Florida State football routs Boston College

Boston College Eagles - Florida State Seminoles NCAAF 2016 / Week 11 / 11.11.2016

Deondre Francois tied a season high with three touchdown passes and Dalvin Cook ran for 108 yards to help No. 20 Florida State rout visiting Boston College 45-7 on Friday night.

Cook became only the second Seminoles back to go over 100 yards in 15 meetings against the Eagles and the first since Ricky Williams had 109 yards in 1980.

The junior, who also had a touchdown on 18 carries, moved within 19 yards of breaking Warrick Dunns school career mark of 3,959 yards.

Francois completed nine of his first 11 passes, and the Seminoles scored on their first two drives.

A 6-yard scoring strike to Auden Tate marked the first time Florida State (7-4, 4-3 ACC, No. 18 CFP) has scored on its opening drive since Sept. 24 at South Florida. The freshman was 16 of 24 for 183 yards, but suffered a shoulder contusion late in the third quarter and did not return.

Sean Maguire came in and added a pair of touchdowns. Tate, who had six receptions for 101 yards, had two touchdowns.

The Eagles (4-6, 1-5) had three first downs on their first two drives before having nine straight three-and-outs. They averted a shutout with 3:21 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Richard Wilson.

Matchup loses luster

Its safe to say neither Stanford nor Oregon thought either team would be where it is now when the season started.

Stanford, with Heisman-hopeful Christian McCaffrey, was ranked No. 8 in the preseason and expected to claim the Pac-12 title. But now the Cardinal are 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the league.

The Ducks, who played for the national title two seasons ago, are 3-6 overall (1-5 Pac-12) and facing the prospect they might not become bowl eligible.

Either Stanford or Oregon had won every Pac-12 championship since the league expanded and a title game was established in 2011. Each time the teams had met since 2008, one or both were ranked.

Certainly many had Saturdays game in Eugene circled on the calendar at the start of the season as a game that could have postseason implications. But now it looks like the norths biggest game will be the Apple Cup between Washington and Washington State.

Stanford coach Davis Shaw said the records dont diminish the importance of this game to both programs.

Records dont matter. These are two proud football programs whove had very good football games the last four years, Shaw said. Its a tough place to play and a tough place to win.

Stanford looks to have recovered with two straight victories after losses to the Huskies, Cougars and upstart Colorado. The Cardinal defeated Oregon State 26-15 last weekend.

Oregon defeated Arizona State at Autzen two weeks ago, but fell to USC 45-20 at the Coliseum last Saturday.

Utes win big on the road

Joe Williams ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 19 Utahs defense had 11 sacks in a 49-26 victory over host Arizona State late Thursday night.

Utah (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12) overcame a slow start with a series of spectacular plays against the FBS worst passing defense to end an eight-game losing streak in Tempe.

Troy Williams threw for 296 yards and connected with Raelon Singleton on three of his four touchdown passes to help the Utes stay within reach of No. 16 Colorado in the Pac-12 South.

Arizona State (5-4, 2-4) has lost five of six since opening 4-0.

Florida State football recruiting updates from Under Armour check-in

Miami vs. Florida State Football Highlights (2015)

Live (and free, as always) Florida State recruiting updates from the Under Armour All-America week.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- I"m here at the Under Armour All-America check-in, speaking with the top college football players in the country. I"ll be posting informal updates from many of the top recruits in the country, and following up with full feature interviews.

-I feel good about FSU"s chances with Brandon Burton, the four-star safety out of California. He believes FSU is sincere in telling him it will play him at both receiver and safety. UCLA is the main competition.Interview here.

-Keith Gavin is down to Alabama and Florida State, and FSU will receive the last visit for the four-star receiver from Crawfordville.Full interview here.

-Top QB recruit Malik Henry is enrolling early and leading the charge for the class. The Cali superstar discusses recruiting Keith Gavin, Nate Craig-Myers, Trayvon Mullen, Dontavious Jackson, Brandon Burton and others here. Video is above.

-Landon Dickerson said that if he had to buy two hats for his signing day ceremony, that he"d buy Tennessee and Florida State, and that his best relationship is with Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett. Dickerson visited in October and FSU has a good shot at the four-star tackle from North Carolina.

