The Spooky Similarities Between Ryan Reynolds & Deadpool Are ...

Deadpool 2016 - Funny scenes where is Francis 1080p HD

Sometimes a role just seems to have been handcrafted for a particular celebrity and Deadpool (I"ve repressed the memory of the first time round) is undoubtedly Ryan Reynolds"s spirit animal. It"s common knowledge by now that the pair share the same wisecracking ways and blue sense of humor, but the ties that bound Ryan and the Merc with a Mouth together are even spookier than you ever thought possible.

Redditor Shutty delved into the mythology of Deadpool and found out some eerie parallels between Ryan Reynolds and the Marvel favorite which prove the pair are well and truly destined to be together.

So, without further ado let"s delve into the history of this messed up marriage made in comic book heaven and check out all the things that unite Reynold"s and Deadpool into one devastatingly potent unit.

Ryan Reynold"s And Deadpool Burst Onto The Scene Within A Breath Of Each Other

Deadpool made his first comic book appearance on February 1 1991 and Reynolds burst into the acting scene just two days later on February 3 1991. Literally Gobsmacked.

Need proof? Deadpool"s first jaunt into the spotlight was in "New Mutants #98" where he shared his debut with the mysterious Gideon. If you"re not being pedantic, this was also Domino"s first appearance, but it later turned out she was actually the shapeshifter Copycat.

Deadpool"s first appearance

Although it was seemingly insignificant at the time, a young Reynold"s first showed his face to the masses in the Canadian TV show Hillside in an episode entitled "Checking It Out." If you want a laugh, you can check out what I believe is the iconic episode (don"t hold me to it, I"m not an expert) below:

What a way to begin a bond that would last a lifetime.

Their Identities Are All About Amazing Alliteration

Everybody"s favorite Canadian"s full name is Ryan Rodney Reynolds and Deadpool"s citizen identity is Wade Winston Wilson. Coincidence, or a shared future written in the chimichanga sauce of destiny. You decide!

They"ve Both Been Divorced And Remarried

Deadpool found love with Gretchen Wilson, but their happy ending wasn"t meant to be and they shredded their wedded union at some point, although not much is known about the character.

All we know is that she took out a restraining order against Wade and vanished, apparently he was a teeny bit sad about it because he"s pictured looking mournfully at a picture of her, although we never see her again.

His second wife, of course, is none other than Shiklah who he married after heading off on an adventure together to find Dracula. As you do.

Deadpool and Shiklah"s wedding

Zooming back to real life, Ryan Reynolds himself has been married twice. His first spouse was fellow Marvel actor Scarlett Johansson, but the pair decided to part ways in 2010.

These days, Reynolds is defining #relationship goals with the gorgeous Blake Lively and the pair are expecting their second child together. One thing"s for sure, bet dad can"t wait to have another little life to mock on Twitter.

They Both Met Their Wives In A Comic Book Setting

Deadpool, of course, met his second wife in a Marvel comic book setting after the Merc with the Mouth stole Dracula"s prospective wife. After a few minor set-backs including Shiklah trying to suck out Deadpool"s life force, the pair tie the knot in NYC.

Back to the real world, and the parallels continue. Ryan Reynold"s met his beloved Blake Lively on the set of the ill-fated Green Lantern movie. Who said comic books aren"t romantic, eh?

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern"

See Also:

The Have Both Appeared in Marvel And DC Properties

As mentioned above, Ryan Reynolds was DC"s Green Lantern before he donned Deadpool"s iconic scarlet body stocking (again, we are going to chose to believe the Merc without a Mouth didn"t even exist...) and, believe it or not, the character Deadpool has also shown his face in the DC universe.

Although it isn"t exactly a show-stopping appearance, Deadpool shows up in the DC "Superman/Batman Annual #1" Although of course DC don"t go as far to explicitly admit it because Deadpool is a Marvel character. Duh.

Deadpool and Batman?!

To simplify the turn of events, Deathstroke dons his costume for the first time and resembles and acts like Deadpool and even makes a few references to him. Oh, and the issue also happened to be written by the famed Deadpool writer, Joe Kelly.

