Fast and Furious franchise is known for its speed, thrill and intrigue. The last instalment in the series titled Furious 7 which released this Thursday has been raking up huge moolah at the box office.

What seemed like a dull year so far, in terms of box office collections, suddenly has been pumped up with Furious 7 raining crores at the box office. The film has already recorded the highest opening of 2015 with a record smashing Rs 16.75 crore on Thursday. The film followed it up with another Rs 16 crore on Friday, taking the total to a whopping Rs 32.75 crore.

If the figures are anything to go by, Furious 7 has got the biggest opening in India, in comparison to other Hollywood films. Arjun Rampal-Jacqueline Fernandez- Ranbir Kapoor starrer Roy had the highest opening but Furious 7 has surpassed their figures as well. With that, not only Hollywood, but the film has also become the biggest opener this year, beating all other Bollywood films that released in the first quarter of 2015.

Giving a tough fight to YRF's next- Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Fast and Furious 7 has raced much ahead of the detective flick in terms of collections.

'Furious 7' will probably be the next $1 billion movie

There's no question the seventh installment to the "Fast and the Furious" franchise, "Furious 7," is going to have a massive opening weekend.

It is poised to make about $120 million over the Easter holiday.

That would easily give "Furious 7" the highest-grossing opening weekend for April, surpassing 2014's $95 million opening of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

According to Fandango, the film's ticket sales are outpacing those of the "Captain America" sequel.

Ahead of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which arrives to theaters in May, "Furious 7" has a good shot at being the year's first billion-dollar movie.

"This is definitely shaping up to be massive," Phil Contrino, the vice president and chief analyst of BoxOffice.com, told Business Insider. "With a movie like this, it's important not to get too carried away with expectations because ... in the lead-up to a big movie, that's all people are talking about, and it's easy to keep saying, 'It's going to be bigger, and bigger, and bigger.' That said, I think it has a legitimate shot at becoming the next member of the $1 billion global club."

Contrino noted that would be a huge accomplishment.

Look at the box-office numbers for "Fast and Furious 6," and it's not difficult to make that case. The 2013 film made $788 million worldwide ($238 million domestic versus $550 million overseas).

Boxoffice.com is tracking "Furious 7" to make somewhere between $275 million and $280 million stateside during its run in theaters.

"That's a $42 million increase right there," Contrino said. "The last one did about $550 million overseas. I think that number's going to go up exponentially. If there's a $40 million increase in North America alone, even if there's a $10 or $15 million increase in a bunch of key markets like UK, China, Brazil ... that's going to add up really fast. That $550 million number is going to increase quite a bit. [If] you look at it that way and we're not too far from being in the ballpark of $1 billion globally."

"Furious 7" has already opened as No. 1 in 12 markets overseas.

The film will also be Universal Studios' largest film release ever and the widest Imax release ever, showing on 810 Imax screens worldwide. It will open in more than 4,000 theaters Friday in the US and more than 10,500 theaters around the world.

In addition to the high-adrenaline, action-packed storyline, which has received great reviews, the seventh installment serves as a bittersweet send-off to franchise lead Paul Walker, who died in 2013.

Walker's death will be one reason audiences will head out to see "Furious 7."

"This isn't just another entry into a franchise," Contrino said. "It's got more significance to it. Its success at the box office, many people are going to see that as a tribute to Paul Walker and what he brought to the franchise."

"They're going to show up for that reason," he added. "Even if they maybe have skipped some of the other movies, they'll show up for this one."

The Cars of Fast and Furious 7

The Fast and Furious franchise has always known its way around even people with no or little interest in cars. The impending launch of every new instalment has the world raving and drooling and losing their minds over what's next, and rightly so. The next one - Furious 7 - is no different.

Universal Studios recently employed the Super Bowl platform to not only release a new trailer, but also to reveal their new Fast & Furious ride - Fast and Furious: Supercharged. The thrill ride features Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Luke Evans.

Anyway, come back to the 7th instalment of the film - it picks up the story after the death of Han in Tokyo and has Jason Statham playing Owen Shaw's elder brother, who is out to exact revenge. Filmed in cities across the globe, Furious 7 will feature the underground Race Wars event in Los Angeles that also featured in the first Fast and Furious instalment.

As far as the crew's rides are concerned, the Furious 7 will feature the following cars:

a. Ferrari 458 Italia

This Prancing Horse baby features a mid-rear-mounted 4.5-litre V8 motor that develops 562bhp and 540Nm. It goes from 0 - 100Km/h in 3.4 seconds and offers a top-speed of 325Km/h.

b. Bugatti Veyron

The current record holder for the fastest production car - the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport - can reach a top speed of 431.072km/h. The Veyron Super Sport's lightweight carbon fibre body and 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W-16 engine enable it to deliver 1,200bhp of power and a torque of 1,500Nm.

c. Audi R8

This mid-engine German sports car is offered with three engine options, i.e. the 430bhp V8, the 525bhp V10, and the 550bhp 5.2-litre V10 engines, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

d. Dodge Challenger

This one three powertrain options: a 3.6-litre V6 with a new 8-speed automatic, and a 5.7-

and 6.4-litre V8s with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. While the Pentastar V6 puts out 305bhp and 363Nm of torque, the 5.7-litre V8 develops 375bhp and 556Nm and the 6.4-litre promises 485bhp and 644Nm of torque.

If a production Challenger is so powerful, I wonder what a modified Challenger would be like.

e. Subaru Impreza WRX STI

WRX STI takes the WRX standard - which is already the high-performance version - a notch up. An endeavour of Subaru Tecnica International, the carmaker's tuning division, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI gets a turbocharged, 4-cylinder, 2.5-litre SUBARU BOXER motor along with a more advanced all-wheel-drive system. The engine is rated at 305bhp and 393Nm of torque.

f. W Motors Lykan Hypersport

Also referred to as Arabia's first Supercar, the Lykan Hypersport offers 770bhp of peak power and 960Nm of torque. It gets a top-speed of 385Km/h along and can go from standstill to 100Km/h in 2.8 seconds.
