Bust out the champagne, Mickey Mouse turns 88 today. Fridaymarks the famous Disney cartoon characters 88th year of screen-time, as the date marks his very first film debut, which came out on Nov. 18, 1928.
Mickey Mouse has been an enduring symbol of the Walt Disney empire and his image has appeared in film, as well as on clothing, home goodsand, of, course, as the fun-loving mascot of the Walt Disney theme parks. Now that the big day has finally arrived, its time to celebrate with some quick facts about Walt Disneys most iconic creation.
The character of Mickey Mouse first appeared in the film Steamboat Willie, which debuted Nov. 18, 1928.
While the famous mouse character made his film debut in Steamboat w*****s, he had actually been the subject of two shorts prior The Gallopin Gaucho and Plane Crazy two films that were later released, according to Disney Parks blog.
The name of Mickey Mouse was said to have been suggested by Walt Disneys wife, according to Time. Previously, Disney had given the character the name of Mortimer Mouse.
The script for the very first short that Mickey was originally featured in, Plane Crazy, was done while Walt Disney was traveling on a train from Chicago.
Disney Studios was producing somewhere around 12 Mickey Mouse shorts a year by 1937, according to Time.
The animators to first design the characteristic movements of the mouse were inspired by actor Charlie Chaplin.
Mickey Mouse shorts were originally silent. The first short in which Mickey actually spoke debuted in 1929 for the cartoon short The Karnival Kid.
The 1929 short cartoon, The Opry House, was the first cartoon in which Mickey wore his famous white gloves, according to the Internet Animation Database.
In January 1930, the very first Mickey Mouse comic strip appeared in 40 newspapers. The comics were done by Ub Iwerks.
When Disney was first deciding on names for his amusement park, he had considered naming it Mickey Mouse Village.
Fifth Harmonys Lauren Jauregui appears to be speaking out after a snap of herself kissing another woman went viral earlier this week.
Lauren posted some choice words to her Instagram page on November 17 which appeared to allude to the kissing photo that surfaced on November 13, seemingly slamming those who posted negative comments in response to the photo, which showed her kissing a woman on the lips at a friends wedding.
Jauregui took to Instagram to post a quote by Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, which read, Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how others should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.
Though Jauregui didnt explicitly mention the photo in her post, Laurens fans were quick to assume that the Fifth Harmony star was alluding to the kissing snap, which hit the headlines and caused a whole lot of drama earlier this week.
A number of dedicated Fifth Harmony fans showed their support for Lauren in the photos caption, alluding to the kissing photo and showing their support for Jauregui in the wake of the media storm that surrounded the singer after Perez Hilton published the snap on Twitter on November 13.
You are such an inspiration for us and you believe in us in a way that even we dont. You are the stronger and kindest person on earth and youre a model! Instagram user @emma_lamant told Lauren. You stay yourself no matter what people say, and you never give up. I love you Lauren and Ill always support you no matter what! Always stay yourself.
True People should learn to mind their [business], Fifth Harmony fan @wakitach254 added in response to Jaureguis inspirational quote. Lead your life how you see it fit and leave the judgement to the Almighty.
The Fifth Harmony fans sweet message to Lauren came just days after followers of the girl band were sent into meltdown mode over the photo showing Jauregui kissing another woman, with some of the bands followers claiming that Lauren actually received a whole lot of backlash after the photo found its way online.

Lauren Jauregui and Fifth Harmony fan @CustomCabello claimed that Jauregui actually lost around 10,000 followers after the kissing photo found its way online, while other social media users revealed that Jauregui was exposed to a slew of negative comments, even from Fifth Harmony fans.
But while some fans appeared to blast Lauren over the kissing photos, thousands of fans showed their support for Jauregui while others used the 140-character site to slam blogger Perez Hilton for helping the snap, which showed Jauregui kissing another female identified only as Lucy on the lips, to go viral.
Fifth Harmonys legions of fans hit back at Perez on social media, claiming that the blogger may have outed Lauren as a lesbian by posting the photo, which has since been picked up by a number of other news outlets including the Daily Mail, on Twitter.

Coming out is supposed to be a great opportunity to feel free, but Perez trying to force Lauren to come out when shes not ready disgusts me, Fifth Harmony fan @lindsaylee2002 tweeted out of Laurens kissing photo, while @cabellocolours wrote of Jauregui, It makes me so so sad that Perez outed Lauren. Theres a reason why she didnt publicly come out yet and he has no right to do that for her.
However, as Fifth Harmony followers continue to slam Perez, Jauregui has not yet confirmed if the kissing snap is a statement about her sexuality or if the wedding photo is a silly and non-sexual moment with a friend as Hilton claimed on Twitter.
What do you think of Fifth Harmony fans response to the viral photo of Lauren Jauregui kissing another woman?

