homage to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our nation.

While it is true that in 1894 it was important to recognize American workers, our contemporary society must follow suit and celebrate their importance more than ever.

This is especially true under the difficult and challenging economic conditions of the past decade.

Throughout these demanding times, American workers continue to lead the world in productivity, as they work longer hours than their global counterparts. American workers strive to build the highest standard of living in the world and they often do it without recognition or praise. I believe the American workforce could go on and on.

As executive director of the Florida Commission on Human Relations, I am blessed to oversee our team of dedicated individuals who remain committed to serving workers and businesses across the Sunshine State. They work hard each day to ensure that all Florida workers are treated fairly and given access to opportunities in employment and are not subject to unlawful discrimination.

As we celebrate this long weekend, lets not forget the many successes of the American worker and the critical roles they continue to play in making this a great nation.

Attention Seattle sportswriters: Do not forget about the Reign, or Megan Rapinoe will come for you

Red Stars Press Conference: Megan Rapinoe & Laura Harvey of Seattle Reign

By D"Arcy Maine | Aug 31, 2016espnW.com

Matt Calkins, a columnist for The Seattle Times, wrote an article during the weekend calling the city "Contention Town,"and praising many area teams for their title chances. From the Seahawks to the Mariners to the University of Washington football and basketball teams, Calkins made a convincing case for several of the state"s teams.

There was just one little omission. And Megan Rapinoe was having none of it. Responding to the article on Twitter, the U.S. women"s national team star and Seattle Reign member posted a friendly reminder about her team"s existence -- complete with perfect emojis.

I"m guessing no one will be making this omission again. YOU TELL "EM, "PINOE.
