San Bernardino Airport gets first international commercial flights, to ...

Parents and children recount horror of San Bernardino school shooting

SAN BERNARDINO >> For the first time since it was decommissioned as a military airport more than 20 years ago, san bernardino international airport is selling tickets for international commercial flights.

Volaris, an ultra-low cost Mexican carrier, announced Monday that tickets are available for flights to and from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Starting June 29, the flights will be Mondays and Thursdays, starting at $99 including taxes one way, according to Volaris.

One set of flights will depart from Guadalajara at 3:41 p.m. and arrive in San Bernardino at 5 p.m.

A second set will depart from San Bernardino at 6:15 p.m. and arrive in Guadalajara at 11:25 p.m.

The announcement was one of two new routes Volaris announced Monday, along with twice-weekly flights between Oaxaca and Los Angeles.

The launch of these new routes strengthens our presence in the Greater Los Angeles Area and provides our customers with additional options for visiting relatives, business travel and leisure, said Holger Blankenstein, chief commercial officer of Volaris, in a news release. We strive to combine affordable fares with routes that previously featured no scheduled air service. These additions help us achieve our goal of increasing connectivity between Mexico and the U.S.

In 2014, Volaris announced that it would fly between Ontario International Airport and Guadalajara, putting it in competition with AeroMexicos flights to the same destination.

Those flights are still listed on the Volaris website as being available for $99.

While commercial flights have been an elusive goal, San Bernardino has seen substantial increases in other areas in recent years.

Airport officials say the number of aircraft operating daily doubled from 2013 to 2016 to 48,000 and so far this year is 20 percent above that.

White House: Barrel bomb could lead to US strike

Syrian regime Barrel Bomb Being Dropped

The White House on Monday appeared to shift its position on what could draw a U.S. military response in the Syrian conflict as press secretary Sean Spicer warned that chemical or barrel bomb attacks on civilians could draw fire from the Trump administration.

If you gas a baby, if you put a barrel bomb into innocent people, I think you will see a response from this president, Spicer told reporters.

Trump ordered a military attack on a Syrian airfield last week after a chemical weapons attack killed dozens of civilians. The Syrian government is believed to have been behind the chemical weapons attack.

The use of barrel bombs have been comparatively more common in the Syria fight.

One watchdog, the Syrian Network for Human Rights, reported that 13,000 barrel bombs were dropped in the country in 2016, killing hundreds of people. The bombs are seen as targeting civilians because they hit an indiscriminate area.

The barrel bomb attacks have won widespread criticism from U.S. lawmakers such as Sen. John McCainJohn McCain"Tax March" protesters pressure Republicans who called for Trump tax returns Ginsburg refers to Graham as one of "the women of the Senate" Trump approves Montenegro"s NATO membership MORE (R-Ariz.) who have urged a more forceful response to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

McCain has called for setting up a safe zone in Syria that might protect civilians from chemical and more conventional weapons.

Assad"s forces have also been known to drop barrel bombs containing chemical agents. One such attack is believed to have occurred earlier thismonth.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Nikki Haley, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations, in separate interviews have said President Trump is concerned about the loss of civilian life in Syria regardless of the weapons. But they stopped short of suggesting the use of barrel bombs would definitively draw a response.

Tillerson, in a response to a question from CBS"s John Dickerson on "Face the Nation" that specifically raised barrel bombs, said that by using such weapons Assad would be undermining his own legitimacy.

Warriors writer: LeBron James, Russell Westbrook have "disdain" toward Stephen Curry

Russell Westbrook EPIC 42nd Triple-Double vs Nuggets (2017.04.09) - 50 Pts, 16 Reb, 10 Ast, DAGGER!

Marcus Thompson is a columnist for the Bay Area News Group, which provides him with plenty of insight into the Golden State Warriors. He wrote a book, released Tuesday, titled"Golden: The Miraculous Rise of Steph Curry."

Curry exploded onto the scene in recent years, winning back-to-back MVP awards, including the first ever unanimous decision. He"s been mostly adored by the media, and this has upset many big players in the NBA, according to Thompson.

The columnist appeared on "The Big Lead" radio show over the weekend and explained why players such as lebron james and russell westbrook don"t like Curry.

"I think if you ask them and they"re being honest, they don"t like all the hype he gets, and they have to direct it that way. I think, out of all of them, if somebody doesn"tlikeSteph Curry, I think it"s probably Westbrook. He just shows no sign of ... this ain"t really about Steph, it"s bigger. His seems to be, "I don"t like that dude." But LeBron and them, I think they will say, "Man, I like Steph. We can have a conversation." But there"s something thatburnsthem about the fact that Steph is the one that isexalted and because of that they want to go at him and demean his hype. They want to take him down."

Thompson brought up a key moment in last year"s NBA Finals when James blocked Curry"s shot in Game 6. After blocking it, James turned back and trash-talked Curry. Thompson noted you "never see him do that against anybody else." He says part of what feeds into that is players want to "go the extra mile to disprove [Curry"s] hype."

Thompson also brought up the history Curry and James have, dating back to the guard"s college days at Davidson. He discussed how James would show up to Curry"s games and would essentionally act as a "mentor" towards the younger player.

But as the two players" NBA careers reached their prime, Thompson says they quit being buddy-buddy, and a rivalry evolved.

