It was welcomed by masses of PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers and offered a new first-person shooter from the makers of Halo. Here, we bring you all of the DLC release date information you need to know, as well as all the latest release date rumours and gameplay informationfrom the upcoming Destiny 2. Last updated on 20 September to include the "Rise of Iron" DLC release.

Destiny Rise of Iron DLC UK release date: When is Rise of Iron coming out?

Destiny Rise of Iron DLC release date: Out now - 20 September 2016 release date

On 20 September the new DLC was released, but due to high demand the Bungie servers have been overloaded and gamers are experiencing problems. When trying to download the new DLC gamers have been put in a queue (as seen below, in aqueue of 152,290!) - make sure to check @BungieHelp on Twitterfor up-to-date server information. It shoudl be mention that this coupled with a huge patch - details on Bungie"s website.

While Destiny was released back in 2014, interest in the game hasnt dwindled mainly thanks to how the game was designed, and the addition of DLC that keeps things interesting for players. However, it looked as if The Taken King was going to be the most prominent DLC available for the game, and the company had focused its efforts on Destiny 2.

This isn"t the case, however. Activision has announced whats in store for Destiny, with a major expansion on 20September 2016 (Rise of Iron DLC) and a sequel next year (which we come to below).

"Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion toDestinyin 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017," the investor note reads. Activision was also keen to let investors (and everybody else for that matter) know that 25 million players have logged a combined 3 billion hours playing Destiny since its launch. A pretty impressive feat by any means!

What can we expect from the next DLC? According to the Bungie blog, we can expect the Rise of Iron to be something far larger than anything weve seen in Destiny since the release of The Taken King in September 2015. "The first of these early 2016 experiences will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost. The second will be far larger than anything youve seen since the release of The Taken King. Theres even mention of another significant update planned but, this time, focused on the world itself and the sandbox.

Rise of Iron was originallyleaked on Reddit, and said tofeature a new raid (likely Fallen-themed)loosely based on the raid that was cut from last years House of Wolves DLC.

In June at E3 2016 the 20 September release date was confirmed alongside an official trailer, shown at the top of this page.

We discussed Gamescom on the UK Tech Weekly podcast. Listen here:

Bungie at Gamescom 2016

Update 20 September: The DLC is out now. The information below isstill relevant, but outdated.

Despite being only weeks away from launch, Bungie hosted a live stream during Gamescom 2016 showcasing gameplay from the upcoming Rise of Iron DLC, amongst other things. The best part of the live stream? The Bungie ViDoc, which is around 8:30 in length and is comprised mainly of gameplay footage from the DLC, givingus a sneak peek at what we"ll be experiencing in the Destiny universe in just under a month.

While you can watch the ViDoc below, in summary, we"re given a look at Felwinter Peak, the new home of the "Iron Lords" along with Plaguelands, a new environment. There are other features showcased too - but we won"t ruin all the surprises. Sit back, relax and enjoy the Bungie ViDoc:

Destiny DLC release date andprice: Can I buythe Destiny DLC?

Yes, those of you that are interested in purchasing the upcoming Destiny DLC can do so via a number of different retailers. The good (or bad, depending on your view) news is that the price is the exactly the same amongst retailers, meaning you"ll get the same deal whether you order on the PS Store or order via Amazon.

Those looking to order the content on Xbox One can only seem to be able to do so via the Microsoft Store, while PS4 players can order from GAME, the PlayStation Store or Amazon for 24.99.

Destiny 2 release date rumours: Destiny 2 announced with 2017 release date

Along with the announcement of new DLC for the existing Destiny game, Activision also announced a sequel to the hugely popular game due in 2017. Even though its still a year-long release date window, its great to have confirmation that Activision is actively working on Destiny 2, and that we dont have too long to wait until it comes out. We could speculate that itll be launching at some point in the Summer of 2017 (possibly as late as September) as the first Destiny game was released on 9 September 2014, and the pre-Christmas rush proved to work well in Bungies favour.

