Seahawks trade Marshawn Lynch to Raiders

Reaction to Marshawn Lynch agreeing to deal with Raiders | Apr 26, 2017

By Seahawks.com

After a year away from football, running back Marshawn Lynch is coming out of retirement to play for the Oakland Raiders. Because there were years remaining on the contract extension Lynch signed with Seattle two years ago, the Seahawks still controlled Lynchs rights, so to facilitate Lynch returning to play with his hometown team, the Raiders and Seahawks will swap picks in the 2018 draft, the Raiders announced. The Raiders will receive Lynch and a sixth-round draft choice in 2018 in exchange for Oaklands fifth-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Lynch, who the Seahawks acquired in a trade with Buffalo in 2010, became a star and a fan favorite in Seattle, rushing for 1,200 or more yards and double-digit touchdowns for four straight seasons from 2011 to 2014. Lynch, who has rushed for 9,112 yards and 74 touchdowns in his career, earned Pro-Bowl honors in four of his six seasons with the Seahawks and was a first-team All-Pro in 2012 and second-team All-Pro in 2014.

More than stats or awards, what most defined Lynchs tenure in Seattle is the way he helped the team establish a physical identity in its early years under Pete Carroll and John Schneider. As a young Seahawks team was hitting its stride in 2012, Carroll said of Lynch: "I think he really is the key element to putting this thing together from the attitude perspective at least."

That Lynch wanted his return to happen in Oakland is hardly a surprise. An Oakland native who played his college football at the University of California in nearby Berkeley, Lynch has always had an incredibly strong bond with his hometown.

#ThankYouBeastMode

Hes committed to the community, hes not just interested in the community, Californias Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom said while attending the annual football camp Lynchs Fam 1st Family Foundation hosts at Oakland Tech High School, Lynchs alma mater.. He recognizes himself in every single one of these kids you see behind me, and he wants to be there for them in the long run.

Hes a guy that didnt take off, a guy that didnt turn back, a guy that didnt abandon them. This is a community where a lot of folks abandon these kids. A lot of folks in my line of work, elected officials, they show up when the cameras are there, then they turn their backs on these kids. This is a community thats a very tight, close community, but a lot of families that have struggles, so for Marshawn to still be around, to keep coming back year-in-year outIve seen some of these kids when they were half the size they are todayand that they know hes still here two, three years later, thats a profound thing. It may not seem like a lot, but they know he came back again, then came back again, and that gives them a sense of continuity in their lives thats so much bigger than a sport, so much bigger than a camp, so much bigger than today. It transcends and gives them a sense of optimism that people do give a d**n about them and that their lives matter.

Injuries limited Lynch to just seven games in 2015, then he announced his retirement with a wordless Tweet during Super Bowl 50. Lynch had an eventful year of retirement, traveling the world, appearing on various TV shows and running his Beast Mode stores in Oakland and Seattle.

That retirement turned out to be short-lived however, and now the 31-year-old lynch will have a chance to finish his career playing in his hometown.

While we wait for word on Marshawn Lynch, enjoy this video: Beast Mode Rises

MARSHAWN LYNCH AGREES TO TERMS WITH THE OAKLAND RAIDERS! BEASTMODE OUT OF RETIREMENT!

Reports are swirling about marshawn lynch agreeing to terms with the Raiders. First he had agreed to terms and then he hadnt, then reports said the two sides were not close, then Lynch himself chimed in essentially telling everyone to pump the brakes. More specifically he said When s**t get REAL Ill let you kno!

Through it all, a deal is still expected to be reached. The talk sounds like its more a questions of when. But with the week about to turn into the weekend, its possible we may not see anything official until Monday.

With that in mind, and as we head into Easter weekend, our own Goro Burroughs has hatched a new compilation. And fitting for the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead, this compilation is set to the theme of Dark Knight Rises.

Enjoy Beast Mode Rises.

May you find all the colored eggs, and eat all the chocolate bunnies you can handle.

After tweeting his retirement a year ago, Marshawn Lynch tweets he"s thankful

During the second half of Super Bowl 50, running back Marshawn Lynch made his retirement announcement by tweeting a pair of sneakers hanging from a telephone wire.

Is he making an announcement of his return in the same fashion?

Lynch tweeted Thursday night a message that reading between the lines could be seen as a reaction to a deal being completed to ensure his return to the NFL.

Though Lynch hasnt specifically said so himself, every indication has shown Lynch has a desire to return to football and play for his hometown Oakland Raiders before they no longer reside in his hometown any longer. He was granted permission to speak with the Raiders by the Seahawks, who still control his rights. He visited the Raiders earlier this month and an agreement to make lynch to the raiders a reality is expected to happen.

Matthew Hasselbeck, Lynchs former teammate in Seattle, issued a tweet of his own welcoming Lynch back as well.

Lynchs tweet may mean nothing at all, but it could also be his way of announcing his return. With Lynch you never truly know.