Deadpool Knew About Ryan Reynold"s Destiny Before He Did

In perhaps the spookiest link so far, the character Deadpool predicted Reynolds"s turn as the Marvel maverick in the cinematic universe.

All the way back in 2004, long before Ryan had been chosen to play Deadpool in X-Men Origins (2009), Deadpool described himself as looking like:

"Ryan Renolds crossed with a Shar-Pei"

Sure, the spelling might not be entirely correct (I mean, does Wade Wilson really seem like the sort of person who reads enough gossip mags to spell celeb names right?), but the comment is clearly directed toward none other than the Ryan Reynold"s we know and love.

Spooky, huh?

Were you surprised about all the spooky links between Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool?

Has anything really changed for Baylor football?

Baylor Bears vs Oklahoma State Cowboys NCAA Football Full Game 09/24/16

WACO, Texas -- Baylor returns to the football field tonight, but the fallout from the school"s mishandling of sexual assault allegations is far from over.

Coach Art Briles, university president Kenneth Starr and other key Baylor leaders are gone, dismissed or having resigned after an investigation found the school ignored or failed to investigate several sexual assault claims. And much more change is expected as the university focuses on reforming its Title IX efforts and implementing 105 recommendations from Pepper Hamilton, the Philadelphia law firm hired last fall to investigate the school"s handling of sexual assault complaints made by students.

Kendal Briles (right), Art"s son and Baylor"s offensive coordinator, is one of four Baylor assistants to be on the staff for Art Briles" entire Baylor tenure.Tony Gutierrez/AP Photo

That investigation reported widespread failures in the school"s Title IX process and raised concerns about the "tone and culture within Baylor"s football program."

And yet, as the Bears kick off the 2016 season Friday night against FCS foe Northwestern State, the football program looks a lot like it did before the disastrous offseason.

Though interim coach Jim Grobe will be pacing the sideline, the offense and defense will still be run by Briles" nine assistant coaches, two of whom are literally his family. His son, offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, and his son-in-law, running backs coach Jeff Lebby, remain on staff.

Two other coaches have worked with Briles every day since he took over the program in 2008.

Grobe, whose contract only runs through the end of this season, said he kept Briles" assistants because they weren"t accused of any wrongdoing in the Pepper Hamilton report.

"If you look at what happened at Baylor, we lost our president, our athletics director, our football coach and some operations people," Grobe said. "It was dealt with pretty harshly, I think, and why would they stop with the head coach if others did something wrong? Trust me, if I knew anybody else did anything wrong, they wouldn"t be here."

But now Briles" image has been removed from McLane Stadium, where he transformed a Big 12 doormat into a national championship contender. His influence and connections, however, cannot be escaped.

Just ask the new coach.

"Our coaches were very loyal for Art. Our players loved him," Grobe said. "He did great things here. And so going forward, I will never diminish anything that"s been done here in the past on the field."

But it"s what happened off the field that haunts Baylor and raises so many questions about its future. And its lingering connections to Briles keep returning.

Not long after his firing and contract settlement, Briles had a private luncheon for friends and family on July 13 at Torchy"s Tacos, a restaurant just a few blocks from Baylor"s campus. Current and former Baylor players attended, as did the assistant coaches.

Briles was mingling and dining with his former staff and starting quarterback less than a month after his attorneys accused the school of making him the scapegoat for its scandal. He"s still a co-defendant, with Baylor, in a federal civil lawsuit filed by a former Baylor student. Briles might have been paid $15 million to $20 million to go away, but his ties to the school still linger.

Grobe, who didn"t attend the lunch, didn"t object to the former coach meeting with players and coaches.

But still the question lingers:

Can Baylor"s culture change even if the key football leaders are mostly the same? The school"s interim president, David Garland, seems to believe so, saying the coaches are "honorable men" who would benefit from education and support through a better Title IX program.

When Grobe was hired, deputy athletic director Todd Patulski said: "I really relied on our Board of Regents and the report they provided. Ultimately, the directive was to create stability within our coaches and keep them."

