Pixar's new movie turns the human brain 'Inside Out'

So did Peter Docter, one of Pixar's earliest employees and the guy behind such classics as "Toy Story," "Up," and the "Monsters Inc." films. For his new movie "Inside Out," Docter takes us inside the human mind, breathing life into the emotions that govern our daily activities: joy, anger, disgust, fear and sadness. It's a unique concept, and one the 46-year-old admitted was not easy to script.

"The difficult thing on this one was not only did we have to chart the story, but there are two stories going on at the same time the outside story with Riley and then the inside story with Joy," he told Empire Online earlier this year. "What she does affects the human, and what Riley does affects Joy. But the human doesn't know about Joy; she's just going through her life. I'm not sure we've 100 percent solved it yet, but that's been the challenge, having two stories that affect each other."

In the first full trailer for the film, set during a family dinner, we're given a front-row look at not only the emotions inside Riley's head but also those of her parents. It's a hilarious take on communication in family relationships and instantly makes "Inside Out" one of the more intriguing films of 2015.

"As soon as we came up with the dinner scene, that set our future, because it really sparked with people," added Docter. "So the idea of being able to go into different heads, that kind of set our tone."

"Inside Out" is set for release on June 19.

Woman 'Burns' From Inside Out After Reaction to Friend's Medicine

A young mother is in intensive care after having a rare but serious reaction to a friend's prescription antibiotics that caused her to "burn" from the inside out.

Yassmeen Castanada, 19, wasn't feeling well on Thanksgiving, so she took a pill that her friend had left over from a previous illness. Soon, Castanada's eyes, nose and throat began to burn, and she was rushed to the emergency room, her mother, Laura Corona, told ABC News.

Her body erupted in blisters over the next few days, Corona said. She had to be sedated and placed on a ventilator.

"Her face changed within four days," Corona told ABC News. "I would wipe her face and all the skin was just falling off."

Doctors diagnosed Castanada with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare but serious drug reaction that can occur even when drugs are taken as prescribed by a doctor, said Dr. Joshua Zeichner, a dermatology professor at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan who was not involved in treating Castanada.

"You're not truly burned, but what happens is you have compromised the skin barrier function," Zeichner said.

PHOTO: Yaasmeen Castanada has been hospitalized for three weeks as a result of a rare reaction called Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Inflammation and blistering occur on the outer layer of skin as well as the lips, eyes and genitals, leaving the patient vulnerable to infection and unable to properly balance electrolytes and stay hydrated, Zeichner explained. As such, these patients are treated like burn victims.

"You get very painful lesions on your skin that are basically blisters," said Neil MacKinnon, dean of the University of Cincinnati's Winkle College of Pharmacy. "Your whole body is in excruciating pain."

Castanada was eventually transferred to the University of California Irvine's burn unit, where doctors said over 70 percent of her body was damaged, Corona said. She's undergone several surgeries over the past few weeks, but her feet are still blistering.

Zeichner said he sees it most often with antibiotics, but MacKinnon said this sometimes fatal reaction is different from most reactions to antibiotics, which are usually limited to gastrointestinal symptoms.

"Unfortunately, we have no way of predicting who would have this type reaction," Zeichner said, advising that patients only take prescriptions given to them by their doctors. He said they should report any reactions following new medicines immediately to their doctors. And, if necessary, go to the emergency room.

Though Castanada is expected to miss her baby's first Christmas, Corona said she has hope her daughter will survive. Another patient with Stevens-Johnson syndrome spent two months in the same hospital and went home on Tuesday.

"Heartbreaking, just unreal," Corona told ABC's southern California station KABC. "Just watching your daughter burn in front of you, literally burn in front of you."

A few things about San Francisco weather:

  • It's a rare day when everything about San Francisco weather is exactly "average." Use the climate information above to get an idea of what things will be like, but check the short-range forecast just before you travel.
  • This may sound wrong unless you're familiar with Pacific coastal weather patterns, but San Francisco's driest month (June) gets the least sun, with lots of fog that keep things chilly.
  • When we say it's cold on June and July evenings, we aren't joking. Fog is wet and it generates a cold, damp wind as it comes in. I've been in the city for both holidays and know from experience that Fourth of July night can feel colder than New Year's Eve.
  • San Francisco is at its best in spring and fall, when skies are clearer and rain less likely.
  • San Francisco weather is almost always cool in the evening, especially near the ocean.