Destiny 2 gameplay rumours: What can we expect from Destiny 2?

So, what can we expect from the newly-announced Destiny 2? While details are, obviously, pretty scarce, the developers gave us a little insight into the planning process, while also noting that there will be more information available at some point in Spring. Writing on the Bungie blog, Design Lead Lars Bakken had this to say:

Well be plotting more specific waypoints as time goes on. Right now, there are hundreds of passionate people at Bungie working to turn the plan for Destinys future into the adventures, dangerous enemies, and glittering treasures that await us.As soon as were ready, well share the details with you in all the usual places. In the meantime, well keep the conversation rolling with the team on the support front. Were also gathering up details for spring as the team begins to lock it in.

It looks like well have some more information sooner rather than later, so make sure you check back regularly as well be updating this as soon as we have new information.

Kicks and queues: Destiny"s Rise of Iron expansion is having a bumpy rollout

DESTINY RISE OF IRON GAMEPLAY | Destiny Rise of Iron Campaign Full Walkthrough | #TEAMPORTUGAL

320,000 and counting

The Destiny: Rise of Ironexpansion rolled out this morning at 5AM ET.

Well, it was supposed to at least, before it was hit by hundreds of thousands of players attempting to get in at once, resulting in crashes. A few people I know were able to circumvent the bottleneck by staying logged in from earlier this morning, which allowed them to obtain their new rewards from the Postmaster, but then they were promptly kicked and placed into a queue.

A queue, mind, that"s over 200,000 strong, and also has its own set of disconnects. Just a few moments ago I was roughly 500th in line and ready to go until I was kicked and placed at the back. Several folks have gotten in, but for now, I wouldn"t call out of work until all this dust has settled.

Destiny Rise of Iron expansion: Here"s everything you need to know

Destiny: Rise of Iron Release Date and Details Leaked. Old Gen Dropped?

After numerous leaks, Bungie today officially announced Rise of Iron, the next expansion for Destiny. During a livestream event, Bungie confirmed that, as rumored, Rise of Iron will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. All of the game"s previous expansions were released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.

Rise of Iron launches on September 20, priced at $30. However, it does also require the Destiny base game, as well as The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King.

"Rise of Iron is an exciting addition to the Destiny universe," Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said in a statement. "We are continually blown away and inspired by the growing Destiny community"s energy and enthusiasm."

The expansion includes new areas, including The Plaguelands and Felwinter Peak. Additionally, the Destiny starting area, The Wall, has been recreated as a new area you can revisit.

Players will also find a new raid, new and updated strikes, and more patrols and public events. Multiplayer fans may be happy to learn, too, that there will be more Crucible maps and features, while Rise of Iron also adds new CG and in-game cinematics.

Additionally, Rise of Iron comes with a new Light level increase (an unspecified "significant Light increase," developers said) and a new "mutated" enemy faction of the Fallen.

One of the new weapons is a "flaming waraxe," which is an "encounter-specific weapon," developers said. This suggests it may not be available in Crucible matches. Here is what it looks like.

Activision

In terms of story, here is the official description:

"Guardians must rise to the challenge to take their place as the next generation of Iron Lords. Along the way they will join forces with a legend from humanity"s Golden Age to defeat a plague of unstoppable evil once and for all."

Also during the livestream event, Bungie confirmed that the fan-favorite Gjallarhorn weapon is returning for Rise of Iron. Everyone can get it by completing a mission, while people who preorder will receive a limited-edition black-and-silver version of the gun.

Similar to past Destiny expansions, there will also be items exclusive to PlayStation players for a period of time. Bungie did not announce this content today, but said more details on this, and other things related to Rise of Iron, are coming "at a later date."

At the end of the livestream today, Bungie teased that more details may be shared at E3 2016 next week. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on Rise of Iron.

Looking ahead, Bungie will release a Destiny sequel in 2017; according to a report, the game was recently rebooted.
