SCRIPTED- Teddy Bridgewater"s fake 8-30-16 injury +U.S. Bank Stadium, Denny Green, Prince & Kaep
When an NFL player goes down with an injury, it"s not always clear how bad it is. But in the case of Teddy Bridgewater, it"s pretty evident that the Vikings knew right away that they were dealing with something serious.
Just minutes after the Bridgewater went down, an employee of the team called 911 in order to get an ambulance to the Vikings" practice facility as quickly as possible.
In the call, which you can hear below, a dispatcher is asking paramedics to quickly get to "9520 Vikings Drive" because someone there has suffered a "dislocated knee."
Bridgewater went down just before 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
By 2:08 p.m CT, there was already an ambulance on the scene.
The quick response paid off big time for Bridgewater. A league source told injury expert Will Carroll that the quick action by the team trainers and the paramedics "may have saved [Bridgewater"s] leg and career."
Although Bridgewater"s injury was serious, it easily could"ve been more serious if there had been any lag in response time.
A few hours after Bridgewater was taken to a nearby hospital, the Vikings officially announced that their quarterback would miss the 2016 season after suffering a dislocated kneecap and a torn ACL.
"Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury today at practice," the team said in a statement. "The injury was quickly identified as a dislocated knee. The injury was stabilized, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage."
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was emotional when talking about Bridgewater"s injury on Tuesday.
"We"re gonna grieve today and be upset about it," Zimmer said. "Teddy"s a great kid, and he"ll be back as soon as he possibly can, if it is real bad. But we"re going to keep fighting."
Bridgewater is expected to make a full recovery.
