NFL Honors 2017: TV Schedule, Live-Stream Coverage, Final Predictions

The NFL has a habit of turning every little thing in the league calendar into an event, for better (e.g. the NFL draft, which is still addicting even though we are basically just watching people read off names five to 10 minutes at a time) or worse (showcasing a random and bad divisional game every Thursday night).

Throw the NFL Honors into the better category, if only because it"s an organized (and sometimes entertaining) way to present all the awards in one place (why MLB chooses to randomly and haphazardly reveal its MVP winners in a one-off news report the week before Thanksgiving, for example, is beyond me), and it helps kill time until the Super Bowl.

Here"s a look at this year"s nfl honors information, as well as predictions for the top seven categories. You can check out each category here on the NFL Honors webpage.

NFL Honors Information

When:Saturday

Time:8 p.m. ET

TV:Fox

Host: Comedian Keegan-Michael Key

Live Stream: Fox Sports Go

AP Comeback Player of the Year

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le"Veon Bell are the two best candidates for this award, as they both endured season-ending knee injuries in 2015, only to return and dominate this season. Nelson caught 97 passes for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Bell finished fifth in the league in rushing (1,268 yards) despite missing four games.

They are both deserving candidates, but Nelson has already won the PFW/PFWA Comeback Player of the Year award, which might foreshadow Saturday night"s winner.

Give the edge to Nelson, but either player is a good choice.

AP Defensive Rookie of the Year

Rick Scuteri/Associated Press

No contest here. San Diego defensive end Joey Bosa is the easy choice, as he racked up 41 tackles and 10.5 sacks in just 12 games. That stat line is made even more impressive by the fact he sat all of training camp due to a contract dispute and missed the first four games with a hamstring injury.

The rookie learning curve didn"t apply to Bosa (who is only 21 years old), however, and he quickly became a star.

AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

See above. Just replace Bosa and his stats with Ezekiel Elliott and his stats.

In all seriousness, the Dallas Cowboys running back was the No. 1 key to his team"s nine-win turnaround, accumulating 1,994 yards from scrimmage in 15 games while helping lead Dallas to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason.

Elliott has a great offensive line and another fantastic rookie (quarterback Dak Prescott) to thank for his individual success, but he enjoyed one of the best first years of any NFL player in recent memory.

AP Defensive Player of the Year

The best defensive player in football is Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is one of the best run-stoppers and interior pass-rushers in the game. That deadly combination helped him achieve Pro Football Focus" best grade (95.6) for any defensive player this season.

If you"re wondering what he did last year, he got a 99.9 score out of 100, per Pro Football Focus. That"s pretty good.

He"d get my vote if I had one. The issue is that Donald plays for a bad Rams team that finished 4-12, while other Defensive Player of the Year candidates (Oakland Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack, for instance, who won the PFW/PFWA award and Sporting News award for this category) played on postseason teams.

Still, Donald is just too good, and given the amount of tape and advanced statistics we have at our disposal to study players, maybe the voting body will give him more recognition even though he doesn"t play on national television.

Maybe I"m just being stubborn (that"s probably the case, actually), but I"m sticking with a Donald prediction even though Mack is sweeping this category so far.

AP Offensive Player of the Year

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson should win this award running away. He accumulated 2,118 yards from scrimmage and 20 touchdowns, leading the league in both categories.

Johnson did this even though the rest of his offense was largely poor, as quarterback Carson Palmer, a banged-up offensive line and every wide receiver not named Larry Fitzgerald had down and/or inconsistent seasons for the Cards.

Elliott could win this, as could Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan or Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but Johnson"s mind-boggling stats are too hard to ignore.

AP Coach of the Year

It"s a two-man race between Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The edge goes to Garrett because he led a nine-win turnaround year to year, the best improvement in the entire NFL. Dallas finished with the second-best regular-season record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

Belichick should get credit for leading the Pats to a 3-1 record while quarterback Tom Brady was suspended (and a 14-2 record overall), but funny enough, he handicaps himself from winning this award by doing so well year after year, as a marked improvement from the previous season is what usually secures this honor (check the list here).

I"m sure Belichick doesn"t mind, though.

