Patch Weekend Movie Guide: "Get Out," "Collide" and "My Life As A Zucchini"

Collide - Movie Review

Here"s what you need to know about this weekend"s new movies "Get Out," "Collide," "My Life as a Zucchini" and more. Find out what to see and what to skip, plus check out the trailers.

Opening This Weekend

"Get Out" Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, directed by Jordan Peele

Director Jordan Peele steps behind the camera for the first time, and within his favorite genre: horror. When interracial couple Chris (Kaluuya) and Rose (Williams) embark on a weekend of meet-and-greet with her parents, foreboding vibes turn the trip into a truly horrifying premise. For once, the villains of a racially charged horror film aren"t rural southerners but rather self-congratulatory intellectuals in this intensely thoughtful and gory ride.

See it: Like the best of the genre, biting satire of our world underscores thrills and chills.

"Collide" Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins, directed by Eran Creevy

To save his girlfriend"s life, Casey (Hoult) must acquiesce to drug runners" demands and embark on a high-speed escape across the Autobahn highway. "Collide" has been stuck in release limbo after the collapse of Relativity Media, and its years on the shelf don"t seem to have done the film any favors. But it does boast the always epic Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley.

Skip it: This looks like a reproduction of better, cheeky, action-genre fare already out there.

Quick Cuts

"My Life as a Zucchini" (Limited Release) Will Forte, Nick Offerman, Ellen Page, directed by Claude Barras

See it: A talented American voice cast fronts a French director"s stop-motion animation about a set of orphans navigating early life. It"s up for Best Animated Film this weekend, and its crushingly sweet sensibility accompanies a dark comic streak, so consider this PG-13 film only for mature young"uns.

"The Girl With All the Gifts" (Limited Release) Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, directed by Colm McCarthy

Skip it: A high concept "zombie drama," "Gifts" is set in the future at a rural England military base where a group of children is battling a cannibalism-inducing plague. That"s a h**l of an elevator pitch. I won"t seek this one out, but I will watch at home the zombie genre could use some fresh brain um... ideas.

Netflix Picks

"Quiz Show" (1994) Robert Redford directed this "90s classic about true-to-life game show corruption during the 1950s. It"s full of great performances (particularly John Turturro and Ralph Fiennes) and becomes something greater than historiography. A little slow, but worth it.

"Man On Wire" (2008) A spellbinding story that falls under the category of "truth is stranger than fiction," this documentary follows French acrobat Philippe Petit and his illegal high-wire act between the World Trade Center"s twin towers. The retelling of the crew"s plan to set up safe passage for Petit under the cover of night is as suspenseful as the high-wire act itself.

Appreciating Russell Westbook/Cameron Payne dance-offs, one last time

Russell Westbrook Does ‘Juju on That Beat’ Pregame Dance w/ Cameron Payne Before 17th Triple-Double

Its over. Done. Kaput. Finished. Cameron Payne has been traded to the Bulls during the NBA trade deadline, putting an end to one of the best things in the league: russ and payne dance duets.

its sad for all of us as fans, but spare a thought for Russell Westbrook. The poor dude is only now getting over the loss of Kevin Durant, now hes going to have to keep playing without his buddy. Its just so sad.

We only had two years to appreciate this and it was snatched away by a trades cruel grasp. We will never forget you.

NEW ORLEANS -- The Houston Rockets traded forward K.J. McDaniels to the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday just before the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline in a move, according to a source, to add salary-cap space.

The Rockets also traded Tyler Ennis to the Lakers in exchange for fellow guard Marcelo Huertas. Houston is expected to waive Huertas.

The trades will give the Rockets $3.5 million in cap space, which a source said they will use in an attempt to sign players who have been bought out.

The Nets also waived guard Marcus Thornton, acquired Wednesday in their trade with Washington.

McDaniels, who"s 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, just couldn"t get into coach Mike D"Antoni"s rotation and played 212 minutes in 29 games. At the start of the season, D"Antoni wanted McDaniels to become a wing defender, but he struggled and fell behind Corey Brewer and Sam Dekker at small forward off the bench.

