Steve Harvey's 'Celebrity Family Feud' opens with Braxtons vs. Andersons

CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD Anthony Anderson vs Toni Braxton and Monica Potter vs Curtis Stone The series premiere of Celebrity Family Feud will feature actor Anthony Andersons (black-ish) family vs. 7-time Grammy Award-winning artist Toni Braxton and her sisters. (ABC/Adam Taylor)TONI BRAXTON, STEVE HARVEY, ANTHONY ANDERSON

By RODNEY HO/ rho@ajc.com, originally filed Monday, June 22, 2015

Toni Braxton, who used to live in Atlanta, brought her sisters to battle Anthony Andersons family in the first episode of ABCs Celebrity Family Feud hosted by part-time Atlantan Steve Harvey.

Both families are playing for charity. The episodes were shot earlier this month in Los Angeles, although Harvey shoots the regular episodes here in Atlanta. And two of Braxtons sisters still live in Atlanta.

Despite a slow start from Toni, her family lifted her up and even she got a couple of answers right near the end. But credit Towanda and Tamar for getting enough right answers to win Fast Money and raise $25,000 for Lupus LA (since Toni has lupus.)

Sorry to say this but $25,000 seems awfully chintzy for a broadcast network giving out money for charity. Im just sayin. Wheres Donald Trump when you need him? (Oh wait, we know that)

Things got down and dirty quickly from the first question: Name something a n**e magician might pull a rabbit out of.

Anderson: His a**!

Toni was so flummoxed, she didnt have an answer.

His mom Doris then said nuts.

This show is going to h**l, Harvey said. Indeed, that garnered a big fat X.

Later , Anderson said you can be n***d and wear a hat. Ive done it! That was the No. 1 answer.

The Braxtons had a chance to steal but Toni botched it by blurting out foot without getting proper feedback from her sisters. That wasnt on the list. Points went to the Andersons.

Question No. 2 with Tamar vs. Doris: Name something the wife would not like to see the ex-husband buy after the divorce.

Tamar got the No. 1 answer with car.

Trina, who just got divorced, said emphatically, a ring for another woman. That was the No. 2 answer.

Toni uttered, a new woman. Shockingly, this was up there as a mail order bride.

The sisters almost cleared the board with six out of seven answers. Harvey laughed after Trina gave a bad answer (a car seat) and the sisters were not supportive. The tradition: Family Feud members are supposed to clap and say good answer! no matter how terrible the utterance.

Ultimately, Andersons answer motorcyle was rejected. The missing answer was a street w***e.

The Braxtons move ahead 93 to 88.

Question 3: Top 7 answers on the board. To 100 men: Name an animal more well endowed than you?

Trina: Elephant. Amazingly, just 13 people answered that. But it was No. 2 and Trina won after Derricks gorilla was a big fat zero.

Towanda confidently gave the No. 1 answer horse. Tracis giraffe got an X.

Toni tried hippo and received zip. Tamar said dog, and her sisters were skeptical. It came in No. 3 and Tamar was vindicated. What the world is coming to? Traci said.

Trinas bull came in No. 6. Towanda opted for walrus. It has the biggest p***s. I looked it up! But it didnt make the cut.

Anderson went for donkey and they won the points. The missing answers: whale and lion.

The Andersons had a lead. But the last round typically can win the day.

Triple points: Name a job just because they arent good looking enough.

Towandas answer: Model was No. 1.

Traci goes for stripper. That was No. 4.

Toni (uh oh) picks news anchor. Surprise! No. 3.

Tamar says actress for the win. And the Braxtons clear the board!

Tamar and Towanda opt for fast money. Towanda was up first.

The fast money questions to 100 women.

After how dates do you start wearing sweats? Towandas answer: 6 (0)

What is something people look for on Craigs List? A car (26)

Name a pie that starts with the letter P. (37)

Name something a guy likes to do while watching the Super Bowl? Eat food. (36)

A place where you find an aisle. A kitchen. (0)

Three good answers, two bad ones. Not bad. 99 points.

Tamar ended up with two okay answers, no answer on one and two great answers to seal the victory.

That would be four dates (11 points. Best answer was 10), a job on Craigs list (10), nothing for pie, drinking beer for the Super Bowl (44) and the seal-the-deal answer of supermarket for aisle (57).

'Inside Out' Movie Reflects the Realities and Fantasies of Neuroscience

"Inside Out" is more than just the latest animated movie from Pixar the makers of "Toy Story," "Up," "Finding Nemo" and more. It's also a kid-friendly introduction to real-life neuroscience.

Eric Chudler, who's the executive director of the University of Washington's Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering as well as the creator of the "Neuroscience for Kids" website, thinks that's great: "Any type of portrayal of the brain in cartoons can get kids interested in how the brain works and what makes it tick," he said.

And "Inside Out" isn't just any portrayal: Berkeley psychologist Dacher Keltner, an expert on the science of emotions, was a consultant on the movie which portrays Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear and Disgust as colorful characters interacting inside the brain of an 11-year-old girl named Riley.

"I'm getting emails from all over the world," Keltner told NBC News. "What people are learning is that emotions have a purpose, that they change, and that we should embrace that."

"Inside Out" turns neuroscience inside-out: The choice of characters reflects the research of Keltner's mentor at Berkeley, Paul Ekman, who studies how emotions are expressed across different cultures. Ekman and his colleagues determined that humans possess a standard toolkit of facial expressions for six or seven emotions, regardless of their upbringing.

The filmmakers turned five of the emotions on Ekman's list into animated characters. Two others surprise and contempt were left out of the script for simplicity's sake. Who knows? Maybe they'll pop up in the sequel.

Flash Interactive: A Road Map to Your Brain

In the movie, the characters inside Riley's head support each other, or get in each other's way, just like the emotions in our own heads.

"It's nice to see that the different emotions are somewhat separate but talk to each other," Chudler told NBC News. "For example, there's no real 'anger center'; rather, different parts of the brain work together to make sense of the world and coordinate complex behavior."

