WWE No Mercy 2016 Results

No Mercy Kickoff: Oct. 9, 2016

WWE SmackDown recently had their first exclusive PPV in years with Backlash. Despite a tiny amount of matches, including one that had to be outright cancelled due to health issues, it turned out to be one of the best WWE PPVs of the year. Keeping that momentum going forward, up next is WWE No Mercy.

Much like Backlash, No Mercy is another WWE PPV mainstay from the past thats coming out of retirement. It was originally a UK PPV back in early 1999. Then the following October, they did it again in the US and made it the go-to October PPV until 2008. It was also the title of arguably the greatest wrestling video game of all time.

No Mercys never really had its own PPV gimmick (which is probably why it had been phased out), but it was a SmackDown-exclusive show back when they were originally doing that, so theres that.

I also feel the need to mention that the official theme song, "No Mercy" by Kit, kind of rocks.

WWE NO MERCY 2016 RESULTSHYPE BROS AND AMERICAN ALPHA VS. ASCENSION AND VAUDEVILLAINS

Results: After a lot of chaos, American Alpha was able to corner Aiden English with Great Amplitude and pin him.

JOHN CENA VS. AJ STYLES (C) VS. DEAN AMBROSEWWE World Heavyweight Championship

Results:After a very lengthy match, Cena and Ambrose both put submissions on Styles and made him tap. Since they couldn"t both win, the ref restarted the match. Cena took down Ambrose with an Avalance Attitude Adjustment, but Styles ran into the ring with a chair, smashed Cena with it, and pinned him.

NIKKI BELLA VS. CARMELLA

Results: Nikki finally got one over Carmella by dropping her with the Rack Attack 2.0, which is just a renamed TKO.

BEAUTY AND THE MAN-BEAST (C) VS. THE USOSWWE Tag Team Championship (SmackDown)

Results:The Usos did their trademark calf stomp to Slater and Jey put Slater in the Tequila Sunrise. Rhyno Gored Jimmy on the outside, ran into the ring, broke up the submission, tagged in, Gored Jey, and got the pin to retain.

JACK SWAGGER VS. BARON CORBIN

Results:Corbin was able to escape the ankle lock. As the ref was distracted by fixing the apron, Corbin poked Swagger in the eye and delivered one h**l of an End of Days. Corbin wins.

THE MIZ (C) VS. DOLPH ZIGGLERIntercontinental Championship vs. Dolph Ziggler"s Career

Results: Once again, Maryse sprayed something in Ziggler"s eyes. Miz hit the Skull-Crushing Finale, but Ziggler broke the pin with a foot on the rope. Ziggler knocked Miz out with a superkick, but Mikey and Kenny from the Spirit Squad distracted the ref. Ziggler knocked them off the apron and ate another Skull-Crushing Finale. He still kicked out. The ref told all of Miz"s allies to leave the ring, causing Miz to freak out. He turned around into another superkick and got pinned. Ziggler is your new Intercontinental Champion.

NAOMI VS. ALEXA BLISS

Due to a medical condition, Becky Lynch couldn"t compete, so she"s replaced by Naomi.

Results: Alexa Bliss put Naomi in the cross arm breaker, but Naomi rolled it into a pin and got the surprise upset. Alexa was left having an angry tantrum.

Results:Orton appeared to have things well in hand, when the Wyatt TV transition kicked in and suddenly Luke Harper was in the ring. He didn"t lay a hand on Orton, but he did distract him via making funny faces. Wyatt recovered, grabbed Orton for Sister Abigail, and won his first singles match since the brand split.

Baron Corbin vs. Jack Swagger: Winner and Reaction from WWE No Mercy 2016

After suffering a loss to Jack Swagger on SmackDown Live, Baron Corbin bounced back with a victory over the Real American Sunday at WWE No Mercy.

The rivalry between Corbin and Swagger started a few weeks ago when the All-American American made the leap from Raw to SmackDown after it was revealed that his contract with the red brand had reached its conclusion.

Swagger stood up to the Lone Wolf during an attack on Apollo Crews, which set the wheels in motion for a feud that took center stage at No Mercy.

Prior to their clash Sunday night, however, Corbin and Swagger had a match on the go-home edition of SmackDown.

That bout came to be after Corbin talked trash about Swagger in a backstage interview, as seen in this video courtesy of WWE:

Swagger was ruled the winner of the match when the referee deemed that Corbin tapped out to the ankle lock, although he appeared to be reaching for the ropes rather than submitting.

The official"s ruling sent Corbin into a rage, as he tossed around the steel steps and dismantled the announce table in disgust:

Due to the controversy surrounding the finish, Corbin was given a rematch and an opportunity to redeem himself at No Mercy.

While the match was essentially a throw-in on a card that was already filled with high-stakes matches, it was significant for Corbin in terms of attempting to build momentum.

Even though he won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 in his first match on the main roster, Corbin has struggled to make much progress since getting called up from NXT.

He is in need of continued character development and decisive wins in some of his rivalries, and he had a chance to make a bit of headway Sunday.

The natural assumption when Swagger made the leap to SmackDown was that the veteran former world champion would put Corbin over and help him take the next step by giving him a victory over an experienced opponent.

That is precisely what happened at No Mercy, but Corbin needs much more than a single pay-per-view victory over Swagger to become a major player for the blue brand.

Beating Swagger could be a launching point for the Lone Wolf, however, the creative team must soon come up with an intriguing angle involving him to ensure that he can develop into one of SmackDown"s top heels.
