"She wanted me to get lost": Dolly Parton"s sister opens up about their difficult relationship

Dolly Parton on Her Comeback, Her Gay Fans & Hillary Clinton

Growing up with Dolly Parton was pretty tough at times, writes her sister Stella in a touching new memoir.

Stella and Dolly were just two of the twelve children born into a "poor but proud" family who lived in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee.

They lived a shockingly simple life - with beds made of straw, no running water, gas or electricity.

"I loved hearing the sound of that straw. It"s great for sleeping because it sounds like rain," writes Stella in the book Tell It Sister Tell It: Memories Music and Miracles.

Stella, who is three years younger than the "Jolene" singer, describes how their "hard working, hard drinking" Daddy bartered for goods, services and medical care.

Mental health issues thwarted their mother, leaving Stella to care for the younger children.

The family was so cash-strapped when Dolly was born that her father gave the local doctor a bag of grain to persuade him to deliver her.

"Daddy paid Doctor Thomas a sack of meal to deliver dolly," writes Stella, now 62.

Tough act to follow: While Dolly rose to fame, Stella struggled to achieve her own profession in county music. She is now sharing her story in the new book, Tell It Sister Tell It: Memories Music and Miracles

"She was an expensive baby. Sometimes we"d pay him with chickens, whatever we had available."

While Dolly rose to childhood fame in the southern state Stella recalls being pushed to the sidelines.

"In my own mind I remain a little mountain girl sitting in the front yard with my big sister Dolly, making up songs," she writes.

"One of my earliest memories is of Dolly"s impatience with me because I couldn"t come up with a satisfactory line in one of these early collaborations. I think I was always a pain in her neck," she adds.

"All I wanted was to be included in what she was doing. All she wanted was for me to get lost."

Stella"s twenties were marred by abusive relationships and she survived a brutal attempted rape by a Tennessee official when she was 24.

"He slapped me so hard he broke my nose," recounts Stella of the attack.

"You can still see the scar on my face today - where the bone popped through the flesh."

While Dolly rose to mega-stardom and multi-million dollar record deals Stella struggled to achieve her own profession in county music.

"Either I can allow it [having a famous sister] to be a curse or I can find the blessing in it," she writes.

"Yes, doors have been slammed in my face and there are those who resent me today because they think: "How dare she try and have a career with Dolly being so successful - I bet she gets handouts all the time - I bet Dolly does everything for her.""

In the early years of their careers Stella recalls an insulting incident when their uncle, who was helping to manage Dolly, tried to force her out of the music industry all together.

"I remember it as if it was yesterday," writes Stella who was raising a baby as a single mother at the time.

"He said; "You need to take that kid of yours and go back home and work in the beauty shop where you belong."""

The uncle had decided that it would "hurt Dolly"s music career" if Stella was in the music business too.

Meanwhile Dolly spoke up and said: "Well Stella, if you are going to sing then you need to change your name," says the book.

Stella was "heartbroken" by the knockback but she persisted regardless - she went on to release 31 chart singles and tour internationally.

She adds: "People don"t really know my story. If you knew you"d be surprised not jealous. There are so many awkward situations to maneuver because of my relationship with my sister.

"People think I should be able to cut right to the front of the line because Dolly has been at the top of her game so long."

Her feelings of "exclusion" from Dolly in her younger years have left a mark: "Dolly found every reason in the world to keep me as far away as possible and over the years I finally gave up and let her have it," writes

Stella who clearly loves and respects her sister dearly - despite their past troubles.

"Dolly has done more to improve the lives of people in East Tennessee than anyone else I can think of in the last fifty years," she writes.

Sales from the book will help support domestic violence shelters across the US.

The internet is really, REALLY upset that Brendan Fraser isn"t in The Mummy anymore here"s how they"re fighting ...

Sad Brendan Fraser Interview

In todays edition of the internet being the internet, some folks are really mad at the new Mummyfor starring Tom Cruise instead of Brendan Fraser. Despite Cruises seemingly natural onscreen charisma and history of leading successful action franchises, the internet insists that Fraser star of the 99 film The Mummy, its 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, and the 08 threequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the only man in Hollywood qualified to take on ancient Egyptian evil.

