It"s a story that"s been told many times before.

But the latest Mary Queen of Scots iteration promises to be a quite the crowd-pleaser.

On Friday, Variety reported that Margot Robbie had signed on to the project to play Queen Elizabeth opposite Saoirse Ronanwho will playMary Stuart.

Big news! On Friday it was reported that Margot Robbie had signed on to the project to play Queen Elizabeth

Director Josie Rourke had already signed on as well.

The film will revolve aroundMary Stuarts attempt at overthrowing hercousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England in 1568.

Unfortunately Mary is defeated and is instead thrown in jail before being executed.

While it is currently unclear if the film has been greenlit, the addition of a talent like Robbie makes it very likely.

The 26-year-old Australian beauty last appeared in Suicide Squad, which grossed over $325,000,000 worldwide last summer.

It seems Robbie is seeking an award after her blockbuster performance, as she"ll next appear in the drama Goodbye Christopher Robin, about the creator of Winnie the Pooh.

Martin, 74, described Margot as having "the comedic genius of Carole Lombard" and the "grounded, hardscrabble toughness" of Joan Crawford.

Margot Robbie kicked off the season 42 premiere of Saturday Night Live by bringing a bit of honesty to election season.

I mean, this is how you guys really do it, the Australian actress said in her opening monologue. Its nuts! I mean everybody just lies. Its crazy. Which is why tonight I am going to be 100 percent honest with you. And just in case I ever do lie, I will be fact-checking my own monologue. But dont worry. I never lie.

Then, she turned to face another camera and added, I lie all the time. My name isnt even Margot Robbie. Its Margot Robert.

Robbie went on to poke fun at her Suicide Squad costar, Jared Leto, the method actor who made headlines during the films production for sending his castmates various unwanted gifts (think used condoms, a**l beads, a live rat, and a dead pig) in character as the Joker.

Jared Leto stayed in character like the whole time, which was so, so fun, Robbie said, before fact-checking herself: Not fun. It was kind of uncomfortable.

She"s swiftly become one of the silver screen"s most popular vamps.

But on Tuesday Margot Robbie was in a more low key mood as she jetted into Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old pulled her blonde hair back into a loose half ponytail as she went make-up free at LAX Airport.

However, despite her low key arrival the Australian star still managed to bring some edge to her attire.

Margot sported ripped jeans which were covered in sewn on patches ranging from a cartoon bulldog to movie theater popcorn, a slogan stating "I"m ready if you are", and an image of a hamburger.

Completing her outfit were impeccably white Nike sneakers and a black V-neck sweater.

Margot"s latest film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot stars Tina Fey, who plays a news producer that takes an assignment in Kabul, Afghanistan where she meets Tanya Vanderpoel (Robbie) who becomes her mentor in the war zone.

The film is currently in US theaters and comes to UK cinemas on April 22.

Two weeks ago during the promo tour for the film Tina and Margot decided to get back into character during a press junket which saw them turn the tables on a string of unsuspecting journalists with a little role reversal.

The talented twosome also had a moment withWSVN Miami"sChris Van Vliet, who recently went viral after Leslie Mann and Dakota Johnson openly flirted with him while promoting their rom-com, How To Be Single.

Margot took the lead, boldly asking: "It"s common knowledge that your sock game is strong."

The Miami-based journalist then showed off some cute socks he was wearing, to which a blunt Tina responded: "Ah, Space Invaders?"

"My virginity!" A straight-faced reporter left Margot blushing after Tina Fey asked him what gift he would give the Australian actress if he had the opportunity
