World T20, India vs West Indies: Lt Col Dhoni has done the right thing by sticking to his troops

BYN : Mauka Mauka - India vs West Indies ICC WT20 2016

MS Dhonis party is not over. And he is a lucky General with skill to boot. Hegoes into the semi-final battle tonight against the West Indiesdrenched with the public"s advice and suggestions on whom to play in this crucial match. Buoyed by a gust of good fortune and a slice of personal last-ball savvy in the tie against Bangladesh and a surprisingly facile win over the Aussies, Dhoni has stuck to the go team.

Of course, if the Windies blow India away there will be a cruel fall from grace considering the fickle nature of the billion odd cricket lovers, all of whom are experts.

When India lost to the Black Caps, armchair mandarins were howling for blood. The Bangladesh win was just a run away from a lynch mob that would have demanded heads on a stick. The party pundits were sharpening their long knives.

So, even if the selection committee has kept its head and done the right thing the fans are quite another kettle. Win tonight and all will be wonderful. Lose and especially because the frontline continues to show a broken wing and there will be more opinions than hats at Ascot.

You can almost hear the wails over dinner tonight if it does not pan out. Screams of derision that he did not take Ajinkya Rahane. What do Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina do except appear only to disappear? Even Rohit Sharma looks disinterested. Time for new blood. Whaaat, we couldnt win in your own back yard. Shudder to imagine what a dose Ashish Nehra will get if he is gayle-d. And every Hardik Pandya no-ball will produce a quadrophonic groan.

Sensibly, Dhoni knows that the composite picture is more important than its pieces. To fragment a team that is peaking at just the right time is foolish. Translated into morale that collective factor becomes vital. Take Yuvraj who is injured and the only one out. You may think, phew, thank goodness. We might regret that injury.

He gets that crucial wicket, he stays for his painfully fought 20 odd runs and has served as the perfect foil for the brilliant Virat Kohli in back to back innings. Without the visually unspectacular Yuvraj effect India may have been out of the tournament...He was a bit of a mascot and a rallying point. Like if Yuvi can do it so can I.

Even if we make it to the finals, stay with same gang. These guys have enjoyed each others company on and off the field where even the banter on the bus and the wisecracks have been a bonding factor.

Even the two openers, Rohit and Dhawan, who have had poor runs bring something to the table. Dhawan takes his catches and Rohit sprays confidence over the team even when he is not playing well. Raina pushes the chariot with his slip catches and just adds a little zest to the team spirit, gingers them up as does Ravindra Jadeja with his humour and his hey this is no big deal how come he got two wickets bowling capability.

Nehra plays mother and pours encouragement without saying when. These guys have one thing in common. They are pumped and primed for a big score and a good showing and this evening could be the moment.

It has been said, If it ain"t broke, dont fix it. This is where the Dhoni smarts has come into play. Anyone who has ever worn a uniform will tell you that the espirit de corps is as vital as a bullet in the gun when you face the adversary.

Dhoni, being an honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, understands that aspect. Keep the boys together and get out there tonight and play for the team. Odds are unless it is a complete mess up, it should be a walk in the park. Just carry your rabbits foot and the boys will carry themselves, skipper.

How Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt Coped After the Suicide of Their Beloved Brother and Son, Carter Cooper

Gloria Vanderbilt"s New Revelation Shocks Son Anderson Cooper | The View
It"s been 28 years since Carter Cooper"s death by suicide at age 23, but brother Anderson Cooper and mom Gloria Vanderbilt say they have still not achieved closure and actually detest that word.

"The most terrible word in the English language, "closure," " Vanderbilt, 92, says in a recent interview with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle.

"It doesn"t exist. There"s no such thing," adds Cooper, 48.

Carter left a permanent hole in their hearts after he died in July 1988 after swinging off the terrace wall of his mother"s 14th floor Manhattan apartment. His passing came ten years after the death of Carter and Anderson"s father, author Wyatt Cooper, a man Anderson and Vanderbilt both describe as the glue who held the family together.

Vanderbilt, who looked on helplessly during Carter"s final moments, says her bond with Anderson became stronger after Carter"s death, even if holidays like Christmas were never the same.

"Well, I remember the first Christmas we were together after it happened cause he died July 22 and we went to the movies," she says while looking over at Anderson. "And then we went to the automat, and from then on we"ve never done anything about Christmas."