AP Most Valuable Player

Ryan is clearly winning the MVP. He is a massive minus-1000 favorite to win, per OddsShark. The second-closest competitor is Rodgers at plus-500. In other words, the NFL engraved Ryan"s name on the trophy weeks ago.

Eric Gay/Associated Press

The Falcons quarterback led his team to an 11-5 record and the second seed in the NFC playoffs. He threw 38 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while completing 69.9 percent of his passes. Even more impressive, he tossed 12 touchdowns and no interceptions in the last four games of the regular season, all Falcons wins.

There are a handful of worthy MVP candidates this year, but Ryan is the clear-cut front-runner because he checks all of the boxes.

Tomi Lahren blasts Berkeley protesters as "militant herd of triggered crybabies"

Tomi Lahren - 2/2/2017 I Stand with Milo - Final Thoughts

Tomi Lahren blasted University of California, Berkeley protesters as a "militant herd of triggered crybabies" for causing chaos that forced the school to evacuate Breitbart editor Milo Yiannapoulos before he was scheduled to speak earlier this week.

"I don"t care what your leftist posse or professors told you, it is not OK, nor is it protected expression, to attack people or set fires because someone else"s free speech offends you," the conservative Blaze host said on Thursday night during her "Final Thoughts" segment.

"It"s true, the unloving and intolerant left will stop at nothing, literally nothing, to ensure conservatives don"t have a voice on college campuses and as evidence by the riots a U.C. Berkeley," she said before playing a montage of video showcasing the violence on the school"s campus that occurred Wednesday night.

Livestreams and Twitter posts from the demonstration show protesters shooting fireworks at the building, and at least one fire small fire was set near the event. Windows were also reportedly broken. Police ordered crowds to disperse, and fired rubber pellets at demonstrators who refused the order.

A local reporter tweeted images of "fresh" spray paint last night that featured vandalism saying "kill fascist," "f Milo," and "kill Trump" at a Walgreens located near the campus. The violence was instigated by a group of "about 150 masked agitators," according to a UC Berkeley statement, indicating that the majority of the "more than 1,500 protesters" conducted themselves peacefully.

"See, what these animals, and yes I said animals, did last night proves my point. It proves Milo"s point and it"s part of the cancer spreading like literal wildfire across our nations college campuses," Lahren said. "I can"t figure out why some in my generation are willing to create chaos and incite anarchy over someone else"s free speech."

No arrests were made, according to multiple reports including CNN and the L.A. Times, but President Donald Trump tweeted, "If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view NO FEDERAL FUNDS?"

HOF rebuffs Terrell Owens, John Lynch; Kyle Shanahan, Frank Gore honored

#3 Terrell Owens | Top 10 Wide Receivers of the 2000s | NFL Films

Terrell Owens, the 49ers second-most prolific wide receiver ever, and John Lynch, the 49ers new general manager, did not make this years Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

Some positive, 49ers-related news did emerge Saturday, however. Their future coach, Kyle Shanahan, was named the NFLs Assistant Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, and 49ers all-time leading rusher Frank Gore won the NFLs Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Shanahans honor wasnt a surprise as it came on the eve of Super Bowl LI, where he will serve one last game as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator beforeofficially gettinghired as the 49ers coach, a move thats been assumed for two weeks. Gore has played the past two seasons for the Indianapolis Colts afterthe 49ers did not re-sign him in free agency.

While Owens railed on social media about not being a second-ballot Hall of Famer, Lynch quietly fell short in what was his fourth straight year as a finalist (and second straight year of making the cut from 15 to 10).

This summers enshrinement class instead includes running backsLaDainian Tomlinsonand Terrell Davis, quarterback Kurt Warner, defensive endJason Taylor, kicker Morten Andersen, safety Kenny Easley and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Owens broke his badnews via Twitter, and he not hide his disappointment, ending initial tweets with the hashtag FlawedProcess. He latercalled the Hall of Fame a total joke, adding: Honestly, (it) doesnt mean anything to me to get in beyond this point.