Christof Koch, chief scientific officer at the Allen Institute for Brain Science in Seattle, said the inner workings of emotional responses are far less clear-cut in reality than they might seem in the movie. "This assumes that you have these five explicit conscious streams in front of you, but of course you don't have conscious access to those things," he told NBC News.

"We are strangers to ourselves, and in particular we are strangers to our own mind," Koch said. "We have all these emotions, but very often we have no idea why we have them."

It turns out that "Inside Out" came into being partly because Keltner and Pixar director Pete Docter who have been friends for a long time were intrigued by the mysterious ways of emotions in their own kids. "Our conversations are really a series of questions, and Pete asked, 'What are emotions like in a 12-year-old girl?'" Keltner recalled. "So we were thinking about how emotions shift."

The research suggests that kids in their pre-teens and early teens often experience a precipitous drop in happiness and a rise in anxiety. "It's like the world crashes down on them," Keltner said. The movie traces that shift, with tear-inducing as well as laugh-inducing effects.

Keltner likes how "Inside Out" shows Riley dealing with that shift. "You're not forever held hostage by your emotions," he observed. And he likes how the parents deal with it as well. "They embrace her change," Keltner said. "You have to embrace that because that's where kids have to go."

Getting a better understanding of how the brain works, and particularly how our own emotions work, would be a dream come true for adolescents and their parents and for neuroscientists as well.

For some hands-on experiments in brain science, check out Chudler's website, Neuroscience for Kids. One of Chudler's favorites is an exercise that helps you find your visual blind spot. You can read more about Keltner's perspective on the neuroscience of "Inside Out" in this Berkeley news release.

ELMIRA, N.Y. The search for two escaped convicts was focused Saturday on Friendship, N.Y., where officials said they were pursuing a "credible sighting" of the most-wanted fugitives.

Saturday afternoon, a witness spotted two men who fit the descriptions of David Sweat, 34, and Richard Matt, 48, who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility two weeks ago. The alleged sighting was along a railroad in Friendship near the New York-Pennsylvania border, New York State Police said in a statement.

Friendship is about 70 miles west of Corning and about 350 miles south of Dannemora, where the prison is located.

State Police, U.S. Marshals, officers from the Department of Environmental Conservation, State Parks Police, Allegany County Sheriff's Department and other local law enforcement were searching an area along Interstate 86 and Route 20 in Friendship, the news release said. Aviation, canine and special operation teams also were assisting.

Law enforcement officials were stopping vehicles at the Friendship/Bolivar exit on I-86.

The town of Friendship was closed while police searched, WGRZ -TV reported.

Sweat and Matt were discovered missing at the prison in Dannemora on June 7. Since then hundreds of police officers have been looking for them.

Police said the two used power tools to drill through a wall at Clinton. They worked their way to a tunnel that led to a manhole about a block from the prison.

Sweat was serving a life sentence without parole for killing a Broome County, N.Y., sheriff's deputy who had confronted him and others about a suspected 2002 burglary.

Matt was serving a 25-year-to-life sentence for murder, kidnapping and robbery of William Rickerson. Rickerson was Matt's boss at a food warehouse; around the time that Matt was fired, Rickerson's dismembered body was found floating in the Niagara River.

On June 13, witnesses spotted two men walking near a rail yard in Erwin, N.Y., New York State Police said late Friday. The next day, men who matched that description were seen walking along a road in Lindley, N.Y., heading toward the New York-Pennsylvania border.

New York State Police urged communities along the state border to be vigilant. People should call 911 if they see anything, police said.

Campbell resident Jim Austin said he heard about the sightings Saturday morning.

"I'll just be a little more attentive when walking, but I won't change the way I do life," Austin said.

The two men allegedly escaped with the help of Joyce "Tillie" Mitchell, who worked as a tailor shop instructor in the prison. She remained in custody Saturday and has pleaded not guilty.

Officials said Friday that a corrections officer also has been placed on administrative leave as part of the investigation into the escape. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said no additional information was available.

BART resumes normal service following Warriors parade

Related Coverage

OAKLAND (BCN) All BART stations are open and trains are making all stops this afternoon in the Bay Area following the Golden State Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland, according to BART officials.

BART officials reported the information at 2:27 p.m.

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said reports of station closures were false. BART never closed any stations but the agency closed some entrances to some stations, she said.

People thought a station was closed if they found a locked entrance, she said.

Patrons encountered a long line at the Fremont station this morning as they tried to get to the Warriors celebration in downtown Oakland and BART officials set up a table to help more people buy tickets.

The number of station entries was so high this morning that Trost said BART might set a ridership record today.

Ridership as of 2 p.m. was trending about 16,000 below the record. But the agency has yet to record the numbers from tonights commute and an Oakland As baseball game tonight.

BART officials wont know until tomorrow whether ridership set a record today, but it definitely will be one of the top, Trost said.

BART did not alter the routes of trains but directed celebrants to the Warriors event to use the Lake Merritt station if they were going south and either the 12th or 19th street stations if they were going north or west.

BART also changed the platform level on which people boarded at some stations.

Watch The Trailer For The Malala Yousafzai Documentary Film

Today, Fox Searchlight released the first trailer for 'He Named Me Malala,' a film documenting the life of activist Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize.(Photo : Fox Searchlight)

Last year, 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai became the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize for her courageous struggle and activism for the right for all children in her country, Pakistan, to receive an education.

Now, Yousafzai is the subject of a documentary, He Named Me Malala, being released by Fox Searchlight Films. Today, the film studio released a trailerfor that documentary by Davis Guggenheim, who also directed the Oscar winning film An Inconvenient Truthand the Waiting for Superman documentary.

The trailer begins with the tragic shooting of Yousafzai by the Taliban, who felt threatened by the message she sent on her blog in support of education, particularly the education of girls in her country. However, after recovering from her wounds, Yousafzai became a worldwide figure, and continued advocating for the rights of children.

The trailer also shows Yousafzai as a normal teenage girl as she spends time with her family and teases her brother. "I'm still a teenager," she says in the clip.