Jim Grobe has said he was given powers to make staff changes but has retained all of the former staff.Rod Aydelotte/Waco Tribune-Herald via AP

That"s not what most observers will be watching when Baylor"s season kicks off, with an expectation that a talented roster will again roll up points and wins all fall.

Alison Kiss, executive director of the Clery Center for Security on Campus, whose mission is to work with college communities to create safer campuses through advocacy, education and collaboration, said she believes restoring campus safety and repairing trust in the university begin with transparency, which includes releasing the full Pepper Hamilton report.

"If you"re going to build the trust within your community and your students -- all of your students -- is to be transparent about it," Kiss said. "Until that"s released, there"s going to be a lot of speculation. There"s value in doing that. You"re certainly airing out your dirty laundry, but if you"re ever going to change, the one thing we hear from students across the country is they want transparency and fairness. If you"re going to build that trust, there"s got to be transparency."

For Garland it is simpler. It"s about the university understanding the priorities need to be changed, even at the expense of football success.

"I don"t think there"s any balance," Garland told the Waco Tribune in July. If you have sexual assaults, it"s unacceptable. I don"t care if we go 0-12 -- we cannot have sexual assaults."

Baylor"s season begins today, but these bigger questions remain: Do the school and football program understand the magnitude of the problem? And is the entire Baylor community committed to changing the culture?

The Pick-6: How Stanford football is recruiting Mormons, plus more stories from around the web

Stanford-Washington football game preview

Matt Piper did a story on Stanford assistant Lance Anderson (who was considered an outside candidate for BYUs opening last winter) who acts as the teams chief recruiter in Utah. But this story takes a dive from the Cardinal perspective, noting that it wasnt long ago when Stanford was not welcome ground for Mormons:

The fact that a Mormon conversion took place on a secular college campus in the middle of Silicon Valley might seem surprising. There was a time in 1970 when Stanford refused to schedule games against BYU in protest of what some considered the universitys institutional racism. Today, the Cardinal football team has three returned missionaries on its roster, with another four set to join by 2018.

The story describes Fanaika, who is the younger brother of former Ute Jason Fanaika, converting one of his teammates to the LDS faith, among a handful of anecdotes. Utah, BYU and Utah State have plenty of competition for LDS players.

Some other links of note:

SB Nation blog Every Day Should Be Saturday is farcical by its nature, but Spencer Hall is one of the most entertaining perspectives in college sport. He ranked Utah No. 10 in his entirely subjective rankings, writing: "The Utes did everything you hope a team does when it plays without a shred of fear for how silly they might look, i.e., you winging plays down the field in Madden with reckless abandon."

For those scouting to the next game, the San Jose Mercury News Jon Wilner had some takeaways from Cals 51-41 loss at Arizona State. He highlights, for one, that the Golden Bears allowed a whopping 41 points in the second half, wearing down over the course of the game.

The Oregonian was on hand for Oregons 41-38 loss to Colorado at home, which columnist John Canzano writes should be a wakeup call for Mark Helfrich and the program. Canzano wrote of Helfrich: "I appreciated that he was finally feeling what we can all plainly see Oregon is in trouble."

Elsewhere in college football, LSU made waves by firing coach Les Miles, who almost certainly will come into play in the offseason coaching carousel. But Sports Illustrated broke down why, after narrowly dodging the axe last year, Miles was back on the chopping block after only four games: "He had been handed a chance to make the necessary changes to make LSU competitive in the SEC West, and he hadn"t taken advantage of that chance."

APROPOS OF NOTHING Two deaths rocked the sports world on Sunday, and with all due respect to Arnold Palmer, one of them was still in the prime of his career when he was tragically cut down in a boating accident.