And since injustices of this magnitude shall not be tolerated, the internet is fighting back.

It all started when the trailer for Cruises Mummy which takes place at a much later time than Frasers, and therefore finds Cruise playing a totally different character was released on December 5th. Fans began to tweet sentiments like The Mummy is not THE mummy without Brendan Fraser #NotMyMummy, leading to #NotMyMummy trending on the social networking site.

At this, fans began to discuss Frasers noticeably stalled career a conversation also largely influenced by an article questioning why Hollywood wont cast Brendan Fraser anymore, which is still making the rounds on social media. Though hes recurring on the third season of Showtimes critically acclaimed The Affair, he hasnt made waves at the box office since 2008, when he starred in the critically panned Mummy threequeel and Journey to the Center of the Earth, alongside Josh Hutcherson.

One fan began a Change.org petition to Bring Brendan Fraser back into film/television, in which said fan (and 27,916 others, as of press time) petitions Netflix, HBO, Starz, Showtime, and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to please consider Brendan for any upcoming shows/movies that are planned Please help us get Brendan back on his feet again, we miss him.

Brendan is a much loved actor worldwide, people are shocked that he wasnt at least offered a smaller role in the new Mummy movie, it reads. Brendan has been in multiple interviews recently and has appeared to be very down and out, and us loyal fans feel like we are obliged to help him in any way possible.

Theres also a SAVEBRENDAN subreddit, in which fans share news as well as ideas on how to get him back in the spotlight. (If yall want to improve his visibility, you should make funny reaction gifs involving him and share em on gif subreddits is currently top of the page.)

Meanwhile, over on Imgur, fans have been up-voting photos of Fraser to the top of the sites front page.

No one knows what if any effect all of this might have on Frasers career. But since news of his growing, nostalgic fandom is already going viral, sharing ones love for the erstwhile George of the Jungle star cant exactly hurt. Who knows maybe theyll put him in a Star War?!

Colorado teen competes on "Project Runway Junior"

DENVER (AP) When Molly O"Brien was just 8 years old, she was hand-sewing pillows with her grandmother and making dresses out of newspaper at a fashion camp in Kentucky.

Now, at 17, the Fort Collins high school senior is a contestant on the second season of Lifetime"s "project runway junior," a show that is notorious for asking contestants to create beautiful, wearable garments out of unconventional materials.

"You just treat (newspaper) like fabric in a lot of terms, doing things like pleating," O"Brien said. "But a lot of the time you have to use hot glue or hand sewing. It was kind of hard to learn to use those paper materials because you have to work differently."

Certainly, she knows about working differently: Last year, she created a dress out of book pages for a project at Rocky Mountain High School.

But O"Brien is not just about working with wacky materials: She also has her own clothing line, Molly Elizabeth Designs.

And she gained early acceptance into the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) in California, reported The Denver Post (http://dpo.st/2hnCHhe).

At such a young age, O"Brien"s resume is impressive: She"s already participated in some major fashion weeks. The first was when she was just a high school freshman in Nebraska, and her sewing teacher recommended she audition for Omaha Fashion Week.

Over the course of four months in between homework, classes and designing prom dresses for friends and family across the country O"Brien created a 1970s-inspired, eight-piece collection to show at Omaha and Kansas City fashion weeks, where she was each show"s youngest designer.

"What I wanted to reflect was kind of that late 1960s early 1970s Coachella vibe. I like to design that with a lot of my sketches, it just fit that era," O"Brien said.

"Suede, lace, fringe, bell bottoms. So I chose that as a cohesive theme, but I still wanted to put a modern twist on it. That"s where a lot of the inspiration for silhouettes and fabrics come from."

The next year, O"Brien"s family moved to Colorado, and she set her sights on showing at Vancouver Fashion Week. She had already been working on a new collection: Athleisure, black and white, referee-inspired sporty street wear.

"My second collection was probably a little more concrete," O"Brien said. "Like I planned out everything in advance."

The next thing she knew, O"Brien found herself applying for "Project Runway Jr." and stressing out over the rigorous, five-month-long audition process.

"That was almost as hard as being on the show," O"Brien said. "It definitely trains you for having to go in there and be in that type of environment."

