Mexico vs. Honduras: Score, Reaction from World Cup 2018 Qualifier

Mexico entered Tuesday night"s 2018 CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against Honduras with the top spot in Group A locked up, and it played a fairly mundane game as the two sides played to a scoreless draw at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

By virtue of the tie and superior goal differential, Honduras finished second in Group A and advanced to the Hexagonal round of qualifying as it just edged out a Canadian side that dispatched El Salvador 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Here"s a look at the final Group A standings now that the fourth round of CONCACAF qualifying has come to a close:

As expected, Honduras came out with far more fire than the opposition in a game that amounted to nothing more than a formality for Mexico.

Seeking to put the clamps on the second spot in Group A, Honduras applied a few waves of attacking pressure throughout the first 25 minutes and outshot the Mexicans 5-1 in that span.

However, early runs and dead-ball opportunities yielded little in the way of quality chances, and the two sides entered halftime knotted at zero as neither side wielded a particularly strong sense of urgency.

ESPN FC"s Cesar Hernandez provided a concise overview of the game"s relatively uninspiring first frame:

Mexico ramped up its offensive energy over the first 10 minutes of the second half, and it showed whenHirving Lozano andAndres Guardado paced an attack that nearly found twine on several occasions and made Honduras start to sweat.

But despite El Tri"s best efforts, a go-ahead goal proved elusive, even though Honduras settled back and appeared to embrace a strategy that hinged on keeping things level at nil-nil.

And while that strategy provided some aesthetically displeasing results, it paid off for a side that had its eyes on the final round of World Cup qualifying.

Next up for Mexico is a meeting with the United States on Nov. 11.

After the U.S. squashed Trinidad and Tobago, 4-0, on Tuesday night at EverBank field to clinch the top spot in Group C, it earned the right to host Mexico in the opening game of Hex play when qualifying resumes in just over two months.

The bad news for El Tri is that the key clash will take place in Columbus, Ohio, where the U.S. is 4-0 against Mexico with all four victories coming by a 2-0 margin, according toSports Illustrated"s Grant Wahl.

And after Mexico defeated the Americans 3-2 at the Rose Bowl in the 2015 CONCACAF Cup, Jurgen Klinsmann"s side will undoubtedly be focused on exacting revenge behind the play of rising superstar Christian Pulisic.

Calvin Harris is certainly keeping busy! After the Scottish DJ was spotted out arm-in-arm with Mexican star Eiza Gonzalez on Saturday, he attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday night.

At the event, which was held in the Tate Modern Museum, Harris sat with and posed with his ex Ellie Goulding. The pair reportedly dated back in 2013, but have remained close friends and collaborators since.

Goulding is also notably pals with Harris" ex, Taylor Swift, and previously took credit for setting the two up.

"I did play matchmaker, that"s true," Goulding told The Sun in June 2015. "Calvin is a really great mate and he"s so fantastic, and Taylor is such a cool person who I love."

Swift and Harris split in June of this year and almost immediately after she was spotted out with British actor Tom Hiddleston. The pair had a whirlwind romance, traveling around the globe together and meeting one another"s families.

But ET confirmed on Tuesday that the celebrity couple had officially split after three months together. Though the breakup was reportedly "amicable," sources told Us Weekly that Swift was the one to end things due to her discomfort over how public Hiddleston wanted their relationship to be.

Harris and Swift"s split started off on good terms, with the DJ even tweeting a kind message about the end of their relationship. But things took a turn in July when Swift"s rep confirmed that she penned Harris" hit song "This Is What You Came Here For."

"Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though," he tweeted at the time. "I figure if you"re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do."

Greta Van Susteren"s Surprise Exit From Fox News Triggers �Who"s Next� Talk

In the wake of todays surprise news that Greta Van Susteren had exited Fox News Channel effective immediately, chatter turned to whether it might be the start of a key man exodus.

FNC announced this morning that Thursday had been Van Susterens last day and that FNC senior political analyst Brit Hume was taking over her time slot today, through the presidential election. Van Susteren, meanwhile, took to Facebook to explain that she took advantage of that much-discussed clause in her contract allowing her to leave now, explaining her hasty exit with: The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait.

Like Van Susteren, Bill OReilly, Sean Hannity and Bret Baier have key man clauses in their contracts that allow them to leave if Fox News chief Roger Ailes departed. Which, of course, Ailes did in July, as FNC parent 21st Century Fox investigated Ailes and the network after Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes. It is unclear if the others had the same 60-day exit window as did Van Susteren.