We also learn that Malala's father named his daughter after Malalai of Maiwand, a national folk hero of Afghanistan.

"My father only gave me the name Malala; he didn't make me Malala," says Yousafzai at the end of the trailer.

In October, 2014, Yousafzai received a Nobel Peace Prize for her continued activism. She also published a memoir I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban co-written by Christina Lamb. However, that many Pakistani private schools banned that book.

Pakistan's literacy rate for school-aged girls is only 61.5 percent, according to statistics provided by Unicef. The primary school enrollment rate is only around 83 percent for girls, with 100 percent of boys attending school. Secondary school participation rates are even lower with around 35 percent for boys and around 28 percent for girls. Yousafzi has spent much of her life advocating for better educational opportunities for both boys and girls in her country.

He Named Me Malalaopens in select theaters on October 2.

Jason Day Collapsed, and Golf Became an Afterthought at the U.S. Open

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA JUNE 19: Jason Day of Australia is tended to by caddie Colin Swatton as he lays on the ninth green after falling due to dizziness during the second round of the 115th U.S. Open Championship at Chambers Bay on June 19, 2015 in University Place, Washington. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

A very scary moment occurred on Friday at the U.S. Open as Jason Day collapsed just as he and playing partner Jordan Spieth were finishing up their final hole of Day 2.

At first, Day seemed to have fallen, perhaps slipped on the grass, but the longer he laid motionless (for almost ten full minutes), the crowd began to realize that something was wrong.

According to Golf Channel (via Days wife Ellie), dizziness has been an issue for Day for as far back as 2010, and he even had to withdraw from the AT&T AT&T Byron Nelson after noticing symptoms of dizziness during a practice round. Vertigo-like symptoms also kept him out of the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Bridgestone Invitational.

But on Friday, Day showed fans that he had quite a bit of fight in him. After he managed to stand and steady himself, he was able to manage a mid-range putt, a bogey to put him even-par 70. According to Brian Floyd and Brendan Porath of SBNation, it was the best bogey youll see this weekend.

Lindsey Graham on Charleston shooter: 'It's him...not the flag'

"We're not going to give this a guy an excuse about a book he might have read or a movie he watched or a song he listened to or a symbol out anywhere. It's him...not the flag," the Republican senator told CNN's "New Day" Alisyn Camerota,

One of the common photos of Roof circulated in the media is one of him seen posing by a car featuring a South Carolina license plate depicting the Confederate flag.

Watch Obama react to 14 mass U.S. shootings

When Graham was asked his thoughts regarding the Confederate flag, he said, "It works here, that's what the State House agreed to do. You could probably visit other places in the country near some symbol that doesn't quite strike you right."

Graham says he believes the current gun law procedure on background checks should be modified in such a way where people who do have some record of criminal activities or felonies cannot obtain guns.

SCOTUS: Texas can reject Confederate flag plate

After acknowledging approximately 40,000 people failed a background check and 9,000 of them were felons, Graham questioned as to how people are added to a background system that simply does not work for the American people. "The solutions to problems like this are probably not one law away," he added.

Graham said he believes the reason why people are able to obtain guns even with a criminal backgrounds are due to a lack of resources.

"If I get to be President of the United States, you fail a criminal background check, you try to buy a gun when you're not supposed to, you're going to meet the law head on," Graham said.

Fabian Gomez Wins His 1st Career PGA Tour Title at St. Jude

Winning the first PGA Tour title of his career at the St. Jude Classic isn't enough to earn Fabian Gomez a trip to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay.

Being fully exempt through the 2016-17 season is more than enough.

"Winning a tournament is a big thing because you have two-year exemption and after that probably play a little less stressful every week and not thinking too much 'Keep your card,' you know," Gomez said Sunday after winning the St. Jude Classic. "Just only win another tournament."

Gomez knows personally how tough it can be to keep that tour card. He was on tour in 2011 and 2013 before having to earn his card back for 2014-15 by playing on the Web.com Tour. Now the 36-year-old from Argentina has some breathing room now that he turned his piece of the lead after the third round into a four-stroke win that was the biggest at this event, sponsored by FedEx, since Brian Gay won by five in 2009.

"Even if I won many tournaments, winning here on the PGA Tour is something amazing, and I'm going to enjoy the moment with my family," Gomez said through a translator.

Gomez finished at 13-under 267 with four straight rounds in the 60s, including a 4-under 66 Sunday. He came into the final round sharing the 54-hole lead with Greg Owen of England, the second such lead of his career. Unlike the 2013 Puerto Rico Open where he finished tied with Jordan Spieth for second, Gomez carded a five birdie-one bogey round for his first PGA title in his 70th start.

That earned him a $1.08 million winner's check and a spot as the fifth PGA Tour winner from Argentina, joining Jose Coceres, Angel Cabrera, Andres Romero and Roberto De Vicenzo.

"That list for me is an honor, and we share many, many weeks with Andres, Angel," Gomez said. "When they play on the tour the same week with me, we share some barbecue. We had one last night, and I know that they are going to be happy for this situation right now."

Owen, who finished with a 70, said he just didn't play well enough to beat Gomez.

"I think he hit every fairway," Owen said. "You've got to hit the fairways out here. The flags are tucked. ... He just played solid. His distance control was good, and he was under control and couple of shots I couldn't match him."

Phil Mickelson remains winless since the 2013 British Open as he tied for third (65-272). He finished with a flourish, rolling in a 25-footer for birdie that nearly lipped out on No. 18. Mickelson finished tied with Seung-Yul Noh (65), Michael Thompson (66), Matt Jones (68) and Brooks Kopeka (70).

Boo Weekley (65), Billy Horschel (65), Russell Knox (66) and Chad Campbell (68) all tied for seventh at 273.

Mickelson used this event at TPC Southwind, sponsored by FedEx, to tune up his game for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in Washington. He carded eight birdies Sunday with three bogeys and says he got the confidence boost he wanted.