-Shavar Manuel will officially visit Florida State and Florida, and perhaps USF. He says his best relationship is with the Florida schools, and I think Florida has the best shot. He has already visited LSU.VIDEO here.

-Four-star cornerback Carlos Becker said that if he had to decide today, N.C. State and Florida State would be on the table.

-Four-star cornerback Jayvaughn Myers does not plan to visit Florida State or Florida, having already seen the in-state schools. Neither does his half-brother Nate Craig-Myers. Both will be checking out some out-of-state schools. I"m not going to say that FSU is out, but the two did not speak all that positively about the pair.

-Dontavious Jackson, a four-star linebacker from Houston says that he will take a return trip to Florida State on his own dime with his mother. Texas and Michigan are also major players here.Video here.

-Baveon Johnson, the four-star center from Lake Gibson discusses his FSU recruitment in this hilarious video.

-Jauan Williams, the four-star offensive tackle from DC says that Florida State leads and that his mom prefers FSU as well.Video here.

-Levonta Taylor isready to become FSU"s starting punt returner.

Florida State football: How next year"s CFB playoff tickets are driving down ...

2015 Clemson vs Florida State Football Game

Paul Abell-USA TODAY Sports

The Peach Bowl ticket retention policy, which has been in effect for the entirety of the bowl"s lifespan, has affected the second-hand ticket market for this year"s Peach Bowl.

If you have considered buying tickets to this year"s Peach Bowl, you may have checked the second-hand ticket market to see if tickets were less expensive on StubHub or any of the other second-hand ticket websites. And if you have checked on any of these sites, you would likely be shocked to find tickets available for significantly less than their face value. As of the time of this writing, the cheapest Peach Bowl ticket available on Stubhub costs $16.73, a markdown of $83.27 from the $100 face value that Ticketmaster has listed for the ticket. In all, there are 175 tickets currently on StubHub for $20 or less and countless more available on these sites for a steep discount.

But why are so many of these tickets posted on second-hand sites at such a substantial markdown? Much of that could likely be contributed to the Peach Bowl"s ticket renewal and retention program, which allows those who buy tickets to the Peach Bowl through one of the official methods to ensure the right to renew their tickets for the following year"s Peach Bowl.

Here"s a full description of the policy:

To obtain renewal rights for the Semifinal next year, a buyer must have done one of the following things:- Purchased tickets directly through the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl office during our renewal period- Purchased tickets through the Bowl"s website or over the phone- Purchased Primary Tickets, not Resale, through the Bowl"s Ticketmaster.com link

Any tickets bought through the participating universities or secondary ticket market (TicketExchange, PrimeSport, StubHub, Premier Seats, etc.) will NOT retain renewal rights next year because those tickets are obligated to the contracted ticket block for future teams.

"Our renewal rate typically averages around 92%", a Peach Bowl representative confirmed. He further stated that there has been a significant interest in the ticket program this year, due to the 2016 Peach Bowl serving as one of the semifinals for the College Football Playoff.

The importance of next year"s Peach Bowl, as well as the unknown of who the four teams in the 2016 playoff will be, has caused fans of multiple programs from across the South to buy tickets to this year"s Peach Bowl to ensure they will have the right to purchase tickets for next year. However, few of those ticket-buyers have any vested interest in this year"s game, and that has caused a much larger supply of tickets on the second-hand market than there is a demand for, driving prices down to upwards of 80% of the face value.

Despite the Florida State fanbase"s ability to purchase tickets at a significant discount from ticket resale sites, Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat reported December 20th that FSU has sold or distributed 11,500 of its 13,000 Peach Bowl tickets, a very promising trend for the Seminoles as New Years" Eve approaches.

Although StubHub may have the cheapest seats, buying tickets through Florida State ensures that you will be seated near fellow Florida State fans. However, with one of the CFP semifinals taking place in Atlanta next year and FSU returning a very talented team in 2016, buying through Ticketmaster is the only way to secure seats at next year"s Peach Bowl, where Florida State may be competing in the playoff for the second time.
