Saturday Sessions: Margo Price sings "Since You Put Me Down"
One of The Nice Guys is coming to Studio 8H, as Russell Crowe makes his first appearance as a guest host on Saturday Night Live.
That may come as somewhat of a surprise, but perhaps being largely associated with a string of dramatic (and award-winning) roles has kept the former gladiator and father of Superman away from the SNL stage. Until now, that is, as Crowe is next set to hit theaters as one half of the starring duo in Shane Blacks The Nice Guys, alongside Ryan Gosling (who hosted earlier this season).
Whether or not Crowes costar returns to SNL, the Gladiator star has a lengthy career from which the showswriters can pull for sketches. And with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice still in theaters and largely unaddressed by the sketch show, now is the perfect time for Crowe to don his Jor-El robes from Man of Steel for a parody of the sequel. (What if Jesse Eisenbergs Lex Luthor stumbled upon a Jor-El hologram in the film? Could Supermans Kryptonian father have helped settled the fight before any punches were thrown? Theres plenty of potential material to mine from the superhero blockbuster.)
The previews for the episode, while rarely an exact indicator for whats to come, certainly play off Crowes renown for serious, intense roles. So it would not be surprising to see more than a couple of sketches task the host with bouncing his dramatic flairs off the comedic energies of the main players.

At the very least, he could certainly go off on Taran Killam should the SNL player decide to break out his Crowe impression once again. Its all a matter of how game Crowe is to play along with what the writers and ensemble have in mind, but if the previews for The Nice Guys are any indication, he certainly doesnt mind proving his comedic chops when necessary.
Crowe will be joined by another first timer, musical guest Margo Price, whose first solo album, Midwest Farmers Daughter debuted last month.

Popular Dallas food reporter Stacy Fawcett has died, PEOPLE confirms.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the Plano Police Department confirmed that Fawcett, 45, and her son Josiah Utu, 17, both suffered fatal stab wounds early Friday when Fawcett"s eldest son 19-year-old McCann Utu Jr. attacked the pair before stabbing himself.
After the incident, a male suspect contacted police, telling the 911 operator that he had committed murder. Officers were then dispatched to the home in Plano, Texas a suburb 20 miles north of Dallas where they "made entry into the residence and discovered a deceased adult male and adult female along with another adult male who was alive with multiple stab wounds."
The suspect, McCann Utu Jr., was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Although authorities could not confirm it, Justin Fawcett Stacy"s brother said that his nephew had been different since suffering a traumatic brain injury over a year ago, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Since the mother and sons" deaths, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help fund the memorial services for the entire family. Any excess funds will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank in Fawcett"s memory. The account has already raised $7,711 of its $10,00 goal.
Fawcett"s Facebook page has also been turned into a memoriam account.
On Friday, students gathered around a makeshift memorial at Plano West High School where Josiah was a junior. Jobin Panicker, a reporter at WFAA Channel 8 in Dallas where Fawcett was a regular contributor, shared pictures from the school"s campus, in which hundreds of students paid their respects.
Panicker later shared more photos of the community at Parkway Hills Baptists Church where students and community members came together again in mourning for the family.
Shooter Drill @ Lackland AFB Turned Live (Richmond Peace)

Authorities are investigating a shooting that left 2 people dead at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. VPC