"I'm feeling a lot better about heading into the U.S. Open after this week than I did after last," Mickelson said.

This event belonged to Gomez who honed his game with tips from his mentor along with playing many rounds with Cabrera. He already had won twice on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in Buenos Aires in 2013 and 2014.

Here are Father's Day gifts for the man in midlife crisis

Fathers Day is almost upon us, and Dads are about to receive gifts from loved ones to celebrate the occasion. Most will accept them, grumble appreciatively and go back to their yard work, but for others, the day brings a bittersweet ambivalence.

These men, all of middle age, have a sinking feeling that their best years are behind them. That life is passing them by. In other words, theyre suffering from midlife crisis, and no necktie or pair of socks will lift this funk.

Such a man needs something to invigorate his spirit and telegraph to others that he is still possessed of all the virility and fecundity of Smokey and the Bandit-era Burt Reynolds. And it cant be something with a modest price tag, such as tickets to see Journey perform Dont Stop Believin on their current U.S. tour.

Here are some high-end products, services and experiences for that special someone going through that all-too-common time.

St. Louis Cardinals 3, Minnesota Twins 2 - same as night before

ST. LOUIS -- Barely halfway through June, the Twins must want this godforsaken month to end as soon as possible.

Tuesday's disappointment came in the form of a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at soggy Busch Stadium.

In an afternoon game marred by two rain delays totaling 92 minutes, the Twins fell by an identical score to the one from the night before.

"A couple of fairly well-played games here," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "St. Louis, we know, has a knack for finding a way to win those kinds of games."

The Cardinals, improving baseball's best record to 43-21, showed repeatedly how fundamentally sound they are in all facets. The Twins, falling to 4-11 for the month, had too many small breakdowns, mostly at the plate, and that added up to more frustration when facing the sport's best.

Against teams with losing records entering Tuesday, the Twins were a sterling 22-11. That computes to a winning percentage of .667.

Against winning teams, however, they have struggled to a 12-19 mark (.387). That includes a combined 5-13 mark against their two main division rivals, the Kansas City Royals (3-6) and Detroit Tigers (2-7).

The Twins also dropped a three-game series over the weekend on the road against the surging Texas Rangers at the start of this 1-4 road trip.

"It's more winning and losing for me, not so much who we're playing against," Molitor said. "If you look around, there's a lot of parity. There are not a lot of teams that are tearing it up other than (the Cardinals)."

Tuesday marked the 10th time in 15 June games the Twins had been held to two runs or fewer.

"We're being competitive still and not playing our best baseball," Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson said. "At some point the hard line drives aren't going to be right at people, the hard ground b***s are going to go through and before you know it we're going to rattle off five or six in a row."

Trevor Plouffe put the Twins on top with a two-out single off Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (9-2) in the first. That scored Brian Dozier, who singled and stole second.

Gibson (4-5) worked the first six innings and turned in his first quality start since May 24 at Chicago, but he wasn't able to make two key pitches when he needed them.

Yadier Molina opened the second with a double, moved up on a groundout and scored just ahead of Shane Robinson's throw on Randal Grichuk's sacrifice fly to left. Gibson got ahead of Grichuk with two quick strikes and was determined to keep the ball out of the air, but Grichuk delivered the required situational play.

Mark Reynolds added a two-run single with two outs in the third to make it 3-1. Jhonny Peralta moved up both runners just before Reynolds' hit with a productive groundout to first.

"They do execute," Molitor said. "They're pesky that way. They take advantage of run-scoring opportunities when they get them. We've had a couple of those where as of late we haven't been able to move guys up."

Gibson's two-out single in the fifth ended a run of 12 straight Twins set down by Wacha, who was pulled after 86 pitches when the second rain delay hit in the seventh. Kurt Suzuki greeted reliever Seth Maness with a run-scoring double to pull the Twins within one.

It was Suzuki's first extra-base hit since May 26, ending a drought of 54 at-bats.

A wild pitch moved Suzuki to third with one out, but pinch-hitters Eddie Rosario and Kennys Vargas failed to get the ball out of the infield.

Rookie Byron Buxton started the eighth with an infield single, his second hit in 10 big-league at-bats. Trying to move into scoring position, he was caught trying to steal second by perennial Gold Glove catcher Molina.

Torii Hunter singled to center on the next pitch, which likely would have tied the score had Buxton gotten a better jump.

Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal (arm tightness) was unavailable again, but left-hander Kevin Siegrist was able to record the save for a second straight day. Eduardo Nunez doubled off the base of the wall with one out in the ninth, but the Twins could not advance him.

In Music News: Lil Wayne Hasn't Signed to Roc Nation, Mykki Blanco Reveals ...

Calm down. Lil Wayne has not signed with Roc Nation. Over the weekend, the artist made a statement on stage at KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland, CA claiming he'd signed a deal with Jay Z. However, Cortez Byrant, Lil Wayne's manager, confirmed to Billboard this morning that Wayne was not referring to Roc Nation, but to TIDAL.

Lil Tunechi is now one of the co-owners in the extremely successful music streaming service. (Ahem.) Meanwhile, he continues to fight with his label, Cash Money, after suing them for $51 million in January. Tha Carter Vthe new Lil Wayne album that is supposedly complete and being held hostage by Cash Money co-founder Birdmanhas yet to see the light of day and has no expected release date. But hey, maybe Wayne will continue this streak of good-decision-making and start appearing on his girlfriend Christina Milian's reality show.

Late Friday evening, former rapper Mykki Blanco announced his HIV positive status on Facebook as Pride weekend kicked off.

The artist, who identifies as multi-gendered, announced back in March that he would be forgoing music in favor of investigative journalism in support of LGBTQ politics. (Although, Rolling Stone is now saying that a new album is in the works.) Although Blanco expressed hesitation about how the disclosure of his HIV status would be received by the music industry, he responded to a fan's comment and said, "I just cant [sic] be an image living in fear having people call me brave and it being a lie."