Major League Baseball is in mourning for one of its bright, rising stars Jose Fernandez. A number of outlets had extremely moving coverage of the 24-year-olds death and the ripple that was felt throughout locker rooms around the country, but this column by Yahoo!s Jeff Passan really strikes a powerful note, particularly when talking about his harrowing passage from Cuba:

Fernandez tried and failed to defect three times. On the fourth, when he was 15, he awoke one night to the sounds of thrashing in the water. A woman had fallen off the boat. He didnt know who. He dove in anyway. It turned out to be Fernandezs mom, Maritza. He swam out into the waves and told her to hold on. For an eternity, he dragged himself and his mother through crashing waves, through fatigue and the fetid taste of salt water and the ocean that wanted to take both of them, and made it back to the boat. A few days later, they were in Mexico. On April 5, 2008, they arrived in Tampa. All they wanted was a better life.

For all his talent, all his achievement, Fernandez never lost perspective on what allowed him to thrive. He loved freedom love the ability to say what he believed, to think what he wanted, to live without restriction. When he became an American citizen in 2015, seven years after coming to the United States, he waved a small flag and talked about how thankful he was. When he and the Marlins played at Fort Bragg Fourth of July weekend, the moment consumed him. Hed never forget Cuba. But he was a proud American.

Its harrowing, then, to see the country Jose Fernandez loved and embodied so well keep talking about building walls, about keeping people like him out, because of fear and insecurity. Fernandez gave back far more than he ever took, and he wasnt even here a decade.

Zogby: Trump"s Twitter Rant Wasn"t Necessary

Trump"s Early AM Twitter Tirade Highlights Dislike for Sleep

Donald Trump"s early-morning Twitter rant Friday about a former Miss Universe winner was essentially pointless and has nothing to do with the presidential election, pollster John Zogby told Newsmax TV.

During an interview on "Newsmax Prime," Zogby told host J.D. Hayworth Trump"s decision to go off on Alicia Machado wasn"t the smartest one.

"It"s certainly not going to help him and this is all diversionary. What does this have to do with being president of the United States?" Zogby said. "I don"t know that anybody emerges really a winner in any of this, let alone the American people, who deserve maybe at least somewhat of a higher plane in terms of discussion. Now we"re getting into Venezuelan s*x tapes? Oh my G*d."

See J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax TV: Tune in beginning at 8 PM EDT to "Newsmax Prime" on FiOS 115, YouTube Livestream, Newsmax TV App from any smartphone, NewsmaxTV.com, Roku, Amazon Fire More Systems Here

Trump called Machado "disgusting" and alleged she made a s*x tape in her native Venezuela. He also insinuated that Hillary Clinton"s campaign had something to do with helping her become a U.S. citizen earlier this year.

Zogby also gave some insight to the presidential polling, with the election about five and a half weeks away.

"I go back to forever and let"s go back to 2000 anyway," Zogby said. "I saw leads change back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. In fact, they did in every election since 2000 and up to about this point in time in September of 2008 as well, and then Barack Obama kind of sealed it.

"So let"s not make too much of a bump here and a bump there in either direction."

According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, Clinton leads Trump by 3.1 points.

BYU football: Tom Holmoe talks scheduling, importance of game with Big 12"s WVU

Football: BYU Highlights | 9/24/16

Why does Holmoe seek out these kinds of games?

" When these opportunities come up, you like to play in these big games," he said, noting that they usually take years of negotiating and shuffling other schedules to get set up. "We are not the anchor team in those games, which works for us [because BYU is not close to an NFL stadium]. Anchor teams have been Mizzou, Oklahoma, West Virginia. Tthey have more responsibility a greater opportunity to make money and a greater opportunity to lose money. It is really good financially for us, because we help benefit the game and they have been good for our fans. Plus, those games are really good games."

LSU will be the anchor team in next year"s opener an NRG Stadium in Houston (home of the Houston Texans). BYU will play UMass at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., in 2018, but that will be considered a UMass home game because the Minutemen play most of their home games in that stadium.

Coincidentally, UMass hosts Mississippi State at Gillette today in a matchup of teams that will visit LaVell Edwards Stadium later this season.

I asked Holmoe if any other NFL stadiums are on his wish list.

"No, not really," he said.