Marshawn Lynch"s Best Summer Ever - Rolling Stone

Spend the day with Marshawn Lynch

The 2016 NFL season may end up going down as one of the darkest years for running backs. Not only is the league continuing to lean more on quarterbacks not just ones who are breaking passing records like Drew Brees, but also the Cam Newton and Russell Wilson"s of the world who aren"t afraid to get yards on the ground many offenses don"t even feature a single running back anymore because of how dangerous the position is and now transcendent athletes are suddenly tough to come by at that position. Only seven players rushed for 1,000 yards last season; That number was down from 13 in 2014 and 23 such players in 2006.

Because of that, Marshawn Lynch may end up going down as perhaps the second-to-last (after Adrian Peterson) reminder of an era that has made a quieter fade into obscurity than the last seven seasons of Grey"s Anatomy. But Lynch isnt just one of the best football players of his era: Since retiring in February, we"ve been reminded that Lynch is also an amazing f*****g human being to watch live life.

Lynch could be seen wearing pads again on the practice field with the Cal football program down in Australia as they prepared for their 51-31 win over Hawaii last Friday. Before the game, another one of his "actions" (the ones with which hes known for being just about, boss) went viral after Lynch signed a fan"s Patriots t-shirt with, "Seahawks! Beast Mode U b***h!"

That"s just the most recent news about the former Seattle running back to make headlines following his retirement in February.

In June, his interview with 60 Minutes Sports was fairly hailed as one of "the greatest videos" many of us have ever seen as he detailed how he made a career out of running through peoples faces. That same month, Lynch test drove some cars with Digital Trends and talked about Tesla, "frunks," and says he doesn"t have any dance moves, he "just lets it flow." Here here is on July 9, "making men out of boys" by giving a kid the dream of being knocked over by Beast Mode himself at his Fam 1st Family Foundation youth camp:

For 10 years, Marshawn and cousin-slash-NFL quarterback Josh Johnson have run Fam 1st Family with the intention to "improve the lives of children" and it"s not just a flag for them to fly as a tax write-off or to look good to the public (as we know as good as fact by now, Marshawn doesn"t give a s**t what anyone thinks about him), but it"s an organization with a cause that means everything to him.

And that"s when you begin to transition into remembering that there is a soft side to the Beast, if you even knew it at all. Because as terrifying as Lynch was on the field, and as polarizing as he was to fans who viewed him in media snippets refusing to say more than a few words (often just repeating the same ones like "Grateful"), perhaps nothing other than football has been more important to him throughout his career than charity. Now that football is over, it seems that charity and giving could take over.

In April, he spent the early part of his retirement helping build homes in Haiti with Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril. Another former teammate, Ricardo Lockette who was forced into retirement this offseason recently wrote about the time Lynch spent the whole night in the hospital with him after Lockette"s career-ending neck injury last season. "A lot of people don"t know the real Marshawn. They don"t understand what kind of a man he is, and how much he does for his people in Oakland. My goal in life is to have ten percent of the effect that Marshawn has on peoples lives."

He"s also determined to not become another statistic involving rich athletes quickly going broke after hanging up the cleats (a literal reference for Marshawn), with rapper cousin Mister F.A.B. telling The Breakfast Club that Marshawn hasn"t spent any of his NFL money, instead living off of endorsement deals only and being a "cheap a*s..." Seattle"s All-Pro punt returner Tyler Lockett said that Marshawn even helped him with his 401k.

In fact, websites have even cited Lynchs historic soundbites as great business advice such as "I know I"m going to get got, but I"m going to get mine more than I get got though"; "Just about that action, boss"; "If you just run through somebody"s face, a lot of people arent going to be able to take that over and over and over and over and over.and over and over." (Lest we forget Lynch"s best business advice of all: Avoid costly fines.)

Another one of Marshawns favorite activities over the last few years has included acting and comedy, such as his appearances on Conan and making not one, but two cameos on the also-since-retired FX show The League; co-created by Seahawks superfans Jeff and Jackie Schaffer, Lynch was considered a priority get for the couple running a show about friends in a fantasy football league. But despite a prank Lynch pulled during his first time appearing on the show when he pretended that he would miss the shoot and force production to be delayed and cost them thousands of dollars (he was in fact on time), the Schaffers say he couldnt have been nicer or more generous with his time while on set.

"He could not give one single, solitary f**k about what you think of him, but he gives so many wonderful f***s to the things he cares about," says Jeff. "With Oakland, Fam 1st, friends, teammates, and I know there"s all this stuff about him being frugal, but the thing hes not frugal with is his time." The Schaffers note how he"d spend all day with crew, anyone who wanted photos, and even people who were walking over in droves from other shows and stages, just to take pictures with him. Jackie has also always been impressed with how Lynch treats women, which unfortunately has not been the case for many NFL stars who make the news. "I think he has a very good relationship with his mom," says Jackie, "and I"ve worked with him a bunch of times and hes always been very kind to all the women on set. Very sweet."

"It"s been our experience that he"s a very good guy."

Away from the fanfare of viral videos like riding a camel in Egypt, he"s spent a good portion of his summer working on a campaign to turn a SF Muni bus into a "hyphy ride to transport our kids to workshops," that will operate in the Bay Area to make sure youth are able to get education that they may otherwise not get. It may be the one area where Lynch could begin to attract more attention to himself from the media, if it helps kids get opportunities he didnt have while he was growing up in Oakland.