Although we're still awaiting news on that new album she mentioned, Janet Jackson has made good on her promise of a new world tour. The Unbreakable Tour will kick off in Vancouver on August 31. There's no Seattle date listed as yet, so I suggest you start making plans to cross the border. Tickets go on sale June 22.

On Friday evening, Dave Grohl fell off the stage in Gothenburg, Sweden while the Foo Fighters were performing "Monkey Wrench." According to Stereogum, the band continued to play a series of covers while Grohl received medical attention. He came back to play "The Pretender" and truly prove his commitment to rocking before he REALLY had to leave the stage, as one probably should when their bones are askew.

On that note, Happy Monday.

UFC 188 results recap: Charles Rosa vs Yair Rodriguez fight review and analysis

Last night (Sat., June 13, 2015), Charles Rosa and Yair Rodriguez went to war at UFC 188 inside Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico. In an excellent performance, Rodriguez came out on top in a close decision. Find out how below!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweights Charles Rosa and Yair Rodriguez slugged it out last night (June 13, 2015)at UFC 188 inside Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico.

After putting forth an impressive effort in a losing effort in his Octagon debut, Rosa came back with a vengeance to finish his next fight. Heading into this bout, Rosa was a legitimate prospect with top shelf potential.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez had a strong showing on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Latin America, finishing each of his opponents on the show and securing a decision win at the finale. At just 22 years old, Rodriguez was looking to prove that he was already a major player at featherweight.

Color me impressed.

Rodriguez opened the fight with some wild kicks and jumping knees, but Rosa used his wildness to secure a single leg takedown. However, it landed him in a deep triangle choke, which the TUF winnner squeezed with all his might. Rosa defended intelligently, pushing his opponent's neck into the fence and preventing him from getting the angle necessary for the finish.

Just moments after escaping the triangle, Rosa opened up with his ground strikes and moved into the back mount. While he failed to threaten with a choke, he did land some nice ground strikes before the fight moved back to their feet. The men began to exchange, but the exciting round came to an end soon after.

While Rosa's top control likely won him the round, both men definitely had their moments.

Rodriguez's offense clearly took its toll on Rosa, who was very tired to start the second round. Rosa pushed forward regardless, but Rodriguez circled around him and touched him up with hard kicks and punches. In addition, Rosa's takedowns were missing a lot of drive, allowing Rodriguez to defend them easily.

By the middle of the second round, Rosa's face was sliced open and battered. He continued to push forward and throw punches, but he rarely landed anything solid. Plus, he was getting countered constantly, and his takedowns were frequently reversed.

Heading into the third, it was clear which fighter had the momentum.

Rosa opened up the third round with some pressure and a nice double leg takedown. After a minute of landing hard elbow strikes, Rosa was caught in a second triangle choke, though he managed to slip out without too much issue. He used the escape to pass and attempted a crucifix, but Rodriguez managed to escape back to his feet.

Before long, Rosa managed to land a second takedown against the fence. Rosa stayed active with punches and elbows while Rodriguez threw up submission attempts. From within the guard, both men battled until the end of the fight.

Ultimately, it came down to the first round, and two of the judges sided with Rodriguez.

This was a huge victory for the Mexican fighter. He displayed a ton of potential, particularly on his feet, where he used a number of creative techniques to keep his opponent off-balance and do damage. In addition, he was constantly working from the ground, both with strikes and submission attempts.

Furthermore, Rodriguez is a huge featherweight. He dwarfed his opponent, and his strength advantage likely helped him defend takedowns and land so many reversals. His strikes landed with serious power, knocking his opponent around.

While Rodriguez needs to develop his wrestling a bit further, he's in a great camp and still quite young. Hopefully, he's brought along slowly and given time to develop. This was already a big win for him, but he doesn't need to face a top 15 fighter just yet.

Rosa has to be disappointed. Against a fairly unknown fighter, Rosa wound up in an all out war and came up just short. Despite his proven skills, his current UFC record sits below .500, which is never a good look.

In this bout, Rosa's conditioning really cost him. Of course, the elevation and kicks he absorbed didn't help, but that's what really prevented him from out-wrestling his opponent. If Rosa had been able to push hard for three rounds, he likely would've pulled out the win.

Regardless, this was an entertaining fight, and Rosa has made a habit of putting on shows. He's not going anywhere, and I look forward to seeing both men again inside the Octagon.

Last night, Yair Rodriguez upset Charles Rosa in a wild scrap. How high will the Mexican TUF winner climb?

That Awkward Moment When The Prince Couldn't Put A Ring On Sofia Hellqvist ...

Theres nothing like a royal wedding. The glamour, the prestige, the royal spotting, the ring not fitting. Say what? Thats right, at the latest royal wedding between Swedens Prince Carl Philip (36) and former glamour model and reality star Sofia Hellqvist (30), there was a bit of an awkward moment when the prince couldnt get a ring on Sophias finger.

Prince Carl Philip is third in line to the Swedish throne, and Sofia Hellqvist can now add the title of Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duchess of Vrmland (or Princess Sofia for short) to her rsum. The ceremony took place in the chapel at Stockholms Royal Palace and was attended by the likes of Britains Prince Edward, Belgiums Queen Mathilde, and Princess Takamado of Japan. Sofia Hellqvist walked down the aisle in front of 550 guests. Prince Carl Philip was noted to blink back tears as his princess-to-be walked down the aisle with Enyas Father in Heaven playing.

During the service, Carl Philip appeared nervous and managed to fumble at the all-important ring exchange moment. Accidentally, he tried to slide Sofias ring onto the wrong finger (his nerves were that great), but after the couple giggled about it, the ring finally came to rest on the right finger, and Sofia Hellqvist was officially a princess. There were no nerves when it came time to seal their marriage with a kiss.

Sofia Hellqvist wore a dress by Swedish designer Ida Sjstedt and already, royal fans are comparing it to the dress Kate Middleton wore when she wed Prince William of England. Kate attended the wedding, so perhaps Sofia and her compared the finer details of each others dresses at the wedding reception. Sofias dress was simple yet elegant, with lace sleeves and a long train. She wore her hair up in a bun that showed off the tattoo on the back of her neck. Sofia Hellqvist also wore a diamond-encrusted tiara topped with brilliant green emeralds. Her bouquet was white, pale pink, and orange roses that matched the huge pillars of flowers at the church and the enormous wall display at their wedding reception.

