Saturday Sessions: Margo Price sings "Since You Put Me Down"
One of The Nice Guys is coming to Studio 8H, as Russell Crowe makes his first appearance as a guest host on Saturday Night Live.
That may come as somewhat of a surprise, but perhaps being largely associated with a string of dramatic (and award-winning) roles has kept the former gladiator and father of Superman away from the SNL stage. Until now, that is, as Crowe is next set to hit theaters as one half of the starring duo in Shane Blacks The Nice Guys, alongside Ryan Gosling (who hosted earlier this season).
Whether or not Crowes costar returns to SNL, the Gladiator star has a lengthy career from which the showswriters can pull for sketches. And with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice still in theaters and largely unaddressed by the sketch show, now is the perfect time for Crowe to don his Jor-El robes from Man of Steel for a parody of the sequel. (What if Jesse Eisenbergs Lex Luthor stumbled upon a Jor-El hologram in the film? Could Supermans Kryptonian father have helped settled the fight before any punches were thrown? Theres plenty of potential material to mine from the superhero blockbuster.)
The previews for the episode, while rarely an exact indicator for whats to come, certainly play off Crowes renown for serious, intense roles. So it would not be surprising to see more than a couple of sketches task the host with bouncing his dramatic flairs off the comedic energies of the main players.

At the very least, he could certainly go off on Taran Killam should the SNL player decide to break out his Crowe impression once again. Its all a matter of how game Crowe is to play along with what the writers and ensemble have in mind, but if the previews for The Nice Guys are any indication, he certainly doesnt mind proving his comedic chops when necessary.
Crowe will be joined by another first timer, musical guest Margo Price, whose first solo album, Midwest Farmers Daughter debuted last month.
