NYC Weather Forecast: Winter Heat Wave Will Continue This Week

NYC Weather

NEW YORK, NY The freakishly pleasant weather NYC saw over Presidents Day weekend is expected to continue through the week, peaking Thursday afternoon with a high temperature around 68 degrees, according to government weather forecasters.

Monday"s highs in the mid-50s will dip slightly Tuesday to around 47 degrees, forecasters said still a few degrees above the norm for this time of year.

And by Wednesday, "a warm front will be moving through," according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday"s temps should top out around 60 degrees. Some clouds in the morning are expected to give way to sunny skies by afternoon.

Thursday will be even hotter, with a predicted high of 68 degrees.

"Thursday still looks like the warmest day of the week with the potential for record high temperatures," the weather service said.

If the mercury surges past 70 degrees Thursday afternoon on the weather service"s Central Park thermometer, the day would break a heat record set back in 1985.

(No heat records were broken in Central Park over the weekend. However, heat records set in 1997 were broken at JFK Airport and LaGuardia Airport on Sunday, where the afternoon highs were recorded at 68 degrees and 69 degrees, respectively.)

This coming Friday and Saturday should be a little cooler than Thursday, but still crazy warm for the season, with highs around 61 degrees. Some rain showers are expected to fall on both days.

Meteorologists are still relatively unsure where the weather"s whims will turn from there. However, the weather service is guessing a "cold front" will move through NYC "sometime late Saturday into Saturday night, with high pressure building for the end of the weekend. This signals a return to more seasonable temperatures."

NYC weather: Coldest temperatures of season possible for Valentine"s Day weekend, meteorologist says

NYC Weather

New Yorkers are in for a weather double whammy this week first more snow, then below-zero wind chill.

Between 3 and 5 inches of snow is expected to fall on New York City this evening, with a winter weather advisory in effect from 6 p.m. to noon Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Around New York City, snowfall is expected around 9 p.m. and overnight, with flurries lasting through the morning and even into Thursday, said FayeBarthold, a meteorologist in the service"s Long Island office.

Temperatures should reach the 40s on Wednesday, but it just keeps getting colder from there. Highs are expected to drop by about 10 degrees each day until Sunday, when they might reach only the high teens, Barthold said.

Saturday night lows could be in single digits, which would make itthe coldest night New Yorkers have seen this season, she said.

And for an added freeze on the night before Valentine"s Day,wind chills are predicted to drop as low as 10 to 15 degrees below zero Saturday night into Sunday morning.

"Saturday night would be a good night to stay in," Barthold said.

Lets just call that Mother Natures revenge on behalf single New Yorkers.

Weather NYC: First snow of 2016 possible Tuesday

New York Snow 2016 - Weather
Complete weather

New York City may see its first snow day of 2016 on Tuesday, only a few days after an unusually warm weekend.

The NYC Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert for Tuesday and anticipates that the snowfall will commence after 4:00 p.m. Rain is expected before the snowfall.

Meteorologists predict less than half an inch of snow, but warn that some icy spots may develop on roads.

This could be coming down during part of the rush hour so visibility could be reduced under the heavier snow that might fall, so leave plenty of time to get to where you need to go, advised Joe Pollina, a New York meteorologist at the National Weather Service.
