AROUND THE WEB:

Dolphins running back Arian Foster announced his immediate retirement Monday after eight years in the NFL.

Foster, 30, only played four games this season due to hamstring issues. His history of injuries likely is a factor in his decision to retire midseason.

Digital media company UNINTERRUPTED tweeted this message from Foster on Monday night:

The sudden announcement was a shock for some.

It was pretty surprising, said Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, a longtime teammate of Fosters. Obviously, I think the world of him as a football player. Its not easy to see guys step away from the sport.

Texans tackle Duane Brown also didnt see this coming.

Thats a good friend of mine. Wow, I didnt know that, Brown said. Hats off to him, salute to him. He had a heck of a career, and Im honored to be able to share the field with him and be able to contribute to some of his success and have him contribute to some of my success.

Foster played for the University of Tennessee and was signed by the Texans in 2009 as an undrafted free agent.

Jets coach Todd Bowles responded on Monday to Ryan Fitzpatricks postgame comments on Sunday.

After Fitzpatrick said the team ownership and coaching staff has stopped believing in him, Bowles said it doesnt bother him at all.

If p****d off is going to stop the turnovers, Im more than happy to have him play p****d off, Bowles said.

Fitzpatrick replaced starting quarterback Geno Smith on Sunday after Smith reportedly tore his ACL and had to leave the game.

Fitzpatrick was benched after Week 6s 28-3 loss to the Cardinals in favor of Smith.

Noah Syndergaard can add sitcom star to his impressive resume.

The Mets pitcher will appear in Kevin Nealons CBS show Kevin Can Wait next Monday, reportedly playing the role of Thor.

James and his character in the show are both Mets fans. Syndergaard announced his cameo in this tweet:

BIRTHDAY OF THE DAY:Happy 45th, Pedro Martinez!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:There are certain parts of the year where things are going better than they did in another part. If theyre not going good, then you do something to try and change that course. Bill Belichick, on Dale & Holley with Thornton on Monday expressing his support for Stephen Gostkowski, who has missed three extra points in his last seven games

THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY:The Red Sox beat the Rockies, 2-1, in Game 2 of the 2007 World Series. Curt Schilling struck out four and got the win in his final appearance in the majors.

1960s pop singer Bobby Vee dies at 73

1960s pop singer Bobby Vee dies at 73

MINNEAPOLIS

Pop idol Bobby Vee, the boyish, grinning 1960s singer whose career was born when he took a Midwestern stage as a teenager to fill in after the 1959 plane crash that killed rock n roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. The Big Bopper Richardson, has died. He was 73.

Vee, whose hits included the chart-topping Take Good Care of My Baby and who helped a young Bob Dylan get his start, died Monday of advanced Alzheimers disease, said his son, Jeff Velline. Vee was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 2011, and performed his last show that year.

Screaming fans prompt Bieber to leave stage

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND

It seems even Justin Bieber finds his screaming fans irritating.

The pop star walked off the stage during his show in Manchester, England, on Sunday after some fans ignored his request to stop screaming as he was trying to talk to the crowd between songs.

Bieber told the crowd that he wanted to be able to say something, and the screaming had to stop. When the screaming continued, a frustrated Bieber dropped the microphone as he left the stage.

The singer returned several moments later and told the crowd hed stop talking and just do his musical set, because, he said, Manchester just cant handle it.

Scottie Pippen and wife Larsa Pippen are calling it quits.

The 51-year-old former NBA star filed for divorce from Larsa on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Florida, ET can confirm. The two have been married since 1997 and have four children together -- Sophia, Justin, Preston, and Scottie Jr. The Hall of Famer also has three children from previous relationships.

"After careful consideration and 19 years together, Larsa and Scottie have each filed for dissolution of their marriage," Larsa"s rep tells ET. "Although they are no longer to be married, Larsa remains hopeful that she and Scottie will always do what is best for their four beautiful children and jointly raise them with love and respect. She would like to thank everyone for their understanding and kindly ask for privacy from the media during this difficult time of transition for her family."

The split is surprising given they were last seen together just last month at a New York City Fashion Week event, walking the red carpet with daughter Sophia.

They also appeared to happily celebrate their anniversary earlier this year.

"Happy anniversary baby!!" Larsa, 42, Instagrammed alongside a pic of the two embracing. "Loved you from day one."

Larsa, a former Real Housewives of Miami cast member, is also a super close friend of the Kardashian family. The mother of four often appears on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, was at Khloe Kardashian"s 32nd birthday party in June, and vacationed with Kourtney Kardashian in the Bahamas in July.

