"Overwatch" hero Sombra has hacked the game"s subreddit and Discord

Sombra and Diablo Necromancer Leak - Blizzcon 2016 (Overwatch & Diablo)

The mysterious, unreleased Overwatch hero Sombra appears to have "hacked" the Overwatch subreddit and its Discord channel, creating quite a buzz in the community as to whether she will finally be revealed.

Sombra has been the subject of a long-running alternate-reality game (ARG) that has tasked curious players with solving different puzzles and clues that involve the fictional universe of Overwatch. The Reddit hack changed users" profile pictures to Sombra"s purple skull logo and changed a few other cosmetic elements.

Reddit users" images changed to Sombra"s skull logo.

A moderator of the subreddit made an announcement that a website that"s part of the Overwatch universe is "under attack from mysterious assailants, who are seeking assistance with the hack." The website in question is lumerico.mx, which is the homepage for a potentially corrupt Mexican power company in the game.

The amount of traffic heading to LumriCo"s website appears to have crashed the website initially, but some people have been able to get in. The official Discord channel for the Overwatch subreddit also crashed under the weight of traffic but is currently accessible.

Players have been collaborating on /r/Overwatch and multiple Discord channels as they work out the different clues that Blizzard has left in the game and on the internet. Participants of the ARG have been able to help Sombra breach the LumriCo a bit, but the ARG isn"t quite over.

This development in the ARG comes after an image of Sombra leaked Tuesday, showing off what the character will likely look like when she"s available to play.

Along with that leaked image, a news article within the universe was posted on Blizzard"s website, stating that a group called Los Muertos is "organizing a protest to coincide with LumriCo"s unveiling of the Dorado nuclear plant on November 1st."

It"s likely that this event coincides with that post.

Nobody knows exactly when Sombra will be unveiled, but with BlizzCon approaching on Friday it wouldn"t be a surprise to see the reveal then. If the detectives involved in the ARG crack through the clues, though, Sombra could be revealed much sooner.

Overwatch Update: D.Va Becomes Starcraft 2 Announcer, Sombra Only Hours Away

Overwatch - Has Sombra Hacked Bastion? ARG Latest News!

Blizzard has announced the inclusion of Overwatch hero D.Va as an announcer in Starcraft 2. (PlayOverwatch/YouTube)

For the fans of Overwatchand hero D.Va, you"re in for a treat. Blizzard is taking the mech-riding, badass lady to Starcraft 2as an announcer. And when people think that things couldn"t get any better, the Sombra hype just snowballs. It seems the whole community is just hours away from acquiring the new character.

According to Eurogamer, the aforementioned Overwatchhero is making her way to Starcraft 2, also a title developed by Blizzard. D.Va, known for his "Nerf this!" line is bringing her voice to S2as an announcer. It"s worth noting that this will be the very first hero (or character in a sense) outside of the franchise"s canon to ever make an appearance in-game. And yes, despite her being an announcer.

In an announcementmade by the studio, the Overwatchhero is deemed as a 16-year-old eSports prodigy. Her solid Starcraft experience in the scene is what makes her "uniquely qualified" to support players in-game. Heck, she"s even considered as the number one ranked player at a very young age.

D.Va, equipped with the same tone and cuteness she has in Overwatch, will deliver the lines such as "Your base is under attack!" Fans can also hear her say "Nuke"s ready, nerf this!" or "Warp in complete. Boom!" Players can check the full list in the above mentioned announcement.

In related Overwatchnews, it seems Sombra is only a matter of time before she lands her on the game. As noted here at iTech Post, a controversial site seems to suggest that the said hero is only hours away from existing. As of this writing, her progress is at 99.0377% with a completion of just 20 hours, 41 minutes.

Of course, one can say that this might not really refer to the Overwatchhero. But really, who knows? Besides, Sombra"s logo can be seen on the top-middle part of the site. This, in one way or another, could mean a thing or two.

What are your thoughts on the Overwatchhero D. Va getting a shot at Starcraft 2? How about the supposed forthcoming hero Sombra? Any expectations? Share us your answers by using the comment section below!

Overwatch Sombra ARG reaches new, seemingly anticlimactic milestone

Overwatch | Sombra Countup Ende | Infos und Fakten | Bastion Morsecode uvm ★ Overwatch Deutsch

After months of teasing (and apparent leaks), Blizzards long-running alternate reality game for Overwatch one that, players theorize, will conclude in the reveal of a new character, Sombra looked like it was coming to an end today. Fans of the team-based shooter were paying close attention to a simple website that updated at a glacial pace over the course of many weeks, hoping that when a counter reached 100 percent, Sombra would be officially unveiled.

No such luck.

Instead, Overwatch fans were treated to an updated message on that website, amomentincrime.com. The new message read:

...Transmisin finalizada - finalizando carga... ...Carga finalizada. Unidad Bastion E-54 comprometida...

That translates to, roughly, Transmission complete. Completing load. Load complete. Unit E-54 Bastion compromised. In other words, Sombra, a computer expert who had been hacking into an unidentified network over the course of the past eight weeks, had hacked into the last remaining Bastion unit, who is playable in Overwatch.

Blizzard released a new update for Overwatch today, right around the same time that the A Moment In Crime website was updated. Players quickly went digging to discover what was new. So far, they havent found much. Bastion doesnt appear to have changed its behavior in the game.

The only new clue players have discovered is a message hidden in the A Moment In Crime websites HTML. That message is:

v1.4.0.2.324??

That number looks awfully close to the versioning numbers Blizzard uses for Overwatch, but so far, players havent cracked the version numbers significance. Players have also noticed that the number of cosmetic items available per hero in Overwatchs Hero Gallery appears to be a bit ... glitchy, indicating that if Sombra does appear soon, Blizzard may have more skins, emotes, sprays and voice lines queued up and ready to go for her arrival. That, or Overwatchs latest update introduced a minor bug.

Players are currently hammering out other theories, including one where theyre monitoring Bastions blinking eye in the robots recently added Halloween-themed victory pose, just in case Bastion is now communicating via Morse code.

Regardless of players findings, many Overwatch fans are expressing fatigue and annoyance at the painfully slow unveiling of Sombra. One of the most popular threads on Reddit is titled Blizzard please do not treat any heroes in the future like you have with Sombra. It reads:

Let me start by saying some of the ARG stuff is cool. Like the website or small hints in game. However all this Sombra "hype" has reached a point where I"m completely sick and tired of hearing about her. Sure, I"m excited for a new hero. But at this point Sombra has become more of a meme than an actual character. And nothing they introduce with her will be able to live up to the, frankly frustrating, amount of hype she"s been given. It seems like every time we"re FINALLY going to see a release, it turns out to be yet another teaser.

I guess the short answer is I"m sick of hearing about her. And if this is how every hero is going to be treated from now on, I worry every character will be released to disappointment rather than excitement.

Many Overwatch players on the games subreddit appear to agree with that sentiment.

Blizzard treated the reveal of Overwatchs first post-launch character, Ana, quite differently. The company dropped a few hints about her on Twitter one week, then made her playable the following week. That was in July, when the Sombra ARG kicked off in earnest.

Overwatch fans may have to ration their patience a bit longer, as Blizzard will hold its annual fan-focused convention, BlizzCon, in just a few weeks. BlizzCon 2016 will take place Nov. 4-5 in Anaheim, California. Hopefully, Sombra will emerge from the shadows before then, for the safety and sanity of all attendees.