Hip hop star J. Cole learns firsthand why Dennis Smith Jr. is so highly rated

J. Cole learned about Dennis Smith Jr.s athletic ability firsthand. / Getty Images

Dennis Smith Jr. has amassed millions of views on his highlight videos for his propensity to throw down ferocious dunks; usually at the expense of a defender turned poster victim.

But it was his block during a pickup game last weekend at Honeycutt Elementary (Fayetteville, N.C.) that may very well go down as his most memorable highlight.

Why?

It was against one of hip hops biggest stars J. Cole.

He came out aggressive the first game and scored a good amount of his teams buckets, Smith said of the Grammy nominated artist. Then I was like, Wow, dude can hoop for real! It was more competitive than I expected, and that in itself was respectable.

Cole, whose album 2014 Forest Hills Drive dropped on Dec. 9, was in his hometown of Fayetteville, N.C., and wanted to meet the Trinity Christian (Fayetteville, N.C.) star, who is the top ranked point guard in the ESPN 60 for 2016.

It was J. Coles idea for the two to square-off; hes known as one of hip hops best hoopers.

Still, on this particular play, he got an up-close look at Smiths exceptional athleticism.

J. Cole took a pass at the top right of the key then swung the ball to his teammate on the right wing and made a textbook cut for the give-and-go.

Thats when J. Coles teammate made a crisp pass to him and he attempted to finish the play with a right-handed layup.

Too bad Smith was on the backline; he sprung up and swatted J. Coles shot off the middle of the backboard before it went sailing out of bounds.

J. Coles post layup-denial course of action?

A quick dap-up.

Respect achieved.

The feeling was mutual for Smith.

He can definitely hoop, Smith said. It was a good run; definitely looking forward to the next one!

Check out the big block below.

Source: Phillies trade Jimmy Rollins to Dodgers

Updated: 10:30 p.m.

SAN DIEGO Jimmy Rollins, an iconic Phillie who became the franchises all-time hits leader in the summer of 2014, has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, an industry source told CSNPhilly.com on Wednesday afternoon.

The Phillies have not confirmed the deal. Sources say there is some salary changing hands and that requires approval of the Commissioners office. The Dodgers were also working on a separate deal with the Miami Marlins that may bring them a prospect that could end up with the Phillies.

Several sources confirmed the Rollins deal to CSNPhilly.com, but Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said, Weve got nothing to announce, on Wednesday night. A source said the deal could take a day or so to finalize and would ultimately bring the Phillies two minor-league pitchers. Though the Phillies and Dodgers have discussed Chase Utley at times, he is not in the deal, a source said.

Rollins departure signals the start of the Phillies' out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new rebuilding effort and marks the end of an era in Philadelphia sports. He was the longest-tenured pro athlete in the city. He broke into the majors in 2000, when he was just 21. He leaves less than three weeks after his 36th birthday. During his 15 years in red pinstripes, the Phillies went from a last-place club to a five-time NL East champion from 2007 to 2011. Rollins kicked off that run by famously proclaiming the Phillies as the team to beat before the 2007 season. Rollins won NL MVP honors in 2007 and a year later helped the Phillies win the World Series.

Rollins won four Gold Gloves with the Phillies and leaves as the greatest shortstop in franchise history.

Rollins had to waive his no-trade rights to make the deal happen. He had previously been reluctant to do that. The Phillies decision to chart a rebuilding course and the Dodgers contending status surely helped him change his mind. The Phillies finished in last place in the NL East in 2014, just as they did the year Rollins broke into the majors.

Rollins leaves as the franchise's all-time leader in at-bats, hits, doubles and stolen bases. He ranks second in the modern era behind Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt in games, runs, total bases, triples, singles and extra-base hits.

Even in his mid-30s, Rollins is still an excellent defender. He missed just 35 games over the last three seasons and his .716 OPS ranked seventh among major league shortstops in 2014. Last season, for the third time in his career, he led all shortstops with in fielding percentage (.988).