Owens was a finalist for the second time in as many years since he became eligible after a 16-season career. He ranks second in NFL history with 15,934 receiving yards (Rice is first; 22,895 yards) and third with 153 receiving touchdowns (Rice had 197, Randy Moss 156).

TO shouldve been in the HOF the first time..the folks voting are a joke, current 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith tweeted.

The Dallas Morning News Rick Gosselin, who is on the 48-person selection committee, announced that debate over Owens candidacy lasted 32 minutes, the third-longest behind thosemulling themerits of Paul Tagliabue (hour) and Jones (nearly 34 minutes).

A 1996 third-round draft pick by the 49ers, Owens played his first eight seasons there, and he ranks second in the franchise record book for receptions (592), receiving yards (8,572) and touchdowns (81, the same number he wore on his jersey). His 49ers career was also marked by highs and lows. He made The Catch II in a playoff win over the Green Bay Packers and set a NFL record with 20 receptions in Rices final home game in 2000. He also drew a weeksuspension for celebrating at Dallas midfield logo, and he also made critical statements of teammates.

Owens left the 49ers in 2004 amid a free-agency mixup and eventual trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, wholost in the Super Bowl thatseason despite Owens nine receptions and 122 yards on a recently fractured lower leg.

Owens concluded his career with the Dallas Cowboys (2006-08), Buffalo Bills (2009) and Cincinnati Bengals (2010).

As for Lynch, his Hall of Fame candidacy apparently didnt get a needed boost after surprisingly being named the 49ers general manager Sunday.

A Fox Sports analyst since 2008, Lynch entered the NFL 24 years ago out of Stanford, when the Buccaneers drafted him in the third round (82nd overall pick). Lynch made nine Pro Bowls as he played from 1993-2003 with the Buccaneers and 2004-07 with the Broncos. He spent the 2008 exhibition season with the New England Patriots.

After earning All-Pro recognition from 1999-2001, Lynchs best prize came the following season, when he captained the 2002 Buccaneers to the franchises first and only Super Bowl win. Lynch had only one tackle and one pass defense in that 48-21 rout over the Raiders. That playoff run began with a 31-6 division-round win over the 49ers, in which Lynch had three tackles while Owens had four catches for 35 yards.

Lynch long ago gained a spot in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Specifically, his Erie Sailors cap is there from when he threw the first pitch in Florida Marlins history in 1992.

Shanahan is in his ninth season as an offensive coordinator, previously serving in that capacity for Houston (2008-09), Washington (2010-13) and cleveland (2014).

Ahead of Alessia Cara"s Saturday Night Live debut, the 20-year-old Canadian singer returned toThe Tonight Show where she staged her first TV performance in summer 2015 to play a few rounds of Wheel of Musical Impressions with Jimmy Fallon.

The Musical Impression Generator first forced cara to sing the nursery school staple "Skidamarink" under the guise of Ariana Grande also a Wheel of Musical Impressions veteran with Fallon then countering by singing the Empire Carpet jingle as Sting, an impression he"s done before.

Cara was next called up to perform The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme as Nicki Minaj, and despite warning that her impression wouldn"t be worthy of the rapper, Cara ultimately nailed the impersonation. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach"s Highlights @ NFL Honors Awards & Red Carpet

The Los Angeles Rams had been shut out of the NFLs weekly awards through two weeks of the 2016 NFL Regular Season.

Every week at NFL.com, the league nominates three players each for the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week, given to the respective best QBs and RBs from that week of play, five players for the Pepsi Rookie of the week, and five players for the Castrol Edge Clutch Performer of the week.

Finally in Week 3, the Rams made an appearance.

For coming up big with the final stop of the game, DE Robert Quinn was among the five nominees for Week 3. His competition:

  • Washington Football LB Sua Cravens: Late interception helped ensure Footballs two-point win over the Giants.
  • Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi: His OT touchdown run won the game for Miami against Cleveland.
  • Baltimore Ravens K Justin Tucker: His fourth field goal of the game, a 54-yarder, put the Ravens ahead for good against Jacksonville.
  • Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton: If QB Andrew Luck needed a huge play to jumpstart his season, perhaps Hiltons 63-yard game-winning TD was it.

So go give Quinn a vote!