Anderson agrees with his mom, then adds: "I think it obviously brought us together in ways and I think you can"t help but come closer going through something like that, and, you know, it left us with each other. And, I think it"s still hard to believe it"s been so long because I think it"s still so present in our lives, that sense of loss."

Watch more of The Jess Cagle Interview with Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt all this week on People.com.

The television journalist painfully ponders the person his brother (who would have been 50 this year) might have become, and how their relationship could have deepened over the years.

Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper

Jeff Riedel

"I think it"s hard for me to imagine that he would be 50," Anderson says. "It"s stunning for me to think of how long ago it was that he died, that I"ve lived more of my life without him than I lived with him. That"s incomprehensible to me. He"s forever frozen in time."

"When we were growing up, I used to imagine us being adults and being closer when we were adults and having families and kind of getting to know each other in a new way, and we never had that opportunity," he continues.

Anderson, a 60 Minutes contributor and anchor of CNN"s Anderson Cooper 360, also reflects on how his brother"s death affected his career choices, and how his work in turn helped him make sense of his personal loss.

"I started going overseas and going to places where life and death was very real and where people were suffering tremendous losses. Hearing their stories and hearing people talk about it sort of helped me to get to a place where I could talk about it, I think," he explains.

Vanderbilt, meanwhile, has always welcomed people telling stories about Carter, even if they felt awkward bringing him up.

Donald Trump on the cover of PEOPLE

"Some people ... who knew Carter will start to talk about him and then say, "Oh, I"m sorry." And I say, "No, I love to talk about him. More, more, more." Because that brings him alive and it brings him closer and it means that he hasn"t been forgotten."

Vanderbilt says Carter lives on in her memories, even if after nearly 30 years it"s getting increasingly difficult to separate memories from myth.

"I think that maybe it was some kind of dream that happened and he seems so real to me still ... Does that make any sense?" she says.

"You"re saying you still dream of him?" Anderson asks in response.

"Yes, I do," she replies.

"And the dream feels very real?" he asks.

"The dream feels absolutely real," she says. "Just as a real as we are here."

Cooper and Vanderbilt"s relationship will be featured in an upcoming HBO documentary and, before that, in a memoir, The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son Talk About Life, Love, and Loss, due out April 5.

Halle Berry debuts on social media with t*****s shot

Halle Berry on Differences Between Her Son and Daughter

Halle Berry stirred up social media on Tuesday by launching accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with a sexy snap.

The Oscar winner picked a provocative photo of herself t*****s from behind to kick off her online presence.

Halle, who dared to bare all in the movie Swordfish, kept her back to camera in the shot, which appeared to be taken during a forest walk.

She shared the saucy snap across all three platforms as she joined the social media world in a big way.

Halle added a caption to the post on Instagram, which read: "Hi everyone. Welcome! Today is a very exciting day for me... I"m looking forward to sharing our world through images that reflect my emotions and perceptions.

"I am in awe of photography and its ability to capture and reflect this extraordinary world that we live in. I"m excited to share with you my love of nature, the arts, fashion and much more in the hopes that the images will inspire, promote conversation and bring you joy."

After officially logging on, the 49-year-old actress signed up to follow Adele, Alicia Keys, and Bruno Mars on her social media accounts.

Halle has just returned from a family vacation with her estranged husband Olivier Martinez.

The Oscar winner split from the French actor in October of last year, after two years of marriage, and they both subsequently filed papers for divorce in a Los Angeles court, but last week, the former couple was photographed together as they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport to board a flight with their two-year-old son Maceo and the actress" eight-year-old daughter Nahla, from her relationship with French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.

Lawyers say Donald Trump under "continuous" IRS audit

Pennsylvania Turnpike Snow Disaster: Wendy Bell goes one on one with PEMA Director

APPLETON, Wisconsin (AP) - Tax counsel for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in a letter released Wednesday that the billionaire businessman has been under continuous IRS audit for more than a decade.

In the letter, released by the Trump campaign to demonstrate that the candidate is in fact under audit, Sheri Dillon and William Nelson wrote that Trump"s personal federal tax returns "have been under continuous examination by the Internal Revenue Service since 2002, consistent with the IRS"s practice for large and complex businesses."

