What Has Charo Been Up To? "Dancing With The Stars" Welcomes A Dance Pro

Charo and Keo"s Salsa - Dancing with the Stars

Sometimes the star part of Dancing With the Stars isnt entirely true as it might have been decades before their stint on the dancing competition show. But when you have a household name like Charo, you never really forget her. But what has Charo been up to? Dancing With the Stars is going to be another opportunity for the natural performer to show her skills on a dance floor and apparently, shes never really stopped.

Although shes known for her dancing and guitar talents, Charo is also someone who seems to elicit laughs anywhere she goes and in the past few years long before DWTS asked her to join them for Season 24 she was still putting her humor and talent to good use. For a while, Charo had a Las Vegas show called Charo in Concert: A Musical Sensation and according to the website for the show, she promised for it to to be, Full of great music, dancing and lots of comedy. A real Las Vegas experience."

As the oldest contestant this season on DWTS, Charo, 66, is still as funny and deadpan as ever. During a break from rehearsals with partner Keo Motsepe, Charo told the New York Post, There are 600 muscles in the body and 200 bones, and let me put it this wayeach muscle was screaming at me, You b*tch! I have certain muscles I didnt even know I had. My neck was telling me, What are you doing to me?

gameshowawardsfan on YouTube

But before Charo was asked to compete for the Mirror Ball trophy, she was still making appearances on shows like Jane the Virgin and Dont Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 as herself. She also appeared on the Game Show Networks 2009 Game Show Awards in a schtick about her career and, as usual, she had the audience laughing. I can only hope she gets up to her usual antics as she competes on DWTS this season.

The best thing about Charo is that through the literal decades that shes been performing with her now-famous stage name (her real name is actually Mara del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martnez Molina Baez), shes never been afraid to be herself and has always been so unapologetically that way. On an episode of OWNs Where Are They Now, Charos adult son, Shel Rasten, spoke honestly about her and said that even if she can sometimes be embarrassing, shes also protective and very supportive to an incredible extent. charo responded with a few dance movies and said, I go, goodbye cuchi cuchi, have a good day in front of the children. Is it possible to love her any more?

There are some other experienced performers competing on Season 24 of DWTS, including Erika Jayne and Heather Morris, but neither of them also appeared on the show before. During Season 10 of DWTS, Charo showed up to help then-contestant Pamela Anderson with her flamenco dance routine. So obviously Charo is going to be some real competition, regardless of her age. In fact, she seems like the same fun-loving, hip-shaking performer she always was, so shes sure to go far.

The Duke basketball garden continues to grow

UNC Men"s Basketball: Carolina Falls to Duke in ACCT Semis

Durham, N.C. Mike Krzyzewski likes to work in the garden. Nothing extravagant, just something to ease the pressures of being the most successful coach in the history of college basketball.

Scratch around in the dirt, plant a seed and watch it grow.

In the beginning of each season, Krzyzewskis basketball garden consists of dirt, seeds, water and fertilizer. Mix it all together then see what happens.

Crops and basketball teams grow at different rates and some never reach full bloom.

There were times this season when it appeared that the Duke basketball garden wouldnt produce a bumper crop. Missing or bad ingredients stunted the growth process. Things like injuries to players, the Grayson Allen situations and the back surgery that kept Krzyzewski idle and out of his natural element.

With all of these issues, dukes january was really october in terms of basketball growth.

But Krzyzewski and his staff continued to work with their crop to pull out the weeds and nurture it. From the dirt, seeds, water and fertilizer the plants began to grow and strengthen. It showed potential of producing something bountiful in the future.

A split with North Carolina and a gritty win on senior day over Florida State was followed up by four incredible days in Brooklyn. Players talked about their lengthy trip in New York as a catalyst for team growth. Double-digit, second half comeback wins over Louisville and North Carolina set up a chance for an ACC championship, a first for Duke since 2011.

Freshman Jason Tatum and grad student Amile Jefferson echoed the same sentiment. It would be an honor to win a championship with this group.

Commitment fulfilled.

No team in ACC history had ever won four games in route to the championship and never has a No. 5 seed cut down the nets.

Standing at mid-court with Krzyzewski, I watched him try to answer questions about the journey of this season. The winningest coach in college basketball history and gold medal USA coach had nothing to compare this championship run to.

He just kept shaking his head from side to side, non-verbally punctuating the words he was trying to say. Im a little whacky right now, he said. Understood, because the feat was inexplicably amazing.

Look at the Duke garden now.

It is standing tall and yielding results. But the gardener and his staff are putting on the work gloves again. There is more labor to be done to try and squeeze even more growth and productivity from this crop.

Plant a team and watch it grow.

FBI"s James Comey says no evidence to back President Trump"s Obama wiretap claims

LIVE STREAM: FBI Director James Comey Testifies To Congress On Trump Wiretap Claim

FBI Director James Comey says the FBI and Justice Department have no information to substantiate President Donald Trump"s claims that former President Barack Obama wiretapped him before the election.