Once the royal couple were married, they greeted royal fans as they traveled in a horse-drawn carriage through central Stockholm, with Sofia Hellqvist even giving a thumbs up to the crowd. Prince Philip thanked Sweden for attending, It shows Sweden is a warm country with lots of love, and then the couple attended their wedding reception.

Swedens royal family is a constitutional monarchy, with the king holding no political sway. All of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvias children have now officially married commoners or people without noble rank. While Sofia Hellqvist is now a princess, if the country hadnt changed its succession laws in 1980 to make the eldest child not the eldest male child heir, she would also be directly in line to become the queen of Sweden one day, rather than sitting at third in line of succession.

Which was your favorite royal wedding? How did Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvists compare? Let us know your thoughts by commenting below!

Colombia vs. Venezuela : Copa America preview

Colombia is set to play Venezuela on Sunday at 2 pm in Chile in their first match in the group C division of the Copa America 2015. Here is who you should be watching for.

ColombiaOffensive weaponsJames Rodriguez

An attacking midfielder who now plays for Real Madrid, had the most goals of any player in the entire World Cup tournament last year. He is only 23 years old, but proved in his performance in the 2014 World Cup that he is without question one of the teams most valuable players. He is expected to be among the most exciting players to watch in the entire tournament.

Radamel the Tiger Falcao

Elected team captain by head coach Jose Pekerman. He is Colombias all time top scorer, having made 25 goals since his international debut for Colombia in 2007. Falcao struggled this year as a loan striker for Manchester United, scoring only 4 goals all season. However, in a recent friendly against Costa Rica, he scored the teams only goal, bringing them a 1-0 win, effectively allowing him to regain the support of his team and his fans. Despite the shoddy performance in England this year, he is still considered one of the most dangerous strikers in the world today.

Calos Bacca

This 29-year-oldcurrently is seeking to prove himself to the world and to potential future soccer club managers, as he intends to up his stock in the midst of a contractual transition. In the past two seasons as a striker for Sevilla he has reportedly scored nearly 50 goals. He has been a consistently positive asset for Colombia, and is expected to continue to be in the upcoming matches.

Defensive concerns

The team faces many challenges on defense, as they have lost several key players to injuries. Midfielders Abel Aguilar, Fredy Guarin and Juan Quintero, plus defender Eder Alvarez Balanta are all currently on the disabled list. Furthermore, last years team captain and star defenseman, Mario Yepes has since retired.

Jeison Murillo of Granada and 23-year-old Santiago Arias will be Colombias stoppers. They each will be seeking to prove themselves. Behind them will be an experienced David Ospina defending the goal.

Coach

Coach Pekerman has won three consecutive World Under-20 championships with Argentina. In 2006, he led Argentina to the World Cups quarter-finals. In 2012, he led Colombia to the World Cups quarter finals, which was the furthest the team had ever reached. This year he hopes to return Colombia to the glory they enjoyed in 2001.

Venezuela

11 of Venezuelas23 players are presently competing with European teams. While La Vinotinto (Venezuela team name) is not favored to win, they will likely not be an easy feat either. Historically, Venezuela has not had the same football fanatic culture that their neighbor and Sunday opponent Colombia has. That said, ever since they hosted the Copa America in 2007, at which point they made it to the quarterfinals for the first time ever, they have consistently been considered a worthy opponent. Then in 2011, they again made history by advancing to the semifinals. This year they hope to take it all the way.

Offensive weapons

Venezuelas star player, Salomon Rondon, scored 12 goals this season for Zenit St. Petersburg, helping his team win the Russian Premier League title. He is a ferocious contender and likely to be the biggest threat Venezuela has against Colombia.

Team captain Juan Arango is the teams all time highest scorer, having made 23 career goals for Venezuela. He is the most seasoned veteran of the team, having appeared in some 100 matchesfor his nations team. He is 35, arguably weathered, yet still effective.

Beyond Rondon and Arango, Venezuela is largely undermanned with star players. This could be a debilitating factor to their fate in the tournament.

Defense

Roberto Rosales and Oswaldo Vizcarrondo will be Venezuelas backfield. They will have to prove their effectiveness in the coming matches. In goal, will be an experienced Dani Hernandez.

Anybodys game

In group C is Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, and Peru. In order to advance to the second round of the tournament, the Cafeteros will have to finish either first or second in the group that also contains soccer giant Brazil and World Cup participant Peru. Brazil defeated Colombia last year in the 2014 World Cup. Peru knocked out Colombia in the 2011 Copa America. That same year Venezuela made it to the semifinals for the first time in history.

The route to the cup will be no easy task. That said, this years national team is likely be the best squad that Colombia has seen since they won their first and only Copa America in 2001, the year they hosted it. Within their arsenal, they have some of the best offensive weapons in the entire tournament, and arguably the world. The greatest pending concern will thus be how their defense pans against a Venezuelan attack that is hungry for glory. As of now, it is anybodys game. Heres to hoping Colombia redeems itself against all of its past rivals.

Ruby Rose says she's excited starring in Orange Is The New Black

She'll soon be seen on Orange Is The New Black, one of her biggest gigs yet.

And Ruby Rose admits that the show has sparked something inside of her - even if she originally had pegged the show as a failure.

Speaking toSunday Stylemagazine, the star said,'I've hit the ground running' after starring on the show.

Scroll down for video

Good feeling: Ruby Rose has said appearing in Orange Is The New Black has got her 'fired up again'

Although a fan of the show now, the 29-year-old said she at first was worried the concept wouldn't work.

'It has women directors, writers and producers; it's about women in prison. Everything about it had "failure" written on it,' she said, referring to the way the series broke new ground for audiences who hadn't seen a show like it before and may have been divided over the content.