Contractually, Rollins fits in well with the Dodgers. He is owed $11 million for 2015 -- the last year of his contract -- and could serve as a stopgap until Dodgers shortstop prospect Corey Seager is ready for the majors.

Rollins is not the only Phillie on the move. Antonio Bastardo was traded to Pittsburgh for minor-league left-hander Joely Rodriguez, 22.

With Rollins gone, the Phillies are expected to use Freddy Galvis at shortstop. J.P Crawford, the teams top prospect, waits in the wings. Crawford, 19, played in the Florida State League last season and could get to Double A sometime in 2015. He is the teams shortstop of the future.

Mary Ann Mobley dies at 77; Miss America starred on TV, in films

When William Faulkner's niece burst into his library with the news that one of her sorority sisters at the University of Mississippi had been crowned Miss America, the Nobel Prize-winning novelist paused for a moment before returning to his typewriter.

"Well," he drawled, "it's nice to know somebody has finally done something to put Mississippi on the map."

Mary Ann Mobley, the 1959 Miss America who described herself as "a short girl with a face as round as a Moon Pie," went on to become an actress, TV personality, and philanthropist. She died at her Beverly Hills home Tuesday of complications from breast cancer, her family said in a statement.

Mobley, who was married to actor and TV host Gary Collins for 45 years until his death in 2012, was 77.

An Ole Miss majorette who was described by the Associated Press as "a brown-haired Southern belle," Mobley projected a down-home, wholesome image even in roles that were supposed to be sexy.

On a movie set, her fellow Mississippian Elvis Presley once upbraided a man who swore in her presence.

"Ma'am," he told her, "someday I'm gonna have a party that I can invite you to."

In Presley's "Harum Scarum" (1965), she was the vampy Princess Shalimar, costumed with "about 17 million yards of orange chiffon and I don't know how many pounds of fake hair," she told the Memphis Commercial Appeal in 2007. She also appeared with Presley in "Girl Happy" (1965), the story of a Fort Lauderdale spring break where, according to the trailer, "thousands of the faithful neck up a storm!"

On TV, she played a wide variety of roles, including stints as a regular on the series "Diff'rent Strokes" and as recurring characters on "Falcon Crest" and "Hearts Afire."

She and Collins were also well known as representatives for World Vision, a Christian relief organization that filmed them interacting with impoverished children in refugee camps throughout the Third World. They also helped establish a group home for children and a hospital pediatric unit in Mississippi.

Born in Biloxi, Miss. on Feb. 17, 1937, Mobley grew up in the small town of Brandon. The daughter of a prominent lawyer, she was raised in privilege. Her family's friends included the woman she knew as "Miss Eudora" the noted writer of Southern fiction, Eudora Welty.

Mobley became Miss Mississippi in 1958. Two weeks after taking the state title, she was in Atlantic City, N.J., with an off-the-rack evening gown and a single sheet of music transcribed for her by the organist at her hometown church.

"I didn't know I was supposed to have an orchestration!" she recalled in an essay for the 2013 collection, "Coming Home to Mississippi."

For her showpiece display of talent, Mobley started singing the Puccini aria "Un Bel Di" but suddenly changed course, doing a mock striptease to reveal the shorts she wore beneath her gown while launching into the jazzy "There'll Be Some Changes Made."

The act "still defies explanation to this day," she wrote. "I was so nave."

Among the contestants Mobley bested were runner-up Anita Bryant, the Miss Oklahoma who became well known as a spokeswoman for Florida orange juice and a vocal opponent of gay rights.

Mobley's survivors include daughters Clancy Collins White and Melissa Collins; a son, Guy Williams Collins; a sister, Sandra Young; and two grandsons.

She maintained homes in Beverly Hills and Mississippi, where her funeral will take place.

Mobley was her state's first Miss America. The second Lynda Lee Mead, one of Mobley's Chi Omega sorority sisters was crowned the next year, about the same time the university became a football powerhouse and drew national attention.

