Suicide Squad: Trailers, Premiere Date, Story Details, and More

Suicide Squad - Official Trailer 1 [HD]

Certainly once the most unlikely movie on Warner Bros. slate of DC Comics superhero movies (yes, even more unlikely thanAquaman) wasSuicide Squad. But here we are with a movie about Harley Quinn, Mister J, and the rest of the gang within reach.

The DC superhero schedule will only be officially two movies old in 2016.Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justicearrives in March, and is focused on introducing as many heroes as possible in advance of the 2017Justice Leaguemovie. Rather than jumping right in for more solo films, Warner Bros. opted to do something unexpected and start building up their villains...and that"s whereSuicide Squadcomes in.

We probably shouldn"t be too surprised. Warner Bros.(along with DC Entertainment) has been quietly positioning the Suicide Squad for stardom over the last several years. Froma well-received appearance onArrowto an animated film where they co-headlined with Batman to a continued profile-raising in the pages of the comics, it"s been clear for some time that there were plans for the team. Well, it turns out that plan included a major movie with an all-star cast.

Now hit the drop down to navigate around for more information about the movie!

UPDATED: Suicide Squad trailer premieres at Comic-Con, complete with Jared ...

Fans of Squads and the suicidal people who join them got a treat at todays Warner Bros. Comic-Con panel, with the studio releasing the first official trailer for its Suicide Squad movie. Sadly, the trailer hasnt made its way online yet, but it apparently gave fans a look at most of the members of the teamincluding the first live-action glimpse of Jared Letos Joker. (The entire video was apparently set to a creepified version of The Bee Gees I Started A Joke, to give you an idea of how much emphasis was put on the role.)

Speaking of Leto, he was the only member of the movies cast who wasnt in attendance at the panel, with director David Ayers parading Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and the rest of the Squad out to wave at the cheering crowd. (Robbies Harley Quinn was apparently another focus of the trailer, appearing in a Hannibal Lecter-esque cage and speaking with Viola Davis Amanda Waller.)

Once the video makes its way to the internet, well be sure to pass it along, but for now, we can all go back to imagining all the cool things that must have happened. Deadshot shooting people! Amanda Waller glaring at people! Captain Boomerang, throwing stuff, imbued with a cocky confidence inspired by its inevitable return! And if your imagination buckles under all the possibilities, feel free to take another look at that fake trailer the Nerdist put together to help it back onto its feet.

UPDATE: A version of the Suicide Squad trailer clearly filmed on a cell phone by a fan in the audience at Comic-Con has leaked online, and is being hosted over at Movieweb. the visuals are obviously not very good, but the dialogue is audible, and we do get a good look at the Joker at the end. Well keep you updated when the official version comes online.

Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto All Confirmed for 'Suicide Squad'

by Ethan AndertonDecember 2, 2014

After weeks of casting information surfacing little by little, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment have officially announced the cast of Suicide Squad, and it's one h**l of a line-up. Will Smith will be playing Deadshot, Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn, Jared Leto is The Joker, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) plays Boomerang and Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina) is Enchantress. All of these characters form a super villain team recruited by the government for secret missions. Production begins in April and lasts through September with an August 5th, 2016 release set.

Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. says:

"The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayers amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero."

Honestly, with a big cast like this, I find myself much more interested in Suicide Squad than Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice or even Justice League. This is an amazing assembly of talent, and the fact that they're not playing typical superheroes just sweetens the deal. Add David Ayer into the mix as director and The Dark Knight trilogy producer Charles Roven, and I'm starting to have a little more confidence in what Warner Bros. is trying to do, at least with this particular property. Still no word on whether or not Jesse Eisenberg will show up as Lex Luthor, but we've got plenty of time to figure that out. Sound good?