Larsa has made no mention of the split on social media, posting this selfie on Thursday.

Four-time Pro Bowl RB Arian Foster announces retirement from NFL

Arian Foster Mic"d Up for Clash with Dolphins (2012) | NFL

BOX SCORE

DENVER --The Denver Broncos ruined Brock Osweiler"s homecoming Monday night, incessantly hurrying, hitting and harassing their former teammate in a 27-9 win over his Houston Texans.

Coach Gary Kubiak returned to the sideline following his second health scare in three years, and he had to like what he saw as the Broncos (5-2) snapped a two-game skid in sending the overwhelmed Texans home at 4-3.

C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker energized Denver"s sputtering ground game, both running for a touchdown. Anderson gained 107 yards on 16 carries and Booker had 83 on 17 hand-offs.

But the big story was Trevor Siemian, Peyton Manning"s surprise successor, outplaying Osweiler, who was groomed to be Denver"s next QB but instead bolted to Houston in free agency.

Osweiler left for bigger numbers in Texas - both in his bank account and his stat sheet - but he spent this night quickly getting rid of the ball, constantly overthrowing DeAndre Hopkins in double coverage and otherwise running for his life from Von Miller & Co.

Although he avoided sacks, Osweiler was just 22 for 41 for 131 yards with no TDs and no interceptions. Siemian was 14 of 25 for 157 yards, a TD and no interceptions.

Osweiler"s fumble at his own 25-yard line was scooped up by Chris Harris Jr. on the first play of the fourth quarter. That led to Brandon McManus" chip-shot field goal that made it 24-9 and snuffed out Houston"s hopes of a comeback.

Anderson scored on a 7-yard run and Siemian hit Demaryius Thomas from 4 yards out as the Broncos took a 14-6 halftime lead.

Osweiler took a couple of big shots from safeties Darian Stewart and T.J. Ward in the first quarter but the Texans led 6-0 on a pair of 43-yard field goals by Nick Novak.

Novak"s 29-yarder made it 14-9, but Stewart punched the ball from running back Alfred Blue"s grasp and linebacker Todd Davis plucked it out of the air. That led to Booker"s 1-yard TD run.

Kubiak missed Denver"s last game when doctors ordered him to take a week off after he was transported via ambulance to the hospital following Denver"s last home game, on Oct. 9, with a complex migraine condition, which can mimic a stroke. Kubiak had a mini-stroke in 2013 while coaching the Texans.

Like Osweiler, this was his first game against his former team.

STREAK BREAKER: Denver"s dazzling defense is a real dawdler , having allowed scores on five of six opening drives coming into the game. That didn"t stop them from deferring when they won the toss. The Texans went three and out on their first two possessions, the first time all season the Broncos hadn"t allowed points on their first two defensive series.

OH NO, OKUNG: Broncos left tackle Russell Okung cleared concussion protocol to make the start. But he was rusty a week after his pair of penalties resulted in a nullified touchdown and a safety in a 21-13 loss at San Diego. This time, he was whistled for a pair of holds that negated a nifty first-down run by Booker and a 28-yard grab by Thomas.

INJURIES: Texans right tackle Derek Newton was carted off the field with what looked like serious injuries to both knees in the first half. He crumpled to the grass while blocking Miller. Newton was dropping back to pass block midway through the first quarter when his left knee buckled first and then his right knee gave way. For Denver, linebackers Brandon Marshall (leg) and Dekoda Watson (head) left in the second half.

RING OF FAME: The Broncos honored former safety John Lynch, linebacker Simon Fletcher and kicker Jason Elam by inducting them into their Ring of Fame during halftime ceremonies. Lynch, who played in Denver from 2004-07 after 11 seasons in Tampa Bay, will be inducted into the Buccaneers" Ring of Honor next month.

Arian Foster: the national anthem is a racist song

Arian Foster Reflects on NFL Start by Reading Poetry | NFL Films

This segment originally aired Oct. 17, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt again yesterday as the national anthem played before his team faced off against theTampa Bay Buccaneers, continuing hisprotest against injustices toward minorities and inspiring others to follow.

MiamiDolphins running back Arian Foster began kneeling during the pregame anthem on Sept.11 and has beena vocal supporter of Kaepernick ever since. I dont even think the song should be our national anthem, because its a racist song, if you look at the other verses of it, he toldVICE News correspondentJay Caspian Kang.