The Netflix original series stars Taylor Schilling and has become wildly popular and acclaimed since it's 2013 debut, having won many Emmy, People's Choice and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Ruby has been promoting the season three premiere, which happens on June 12, on her Instagram account - posting a teaser shot of herself in beige jumpsuit alongside Taylor's character Piper Chapman.

It's good to be wrong: The 29-year-old said she was a big fan of the show, which she'll star in the upcoming third season of, but admitted the had originally pegged OITNB as a failure

Pleasant surprise: Ruby thought the game-changing show about women in prison might be divisive

The new season will see her play Stella Carlin, who becomes involved in a love triangle with Piper and Alex Vause, who's played by Laura Prepon.

Prior to Orange Is The New Black, the model was cast as Hannah in 2013 Australian film Around The Block.

She's done plenty of hosting and presenting work - most notably as an MTV VJ and a former panelist on The Project.

Ruby, engaged to partner Phoebe Dahl, recently debuted a new look - trimming her hair into a bowl cut.

College World Series memories: Shock the World

Kate Morrison, WFAA Sports 2:22 p.m. CDT June 13, 2015

Pat Cantwell of the Frisco RoughRiders(Photo: Melisa Oporto)

The College World Series is upon us, with the first four teams facing off Saturday, June 13th. To get an insight into what it's like to travel the road to Omaha, and make it there as an underdog, I spoke with current Frisco RoughRiders catcher Pat Cantwell, who was the starting catcher for the Stony Brook Seawolves in 2012. The Seawolves were the fourth-seed in their region that year, and won four elimination games to advance to the College World Series, adopting the slogan "Shock the World" along the way.

What was it like, getting to the college playoffs with Stony Brook?

'We were underdogs the whole year - coming from the northeast, no one really gave us a shot anyway, but if anything it made us closer and it probably helped us out. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world."

What was the best part of your journey to the College World Series?

"Probably winning at LSU, because we were such big underdogs. I tell people this all the time when people ask me about it - going to Omaha was great, we were the Cinderella story, everybody was cheering for us, but there's something different about being the underdog when nobody wants you to win, nobody expects you to win, and our guys came out and answered the call. It was just one of those things where everybody came together at the right time and we got hot. It was a pretty special two or three days."

General view of logo before the 2015 College World Series(Photo: Steven Branscombe, Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports)

Stony Brook faced top pitcher Kevin Gausman in the LSU super-regional. What was that like?

"He [Gausman] was the best pitcher in college baseball that year, he closed out game 1 - the game that we actually lost because of the rain delay, so he finished out that game and [started] in Game 2. He did what he's best at - used both sides of the plate, good offspeed, good changeup, good slider. We were fortunate enough to get a couple of big hits, couple of guys on, and a couple of runs, and our pitching staff and bullpen did a great job, our defense was - I think it was nationally ranked that year, top 10 in the country. We made all the plays that we needed to make and fortunately we came out on top against a great pitcher and better competitor."

What advice would you have for someone with a team that's made it to Omaha this year?

"My advice would be to enjoy it, but don't let it take away from your competitive edge. Guys go there and they fall in love with the city and the people, everybody's very welcoming and very nice to you, everybody knows you're a baseball player when you're walking around. Go and enjoy it but you have to be ready to play when the time comes, so don't lose that competitive edge, but it's an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life, so you've got to try to have some fun with it too."

Any last thoughts or favorite memories of the College World Series?

"I mean, just the city of Omaha itself. You know, it was real cool when we got there - all the streets where the hotels are are named after the teams that are there, that was awesome. Everywhere you went there was some type of memorabilia from each school that was playing that year. The field was amazing, we played the first year at the new ballpark, and that's a beautiful facility. It was just a great experience. Everything that that city does for this time of the year is amazing, and I wish everybody could experience it once in their life, but it's just one of those things that you have to see for yourself."

The College World Series begins today at 2:00 PM CT when the Arkansas Razorbacks face off against the Virginia Cavaliers (ESPN), and continues with Florida versus Miami (FL) at 7:00 PM CT (ESPN). TCU will kick off its campaign for the title against LSU on Sunday at 2:00 PM CT (ESPN), with Cal State Fullerton facing defending champions Vanderbilt at 7:00 PM CT (ESPN2) that night.

Thailand beat the Ivory Coast 3-2 on a brace from Orathai Srimanee

Orathai Srimanee of Thailand celebrates with teammates after scoring her second goal vs. the Ivory Coast.

Thanatta Chawong scored an insurance goal in the 75th minute which proved the difference as Thailand beat Ivory Coast 3-2 in their Women's World Cup opening group game on Thursday in Ottawa, Ontario.

Thailand's group record improved to 1-1-0 with three points while Ivory Coast, 10-0 losers to Germany in their opener, fell to 0-2-0.

Ivory Coast opened the scoring just four minutes in. A corner kick pinballed in the 6-yard box until Ange Nguessan was able to get her left foot on it and beat Thailand goalkeeper Waraporn Boonsing for a 1-0 lead.

In the 26th minute, Anootsara Maijarern took a seemingly offside long feed on the left wing and passed to Orathai Srimanee, who volleyed it by goalkeeper Dominique Thaimale to even the game.

Srimanee made it 2-1 in first-half stoppage time, heading home a service from Rattikan Thongsombut. The ball hit the crossbar and came straight down, but review confirmed it completely crossed the goal line.

Josee Nahi cut the deficit to one in the 88th minute, but a tying attempt by Christine Lohoues in injury time hit the crossbar and deflected out of bounds.

From Phineas and Ferb to Supreme Court Season, These Were the Best Stories ...

Back in the real world, however, there were, of course, more serious matters to consider. Relations between law enforcement and the public continue to dominate our attention. Slate had two pieces this week that did a great job of pulling back from the breaking news to examine more complex issues. Dahlia Lithwick looked at whether excited delirium is a legitimate medical diagnosis or just something convenient for cops to cite when suspects die in custody. And in the wake of the McKinney, Texas, pool party controversy, Jamelle Bouie reminded readers that America has a long (and ugly) history of segregating our swimming pools.

