Stephen Hawking gives the world 1000 more years to support humans

Stephen Hawking: We Might Have 1,000 Years Left On Earth - IGN News

One of the world"s most famous scientists, Stephen Hawking, says our planet has an expiration date . Don"t freak out too much, though. It"s probably not going to affect you. Hawking said in a lecture at Oxford University he doubts humanity will last for another 1,000 years unless we can move on and inhabit Mars or another planet. SEE MORE: Scientists Really Want To Smash A Spacecraft Into An Asteroid The famed physicist said dwindling resources on our big blue planet mean we humans will eventually have to find another home. Hawking added that threats like nuclear war, climate change or artificial intelligence run amok a la "Terminator" could make humanity"s time on Earth even shorter. Fortunately, NASA"s been scanning the stars for a suitable replacement planet, and it"s found a few thousand potential candidates beyond our solar system. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper not sticking around to serve in Trump administration

US intelligence director James Clapper resigns

Martin Mattshakreports:

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said today that he turned in his letter of resignation to President Barack Obama the night before and will not stay on through the presidential transition.

Clapper made the revelation during his opening statement in a rare open hearing of the House Intelligence Committee after the panel"s ranking Democrat, Adam Schiff, said he had heard rumors that the spy chief who took on the role in 2010 might stay on into the Trump administration.

So, guys we cant stand are resigning so that guys who scare the s**t out of us can take over.

Clapper recently was interviewed byWired:

Rather than worry whether his spies have gone too far, Clapper worries that leaders in Washington are ill-equipped to tackle the multiplying, metastasizing set of threats that face America. His annual appearances on Capitol Hillfilled with discussions about ISIS, cyberwar, North Koreas nuclear program, and new Russian and Chinese aggressionhave been so routinely pessimistic that he refers to his yearly global threat assessment as the Litany of Doom. Unpredictable instability has been a constant for this administration and will be, he says, for the next one too.

But in mere weeks, when a new presidential administration takes office, all those issues will be someone elses problem. For Clapper, the transition cant come soon enough. He has spent much of this year literally counting down the days he has left. Some mornings, when he briefs the commander in chief, known as Intelligence Customer Number One, President Barack Obama will ask him what the current tally is and then offer Clapper a fist bump.

See Metallica"s Tribute to Lemmy Kilmister in "Murder One" Video Animation follows Lemmy from Liverpool until he ...

Metallica: Spit Out the Bone (Official Music Video)

Metallica titled "Murder One" in honor of late Motrhead rocker Lemmy Kilmister. "Murder One" was Lemmy"s nickname for his amp, and several Motrhead song titles also appear in the lyrics. The band enlisted animator Robert Valley (Gorillaz,Tron: Uprising series) to illustrate the clip. The video sets up Lemmy as the iconic rocker, an independent spirit steeped in the genre"s history.

The clip opens in 1975. "The members of the band Hawkwind drive off, leaving Lemmy stranded at the Canadian border. In Lemmy"s own words, he wasn"t kicked out for doing drugs, but for doing the wrong kind of drugs." Soon the action rewinds to Liverpool in 1962, "the birthplace of rock and roll." It follows Lemmy as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and then getting dumped from his band Hawkwind, a crucial point that leads him to form his own group.

That group, Motrhead, was an important inspiration for Metallica. James Hetfield spoke about his admiration for Lemmy in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year. "He helped us a lot. He was unafraid. And he was a character. And he was himself He did his own thing to the last breath. No matter who you are, how could you not be inspired by that?"

Metallica released music videos for each track from their upcoming LP, Hardwired to Self-Destruct, starting Wednesday afternoon. The album, Metallica"s 10th, is out November 18th. The band will mark the release with a "Blackened Friday" event a twist on Record Store Day"s Black Friday at hundreds of independent record stores across the U.S. Fans participating in the midnight sale will be eligible to win items like limited edition vinyl slip mats and posters; the grand prize winner will receive the new album in a variety of formats, including the deluxe box set and a test pressing of the record.

In August, drummer Lars Ulrich spoke to Rolling Stone about Hardwired, detailing the album"s "simpler" songs. "We introduce a mood and we stick to it, rather than songs we"ve done where one riff happens and we go over here and then over there and it becomes a journey through all these different soundscapes," he said. "The songs are more linear. And by "less frenetic," I mean there are certainly less starts and stops in the songs. It cruises along a little bit more than the last record."

When Trump Went to 21 Club for a Burger, I Sat at the Next Table ...

21 Club"s Famous Secret Wine Cellar

As I was finishing a cheeseburger at Manhattans 21 Club last night, I saw my colleagues eyes suddenly fixated over my shoulder. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner had taken seats at a table right behind me.

When Donald Trump entered shortly thereafter, the room was abuzz. Some people stood up, some applauded, though it wasnt universal. But, unlike the daily protests outside Trump Tower, there was no outward hostility from the patrons. He appeared at ease, making his way around the room, shaking hands with those who offered, before finding his table.