Last month, McDaniels was almost traded to Cleveland for Mike Dunleavy Jr., but the Rockets pulled out of the deal. Instead, Dunleavy was eventually traded to the Atlanta Hawks for Kyle Korver.

McDaniels said at the time he understood the business of the NBA, and despite limited playing time, his goal is "to remain ready."

In the summer of 2015, McDaniels signed a three-year, $10 million contract as a restricted free agent with the Rockets. The objective was for McDaniels to get significant playing time, but that never occurred.

Sage Elsesser Is the Most Stylish Skater Turned Supreme Model You Don"t KnowYet

I SPENT $2,000 ON SUPREME! S/S17 WEEK 1 PICKUPS

Sage Elsesser isn"t famous, but he"s popular among the right kinds of people, a group that includes the likes of James Jebbia (founder of Supreme), Jason Dill (skateboarding legend/style icon), and even Frank Ocean (no explanation required). Elsesser is known to this ahead-of-the-curve set as a gifted professional skateboarder, Supreme"s go-to lookbook model (a position secured thanks to his skateboarding skills), Earl Sweatshirt"s roommate, and "Frank Ocean"s collaborator," even if it"s a mischaracterization (Elsesser"s voice appears on the last song of Ocean"s 2016 album, Blonde). He"s also just a 20-year-old college student who, on the day of our shoot, was skipping class at the Pratt Institute, where he"s studying fine art.

Elsesser checks all the requisite boxes of a cool kid who would have the inside track on the freshest streetwear, sneakers, and, fittingly, all things Supreme. But he"s also refreshingly unaware of the industry he"s increasingly considered to be part of. If anything, he"s just an influential outsider; the kind of guy who rocks a tucked-in T-shirt and Dickies pants for years before the same styles start popping up in lookbooks and on big-name designer runways. There"s a reason the fashion world has turned its attention to skateboarding for inspiration of late, and it"s hard to ignore a guy like Elsesser and his ilk as a crucial part of that attraction.

You could dismiss that fact if Elsesser"s personal style weren"t in lockstep with how a lot of guys want to dress today. It"s evident in the photos you see herein his artfully baggy sweats, his logo-heavy Gucci scarf, and those minimally stylish new Converse One Star Court Classic Pro sneakers that feature a premium leather upper (washed suede on the navy blue pair) and hardly any Converse branding. We spoke with the soon-to-be-everywhere Sage Elsesser about the new kicks he helped design, how he got so stylish, and what he thinks about his employer"s high-profile collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Are you sick of people saying you contributed to Frank Ocean"s album? Yeah, like, guys asking me, "So explain what having credits on Frank Ocean"s album is like?" Like, I didn"t do anything. Like, sure, I"m down, I"m a Frank Ocean collaborator. One time I told someone I wrote "Solo." I told them I wrote that for him, and they were like, "Wow! No way!"

What do you think of the Supreme x Louis Vuitton collaboration? It"s cool, f**k yeah, Louis Vuitton. It"s another cool collaboration for Supreme, but I just don"t really care. There"s gonna be another one next year kids are gonna flip on.

How does it feel to replace [legendary skateboarder and style icon] jason dill as supreme"s official lookbook model? It"s really cool. It happened really quickly. I remember Dill telling me, "Man, I"m gonna be too old soon, and they"re gonna ask you to be the model." I didn"t believe him. Now I"ve done, like, four of them, so it"s kind of like, "When is it gonna stop?"

In a recent interview with Earl Sweatshirt, you reference how your style changed when you moved to New York. How would you describe your style now? Yeah, he said something like, "expensive roadman." I guess that just came from traveling and seeing different places like Paris, London. It"s cool, but I"m all about comfort. I skate for Converse, but I"m not wearing Chuck Taylors all the time. I was able to differentiate my on-board style from my regular style.

How do you dress differently when you"re skating? I don"t like to wear shorts if I"m skating. I have kind of expensive taste. I wouldn"t wear

The Gucci scarf you have on, for instance. I actually got this on sale. [laughs]

If you know you"re being filmed that day while skating, will you step your style up a little bit for the cameras? I"m always conscious of what I"m wearing. It"s just like how a basketball player doesn"t wear a jersey and basketball sneakers all the time. You sweat, you bleed, so you kind of always need to change your clothes.