Manchester by the Sea Movie CLIP - Take a Shower (2016) - Casey Affleck Movie
"When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem resembles a nail." ~ Abraham Maslow
Writer/Director Kenneth Lonergan is a tremendous explorer of psychological terrains seldom traversed due to their complexity. Played by Casey Affleck, the character Lee Chandler is an average American Joe who does not have the tools necessary to grieve the loss of his family nor to redeem himself for his part in its destruction.
But maybe some situations are so far beyond the pale of comprehension that redemption is unfathomable?
Such may be the case in "Manchester by the Sea."
One can just imagine Kenneth Lonergan and Matt Damon pitching the film to Casey Affleck: "It"s like "The Mission" but heartwarming and funny."
Americana as therapy. In a fishing village where the only intervention after self-imposed solitary confinement seems to be a few drunken punches thrown at the local bar.
Produced by Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions, "Manchester by the Sea" is a masterclass in acting and will streak the Academy Awards in all of those categories.
When Lee Chandler is forced to be the guardian of his nephew Patrick following Lee"s brother"s death, Lee must return to a town packed with history, a history that Lonergan unfolds for us little by little. In the meantime, a loving dynamic between Lee and his nephew Patrick gradually develops through a series of mostly humorous and excessively authentic contentious quarrels.
The only deficit of this film appears to be not giving Michelle Williams more screen time. As Randi, Ms. Williams tears up all of the lusciously grim and gray backdrops surrounding her; she bursts off of the screen not unlike Jennifer Lawrence in "American Hustle." The interactions she has with Lee - her husband and ex-husband at various times during the film - expand from quaint and charming to immeasurable and war-torn. The culminating scene between Ms. Williams and Mr. Affleck is pure genius.
"Manchester by the Sea" is a richly layered and wonderfully nuanced masterpiece.
Nietzsche referred to Socrates as "he who did not write." One could refer to Lee Chandler as "he who did not talk," or rather "he who could not find the words to express his tragedy." Which is precisely why audiences will be awestruck by Casey Affleck"s heart-wrenching performance as Lee Chandler, the staid every-man who is like a planet that has many stars revolve and sometimes explode around it. And he is the richer for it.
Even following his death in 2013"s Man of Steel, General Zod continued to be an important DC Extended Universe player during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. Michael Shannon, on the other hand, can"t say the same thing. Although the actor had some fun in the past over just how much he was involved with the filming of the second DCEU installment, he"s now confirmed once and for all that the only way he was participated in the blockbuster was by providing his voice, as he didn"t show up to any of the sets.
While speaking with our own Eric Eisenberg, Michael Shannon confirmed that he wasn"t anywhere near Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when it was in principal photography, and his only contribution was recording some lines later on. He explained:
I never set foot on the set of Batman v Superman... In the movie there"s a large rubber version of my n***d body that Lex Luthor is playing with. I was not, the only thing I did for that is I did some ADR of some lines that Zack thought he might use in the movie of my disembodied spirit talking to Lex Luthor, but other than that...
Michael Shannon also reiterated that the story he told about having to wear "flipper hands" while shooting was just him s******g with the press. As far as the voice tidbit, the actor mentioned in September 2015 he would be playing a "ghost," akin to Jor-El"s consciousness appearing in Man of Steel despite the man himself having died decades earlier. However, as we"ve since seen, the Zod "ghost" subplot didn"t make it into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"s theatrical or Ultimate Edition cuts. As for Zod"s body being seen in the movie, we can thank the finest in movie-making technology for creating a dummy that looked so much like Shannon that we briefly wondered whether the actor had simply come to the set to lay on a table.
18 months after Superman snapped Zod"s neck to save a family from being incinerated, Lex Luthor obtained the Kryptonian general"s corpse in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for experimentation. After using Zod to confirm how kryptonite affects Kryptonian biology, Luthor later put the corpse into the Krytponian ship"s Genesis Chamber and combined it with his own blood. This created the "Kryptonian Deformity," a.k.a. Doomsday, who went on a rampage before Superman sacrificed himself to stop it. This may not be the last we"ve seen of the beast if it"s as resilient as its comic book counterpart, but as far as Michael Shannon is concerned, his time with franchise appears to be permanently over. Still, there"s a small part of me that wishes we could have seen Zod haunting Luthor and whispering diabolical nothings into his ear.