The attorneys said the examinations of returns for years 2002 to 2008 "have been closed administratively by agreement with the IRS without assessment or payment, on a net basis, of any deficiency," while the examinations for the years 2009 and onward are "ongoing."

Trump has cited the audits as the reason he refuses to release his tax returns for public examination.

The release came as Trump was facing intense scrutiny for comments he"d made earlier in the day on abortion. Trump said during a televised town hall taping that women should be punished for getting abortions if they are ever made illegal. He later reversed himself, issuing a statement saying that abortion providers, not women, are the ones who should be held legally responsible.

The letter is dated March 7, more than three weeks ago.

The attorneys also wrote that Trump"s personal federal income tax returns are "inordinately large and complex for an individual" because of the nature of his business dealings.

JONNA SPILBOR:OK,when I saw the video this is what I thought, ifyou"rea reporter chasing afterthe most popular candidate in ahigh-profile event amonghundreds of other reporters andyou don"t go home with bruisedelbows,or abruisedego,or both, you"re not doing your job. This is not a case where she shouldhaverun to the police after that, thisispart of the territory.

AINSLEYEARHARDT(CO-HOST): Part of the job.All right Evangeline, what do you think?

EVANGELINE GOMEZ: Well we have these laws in place to prevent civil disorder. And that"s what"s happening here. You want to make sure that youdon"t yank somebody or you don"t pull themout of the way simply because you want to prevent themfrom speaking to a candidate. You run forthehighest office inthe nation, you"re going to havereporters there. They"re going to ask you questions. That"s part of the game.

EARHARDT: All right well, she is just doing her job.As a reporter, I"ve been thereso many times. And you know, you see an opportunity whenthere aren"t any other reportersaround to get the candidate. You know you"ve got to go backto the newsroom, you"ve got tohave the story. You want that as a journalistbecause we work so hard.So I mean, do you think, and she wastalking on Megyn Kelly"s showthat she wanted an apology. What was your response to that?Did you hear that on March 16when she was on Megyn Kelly"s show? She said, I just want anapology.

GOMEZ: Exactly and I think what escalated afterthis situation was there was asmear campaign against her.And so she thoughtperhaps, hey,I"ve got to protect mycredibility here. And went through with filing acomplaint. Now, filing a complaint doesn"tmean that there are going to bechargesagainst you.Remember, there was an independentinvestigator who went, researchedeverything, and then decidedthere was probable cause andthen decided to proceed with thecharges.

U.S. Capitol Shooting: Gunman Is Prophet Who Once Said G*d Told Him to Seduce Teen Girl

US Capitol Shooting | New Details on Gunman

Larry Dawson, a pastor from Tennessee, was shot inside the Visitor Center after pulling a gunand its not the first time hed caused trouble on Capitol Hill.

The man who drew a gun at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center on Monday previously called himself a prophet of G*d and once said G*d commanded him to ask a teenage girl to come live with him.

U.S. Capitol Police said Larry Russell Dawsonof Antioch, Tennessee, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a police officer while armed. Dawson, 66, was shot by a U.S. Capitol Police officer and is hospitalized in stable but critical condition, police said.

At a press conference outside the Capitol on Monday evening, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said that at approximately 2:40 p.m. Dawson drew what appeared to be a weapon and pointed it at officers during a routine screening at the Visitor Center. One officer fired and struck Dawson.

The police officer was not injured, contrary to previous reports. A female bystander sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident, police said.

Dawson, the pastor of St. Lukes Church outside Nashville, previously wrote on his churchs website that he was leading a movement to urge Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Our assignment is to do the will of G*d in the Earth, he wrote, citing financial independence as Gods will alongside saving souls.

Dawson said he had been to Washington three times for his mission. One time, on Oct. 22, 2015, Dawson yelled, Im a prophet of G*d! from the balcony of the House of Representatives.

Dawson then allegedly ran from cops and resisted arrest, according to a police report exclusively obtained by The Daily Beast. Cops cuffed him, accusing him of assaulting a police officer and unlawful conduct at the Capitol.

The Washington Post reported that Dawson missed a court appearance in November, writing in a letter to the court:

I have been called chosen and sent unto you this day. I am not under the law!...Therefore I will not comply with the court order, nor will I surrender myself to your office.