The Project Runway spinoff for 13- to 17-year-olds follows the same pattern as the original: 12 eclectic, amateur clothing designers hole up in New York City for a month, frantically competing against each other in bizarre and unconventional fashion-design challenges while racing against the clock and enduring harsh evaluations from fashion consultant Tim Gunn and other industry celebrities.

"You just have to think really fast and think on your feet really quick," O"Brien said. "And you have to make something that represents your design style, something that fits the challenge, but also something that appeals to the judges. Fashion is definitely very subjective."

Fast-forward to December: Filming for "Project Runway Junior" has wrapped, and a winner has been chosen but O"Brien can"t reveal much about the series or anything about the challenges (you"ll have to watch for yourself).

But she can say this about the experience: "My favorite part about being on the show was getting to meet all the people. You don"t meet a lot of other kids your age who design, so it"s just really cool."

"Project Runway Junior" premiered Dec. 22.

Oklahoma lineman Orlando Brown Jr. a chip off the old block

Orlando Brown Describes Raven Symone"s Breasts & Their Relationship at 14

Years ago, a much smaller version of Oklahoma left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. was called for a personal foul in a youth football game.

His dad, Orlando Sr. all 6-foot-7 and well over 300 pounds of him came rumbling down from the stands and onto the field. Not to complain to the officials. Not to chide his son.

Because he finally saw it.

The late Orlando Sr., nicknamed Zeus, started 119 NFL games as an offensive lineman, and he had long hoped the edge that could turn his son"s enormous talent into something special would emerge. He used to leave his son"s games when Jr. wasn"t aggressive enough, but that day in eighth grade was critical in showing dad that young Orlando would have a chance to follow in his footsteps.

"I celebrated, and he never left the game since then," Orlando Jr. recalled.

Orlando Sr. died in 2011 at the age of 40, but his son has made a name for himself as a dominant left tackle. The 6-foot-8, 340-pound Orlando Jr., who has inherited the Zeus nickname, was named a second-team AP All-American after not allowing a sack all season for the seventh-ranked Sooners. He will try to keep that streak alive in the Sugar Bowl against No. 17 Auburn on Jan. 2.

Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley isn"t sure his talented sophomore shouldn"t have been higher than second team.

"We"ve watched tape on a lot of people this year," Riley said. "I was glad he got second team, but I haven"t seen five people that were better than him."

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Brown is the total offensive lineman.

"Talent, size, his feet, his intensity, his toughness, his physicality," Stoops said. "He has everything, and he"s only going to get better. He just keeps developing his body and has all those attributes that make a guy special on the front line."

From the nickname to the bandanna to the size, strength and intensity, Orlando Jr. is a copy of his father. Though the game has changed, Orlando Jr. can look at old film and recognize what was special about his father as he played from 1993 to 2005.

"I don"t know if a lot of people have seen my dad play he was a wild animal," the younger Brown said.

Orlando Jr., a soft-spoken, chilled out teddy bear off the field, sometimes goes overboard once the helmet and shoulder pads come on. He said he knows he needs to cut down on the personal fouls, but the edge fuels him.

"When I get out on that field, there ain"t no guns, ain"t no knives," he said. "You can"t take me to jail for acting crazy, so it"s just what I do."

Brown has announced that he will return for his junior season, giving the Sooners a massive foundation to build on. He never sent in paperwork to get a draft grade.

"You know, it"s just understanding what they look for in the NFL, and basically what I"m good at, what I"m bad at, understanding I still have a lot to develop on and nowhere near what I need to be to be a first-round draft pick," he said. "That"s why I came here."

Brown"s relationship with Jammal Brown, a former Oklahoma All-American and friend of his father, has been crucial in his development. Jammal Brown was the one who helped Orlando Jr. realize he needed a little more fine tuning.

"What he says, goes," brown said. "i"ll be an oklahoma Sooner until I get a first-round grade. Until then, I"m here for however long it takes."

"Tis the season! Google spreads cheer with its Holiday 2016 Day 1 doodle

BEST DANCE CHALLENGE OUT NOW!!! | CLEANEST DANCE MOVES | #TIS THE SEASON DANCE CHALLENGE!!

Todays Google doodle is the the first of Googles holiday 2016 doodle series.