Comey says no individual can order surveillance of an American. He says courts grant this permission after a rigorous application process.

Comey was testifying before the House intelligence committee. Comey said the Justice Department also asked him to share with the committee that the answer also applies to the Justice Department and its various components. The Justice Department oversees the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.

Separately, Mike Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, is denying that the British intelligence community was ever asked to conduct electronic surveillance on President Donald Trump at the behest of former President Obama.

Earlier this month, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer referred to unsubstantiated allegations made by a Fox News analyst that GCHQ, the British electronic intelligence agency, had helped Obama wiretap Trump. The British intelligence agency flatly denied it happened.

The ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, asked Rogers if he thought it was "utterly ridiculous" that anyone in the U.S. would ask British spies to do surveillance on a presidential candidate. Rogers said it was and added that he had seen nothing at the NSA that would indicate that happened.

UNC 72, Arkansas 65: Thoughts on the day after

UNC Men"s Basketball: Arkansas Postgame PC

North Carolina is off to the NCAA tournament South Regional semifinals in Memphis after its 72-65 victory against Arkansas on Sunday night. Lots of stories, video and photos here:

-The quick and dirty game story, detailing UNC"s late rally.

-The story of how UNC survived in the maddening final minutes.

-From Luke DecCock, how Isaiah Hicks, one of UNC"s quietest, spoke up and everybody listened.

-Tons of fantastic photos from UNC"s victory right here.

-And if video is your thing, we"ve got you covered there, too. Roy Williams, Justin Jackson, Theo Pinson and Nate Britt all describe the victory.

Now for some day-after thoughts, notes, quotes

1. Somehow, UNC found a way.

The Tar Heels shot less than 40 percent from the field. Joel Berry and Justin Jackson went a combined 7-for-27 from the field. UNC trailed by five with three minutes remaining and, to that point, seemed completely out of sync. None of those problems, though, were anything that a game-ending, 12-0 run couldn"t fix. All the components were there for a stunning, season-ending defeat. And yet, as Theo Pinson put it afterward, We"re going to Memphis We"re going to Memphis. Arkansas right now is wondering how it ever lost that game. The Tar Heels won it, meanwhile, by rising in the moment with their season at stake. It was gut check time for us, Pinson said. That"s one way to put it.

2. But no, really, how did the Tar Heels win this game?

UNC hadn"t won an NCAA tournament game in which it shot less than 40 percent since 2007. In fairness, it hasn"t often experienced such miserable shooting in the NCAA tournament. Since 2007 it had only happened twice, before Sunday, that UNC shot less than 40 percent in the tournament. unc shot 30.1 percent against Kansas in the second round in 2013, and the Tar Heels shot 35.8 percent against Kansas in the 2008 national semifinals (what is it about Kansas?). The Tar Heels lost both of those games, and neither were particularly close. Jackson and Berry, meanwhile, labored through one of their worst collective shooting performances of the season, the Tar Heels turned it over 17 times and allowed 24 points off of those (most an opponent had scored all season off of turnovers) ... and yet UNC is advancing.

3. The Tar Heels hadn"t won a game like this all year.

One of the popular takeaways in the locker room, repeated by players over and over again, was how they hadn"t won a game like this all year, and how doing so on Sunday inspires belief that it can be done again. Roy Williams, in fact, emphasized that point during a timeout with less than four minutes remaining. This is what Williams said he told his team: We"ve got to be tough. It"s got to be with our brain and our heart, both. We"ve got to get stops and we"ve got to get shots. UNC did all of those things during its game-ending 12-0 run. The Tar Heels stopped Arkansas on six consecutive possessions, and UNC won the game with its execution at the other end, as well.

QUICK-HITTERS

-One of the biggest plays of the game: Kennedy Meeks" tip-in, off of Joel Berry"s miss high off the backboard, with 44 seconds remaining. Said Meeks: I think Joel showed a great deal of savvy for trying to get the ball to the goal, because he knew me and Isaiah would be on the offensive glass. I just so happened to be in the right position. Said Berry: It was a horrible shot on my part, but I just tried my best to get it up on the backboard and just so happened Kennedy was there to make up for it, so I"ve got to thank him for that.

-The mood in the locker room after: Id describe as a mx of joy and relief, and the whole feeling was one of giddy exhaling -- happiness and surprise and fear all rolled into one. Probably what many UNC fans felt when it was over. And yet there was also some empowerment, too, because UNC really hadnt won like this.

-Justin Jackson has now made more 3-pointers in a single season than any player in school history. He has 98 and counting. That"s three more than Shammond Williams, the previous record-holder, made during the 1996-97 season.

-Some of my favorite quotes from last night.

From Nate Britt: The last three minutes of that game, when I was on the bench, I think that"s the most nervous I"ve ever been in my life when it comes to basketball.

From Isaiah Hicks: I was just thinking to myself, this can"t be it.

From Joel Berry: Sometimes you get a little lucky in the tournament. And it"s March Madness, that"s what it"s all about.