The Gudmestad family was in the capitol visitors center when the incident occurred. They told The Washington Post that they figured out it was an active shooter before they were officially told so by police, from Twitter. There was just yelling, and they told us to get down, and then the officers got us into the theater, Amy Gudmestad said.

It"s not the first time G*d commanded him to do something.

In 2001, Dawson was fired as a school bus driver in Williamson County, Tennessee, after he wrote personal, suggestive letters to a teenage girl.

Thank You!

You are now subscribed to the Daily Digest and Cheat Sheet. We will not share your email with anyone for any reason

Have notice [sic] that you are gaining weight, and I have notice this over the past few days G*d has brought it to my attention that you may need to see a doctor, possible [sic] you may be with child or pregnant in other words[.] Also G*d has said that it is going to be necessary that you come to my home and stay for a little while, where I can watch over you during this period of time, the Nashville Tennesseean quoted at the time.

In 2003, Franklin was arrested on the charge of harassment in writing for sending the same girl letters that professed his love for her and his desire for her to become his wife and bear him a child.

Dawson apparently arrived in Washington, D.C., on Monday after spending Easter Sunday in church in Nashville with his daughter, according to a now-deleted Facebook post.

As the incident unfolded on Monday, the Capitol and adjacent office buildings were placed on lockdown, and staff were told to shelter in place before an all-clear order was issued after a half-hour. Many staffers and reporters thought the orders were part of a pre-scheduled lockdown drill held earlier that morning.

The Visitor Center was commissioned, in part, as a response to a 1998 shooting at the Capitol, when Russell Eugene Weston Jr., a paranoid schizophrenic, entered the building and shot and killed Capitol Police officers Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson. All visitors to the Capitol now enter via the underground center and its layers of security.

Violence is not uncommon on Capitol Hill.Last April, a man killed himself outside the building with a single shot, prompting a Capitol lockdown.

In 2013, a 34-year-old woman attempted to drive through a White House security checkpoint, striking a Secret Service agent in the process and leading police on a chase to the Capitol, where she was fatally shot. Her young daughter was discovered unharmed in the back seat of the vehicle after it had been stopped.

Three decades earlier, in 1971, the Weather Underground exploded a bomb in a Senate bathroom. No one was injured. And in 1954, four Puerto Rican nationalists fired 30 rounds from a balcony overlooking the House chambers, injuring five congressman, all of whom later recovered.

In 1835, President Andrew Jackson survived an assassination attempt after leaving a funeral at the Capitol. The gunmans weapon misfired, sparing the president, who then confronted the perpetrator, clubbing him with a cane.

Additional reporting by Betsy Woodruff from Washington, D.C.

NBA Executives: D"Angelo Russell A Potential "Star," Julius Randle A "Piece"

D"Angelo Russell Ankle Injury | Nuggets vs Lakers | March 25, 2016 | NBA 2015-16 Season

After finding themselves in the lottery in each of the last two seasons, the Los Angeles Lakers believe they have come out with two future All-Stars in DAngelo Russell and Julius Randle.

Each player has had moments this season in which they have looked like they could fulfill their vast potential and Lakers fans everywhere are extremely excited about their future.

Some executives from around the NBA agree on one end, but are slightly unsure about the other. According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, a group of polled executives see Russell as a potential star, but believe Randle is not on that level:

Among about a dozen rival executives informally polled about the Lakers building blocks of Russell and Randle, a consensus emerged: Russell is a potential star, while Randle is viewed as a piece or an energy guy.

Even though Russell is seemingly viewed as having more potential, many of the executives do realize that both players are extremely young and the Lakers probably wont know how good they will be until next season:

Several executives inserted the caveat that theyre barely old enough to vote and dont even have a full season on their resumes yet. They should know by the end of next season, one of them said.

Some may question how good Randle can ultimately become, but that will only motivate him even more. Randle is one of the hardest workers on the team and is constantly in the gym trying to improve. Even if his potential isnt as high, his work ethic will surely allow him to reach his peak.

If both Randle and Russell can reach their potential, along with Jordan Clarkson who wasnt brought up in this poll, the Lakers will have a great core to build around and should begin climbing back up the standings soon.

Avicii will retire after this years tour, thanking fans and his team for letting me fulfill so many of my dreams.

I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but Ive decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows, he wrote in a letter on his website. Lets make them go out with a bang! One part of me can never say never, I could be back but I wont be right back.