The 2017 NFL Draft is expected to have one of the best running back classes of this century and the likes of Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, Royce Freeman, and others will usher in a new era of the ground game that officially puts the final touches on the previous one that was headlined by a special few, including Lynch. And while it"s sad to think that his days as a football player are over, its more exciting to be left wondering, "Whats next?"

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch listed as questionable vs. Vikings

Top 100 Players of 2015: Marshawn Lynch

RENTON, Wash. -- Marshawn Lynch was listed as questionable on Friday for the Seattle Seahawks" wild-card game at Minnesota, although all indications are that Lynch will play.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll engaged in a bit of gamesmanship following the final practice of the week on Friday, saying that the team still needed to see how Lynch responded on Saturday before making a final decision on his status for the playoff game. Lynch was a full participant in practice all three days this week after not playing since Week 10 against Arizona.

"We"ve got to go to tomorrow and make sure he"s OK after today," Carroll said. "We"ll do that same old thing and see how he"s taken to the week"s work and all of that. He looked good during the week and did some really good stuff. We"ll just use all of the time that we have available."

Lynch underwent abdominal surgery on Nov. 25 and only rejoined the team this week after spending most of his recovery in the Bay Area working out with personal trainers. Carroll had indicated on KIRO-FM radio early Friday that Lynch was going to play but hedged later in the day.

"I have not said yet that he"s playing. I know that"s been out there. We don"t know for sure until we finish the week. He"s looked really good," he said.

Seattle will be without tight end Luke Willson after he had a setback in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Seattle"s Week 16 loss to St. Louis. Willson was a limited participant in practice Wednesday before sitting out the past two days.

"He just didn"t quite get through it," Carroll said. "He did some of the work and practiced with us and just didn"t quite recover. We"re going to take care of him."

Everyone else for Seattle was listed as probable including starting strong safety Kam Chancellor, guard J.R. Sweezy and left tackle Russell Okung after all three missed the regular-season finale.

Marshawn Lynch: 'He really lived up to that Beast Mode'

Right up until the moment he stepped onto the field for Seattles winning drive in overtime, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch stood on the sideline talking to fellow running back Christine Michael.

Lynch stood inches from Michaels face, and he pointed his finger at Michaels chest, at his heart, while he spoke for close to a minute. And then, with his message delivered, Lynch assumed his usual place in Seattles backfield for the biggest drive of the season.

Thats my blood brother, Michael said. Thats my guy. Thats between me and him, but he told me the realest thing hes ever told me. Thats going to always be in my heart when I play this game. That dude, thats one guy I know who can turn it on whenever he decides to turn it on. And he really lived up to that Beast Mode name.

Lynch had the type of performance that has become his calling card in Seattle, and it is a reflection of his consistency that on a day when he rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown he was largely a footnote.

I didnt even know he had that many yards until I came in here after the game, offensive lineman Alvin Bailey said, but you know what youre going to get with Marshawn.

Every collision with Lynch is an act of combustion, and it looked like the Packers were trying to tackle a refrigerator. When the offense had little going right, Lynchs rugged runs gave the Seahawks a pulse, and he rushed for 120 of his yards in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Lynch took a handoff, stiff-armed a defensive lineman, broke the run for 13 yards and finished it by lowering his head into safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix with a 240-pound linebacker clinging to his legs. Lynch hit Clinton-Dix so hard that the Packers safety got up, adjusted his face mask and shook his head.

Ive never seen a man run so hard with so much passion, former NFL running back Marshall Faulk said on NFL Network. They were behind the whole game normally you run like that when youre ahead.

Two plays later, on third-and-six, Lynch broke another linemans tackle and drove five Packers an extra 6 yards while his offensive line pushed the pile from behind.

On that run, coach Pete Carroll noticed while watching film that guard J.R. Sweezy was on the ground, and then Sweezy saw Lynch stand up the five Green Bay defenders. So Sweezy hopped up, sprinted forward and helped push Lynch an extra couple yards. Whats lost in the scrum is that there are few running backs in the NFL who could stay on their feet long enough with five defenders pulling on them.

Its our guys taking advantage of his special qualities, Carroll said.

Lynch broke 15 tackles against the Packers, according to the analytics site Pro Football Focus, the most in a playoff game since the site started tracking such things in 2007. Lynch also has the second- and third-most missed tackles in playoff games.

He was able to take advantage of space and sometimes no space, Carroll said. Somebody had a stat I dont know these numbers but yards after first contact in this game was really high. No kidding, look at the film. He just would not go down.

Receiver Jermaine Kearse pointed to the attention Lynch received as the dominant factor that allowed him to make his 35-yard winning touchdown catch in overtime.

We had a run play, and you saw how many people were lined up in the box the whole team minus me and the defender, Kearse said. That shows you the impact that he has on the game. Players respect him enough to put 10 guys in the box just to stop one player.