Amanda Hess has a heartrending article on Izabel Laxamana, the Washington state teenager who committed suicide after her father cut off her hair and made a video shaming her for disobeying him. Hess notes that shaming is a medieval practice that takes on a whole new dimension in a society dominated by social media and YouTube.

The big finale of the Supreme Court season is coming up, and Slate is on it. Adam Winkler reviews John Roberts not-so-conservative record so far, and Dahlia Lithwick looks into her crystal ball and predicts that the justices just might consider how their decisions on Obamacare and gay marriage will affect the 2016 election. Away from the Supreme Court, Mark Joseph Stern is casting a critical eye on how states are seeking to limit rights for gay couples even as SCOTUS appears (maybe) ready to make gay marriage the law of the land.

Thats a lot of heavy stuff. Maybe you need a mental health break, something more lighthearted. As it turns out, our culture editor Dan Kois has just the thing for you. He spent some time with the good folks at ClickHole, the site that mocks buzzing, feedy things that buzz all over your feed.

Before I go, one of the delights of working at Slate is stumbling across the pieces that make you go hmmmm. Things that defy expectations or answer questions that you never thought to ask. The disparate entries in that category this week are this video that shows you how to use chickpea liquid as an egg white substitute and a science piece that looks at whether a subdivision built on ancient Pueblo lands can actually be good for archaeology.

Thank you so much for being a member, and have a great weekend.

The Launch Trailer For 'LEGO Jurassic World' Spares No Nostalgia

Jurassic World finally hits theaters today and, well, it might be a bit of a battle to get a seat. But hey, if you happen to be left out in the cold, you could still console yourself with LEGO Jurassic World, the new game that actually covers the entire Jurassic Park series.

The final trailer for LEGO Jurassic World mostly focuses on the games take on the original Jurassic Park. Dr. Grant seeing the Brachiosaurus for the first time, the velociraptors in the kitchen scene, that d**n sexy, snarky Jeff Goldblum. Its all here. Theres also some new stuff, like a shot of a raptor constructing something out of LEGO blocks. Oh G*d, even our building toys arent safe.

Farewell To Dusty Rhodes, The American Dream

This one hurts.

A pro wrestlers sudden death is by now no more surprising than the passing of another worlds oldest human. But todays news that Dusty Rhodes was gone shook me.

Try as my parents surely did, traditional theater never did anything for me. But d**n if I wasnt awed every time I watched the guy born Virgil Runnels Jr. in character as the wrestler Dusty Rhodes. Here was thislets be honesthideous-looking man with hair and a body type of a sort only found in pro wrestling delivering scripted boasts about his physical and intellectual prowess in an exaggerated Southern drawl and cartoonish lisp, even taunting all ring rivals with claims that he was familiar with their lady friends.

My brother and some buddies and I, none of whom ever were ring obsessives, have been trading impersonations of Rhodes promos for the last few decades: Im jutht a plumberth thon! and Whithkey bent and glory bound! and, my fave, Im bethide mythelf, and thatth five-hundred and sixthty poundth, if you know what Im thayin. Standard wrestling fare, for sure, and nothing as poetic as Ric Flairs If you wanna be the man you gotta beat the man! But to me, everything coming out of the mouth of the American Dream oozed thespian brilliance. I can only hope my folks got as much entertainment out of Laurence Olivier as Richard III.

Rhodess ring persona hit home with me for geographic and cultural reasons, too. He was a star all over the world, but especially for National Wrestling Alliance promoters in the Carolinas and Florida, and that meant a few things to me.

I grew up in the 1970s in Northern Virginia, about seven miles from the Washington, D.C. border, and was always proud that the city was the birthplace of the NWA rival now known as the WWE, which grew out of weekly broadcasts filmed at a downtown gym called Turners Arena, off 13th and W Sts NW. Vince McMahon dominated the D.C. market when I was a kid, and NWA wrestlers had no presence in town before cable television, so I only saw stars like Rhodes and Flair on the covers of wrestling magazines, always bloodied like nothing Id ever seen on McMahons Saturday morning wrestling shows.

Coming from the Virginia side of the Potomac River, though, meant I also grew up a fan of the New South, of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers and politicians like Jimmy Carter and basically of anything that might make the South cool again for the first time in at least a century. So I found something romantic about these bloodied bottle-blond cover boys, and when the wrestling civil war for ring domination commenced on cable when I was a little older, I rooted hard for the NWA (and, eventually, its cable-friendly successor, WCW). Rhodes made that decision easy.

Beginning in the mid-1980s, despite the efforts of Rhodes and Flair and endless broadcasts on Ted Turners TBS, McMahons organization took the upper hand in the wrestling war. With its USA Network telecasts and Wrestlemania on its way to becoming the Super Bowl of the sport, what is now WWE became a national concern; the NWA troupes, by contrast, were never quite able to overcome their reputation for Southernness. This meant, among other things, that my exposure to Rhodes came almost totally via the TV. That was okay, since his actual wrestling abilities, capped by his finishing move, the Bionic Elbow, werent nearly as otherworldly as his work with the microphone. But I was excited when I heard Rhodes was coming to town for a July 3, 1986 show at RFK Stadium called the Great American Bash.

The card featured Flair vs. Rhodes for the NWA title. The match, and the whole card, was a bust. The crowd was announced as 6,000, but the giant venue didnt even seem to have even that many people inside. But, as I reminded myself again and again today since hearing of his death, I saw Dusty Rhodes battle for the belt! I dug out my ticket stub from the Bash, and was at my laptop guffawing at the above period-piece promo Rhodes cut for that showAnd Ronald Reagan, you and Nansthy better get your seatsth!when my phone rang.

My brother was on the other line. Jutht a plumberth thon, he said. Im bethide mythelf, and thatth five-hundred and sixthty poundth, if you know what Im thayin, I countered. We laughed. Thanks for that, Dusty.