-Kennedy Meeks, meanwhile, finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds his 12th double-double of the season, and 24th during his four years at UNC. Meeks also now has 1,000 rebounds, exactly. He"s the ninth UNC player to achieve that milestone.

-Ended my main story last night with this little scene in the locker room between Isaiah Hicks and Kenny Williams, but it bears some repeating here, again. The scene: Hicks and Williams, sitting a couple of seats apart in the locker room. Hicks trying to comfort Williams.

You can breathe now, Kenny, Hicks said

No I can"t, Williams said.

Why? Hicks asked.

We"ve got four more games, Williams said.

-A quick note about Greenville: It was a fantastic host city. Extremely walkable. Lots to see and do and eat downtown, and the people here embraced having the tournament. It was a big deal here, a departure from the vibe the week before in New York City, where no one really knew the ACC tournament was happening. There, college basketball felt overshadowed. Here, it felt like it belonged.

Bam vs. Shaq

Wichita States Shaq Morris enjoyed his 28 minutes, most of them spent jostling with Kentucky freshman Bam Adebayo, 6-foot-10 and 260 pounds.

Morris picked up three fouls, a small price to pay for his performance and the feeling of freedom.

First time Ive went against somebody where we could actually bang against each other, Morris said. Hes a great player and the refs let us be physical.

Adebayo scored 13 points, 11 in the second half, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Morris scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Break down the zone

Kentucky guard DeAaron Fox is blazing fast and he turned on the jets for big baskets twice in the second half.

The Shockers cut the lead to 61-58 on a three by Zach Brown and switched to a zone defense. Fox drove past Landry Shamet while Morris had his back turned while guarding Adebayo and lobbied for a three-second call for a dunk.

I think they got in the 1-3-1, some type of defense, Fox said. I saw nobody behind my defender. Most of the time, Im not looking at the guy guarding me. When I saw there was nobody there and I had a clear lane, I just took it.

Earlier, Fox gave Kentucky a 58-51 lead when he jumped into the passing lane for a steal and sped in for a dunk.

Hes an NBA guard, Shamet said. Theyve got a couple of them. Hes pretty versatile. Played him more as a driver, so you kind of knew when he wanted to get to the rim and play off the dribble.

Establish limits for Wildcats

Wichita State held Kentucky to its lowest point total of the season.

The Wildcats made 23 shots, matching five other games.

That is good enough defense to win against a team with three players (Adebayo, Fox and Malik Monk) projected as first-round NBA Draft picks.

The game plan was just to stay in front, WSU forward Markis McDuffie said. They were going to be very aggressive each play. That is why a lot of people were tired. They were going at us every play.

Slow start stings

Wichita State survived poor shooting in the first half to trail 26-24.

The Shockers missed 23 of their 33 shots and eight of their 11 three-pointers. They hadnt played a team with elite athletic ability since November and it showed.

While Kentucky offered up more open shots than Dayton on Friday, it bothered the Shockers with its length. The Wildcats blocked two shots in the first half and altered many others by forcing the Shockers into awkward shots.

I wish we could have started better, Wichita State forward Rashard Kelly said. We didnt stick to our usual routine from the very beginning and play within ourselves. We made the game bigger than it was.

Morris carried them with eight points and five rebounds in the first half. He fouled once, which allowed him to play 11 minutes. WSU made him the focus of the offense in the opening minutes and the Wildcats double-teamed him to take the ball out of his hands.

Reaves will undergo surgery

WSU freshman guard Austin Reaves will undergo surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder now that the season is complete, he said.

Dislocations sidelined him three times this season. He missed two games in late January and early February after dislocating the shoulder.

He missed a game in late November after dislocating the shoulder against Michigan State. He returned eight days later to play at Colorado State. He also injured the shoulder during fall practices, limiting his workouts for around a week.

Reaves, from Newark, Ark., had his right shoulder repaired late in his sophomore year in high school. The right shoulder dislocated for the first time during his sophomore season in high school when an opponent landed on him during a chase for a loose ball.

Reaves had surgery to repair the labrums in both shoulders in the past four years. Last March, he underwent surgery on the left shoulder. That recovery kept him from practicing and lifting weights most of the summer.

Worth noting

Wichita State is 18-15 in 14 NCAA Tournament appearances. Kentucky is 123-49 in its 56 NCAA appearances (No. 57, in 1988, was vacated). Sundays game marked the second time for 30-win teams to meet during the NCAA Tournaments first weekend. In 2008, Tennessee (30-4) defeated Butler (30-3) in the second round. Sunday night, Cincinnati-UCLA marked the third time for 30-win teams to meet. The Wildcats lead the series 2-0, both meetings in NCAA play. Actress and Kentucky fan Ashley Judd sat near the court opposite the Kentucky bench. Brown made 2 of 3 three-pointers and went 5 for 6 in two NCAA games. The Shockers made 14 of 44 threes (31.8 percent) in the two games, far below its season mark of 40.8 percent.
