Two adults were shot and killed at a California elementary school Monday in what police believe to be a murder-suicide and two students were rushed to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. local time at the North Park Elementary school in San Bernardino.

"Two adults are deceased in a classroom, believed to be a murder suicide," San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan posted on Twitter. "We believe the suspect is down and there"s no further threat."

Burguan added that two studentshave been transportedto a hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

One of the victims is believed to be a teacher and responders are on scene, Maria Garcia, communications officer at San Bernardino Unified School District, told Fox News.

The school is on lockdown along with two others: Hillside Elementary School and Cajon High School.

Garcia told the San Bernardino Sun that school officials believe the situation is contained.

All other students were safe and were being taken to Cajon High School, where parents or guardians could pick them up, she said. Students gathered on a field and a blacktop basketball court inside the fenced-in grounds of the campus near a line of school buses.

The school has about 600 students in kindergarten through sixth grades.

Marina Ramos told news station KABC-TV that she rushed to the school to try to pick up her grandson after she heard about the shooting. She said she spoke to him, and he told her he was safe but was upset.

"He was crying. He"s scared," she said. "It was a typical morning and then chaos broke out."

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that the San Bernardino Police Department is the lead agency responding to and investigating the shooting. The ATF"s Los Angeles division has also lent assets to San Bernardino police and the FBI has offered its assistance, the sources added.

The city of 216,000 was the site of the December 2015 terror attack that killed 14 people and wounded 22 others at a meeting of san bernardino county employees. Husband-and-wife shooters Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were killed in a gunbattle with authorities later that day.

The city is known for its high rates of violent crime, especially homicides, and has struggled to emerge from bankruptcy.

Director James Gunn was asked during a Facebook Live why his brother, Sean Gunn, is used as a "stand-in" for Rocket instead of Cooper.

"Sean Gunn is not a stand-in," he said (via Heroic Hollywood). "He is a motion reference actor. That means we film everything Sean does on set as Rocket. We film it.

"I don"t stop doing takes of him until we get the performance right and then we use that performance as a basis for much of Rocket"s acting.

"And he does a fantastic job in that role. He knows it. He understands it. And also very important Sean is able to physically do something most actors aren"t able to do, which is waddle around on all fours.

"He"s always been an incredibly limber guy that can do a lot of strange physical things. And the fact that he"s able to waddle around on his legs all day long at the exact height of Rocket is quite a feat and quite difficult."

Sean Gunn doesn"t only play Rocket in the films. He will also reprise his role as the Ravagers member Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell will also feature in the movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be released on April 28 in the UK and May 5 in the US.

Dollar strengthens as North Korea, Syria tensions loom

The dollar strengthened on Monday, benefiting from a rush to safety as investors worried about a tightening presidential race in France and simmering geopolitical tensions between the U.S., Syria and North Korea.

One euro EURUSD, +0.1228% bought $1.0578 in recent trade, its weakest level against the greenback in more than a month. By comparison, it traded at $1.0591 late Friday in New York. The ICE U.S. Dollar index DXY, -0.26% a measure of the bucks strength against a basket of rivals, traded up 0.1% at 101.2700. One dollar USDJPY, -0.14% traded for 111.35, compared with 111.10 late Friday. One pound GBPUSD, +0.2584% traded at $1.2401, compared with $1.2373 late Friday.

A poll released over the weekend showed far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon virtually neck-and-neck with embattled Republican candidate Franois Fillon, transforming Frances presidential contest into a four-way race less than two weeks before the first round of voting. European stocks tumbled on the news and the yield spread between French and German 10-year bonds touched its widest level since February.

Last week, President Donald Trump launched 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian air base in retaliation for a chemical weapons attacked that killed more than 100 civilians. Now, investors are wondering if the U.S. might consider a similar strike against north korea in an attempt to check its nuclear ambitions. Over the weekend, the U.S. rerouted an aircraft carrier and several other warships to the Korean Peninsula in a show of force.

Simmering geopolitical tensions tend to benefit the greenback as investors seek safety by moving their money to the most stable G-10 markets, said Joe Manimbo, senior market analyst at Western Union Business Solutions.

The current themes out there are generally dollar-positive, Manimbo said. I would suspect with the Easter holidays approaching investors are likely to stay close to safe haven plays.

Investors are looking ahead to remarks from Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen, who is set to speak publicly at 4 p.m. Theyll be looking to hear more about the Feds plans for unwinding its $4.5 trillion balance sheet after New York Fed President William Dudley on Friday reiterated his view that the central bank will briefly suspend its plans for raising interest rates when it begins trimming its holdings later this year.

Beyond that, the next big events for markets arent expected until later in the week, when a series of economic reports will provide insight into the strength of the American consumer. Those reports are the University of Michigans consumer-sentiment survey, expected Thursday, and the U.S. Census Bureaus latest reading on retail sales, expected Friday.

In the emerging-market space, the South African rand slid to its weakest level against the dollar in three months as the currency continued to suffer after Fitch and Standard & Poors cut the countrys credit rating into junk territory last week. One dollar USDZAR, +1.0401% bought 13.88 rand, compared with 13.77 rand late Friday.