SAN ANTONIO Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicideafter a shooting Fridayat Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, the Bexar County Sheriff"s Office said.
The base was under a complete lockdown after reports of an active shooter around 8:30 a.m. CT.
Less than three hours later, the sheriff"s office said the situation was contained and that the shooter is no longer active.
In a news conference at the base,Brig. Gen. Bob LaBrutta, the commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, said two men were found dead in an office on the first floor of building 147 of the Medina Annex, a classroom facility known as Forbes Hall. Two Glock weapons were found at the scene.
He stressed that the shooting was not an act of terrorismand declined to identify the two men, saying their families must be notified first. The Air Force"s Office of Special Investigations is leading the investigation, and the FBI is assisting.
"Right now it does appear to be a murder-suicide situation," said James Keith, spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff"s Office.
Authorities did not release a motive.
"This morning we received one of those calls you never want to receive," LaBrutta said. "The response to this tragic event was overwhelming and was absolutely outstanding. We got to the facility in question in 3 minutes."
Only law enforcement such as security forces and Office of Special Investigations agents are allowed to carry weapons on base, he said. The investigation will look at how the weapons were brought into the facility.
Allowing everyone to carry personal firearms would make the job of our security professionals much more difficult, saidDan Hawkins, a spokesman for the base. Security officers must be notified if a personal weapon is being brought onto the installation and the firearm must be registered, in addition to other requirements.
Lackland AFB is part of Joint Base San Antonio. The base is an entry processing point for Air Force enlisted basic training.
Lackland had a basic military training graduation event scheduled for Friday, the Air Force said in a tweet before the news broke of the shooter.
Friday"s shooting is the latest to occur at a military facility in Texas in the past several years.
In January 2015, an Army veteran and former clerk at the veterans" clinic at Fort Bliss in El Paso shot and killed a psychologist, then committed suicide.
About a year earlier, three soldiers were killed and 16 wounded in an attack at Fort Hood near Killeen by Army Spc. Ivan A. Lopez, who also killed himself.
And in 2009 in the deadliest attack to occur at a U.S. military installation, 13 people were killed and 31 were wounded in a mass shooting at Fort Hood. Nidal Hasan, a former U.S. Army major, was convicted and sentenced to death in that shooting.

Hardcore Henry | Official Trailer | STX Entertainment The movies hyperkinetic action was shot using tiny GoPros.Credit STX Entertainment / Courtesy Everett
Raised from a watery chamber resembling a womb, Henry, a full-grown man, looks out on the world as if for the first time. Viewers see Henrys world through his own eyes (which is how all of Hardcore Henry is made), and his prospects seem circumscribed. Henry finds himself in a hospital-like setting; hes unable to speak, and hes missing an arm and a leg. In short order, however, a medical professional named Estelle (Haley Bennett) fits him with high-tech prostheses, which she snaps into place, attaches to his body, and covers with a coating of his own skin. Henry is also suffering from memory loss, and Estelle reminds him of one detail: theyre husband and wife.
When armed invaders breach the operating room, Henry discovers what Estelle already knewthat theyre someplace in the sky, inside an airplaneand husband and wife clamber through vents to reach a conveniently located escape pod. The pod jettisons them down to the middle of a highway in the vicinity of Moscow, where their newfound safety is quickly dispelled by the impact of an oncoming S.U.V. The action alone, at least early in the film, partakes of the inventive movie heroism of the ridiculous sublime, but unfortunately, like the escape pods themselves, the story has nowhere to go from those initial heights but down.
Because the cameras (mainly tiny GoPros) that record the action are affixed to a helmet-like mount at the level of Henrys mouth, even the simplest of running strides is hyperkinetic. The violence that Henry deals and endures (and Henry is, throughout the film, played by a varied range of stunt specialists) has a jagged, flash-frame-like rapidity that quickly grows as familiar as an ache, and elicits not excitement or fascination but a distracted curiosity around the edgesas, for instance, in the fish-eye effect featured in almost every shot, which bends the firm verticals of walls and trees and lamp poles into ludicrously supple arcs.
But I digress. Henry, not just car-smashed but under armed assault at ground level, is rescued by the gruffly chipper Jimmy (Sharlto Copley), who puts him in a car, takes him for a ride, and discloses to him the cyborgian terms of survival. Henry needs a battery charge (hes got a couple of sockets in his chest and Jimmy has a couple of plugs in his glove compartment), but new mayhem gets in the way. Henry, armed and possessed with superhuman strength and accuracy, copiously sheds the blood of the attackers and makes another escape.
Jimmy turns out to be a sort of shape-shifter (its the one plot device of admirable ingenuity), and his forms and styles lend the movie its one comic sidebar and antic diversion; Copley appears to be having a good time delivering the requisite mimicry. Meanwhile, theres an evil mastermind behind these attacksan affected, orotund blond beast named Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), whose unexplained telekinetic powers make for some brief touches of gestural majesty that hardly compensates for their gratuitousness. But then, gratuitous is this movies very stock in trade, and most of it relates to blood and s*x.
Counting up the assailants that Henry and Jimmy dispatch to the beyond would be like counting flies in a slaughterhouse, and the movie depicts their deaths with a comparable indifferenceusually with a b****y splat, except when some special grotesquery of a shattered brainpan or a hacked carotid proves unavoidable or irresistible. And since the movie is shot entirely from Henrys point of view, it delivers the dubious delight of doing that killing while conveying virtually none of the danger that Henry himself facesdespite depicting the horde of assailants and even the shuddering force of their attacks. Even though, within the vague rules of the deadly game, Henry isnt invulnerable, his rounds of mass mayhem are nearly ziplesspure, disinterested, mechanical fun, if thats your idea of fun.
The curses and epithets fly throughout, but the worst that anyone (a man) reserves for anyone else (a man) is p***y, and the director, Ilya Naishuller, makes clear his fine opinion of womanhood throughoutnot least, in a long, lurid, and ultimately gory sequence that takes place in a brothel, where he just happens to propel Henry into room after room of red-lit, pneumatic action featuring throngs of t*****s women servicing their male clients. When the gunplay starts, it gives the women just enough of a chance to run around in front of Henry as he makes his way back through the chambers, so that the display of flesh can be doubled in length.
Yet even this sideshow cant top the ending, which I wont spoil, although its pretty rotten in itself. Suffice it to say that, somewhere late in the film, theres an act of violence by a man against a woman that plays onscreen like the kind of revenge that, the director seems to imagine, the movies male viewers have long dreamed of inflicting on the women in their lives or in their fantasies.
The movie is shot on location in Moscow, but there isnt much of the city on view in the darting camera work. There are the subtlest hints of political dismay in glimpses of the casual corruption of the police, whether at a traffic stop, in a request for a light for a cigarette, or in a sexual attack on a womanand, for that matter, in the casual anarchy of the story itself, a macabre series of mass killings that the authorities seem to have no awareness of and no ability to stop.
Some of the stunt work is remarkableIm thinking especially of a parkour scene that leads from a basement through a park to a bridge, as well as a highway car chase in which a motorcycle, with sidecar, is driven into, through, and out of a fast-moving vanbut the movies hyperactive thrills are very quickly dispelled not merely by their quantity, by the numbing amount of stakes-free violence, and by the combatants monotonously undetailed and stultified world but, above all, by the absence of direction. Thats why the best moments in the filmthe ones that capture some of the choreographic delights of stunt work and give the action a tinge of psychological resonance and personal implicationare those in which Henry isnt a participant but a mere spectator, in which Jimmy does the fighting or, for that matter, does an unexpected bit of musical comedy. The rest of the time, the first-person perspective flattens and dulls the experience. Theres no I in its eye.