He acknowledged that the game scheduled against Arizona in Las Vegas in 2021 could possibly be played at the new stadium proposed by Vegas officials.

"It is a possibility, but they"ve been talking about a new stadium for a long, long time. So really, we just know that Vegas has been a great venue for us. That stadium [Sam Boyd Stadium] has been great for our fans. It is a great location for California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah [fans]. It was an opportunity to play Arizona another time, and good for both of our team. It makes sense."

Holmoe acknowledged that scheduling announcements have slowed down the past few months, mostly because he"s filled most of the spots in 2017 and 2018.

"You know, early on, we had to fill a lot of spots," he said. "That"s why we announced so many games. We were starting with a clean slate. Now, we have filled a lot of games. We have games scheduled through 2023, even through 2026, a few. We are not full by any means, but with what is going on with our scheduling now, it is probably good to take a little pause. We have games scheduled through the next couple of years, solidly, so I am not concerned about the next couple of years, but as an independent, you have to go out pretty far."

Holmoe said the series with Virginia is still on, despite former BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall"s statements when he departed BYU that he doesn"t want to ever have to play the Cougars as Virginia"s coach.

"I can understand him saying that. It was right at the time of his departure. But those games, that series, is out there a little bit. It will be good when the time comes," Holmoe said.

Stanford football: Christian McCaffrey doesn"t disappoint in season opener

Washington football"s Jake Browning on beating Stanford: "Our overall performance is jaw-dropping"

PALO ALTO The obvious takeaway from Friday nights season opener at Stanford Stadium is that Heisman Trophy contender Christian McCaffrey is more than capable of living up to the hype.

The 6-foot, 200-pound running back began his junior campaign with 126 yards on 22 carries and a pair of touchdowns, including the knockout punch with 2:12 left a 41-yard scamper out of a jumbo formation to cap the scoring in a 26-13 victory over visiting Kansas State.

That last play, especially, I was just sitting there in awe, of course, Stanford quarterback Ryan Burns said. Hes a heck of a player, heck of a guy, heck of a leader. Came up to me during the game and just gave me some words, a great guy to be around.

McCaffrey also led the No. 8 Cardinal with seven catches and amassed 210 all-purpose yards. But it was nearly much more, considering a 97-yard punt return to the house that wouldve broken a school record set in 1986 was negated because of a block in the back.

The ridiculous play in which he spun out a wave of would-be tacklers and slithered his way to the end zone drew both praise and second guessing.

You know, Chris is not above criticism, Shaw said. There is a reason why there are no 97-yard punt returns, because you should not catch the ball on the 3-yard line. He knows that. But its hard. Sometimes the ball gets high and you think, Oh, my gosh, I have a chance to do it now. But what he did after he caught it, Wow! Thats the best punt return that doesnt count Ive ever seen. But hes a special young man, and sometimes theyre so special that they override their own mistakes.

So well try not to catch those anymore. But if you do catch those, make seven guys miss and score a touchdown.

Pinned at its own 2-yard line after the penalty, the Cardinal embarked on a 10-play, 98-yard drive that culminated with a 40-yard touchdown off play action into the waiting arms of wide receiver Michael Rector, a fifth-year senior who finished with four catches for 73 yards.

That was the highlight of a first half in which Burns went 9 of 9 for 124 yards in his debut as the successor to Kevin Hogan, the winningest quarterback in program history.

I think he did awesome, McCaffrey said. I think he handled himself great. He made some awesome reads and made some awesome checks, but we expect that out of him.

So, was the redshirt junior nervous before taking the first snap?

It was kind of weird, said Burns, who extended separate drives four times with third-down completions in the first quarter. It still hadnt hit me when I was on the field. The first few plays though, I got a little grass in my pants and started walking. But it was almost like an out-of-body experience. But I got used to it pretty quick. It was cool, though.

True to his word, Shaw inserted backup Keller Chryst in the second quarter for limited duty. The Palo Alto High graduate completed his first and only attempt, an 11-yard hookup with McCaffrey.