In the letter, the DJ explained that he was driving across the United States with his friends and his team two weeks ago where he realized that I needed to make a change that Id been struggling with for a while.

My choices and career have never been driven by material things, although Im grateful for all the opportunities and comforts my success has availed me, he wrote. I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.

Avicii Announces Retirement From Live Performances in Emotional Letter to Fans

Avicii - The Nights

It seems Avicii is putting the performing aspect of his career behind him.

The popular electronic music DJ announced his retirement from live performances (at least for now) in an emotional letter addressed to fans on his website on Tuesday.

In the post, which begins, "Hello world, thank you for letting me fulfill so many of my dreams," the 26-year-old writes, "I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist."

"I will however never let go of music," he continues. "But I"ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let"s make them go out with a bang!"

Ending the note with a glimmer of hope for fans, Avicii writes, "One part of me can never say never, I could be back... but I won"t be right back."

PHOTOS: Stars at Coachella

While there"s certainly a melancholy sense of finality in the letter, Avicii has taken smaller breaks from performing before. In 2014, the musician opened up to Billboard about needing to take time off to recover from operations to have his appendix and gall bladder removed.

"Since my operation, I"d just been going and going," he said at the time. "I was dropping weight. I needed to take a break."

Pearl Washington "quite emotional" watching Syracuse basketball reach Final Four

Highlights | Syracuse vs. Virginia | Midwest Regional Final

Syracuse, N.Y. Pearl Washington watched Syracuse defeat Virginia Sunday night from the comfort of his East Harlem apartment. After the Orange won, after SU had snatched victory from what appeared to be certain defeat, the most electrifying player in Orange basketball history reacted to what he"d seen.

"Last night, he was quite emotional," his friend, Mark Finney, said. "When they won, he had some tears."

Washington watched with family Sunday as his Orange reached the Final Four. He continues to battle a brain tumor diagnosed last summer. His condition requires an aide to assist him and his fiance on an around-the-clock basis.

"He"s resting comfortably and he"s just enjoying each day," Finney said.

Syracuse players continue to wear their orange warm-up tops with the white Pearl script splashed across their chests. Nike has supplied all its teams with "Always Reppin"" long-sleeved shirts to wear during the NCAA Tournament. But Orange players, some more than others, have defied the vanilla feel of those "Reppin"" shirts and opted, instead, for their personalized Pearl shirts. Those Pearl jerseys were also made by Nike.

Finney said Washington sees players wearing the shirts bearing his name during televised games and from photos others have sent him.

"He"s very, very overwhelmed," Finney said. "The entire family is just so appreciative of the support from the university, the coaches, the current players, the former players and fans across the country."

To help defray costs for Washington"s care, a Go Fund Me campaign has been rejuvenated, said Matt Rose, spokesman for Brandon Steiner, who initiated the Go Fund Me idea. Washington needs nursing care, Rose said. Because of his fragile immune system, Rose said, his home requires constant cleaning.

The Go Fund Me campaign has raised $56,677, "100 percent of which is going toward Pearl"s care," Rose said. Steiner Sports is also auctioning off items to help defray costs. That auction, Rose said, will close Saturday night.

Rose said Steiner visited with Washington recently.

"He"s accepting visitors," Rose said. "People are surrounding him with positive energy."

Buffalo Embraces the Quirky Traditions of Dyngus Day

Anderson Cooper on "RidicuList" for 2nd giggle fit

    celebrating dyngus day in buffalo

Now in it"s tenth year, Buffalo"s Dyngus Day parade draws scores to Old Polonia. (Photo: WGRZ)

BUFFALO, NY -- Dyngus Day in Buffalo, Perhaps in no place embraces the quirky holiday quite like the queen city. At the core of that celebration is the annual Dyngus Day parade, now in its tenth year.

We come down here ever year. We missed a couple of people this year, Bobby D. and his wife are not here today, but were down here every year for Dyngus Day.

And while the low temperatures may have kept a few spectators away, the Broadway-Fillmore area was its typical crowded, noisy, and energetic self for the yearly event. Parade goes had plenty to talk about:

Its the first day Ive ever celebrated it and Ive got to say that Polish people are pretty fun, pretty crazy.

Especially right here weve got a lot of Polish people around here, weve got Sobieski, the Broadway Market, everything else. Its tradition.

