Argentina beat Bolivia to secure top spot in Group D

Argentina vs Bolivia 3-0 HD All Goals & Highlights 15/06/2016

Argentina brushed aside Bolivia 3-0 to finish as Copa America Group D winners.

Erik Lamela, Ezequiel Lavezzi and defender Victor Cuesta were all on target in the first half before the second became a training exercise for the Albiceleste.

Argentina"s 10 goals in the group stage equalled the record for the competition, in its centenary edition, and they will face surprise package Venezuela in their quarterfinal in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Argentina were on the front foot from the outset and took the lead in the 13th minute when Edward Zenteno crudely brought down Lavezzi and Lamela"s free kick went in via a deflection off Yasmani Duk in the wall.

And almost immediately it was 2-0 when, from Facundo Roncaglia"s cross, Gonzalo Higuain"s header was only parried and Lavezzi pounced right-footed.

Duk was forced off with a bizarre injury when teammate Luis Gutierrez robustly blocked Roncaglia and he clashed heads with the Bolivia frontman, who was replaced by Diego Bejarano.

Half an hour elapsed before the crowd began chanting for Lionel Messi, who was left on the bench, though they broke off to cheer a third goal when Bolivia failed to clear a set-piece and Lavezzi"s cross-shot was diverted in by Cuesta for his first international goal.

Bolivia keeper Carlos Lampe saved from Higuain in first-half stoppage time.

Messi was introduced at the break but Bolivia"s Jhasmani Campos tried to steal his thunder by going for goal directly from the kick-off, his side"s first attempt.

Messi whipped a free kick just wide, nutmegged Lampe having been flagged offside and then shot just over from long range with the keeper off his line, but the match had long since dissolved into an exhibition.

Argentina finished having had 82 percent of possession, completing 757 passes to Bolivia"s 61.

Argentina vs. Bolivia | Copa America Centenario Match Preview

Argentina vs. Bolivia | 2016 Copa America Highlights

Argentina vs. BoliviaCopa America Centenario | Group DJune 14 | 10 pm ET | CenturyLink Field, SeattleTV: FS1, UniMs, UDN

Argentina will try to finish group play with a perfect 3-0-0 record when they take on Group D stragglers Bolivia on Tuesday night.

La Albicelestewill be prohibitive favorites against their South American rivals, who lost both of their first two matches and have already been eliminated from contention for the knockout stages. A win or a draw would seal Group D for Leo Messi and friends, and they could even secure the top spot with a loss pending the result of the preceding Chile-Panama match.

Will Messi get a start?

After missing Argentinas opener against Chile due to a back injury, Messi got his tournament off to a torrid start against Panama last week, coming on for the final 30 minutes and scoring a hat trick in their 5-0 victory.

Manager Gerardo Martino said Messi will play on Tuesday night, but didnt commit to starting the Barcelona superstar.

Messi will play in the game, Martino said, in his pregame press conference. We will do what we believe [best], according to the opinion of the player and the doctor. It seems to me that Leo lost his fear in the game against Panama. [When scoring his first goal] Leo made a run at speed and he felt more comfortable, much better in the game. As the days pass he will feel even better still.

Di Maria in doubt

Messi isnt the only Argentina star with an injury concern. Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria left Fridays win against Panama late in the first half due to an adductor injury and, despite making a partial return to training on Monday, is unlikely to play on Tuesday.

Ive seen him running around the pitch, and I see him in good spirits as well, Martino said. But I cant tell you when he will be available to play.

Regardless of whether or not they finish first or second in Group D, Argentina will play in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Martino didnt yet know if Di Maria would be available for that game.

Battling Bolivia

Theyre already out of the running for the Knockouts, but Bolivia have been feisty in both of their first two Copa America Centenario matches. They entered the final minutes of both of their games tied at 1-1, but allowed an 87th-minute Blas Perez strike in their 2-1 opening loss against Panama and were buried by a 100th-minute (yes, you read that right) penalty in Fridays 2-1 loss to Chile.

Boliviawill hope to put up a similar fight against Argentina in their Copa finale on Tuesday night.La Albicelesteare a different animal, however, andBolivia will need to be at their sharpest just to keep it close.