Designed by doodler Gerben Steenks, the animated image turns the Google letters into a crew of carolers.

From the Google Doodle Blog:

Dating back thousands of years, the original carols were songs specific to certain regions, and shared by wandering minstrels on their travels between towns. It wasnt until the early 1800s that the practice of caroling as we know it, spread across England and western Europe. During this time, cities began hosting outdoor orchestras that played songs for people to sing along with as they walked by.

The doodle leads to a search for tis the season! and includes a sharing icon to post the image on social feeds or send via email.

The doodle is posted on most of Googles home pages around the world, including warmer-climate countries in Central America, a handful in South America and most of Africa.

There is a second similarly-designed doodle titled Holiday 2016 (Day 1) Warm Climates that is posted on a small collection of Googles home pages, including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Cuba and most of South America.

It leads to searches for both Tis the season! and Happy Holidays.

"Tis the season

B.o.B & JaqueBeatz - Tis the season @SheLovesMeechie

Megan Wilson held her teddy bear, Alfonso, in her lap at Will Rogers World Airport as she waited to board a flight for the first leg of her trip home to California on a recent afternoon.

Alfonso is missing an eye and his nose is mostly worn off, but such is the life of a beloved, well-traveled bear. Wilson brings Alfonso with her everywhere. Once, the stuffed bear even had his own front-row seat at a performance in London"s West End, an area famous for its theater scene.

There was no way he would miss this trip.

Wilson, 18, was among the nearly 350,000 passengers who were expected to fly in and out of Will Rogers World Airport from Nov. 15 through Jan. 7. Nationwide, the Transportation Security Administration expected to screen more than 100 million travelers during that time period.

Last week, "Frosty the Snowman" and other holiday music played overhead at the airport as travelers with rolling suitcases, duffel bags and backpacks waited to board their flights. Many, like Wilson, were headed to visit family.

Wilson was looking forward to her family"s holiday traditions, like a lobster dinner together on Christmas Eve and the trail of golden chocolate coins that Santa Claus leaves at their house every year.

"This is my first time going home since July, so I"m really excited," she said.

AAA predicts that more than 103 million Americans, which would be the most on record, will travel for the year-end holidays between Friday and Jan. 2. That would be a 1.5 percent increase compared to last year.

An estimated 911,300 Oklahomans will travel during that 11-day holiday period, which represents an increase of just under 1 percent from 2015, according to AAA, and about 91 percent will travel by car, pickup or RV.

Transportation officials offered tips to help people navigate the busy holiday travel season.

Karen Carney, an airport spokeswoman, urged people who are flying to make sure they allow enough time. Officials recommended people flying from Will Rogers World Airport arrive at least an hour and a half before their flight.

The airlines have cutoff times for checking in to get a boarding pass as well as checking bags, so travelers should check with their airline to find out what the airline"s cutoff time is, Carney said.

"If you don"t, you certainly risk not getting a boarding pass or not having your bag fly with you," she said.

Ice or snow in other cities can affect travel in Oklahoma City, so people should check their flight before coming to the airport.

Carney also encouraged people to allow enough time for parking.

"That"s one of the biggest things people don"t really factor in when they"re coming out here," Carney said. "The airport has a lot of parking options, and we anticipate that they"ll be full. We have extra parking staff that will be working and making sure that everybody is accommodated."

Some facilities, like the parking garage, fill up faster than others, Carney said.

Being prepared for the security checkpoint is another way travelers can ensure they will have a smoother screening process and travel experience. Security officials collect about 80 pounds of prohibited items per month in Oklahoma City, said TSA Oklahoma Federal Security Director Steve Crawford.

Passengers who have questions about what items they are allowed to carry with them can visit TSA.gov and use an app to search whether certain items are allowed. Twitter also is a great way to contact TSA, officials said. People can tweet their questions to @AskTSA.

Officials encouraged people who are carrying on presents to leave the gifts unwrapped because if gift items need secondary screening, officials will have to unwrap them.

Those who are picking up family or friends from the airport can use one of three "cellphone waiting areas" until their friends or family are at the curb ready to be picked up.

Travelers who need special assistance can contact the TSA Cares program at (855) 787-2227.