Shots of krupnik is a Dyngus Day tradition. (Photo: WGRZ)

Tradition, just like p***y willows and squirt guns. At Polish Falcons Nest 6 in Cheektowaga where the party rolls on into the night, music, food, and plenty of krupnik flows freely despite a shortage of the beverage that put a scare into the celebrating populace. The main reason Dyngus Day brings out scores of Buffalonians and Western New Yorkers every year seems to be something a little more universal: each other.

Dyngas Day in Buffalo is all the Polish people, all the friends, all the neighbors," says GarySieczkarek, who runs Nest 6. "Its like having an Easter dinner or an Easter breakfast that you have on Easter. The whole family gets together.

Its everybody getting together. Friends, family," Tami Kries added.

    And yes, a little mischievousness.

In Poland, its more of a kids holiday so I guess in a way it brings out the kid in all of us.

One of the main factors powering Dyngus Day"s popularity in Buffalo is the city"s large Polish population. (Photo: WGRZ)

The "Trailer Park Boys" got their wish, and it was granted by the government of Nova Scotia.

The province announced more than $810,000 in funding for season 10 of the Canadian cult classic, VICE reported Friday. It"s part of a new film and television production fund that"s replacing a tax credit cancelled last April. A new $10-million fund was announced just days later, after much protest from the industry.

The "Trailer Park Boys" started their own social media campaign to #SaveSunnyvale after the tax credit was cancelled. "I just found out on the Internet here that the Nova Scotia government might be cutting the tax program, the tax credit thing, and if they do that, then the camera people that come and film us and put us on the TV they"re not gonna be able to come anymore," Mike Smith says as his character Bubbles in a public service announcement.

The number of screen jobs in the province went down dramatically after the credit"s elimination, the Nova Scotia NDP said in November they were down 82 per cent from September to December compared to the same time the previous year.

Packers Dip Into Free Agency to Sign TE Jared Cook

Jared Cook Splits 2 Defenders & Rumbles for 49 Yards! | 49ers vs. Rams | NFL

The Green Bay Packers made a surprise move into free-agency by signing tight end Jared Cook on Monday.

The Packers rarely dip into the free-agent market, making the deal a significant one for a team with a history of building through the draft and hanging onto its players.

A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press the agreement is for one year and worth up to $3.65 million. The person requested anonymity because terms of the contract have not been announced.

The signing was announced by Packers general manager Ted Thompson.

Cook is 6-foot-5 and 254 pounds. He spent the past three seasons with the Rams, and could give the Packers the big tight end they"ve lacked since Jermichael Finley"s career ended with a neck injury during the 2013 season.

Last season, Cook caught 39 passes for 481 yards, with his 12.3-yard average among the leaders at the position. In seven seasons, Cook has averaged 12.8 yards per catch. In his first two seasons, returning Packers tight end Richard Rodgers has averaged 9.4 yards per catch, including 8.8 when he caught 58 passes for 510 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

Cook was released by the Rams on Feb. 19 in a cost-cutting move to get rid of the final two seasons of a five-year, $35.1 million deal he signed in 2013. He took a free-agent visit to Green Bay on March 14.

"I spent a lot of time with Jared Cook and he"s a fine, fine young man," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said last week at the NFL annual meetings. "I was impressed with him. So we"ll see what happens."

For his career, Cook has caught 273 passes for 3,503 yards and 16 touchdowns. He played in all 48 regular-season games during his three years in St. Louis and has missed just five games in his career.

Last year, the Packers were the only team who did not sign a free agent from another team. This year, Cook is the Packers" first signing of a player who played for another team last season. On March 14, they did sign defensive end Ray Drew, who spent four weeks on Cleveland"s practice squad last year.

What"s in store for Kansas basketball in 2016-17?

NCAA Basketball 2016. Kansas Jayhawks - Kentucky Wildcats 30.01.16

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Kansas mens basketball coach Bill Self was quick to accept the truth following Saturdays 64-59 Elite Eight loss to Villanova.

We only start one senior, Self said, but the reality is, were not going to have our entire group back.

Although there is uncertainty with KUs roster, the Jayhawks appear to be in a strong position entering 2016-17 even if multiple players decide to leave early.