He sat down between his wife Melania and daughter Tiffany. One of my dinner companions identified us as journalists from Bloomberg News. Now, we had been there for a couple hours at that point and were disconnected from the news. We soon discovered that Trumps campaign had said he was in for the night and hadnt notified the press corps he had left Trump Tower. A colleagues tweet that erroneously said we were at another restaurant -- Keens, not 21 Club -- inadvertently sent others in the press into a frenzy.

Twitter: Taylor Riggs on Twitter

The Trumps werent particularly loud during their meal, perhaps wary of being overheard from their place in the center of the room. I caught whiffs of analysis about their 60 Minutes interview on Sunday and vague references to a woman who would make a great press secretary. The Secret Service had a presence but wasnt suffocating.

The president-elect got a burger with fries and a drink that a colleague thought was a virgin b****y Mary. (He doesnt drink alcohol.) So, technically, it wasnt a steak dinner. At $36, though, the burgers among the citys most expensive.

Twitter: Brian Chappatta on Twitter

Im not exactly a regular at 21 Club but my first editor at Bloomberg News has a tradition of taking me and three other reporters out to a fancy dinner once a year.

When our meal ended, we wandered over to the front bar room. An hour later, people lined up to see Trump and his family exit.(An NBC video would show him saying well get your taxes down as he made his way out.) Only one or two people among the dozens clapped. Many of the others were frantically snapping pictures with their smartphones. One man nearby shouted Thank you, Donald.

Twitter: Bradd Jaffy on Twitter

Minutes later, perhaps even on the short ride home, he was back on Twitter.

Very organized process taking place as I decide on Cabinet and many other positions. I am the only one who knows who the finalists are!

Before it"s here, it"s on the Bloomberg Terminal. LEARN MORE

Sorting through options for Cowboys, Tony Romo

Skip Bayless says not to write off Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys QB yet | UNDISPUTED

FRISCO, Texas -- For the purposes of this conversation, let"s assume quarterback Dak Prescott starts the remainder of the season, performs well and the Dallas Cowboys make a playoff run -- if not finish with a Super Bowl victory.

What happens to former starter Tony Romo in 2017?

Romo is signed through 2019 and has base salaries of $14.5 million, $19.5 million and $20.5 million remaining on his deal with cap figures of $24.7 million, $25.2 million and $23.7 million.

Here is a look at the options:

Same as it ever was: The Cowboys don"t have to do anything. Prescott"s rookie contract helps them absorb Romo"s cap figure in 2017, even if they want him as a backup. But that is not really practical, considering the decisions the Cowboys will have to make in terms of trying to sign Zack Martin to perhaps the largest contract in the NFL for a guard, keep Ronald Leary or add pieces to the defense in the offseason.

The Cowboys could ask Romo to take a paycut, but they should have too much respect for Romo to do that. They did not make an offer to DeMarcus Ware two years ago before releasing him for fear of insulting him and his legacy. They wouldn"t do that to Romo, either.

Splitting up: Considering all of the photo alterations going on, the biggest assumption is that Romo will be in another jersey in 2017.

If the Cowboys simply release Romo once the season ends, they would save $5.1 million in 2017 cap space but he would still count $19.6 million against the cap. That"s a lot of dead money, but the Cowboys might believe ripping the Band-Aid off in one motion is the best way to handle their cap.

The Cowboys could save more cap room by designating him a post-June 1 cut, which would save them $14 million in 2017. He would count $10.7 million against the cap in 2017 and $8.9 million against the cap in 2018. The cap credit, however, does not come until June 1, 2017, so they would not see the benefit of the extra space in free agency. Some of that money could go to signing their draft picks next year and be carried over to the 2018 cap for extra space.

Reworking for a win/win: Based on Romo"s talk Tuesday, there is no doubt he wants to continue to play. It would have to be the right situation. Sorry, Cleveland, he would not go to the Browns. He would be interested in winning a Super Bowl with a team ready to contend.

The Cowboys could trade him anywhere they want, but Romo would ultimately hold the final decision. He could simply say he is retiring, which would void a trade to a place he doesn"t want to go. Considering the close relationship Romo and owner and general manager Jerry Jones have, the Cowboys would not deal Romo to just any team. They should ask him which teams he would be amenable to playing and go from there.

Whether a player is traded or cut, the cap effect is the same. It is possible Romo and the Cowboys could agree to a reworked deal by the end of this season that could lessen the team"s cap requirements and make it easier for them to make a trade next March. It is possible they could do the same if Romo has a change of heart and intends to retire after this season.

Romo and the Cowboys will have options. They have worked together on four contracts worth more than $180 million and $87 million guaranteed since he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003.

If they need or want to, both sides will figure out another agreement to make both parties happy.