But the more memorable play came after a handoff on the same drive, as McCaffrey cut through the gut of the defense, stopped on a dime and sprinted out wide for a 35-yard touchdown to make it 17-0 with 7:47 left in the half.

Paving the way was Chryst, who pushed a defensive back to the ground to allow McCaffrey a clear path into the end zone.

Keller has put out more pancake blocks for me than I think anyone no offense to (fullback Daniel) Marx, McCaffrey said with a laugh. No, thats not true. But anytime youve got a quarterback running down the field trying to pancake people, you know youve got a special team and a special bond. So hes an unbelievable guy that comes to work every day with his hard hat on ready to get after it.

McCaffrey and Burns were trending on Twitter during the first half, but after going into the locker room up 17-3, the offense sputtered.

Before the game-clinching TD by McCaffrey, the offense had amassed just 30 yards in the second half, including an atrocious third quarter in which Stanford managed only six snaps for 11 yards and botched a handoff on a read-option play. The fumble was almost returned to pay dirt by the Wildcats.

Not clean, not pretty in the second half, Shaw said. But we played hard and we showed heart at the end.

Burns added: Personally, I think we slowed down a little too much, got too comfortable.

The struggles to move the ball forced Shaw to call an audible and deviate from the game plan, as he kept Chryst on the bench during the third and fourth quarters.

h**l continue to get worked in, but the second half turned in a way we didnt anticipate, Shaw said. Wanted him to get in that series in the third quarter, but we sputtered so much, I didnt want to throw a new quarterback into the mix there. But h**l continue to play. h**l play again against USC and h**l continue to play as long as we see prudent.

On the bright side, Kansas State was unable to capitalize on the Cardinals inability to run out the clock. It helped that Stanford won the turnover battle after safety Dallas Lloyd and cornerback Quenton Meeks both came down with interceptions, the former playing center field on a woefully underthrown pass and Meeks spying into the backfield for his pick.

The guy ran a double move from the slot, which you really dont see very often, Meeks said. But I was in great position, so as soon as he made his second move I just looked to the quarterback immediately. When a guy runs a double move, you just expect the ball to come out and it did. And when the ball is in the air, I have the mentality of a receiver, Its mine.

A big factor for the secondarys ballhawking tendencies was the effort of the front seven.

Late in the fourth quarter, the game turned into a party in the backfield, with defensive tackle Jordan Watkins recording his second sack for a safety and outside linebacker Peter Kalambayi ending the last gasp with another QB takedown with 36 seconds left, leaving him with team-high 2 sacks for the game.

Depth in the trenches and linebacker core played a key role for Stanford, which racked up eight sacks.

It allows you to get some hits on the quarterback late in the game because your guys are fresher, Shaw said. We saw Solomon Thomas running in the fourth quarter after the quarterback full speed. He can only do that if we rest him and work the other guys in. Same thing with the outside linebackers. Peter Kalambayi has enough speed left to finish and get a sack.

As far as special teams, kicker Conrad Ukropina booted a 50-yard field goal to make it 3-0 after the opening drive.

Punter Jake Bailey had quite the night, with three punts in the second half that pinned Kansas State inside its own 10-yard line including back-to-back kicks that were downed at the 1- and 2-yard line by wide receiver Trenton Irwin, the latter resulting in the safety that made it 19-7 with 4:11 left.

But the Wildcats kept things interesting by recovering the ensuing onside kick, then executing a 15-yard fade on fourth down to get within 19-13.

Clearly, Shaw was frustrated by the mental error on the first onside attempt.

Theyre down by two scores and its after the safety, they cant afford to kick it deep, Shaw said. We knew it was going to come short. We didnt put the hands team out there because we didnt think we needed to put the hands team out there. But we were not aggressive to the football.

No such mistake the second time around, as a Kansas State player touched the ball before it went 10 yards, then McCaffrey put the game out of reach.

Next up is a bye week, before Pac-12 action begins Sept. 17 by hosting No. 20 USC.

The only thing we can do now is look in the windshield and focus on the mistakes and learn from our mistakes and getting better from there, McCaffrey said.