Nearly simultaneous to FNCs Van Susteren/Hume announcementwhich took staffers by surprise, informed sources say, and which even Fox News media pundit Howard Kurtz conceded was abrupt 21st Century Fox announced this morning Carlson had settled her lawsuit.

With Van Susterens departure, focus now turns to other other show hosts, as well as well as Megyn Kelly, whose contract expires in July.

Van Susteren and the rest of the Key Man Clause gang were among those speculated to be maybe ready to take a powder in protest should Ailes be pushed out the door. But after Fox News began sharing details of the allegations Ailes was denying, those reports seemed to come to a swift end.

Van Susteren very publicly expressed her support for Ailes after Carlson filed her suit, for which Van Susteren took heat in some quarters.

But other Key Man club members did as well. Hannity, for instance, wondered, via Twitter: So why did u stay after such harassment asking for more airtime? If u had a new contract would u sue? I doubt it. Hannity also tweeted, Why did GC send handwritten notes with smiley faces asking for more airtime after the alleged traumatic incident?

(Van Susterens temporary replacement Hume also had tweeted a Carlson dig, suggesting that such a suit has more credibility if the person filing does so before they are let go by the network.)

Meanwhile, in marked contrast to the others on the list of People Who Might Follow Ailes Out the Door, is Kelly. She made headlines when a report broke shed told investigators she too had allegedly experienced unwanted advances from Ailes, years ago. Kellys contract comes up in July, though The Kelly File host might be angling for a more interview/magazine-style show, as evidenced by her May sweep primetime special on Fox broadcast network. That special, in which she staged her made-for-TV kiss-and-make-up with Donald Trump, was exec produced by Bill Geddie, best known for exec producing Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People celebrity interview shows. The special was not an unqualified ratings success on the broadcast network.

Van Susteren, an attorney who previously hosted a CNN legal show, is interested in going to another network. In todays announcement FNC co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine jointly said, We are grateful for Gretas many contributions over the years and wish her continued success.

"The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" star Hugh O"Brian passes away at 91

LOS ANGELES: Hugh O"Brian, popularly known for playing lawman Wyatt Earp on the ABC series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" has passed away. He was 91.

The actor died peacefully in his Beverly Hills home on Monday morning, the Hugh O"Brian Youth (HOBY) leadership organization confirmed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Rochester, New York, O"Brian rose to fame on television as the quick-drawing Wyatt Earp when he was chosen to portray the legendary lawman in 1955.

He also played the famed lawman in a 1956 episode of ABC"s "Make Room for Daddy", "Guns of Paradise" (1989), "The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw" (1991) and in the 1994 CBS TV movie "Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone".

O"Brian appeared regularly on other popular programs like "The Nat King Cole Show", "The Jackie Gleason Show", "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show" all in 1957.

The actor made a number of motion pictures including, "Rocketship X-M" (1950), "The Lawless Breed" (1953), "There"s No Business Like Show Business" (1954), "Ten Little Indians" (1965) and Ambush Bay (1966).

He was also known for his noble causes. He launched HOBY in 1958 to teach 10th class students to become future leaders, and almost 60 years later, the program has more than four lakh alumni.

In addition to his wife, O"Brian is survived by his brother, Don Krampe, a co-founder of his foundation.

All Martha Montoyas daughter wanted for her 13th birthday was for her stepfather to move out.

It was a gift that Montoya died trying to give her.

Walter Ricardo Lopez Barrios, who Montoyas two daughters said was overly affectionate, awakened Montoya early on Aug. 20, the eve of her daughters big day. He killed the 56-year-old womanwith a sledgehammer and a knifein the early morning attack, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office.

Two weeks later, Lopez Barrios is in the county jail awaiting a Sept. 19 court appearance. Montoyas teenage girls whom The Palm Beach Post is not naming because they are minors are with family members in Lake Worth.

Family members said the younger girl spends spare moments replaying 911 calls and reading news accounts about her mothers futile, and final, attempt at making her stepfather leave. Her older sister, 16, cant silence the memory of their mothers screams.

In love with being in love

Monica Collins remembers her wild girl cousin Montoya rushing to Florida from Cali, Colombia, in the 1980s. Montoya spent the next few years traveling, and falling in and out of love, Collins said.

The free spirit eventually settled in Lake Worth, took a job at The Breakers and had two daughters.