"He was a big fan of Curry, he would go to Curry"s games at Davidson, and even when theygot to the NBA, they had moments where LeBron was looking at him like, wow and then Steph kind of like challenged LeBrons status. The part thats odd for Steph why does that mean there has to be some beef between us? He loves LeBron, he respects LeBron, and hes like, because the outside world is pitting us together, why do you and I have to now have this disdain between us, I thought we were cool? Thats the question thats in Currys mind and Currys camp: Why do you not like me when all I did was basically respect everything you did, and kind of follow the model you carried out? So there"s an interesting dynamic there, and its not just with LeBron, Steph wants to be accepted by all these guys. This is what he worked for. For youto say, you"reone of us. Itseems like they dont want to give that to him. Not yet anyway."

Thompson goes more in depth, but explains that Curry"s sudden rise was a big factor into other players not liking him, and that the guard is genuinely upset by it. In addition to James and Westbrook, Thompson says Chris Paul is another player upset by Curry"s rise. He also says Hall-of-Famers have taken notice by his sudden stardom and can"t believe how much respect he"s earned.

Nancy Kerrigan Opens Up About Her Miscarriages On "Dancing With The Stars" & Delivers A Powerful Message

Nancy Kerrigan Attack - Raw Footage and Interviews - January 6, 1994

Since the Season 24 premiere, Nancy Kerrigan has clearly been working hard and working through whatever insecurities she has as a performer, but it was during Week 4"s Most Memorable Year"-themed night when she really showed her true and vulnerable self by revealing one of the most difficult times of her life. Nancy Kerrigan opened up about her miscarriages on Dancing With the Stars, and it gave viewers a little bit of insight into her life beyond ice skating and beyond her place on DWTS now. It also delivered a powerful message about the very real loss and the physical and mental toll that going through a miscarriage takes on women.

Its been years since the figure skater competed in the Olympics, but Nancy is still remembered for her athletic skills, and also for being attacked after a practice session back in 1994. Despite the famous attack on her knee caps, Nancy has managed to come back with a vengeance and has opened up so much on DWTS already. While she could have picked her most memorable year as the one she competed in the Olympics or recovered from her injury, she instead listed when she finally had her first child, Matthew, in 1997.

But despite having her son, it wasnt easy for Nancy to have her next two children and not only did she talk about it on DWTS, but she danced through it in fluid, smooth movements where you could actually feel her emotions. Nancy gave birth to her son Matthew in 1997, but after that, she had six miscarriages over the course of eight years. During rehearsals with pro partner Artem, she opened up about how she eventually turned to in vitro fertilization.

Just being able to talk about her miscarriages on DWTS was obviously hard for nancy to do, but the way she opened up about them and talked about becoming a mom showed the reality of what so many women go through, but may find it hard to talk about themselves. Judge Carrie Ann said that Nancy always has that incredible vulnerability, but this performance enabled Nancy to also show an incredible courage.

During a week when all of the stories the stars tell are emotional, Nancys own story on DWTS was not only brave, but an important story to tell. Her emotions came across in her performance, too, earning her a 33 out of 40 for Week 4. Nancy said on DWTS that shed always had a dream in her mind of having a certain number of children and the seemingly perfect family, but the reality of it is that it rarely goes as planned for any parents. But Nancy never gave up on seeing her family grow and now she has three beautiful children.

Nancys story helped her to work through the real pain she no doubt still feels even all these years later and brought to light some of the struggles of getting pregnant that women face each and every day. But just in doing so, it brought out an obvious strength and empowerment in the former figure skater that viewers may not have seen before.

United Airlines Caused Outrage by Ejecting a PassengerAnd Its Stock Went Up

United airlines news | Southwest airlines | United airlines stock

United Airlines made all the wrong kinds of headlines Monday after forcibly ejecting a customer from an overbooked flight. Photos and videos of the bloodied passenger being dragged off the plane by security quickly circulated via social media, and soon enough, the company had a PR disaster on its hands.

But you wouldn"t have known that from looking at the stock market on Monday afternoon. Shares of United Continental Holdings closed up nearly 1% Monday, even as Twitter users threatened to boycott the company over its treatment of a customer. The rise wasn"t part of an overall market bump: The S&P 500 was basically flat for the day.

So why did investors deem united airlines to be what turned out to be $355 million more valuable, despite the negative news?

It"s not entirely true that investors didn"t care about the incident. United stock dipped as much as 2.5% in pre-market trading Monday, likely in reaction to video and news of the incident, which broke late Sunday. But some investors swooped in to buy on that dip, sending shares up in trading after the market opened. After all, many are expecting better financial results from United , especially given overall strength in travel and the wider economy. (The company will release first quarter 2017 earnings April 18.) Shares of the company have risen some 33% over the past year.

United released its March traffic figures Monday afternoon, reporting a 3% year-over-year increase in traffic for the month. That allowed United to give a more upbeat first quarter guidance of relatively flat unit revenue. But it also had trouble filling up all its seats, with its consolidated load factor falling 0.3 points to 81.3% in March compared to a year earlier.

There"s evidence to suggest that PR snafus like this weekend"s don"t have a long-term impact on the airline"s stock. An incident nearly two weeks earlier in which United Airlines asked two teenage girls to leave a flight for wearing leggings sparked a media fire storm, but had no effect on the company"s share price.

While a boycott would be bad for the company, it"s still too early to say whether one will materialize, and whether it would be effective if it did. Starbucks, for example, has weathered several boycott threats with no clear effectmost recently over a promise to hire some 10,000 refugees within five years.

Perhaps most important: After years of mergers and consolidation, customers don"t have as many options as they used to for domestic air travel. United is one of the "Big Four" airlines that now control about 70% of the U.S. market, and for some travelers in some regions, the carrier is their best or even only option, no matter what controversies may erupt.