Even some high school football players have participated in the protest. I think its a beautiful thing,Foster said.

The movementshows no signs of slowing down, as similar protests have recently been made by cheerleaders, marching bands, and basketball teams. What would have to happen for me to stand for the national anthem? Foster asked himself. Honestly, man, Im not sure I will stand again.

What I Really Told Project Veritas"s So-Called Reporters

George Stephanopoulos and Eric Trump Discuss Project Veritas Action Videos

Student protesters dressed in cap and gown at a Dream Act protest in Tijuana, Mexico. (Reuters / Sandy Huffake)

By now James OKeefes heavily edited video alleging to show Democratic operatives planning voter fraud has orbited around the social-media universe. I am one of the people in the film and, like many viewers who have common sense, I found it less of an investigative report and more of a soap-opera drama.Ad Policy

To set the record straight: I am not an operative for the Democratic Party. I did not agree that I would drive a busload of people to commit voter fraud, nor did I agree that I would help anyone commit voter fraud. I met with the group only once, for less than an hourcontrary to their claim that this was a year-long operation.

Like previous OKeefe videos, this one presents heavily edited footage to distort reality and create a narrative that serves the goals of Donald Trump and his supporters. Indeed, a recent report shows the Trump Foundation donating thousands of dollars to Project Veritas, the organization behind the videos.Related Articles

In real life, I was explaining what the outcome of the presidential election will mean for the future of voter-ID laws, which have prevented thousands of Americans from voting; the role of civil disobedience in politics; and the role of activists in planning those protests.

I find it amusing to learn that the people who were interviewing me were fake representatives of an invented donor who supposedly wanted to give money to the immigrant-rights movement. Pretty clever.

During our short conversation, I explained a few times the effective work that my organization, the DREAM Action Coalition, has done and that has been covered by the medianamely, our successful tactic of having people who are directly affected by a broken immigration system confront elected leaders, to obtain answers to the issues that matter to the country.

I myself have confronted Republican and Democratic presidential candidates to get answers that matter to my family; I have even been arrested while speaking out against anti-immigrant politicians.

Throughout the conversation, the two conservative operatives said that their fake donor wanted to go beyond this kind of activism and help people vote twice, as a way to enfranchise those who cant vote. Several times, I informed them that voting twice is illegal, but I told them we could go another route to give people who dont have a vote a voice in the election.

In light of Tea Party efforts around the country to make it harder for minorities to vote, I told them, their donor could immediately support a campaign that would elevate the voices of American citizens who want to commit their vote on behalf of their undocumented loved ones. Another option was to support initiatives like the NYC ID program, which allows anyone, regardless of immigration status, to obtain a much-needed identification card and thus gain more access to civil society. Despite these options, the operatives were pushy in their donors desire to help people to vote twice all over the country.

I assured them my confidence and allowed them to talk about their schemes as a way to humor a potential supporter. Needless to say, never would I have participated in any voter-fraud scheme. The unedited video tells the complete story.

LIKE THIS? GET MORE OF OUR BEST REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

While OKeefes tactics are sloppy and distastefulnot to mention possible grounds for defamationwhat is clear is that OKeefe is, like any activist, battling it out for political relevance. Indeed, we have organized daring actions where we have sneaked into hotel fundraisers, sometimes disguised as waiters or passionate groupies, in order to gain access to a politician.

American history is filled with stories in which activists organized campaigns with elements of theatrics to rally the people into action. Take, for example, the Boston Tea Party. On the night of December 16, 1773, the Sons of Liberty, disguised as Native Americans, boarded three ships in the Boston harbor and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. This pushed a reluctant public closer to war and independence from the British Crown.

During the 1960s, young African-American students at a segregated Woolworths lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, sparked a carefully planned sit-in movement that soon spread to college towns throughout the country. Though many of the protesters were arrested for trespassing, disorderly conduct, or disturbing the peace, their actions made an immediate and lasting impact, forcing establishments to change their segregationist policies.

I certainly dont hold grudges against OKeefe or the operatives, because what these videos demonstrate is the ever-present gladiatorial nature of American politics. He is an activist of the far right who is serving, albeit with deception and lies, the interest of his conservative, mostly white constituency.

The videos got their media hits and successfully deluged my social-media accounts with hate messages, death threats, and even a funny remark that, in addition to being guilty of voter fraud, I would next claim that Donald Trump fondled me. However, this political gladiator is still standing, and I am ready for the next battle on behalf of my family and my community.