To help pay the bills, Montoya rented part of her Lake Worth home and Lopez Barrios moved in a decade ago.

The tenant and Montoya started as friends, then the relationship grew romantic. They married in 2011.

Collins remembers the 37-year-old Guatemalan citizen as respectful and quiet, though the marriage wasnt perfect.

Collins recalls Lopez Barrios stranding Montoya and her daughters on the side of a road after an argument.

But Montoya didnt give up.

Martha was in love with being in love, Collins said, even if it turned out to be the wrong thing.

A better life

Above romance, though, were her girls, and she was unwavering in her insistence that theyd have a better life.

They would be the first in the family to graduate from college, and they would go into the world debt-free.

Montoya started putting money toward that dream before the girls could talk, according to Michael Garrett, her co-worker at The Breakers. She worked at the Palm Beach resort for more than 23 years.

Her co-workers at the hotel are intent on finishing those payments and have raised more than $6,000.

Montoyas oldest daughter, a high school junior, immerses herself in piles of homework from her honors classes. But her nights are restless, Collins said. When she wakes up, shes unsure if her pillow is wet from sweat or tears.

Montoyas family is busy sorting out the details of the girls lives custody, housing, therapy and other tasks that their mother would have done.

Her co-workers, too, are adjusting to life without Montoyas motherly spirit, said Garrett, general manager of in-room dining at The Breakers. Montoya was the first to nurse her sniffly coworkers or to entertain young guests.

A car crash, a heart attack stuff like that, thats natural, he said. Something like this, theres no wrapping your head around it.

Fox News and Roger Ailes settle sexual harassment lawsuit by Gretchen Carlson

Fox News and Roger Ailes have reached a settlement in the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Fox News parent company 21st Century Fox also issued an apology to Carlson, who accusedAiles ofsabotaging her career after she rebuffed sexual advances and complained about a hostile work environment. Her contract was not renewed in June after 11 years at Fox News Channel.

At the same time the settlement was announced, Fox News also revealed that Greta Van Susteren is leaving the company. Van Susteren was an anchor for 14 years. Two people briefed on the matter who were not authorized to comment publicly said her abrupt exit was due to a financial disagreement.

Political analyst Brit Hume will take over Van Susterens 7 p.m. ET hour starting Tuesday.

Van Susteren was a vocal defender of Ailes when sexual harassment accusations were first leveledagainst the former Fox News chairman.

The settlement which will pay Carlson $20 million according to one person familiar with the terms of the deal was announced Tuesday in a statement from 21st Century Fox, which included a full apology.

21st Century Fox is pleased to announce that it has settled Gretchen Carlsons lawsuit, the company said in a statement. During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism. She developed a loyal audience and was a daily source of information for many Americans. We are proud that she was part of the Fox News team. We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve.

Carlson said in a statement:I am gratified that 21st Century Fox took decisive action after I filed my complaint. Im ready to move on to the next chapter of my life in which I will redouble my efforts to empower women in the workplace. I want to thank all the brave women who came forward to tell their own stories and the many people across the country who embraced and supported me in their #StandWithGretchen. All women deserve a dignified and respectful workplace in which talent, hard work and loyalty are recognized, revered and rewarded.

Since the allegations by Carlson became public she filed a suit in a New Jersey Superior Court on July 6 reports have emerged of other women who have worked with the executive in the past also saying that he sought sexual favors in return for employment opportunities. Ailes has denied those incidents as well.

Ailes resigned on July 21, leaving the influential news division he founded with a $40-million severance package. Ailes was also indemnified by the company for any damages from the lawsuit.

Attorneys for Carlson had said they had been contacted by as many as 20 women who said they were subjected to inappropriate behavior by Ailes.

Jesse Helt, the homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards in 2014, is selling the singer"s Moonman statue on eBay.

Cyrus asked Helt to accompany her to the ceremony in an effort to raise awareness for youth homelessness as part of her Happy Hippie Foundation. When she won the prestigious "Video of the Year" category for "Wrecking Ball," Helt accepted the award on her behalf and delivered a passionate speech.

He apparently held onto the award himself until now. The statuette recently appeared on eBay with a starting bid of $10,000. The description was brief: "In mint condition. Very rare one of a kind. No fingerprints." It"s engraved with with his own name as well as Cyrus".

TMZ reports that Helt is no longer homeless and lives in a Los Angeles studio apartment. It"s said that he wishes to raise money for a baby he has on the way.