How do you feel about how skate style has recently become so popular in fashion? I just think it"s corny. It just looks dumb, but it"s also cool that, like, Forever 21 is making Trasher, Paradis, and f*****g Awesome tees. Like, they want to be on our s**t. But I also just see so many kids dressed like Sean Pablo now.

Like Dickies and Chuck Taylors, tucked in... Yeah, like that"s my friend. I know him so well. That"s a normal look now. And Sean looks good. If that helps kids dress better, so be it. I just thought it was funny, because it"s something so simple as, like, tucking in your T-shirt. I see rappers trying it out, like A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, and thinking, "Wow, they"re looking at us." But as far as fashion, it"s just their inspiration. Every designer uses inspiration, whether it"s Supreme, FA [f*****g Awesome], it all comes from inspiration.

Is it okay to wear skate style if you don"t skate? I don"t give it too much attention. Let Selena Gomez wear a Thrasher shirt, it"s popular. Bieber wears FA. People shop at Supreme, like, it"s just popular.

Jonah Hill? Jonah Hill is cool. I"ve met him before, too. I think he"s a little mixed-up, though, wearing like a Palace hoodie with a Supreme hat and Yeezy Boosts. Get it together, Jonah.

Let"s talk about your Converse collaboration. How did you end up with this design? I didn"t really design it, I just thought it was a shoe that was really important to the aesthetic of Converse. It"s a classic shoe. I"ve thought recently the direction of Converse has been really Nike-influenced, with the newest technology and breathable fabric and all that bullshit. I just wanted to make a shoe you f*****g put on your feet, tie the laces, and do what you do. I wanted just a basic shoe. It"s just an old tennis shoe. And I know that"s really popular with things like the Stan Smith.

Where did you first see the style? I was in Japan. And I found the leather we used on a different Converse shoe.

Do you go through shoes really quickly because you skate so much? But that"s just skating. I saw this pair of shoes at Barneys that had, like, duct tape and were like $600.

Golden Goose? Yeah. f**k Golden Goose.

Draft Bernie Sanders movement invites Keith Ellison to join new party push

Keith Ellison Absolutely FLOPS at CNN"s Debate for Next DNC Chair

A group pushing Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont to launch a new party wants rep. keith ellison of minnesota to sign onto the effort.

Following a CNN debate between the candidates running to lead the Democratic National Committee, the Draft Bernie for a People"s Party said the forum underscored how Mr. Ellison is wasting his time trying remake the Democratic Party.

We invite Keith Ellison to join Bernie Sanders in founding a new peoples party, where we can genuinely express our progressivism without the constraints of the Democratic Partys billionaire donors, the group said.

Due to the way the Democratic Party is organized, whomever is elected chair will have to report to the superdelegates and billionaires, they said.

Mr. Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats, is backing Mr. Ellisons quest for the top post at the DNC, which many progressives believe rigged the 2016 primary process in favor of Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Ellison and former Labor Secretary Tom Perez are viewed as the top contenders in the race though South Carolina Democratic Chair Jaime Harrison and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Peter Buttigieg maintain they have paths to victory in the multi-ballot vote, which is set for Saturday in Atlanta.

In a statement, the Draft Bernie folks said the field of contenders in the debate missed the chance to connect with working class voters and failed to make a clean break from the political and economic establishment that has impoverished our country.

Its not about finding an honest enough person to make party chair, its about an institutional structure that forces even well-intentioned people to capitulate to the ruling orthodoxy, they said.

They pointed out that most of the contenders have refused to rally behind bans against large contributions from deep-pocketed donors, super PACs, and lobbyists.

The retreats with billionaires and backroom deals that have characterized the DNC chairs race harken back to the days of Tammany Hall and are a far cry from the proud political revolution that Sen. Sanders ignited last year, the group said.

Mr. Sanders, meanwhile, has said that right now he is working to steer the Democratic Party in a more progressive direction.

He has refused to rule out running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and has yet to shoot down those calling on him to launch a new party.