"We Didn"t Start The Fire" l 2016 New York Mets Season Preview
Mr. Met wants his ring.
Longtime Mets mascot Steven Boldis was with the team through thick and thin over the past 15 years 12 of which he spent as the teams nationally loved mascot.
But when NL Championship rings were handed out to most everyone involved with the organization on Thursday amazin"ly Boldis was left stranded on base.
MEET THE 2016 METS IN OUR TEAM INTERACTIVE
Boldis last day of work with the team was Nov. 2, 2015, when the Kansas City Royals came from behind to beat the home team and claim the World Series title at Citi Field. Having left his job with the Mets for a construction gig in the offseason, Boldis wasnt in Kansas City on Sunday where, as luck would have it, the Mets opened the 2016-2017 season and suffered the indignation of watching the Royals receive their World Series bling. But sources tell us that he was hoping to be in a celebratory mood on Thursday when the Mets returned home and received their NL championship rings, which are made up of 110 diamonds and 42 sapphires that spell out the Mets NY logo.
Boldis good pal Keith Collins, a Mets fan and actor whose credits include The Jersey Devil, says it"s an outrage that Mr. Met doesn"t have a ring on his finger.
I was enraged when he told me he didnt have a ring, Collins told the News. Im more upset about it than he is. Everybody gets one! Even the grounds crew. He was there until the end of the season then after the series ended he resigned. There were no bad feelings. It was just time. There were players who got traded and still got rings.

A rep for the Mets tells the Daily News that Mr. Met didnt pay his dues.
The organization created and distributed more than 750 rings. There were specific criteria for part-time and per diem employees related to hours worked last season, according to a Mets spokesperson. He worked approximately half of the required hours last season, did not meet the criteria, and as such did not receive a ring.
Boldis couldn"t be reached for comment.