Heres how the math looks for now: KU loses scholarship players Perry Ellis, Jamari Traylor and Hunter Mickelson while adding freshmen big men Udoka Azubuike and Mitch Lightfoot. That leaves KU with one scholarship available even without any other movement.

The new NCAA rules regarding the NBA draft should leave KUs roster in doubt over the next few months. Under the new rules, players can declare for the draft without penalty to see if they are one of the 60 or so players invited to the NBA combine. Underclassmen then have until May 25 10 days after the combine to decide if they are remaining in the draft pool or returning to college.

Although KU doesnt appear to have any first-round locks, a historically weak draft class could leave many of the teams players with decisions to make.

Forward Cheick Diallo and guard Wayne Selden seem the most likely to turn pro. Diallo, who was buried on KUs bench in the second half of the season, still could be viewed as an intriguing prospect because of his physical attributes and late start to the game. Selden, meanwhile, is coming off his best year and is considered a likely second-round pick.

The rest could be interesting. Forward Carlton Bragg would have a huge role on next years team while stepping into Ellis starting spot, and he has given every indication that he will be coming back to Lawrence for a sophomore season. If he declares, though theres no penalty to do so could he be lured away if he was invited to the combine?

Guards Svi Mykhailiuk and Brannen Greene also would seem likely candidates to gauge NBA interest.

Mykhailiuk is finally eligible he was too young last year at 18 and hes gained some buzz previously in scouting circles. Greene, meanwhile, has the height and shooting ability to impress a team with his offensive skill set.

I dont know how many guys will return, Self said. I dont know.

The good news for Self is that a solid base shouldnt be going anywhere.

Starting guards Frank Mason and Devonte Graham should be back for their senior and junior seasons respectively, while forward Landen Lucas will be in Lawrence a fifth year after redshirting in 2012-13.

If Bragg does return, thats four players who should earn significant minutes. And KU doesnt appear to be finished on the recruiting trail.

The biggest prize is still available. Josh Jackson, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard and the nations No. 1 recruit according to Rivals.com, has KU as one of three finalists, and rumors spread Thursday that he was thinking about committing to the Jayhawks that night. Jacksons decision could come as early as this week.

KU also remains heavily involved with 7-foot center Thon Maker, a five-star recruit who was born in Sudan. Although he has been linked to Arizona State for a while, KU appears to be gaining momentum in the past few weeks.

If both committed, KU likely would have a more talented roster than it did as the overall No. 1 seed this NCAA Tournament, though that doesnt guarantee success. Landing Jackson by himself would at least put KU in the conversation of having the nations best backcourt.

The persecution of Pakistan"s Christians is not confined to jihadists

Pakistan: At least 56 killed, 150+ injured in Lahore bombing

In 2011, Salmaan Taseer, the governor of Punjab, was slain by his own police bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri.

Taseer had been defending the rights of Aasia Bibi, a poor Christian farmhand, dubiously accused of blasphemy.

For Qadri, Taseers stand represented an act of blasphemy itself. The punishment for blasphemy, Qadri sneered, as he was carted away to jail by his police colleagues, is death.

Two months later, unknown assailants near his mothers home in Islamabad killed Shahbaz Bhatti, the only Christian member of the then Pakistani cabinet.

Four months after that, another Shahbaz Taseers third son was targeted by militants who kidnapped him near his home in Lahore. Meanwhile, for large numbers of vocal Islamists, Qadri was hailed as a hero, with his supporters constantly clamouring for his release.

A few weeks ago, things changed. Qadri was quietly executed for murder. In terms of the law, the decision was easy: he had proudly confessed to his crime. But politically, the judges who passed the verdict exhibited great bravery. One of them even had to flee, of all places, to Saudi Arabia to find safety.

A couple days later, Shahbaz Taseer was discovered, deep inside Pakistans southwestern Baluchistan province. Things started to look up for Pakistan and the rule of law.

Qadris supporters werent to be tamed though. Tens of thousands thronged Rawalpindi for his funeral. Fearful of the reaction, the government ordered schools closed and urged television channels to not cover the event. Since then, the supporters rage remains undimmed. They want Qadri declared a martyr, and they want Christian prisoners accused of blasphemy executed.

The attackers who bombed Lahore represent a different challenge. They belong to Jamaat ul-Ahrar, a vicious offshoot of the Pakistani Taliban. These jihadists who favour a more literal and more violent creed - have little sympathy with Qadris mystical Barelvi supporters. In the past, the Taliban hasbombed the very shrines that the Barelvis revere. The only things they seem to have in common are their chosen enemies.

Now, however, they have both the jihadists and the Barelvis made Pakistans Christians and the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif their targets of opportunity. Taking responsibility for the blast, a spokesman for Jamaat ul-Ahrar said they targeted Lahore, the capital of Punjab, because it is Mr Sharifs power base.

Punjab is also the one province that has remained untouched by counterterrorist operations in Pakistan. Unlike the tribal areas, the sledgehammer of military action will be of little use there. Taking on militants seeded across the south of the province will require a more delicate approach, one that only the civilians can lead.

Even as the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar spokesman boasted of his groups massacre in Lahore, Qadris supporters were laying siege to the seat of government in Islamabad. They attacked the metro bus stations Sharifs government had recently built, and remain camped out in the red zone just in front of the governments main buildings.

Mr Sharif is now faced with a series of very difficult challenges. He must protect Pakistans Christians and other religious minorities. He will have to discard his reluctance to take on militant groups based in Punjab. And he will have to assert the states resolve to uphold the rule of law, without capitulating to pressure from a religious mob.

Rosen: Oklahoma"s Buddy Hield solidifies top 10 draft status

Buddy Hield Full Highlights 2016.01.04 Oklahoma at Kansas - NASTY 46 Pts, 8 Threes!

Buddy Hield, a 64, 212-pound senior for Oklahoma, is currently predicted by DraftExpress to be the ninth pick in the upcoming NBA draft. However, with his 37-point output in the Sooners 80-68 win over Oregon, its certainly possible that Hield will move up the list:

Lets scrutinize Hields performance in the game at hand.

Virtually all of Hields offense resulted from the threat of his long-distance shooting 8-13 from beyond the arc, 13-20 overall. From out there, he shoots the ball on his way up, i.e., before he reaches the apex of his jump. This makes for a quick release, but requires a bit more space to get his shot off.

To create sufficient room, Hields pet move is to dribble left, then step-back and shoot. He does this with much more efficiency than when he makes the same move to his right. Still, his stroke is smooth going either way and he definitely has legitimate NBA range. Hield did, however, hoist an airball on a shot that was about three-or-four feet beyond the NBA extra-point line. However, if anything, the fact that he even took that shot is proof of his confidence.

Hield has the requisite crossover and spin moves, but isnt super-quick with the ball. He did net a driving layup going right, taking advantage of a wide-open lane and minimal defensive pressure. The one time that Hield drove left into a crowd, he was forced to throw up an awkward shot that approached brickness. Its not a stretch to anticipate Hield having difficulty finishing against the bigger, quicker, better interior NBA defenses at least at the beginning of his pro career.

Even in NCAA competition, rather than challenging the bigs in the shadow of the rim, Hield pulls, steps back and shoots a jumper in the paint.

Hes an unselfish passer, but gets in trouble (six turnovers) when he tries to unload the ball while hes aloft. Two of Hields TOs came when he failed to recognize a double-teamer moving to clamp him and his dribble was ripped away.

Even though hes a senior, Hields defense isnt nearly at an NBA level. Thats because he routinely plays defense with quick hands and lazy feet. Sniping at the ball does have its rewards he had a few deflections but no change-of-possession steals yet also results in fouls and a failure to force an opponent to make an adjustment.

Hield gives ground when his man drives, and except for his ball-hawking hands, is totally reactive. Indeed, his rather passive defense led to his being flat-out beaten on the only three occasions when he was attacked mano-a-mano.

Even when he was taken into the low-post, Hield never tried to body his man, using his hands instead to try and touch the entry pass.

Furthermore, Hield tends to wander when hes playing weak-side defense. If he never attempts to fight his way through screens and always switches instead, Hield is doubtlessly following his coachs orders.

Whichever NBA drafts him, and at whatever slot hes taken, Hield will enter the pro ranks strictly as a shooter. As with most rookies, h**l be perpetually chumped on defense, plus h**l have a hard time finishing in a crowd.

And despite Hields hot-shot performance against Oregon, it says here that the No. 9 draft forecast is right on.

However, he is indeed a gifted athlete and, in the NBAs New Age of small ball and long-range bombing, Buddy Hield will be just fine.