"Mary Ann helped this place develop a bit of a mystique," Sparky Reardon, the University of Mississippi's recently retired dean of students, told The Times. "People were wondering: Where did these football players come from? Where did these beauties come from?"

'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: Mona Returns From The Dead To Haunt Ali

The Pretty Little Liars Christmas special was one of the craziest and creepiest episodes yet. Mona made a ghostly return and A was a total Grinch.

Pretty Little Liarsis back, and ready to get into the holiday spirit sort of. On the Dec. 9 Christmas episode, the Liars attempted to one-up A and Alison (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish) returned to haunt Alison and the boys of Rosewood had a seriously sexy Christmas surprise for our favorite girls!

Pretty Little Liars Recap: Shes Baaaaaaack

Its Christmas time, but the Liars werent exactly feeling the holiday spirit. Especially Hanna, considering all the drama surrounding Monas death.

Emily tried to get everyone pepped up by making Christmas wishes, but Hanna was being a Scrooge.

Wishes dont come true, Emily. If they did, people wouldnt die, Hanna said. (She has a point.)

Take Our Poll

They all had a serious pity party, even a glamorous Ice Ball couldnt lift their spirits. Thats because Alison was throwing the party. The girls noticed a guy watching them from a distance. He came up to Hanna to deliver a package from Mona! Inside the package were drawings of Alis house and a note. Mona told Hanna not to give up on taking down Alison and A.

It was as if Mona knew she was going to die. Liars, you might need to take a note from M.The girls were going to have their hands full with Alison and A.

Different name, same b***h, Spencer summed up. Preach, girl!

Aria picked up a snowglobe from Santa, but it wasnt a sweet gift. Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencers faces were inside the snowglobe, and A left a daunting note: A takes a holiday. You should too.

Meanwhile, Alison was having hallucinations of her mom, and it was the creepiest thing EVER.But not as creepy as Dead Mona! She was the Ghost of Christmas Past, but looked like shed just celebrated Halloween. That makeup was straight up crazy. They flashed back to Little Alison at Christmas time, when she foundtwoChristmas presents with the same gift. When she asked Mrs. D about it, she told Alison to keep her mouth shut.

Alison asked Dead Mona if it was for Bethany, and Monas response was a real zinger. Its not going to be that easy, b***h, she said.

Sadly, Toby wasnt going to be able to go to the Christmas, but that was OK. Spencer gave him a front row seat to one hotparty. She dressed up as a sexy Santa just for him!

Pretty Little Liars Recap: Bad Santas

The boys of Pretty Little Liarswere total gentlemen this episode. Ezra gave Aria a gorgeous necklace and earring set, plus some sexy lingerie. Apparently, the Fitzgeralds go all out for Christmas. (Um, count us in.)

There was a nice Paily kiss this episode, too. They were so cute under the mistletoe.

It was finally time for the Ice Ball, and all the Liars looked like perfect, flawless ice queens! (Especially Spencer. Man, I havea serious girl crush.)

Alison arrived to the ball with her new set of minions. Spencer and the girls bolted to start their next plan of action. Aria and Emily stayed behind at the dance, and Aria spotted Alison making out with Santa!

What?! Did Alison make out with Detective Holbrook, who was dressed as Santa?! I could ship it. Knowing this show, there are about a dozen Santas at that party. Alison started sneaking around and stumbled upon CeCe!Gasp.

Emily confronted Sydney and Jenna about why they were on Team Alison. They werent willing to defy Alison at this stage of a seriously dangerous game. They werent the Liars enemies, but needed to do what they had to do to survive.

We think she killed Mona, Emily said.

We do, too, Sydney replied.Dun dun dun.

Spencer and Hanna headed to Alisons house to investigate, and Toby was keeping watch. However, with each passing minute, he was getting increasingly worried about the girls. Hanna found a passport underneath a birdcage which sparked some intense curiosity.

Back at the party, Emily and Aria followed Alison and CeCe. But it wasnt them! It was one of her minions with the same dress, same EVERYTHING!

Pretty Little Liars Recap: Masks In The Attic

Toby was pretty much flipping out about Hanna and Spencer at this point. He had a reason to be he spotted a hooded figure who was carrying a butcher knife! Spencer was hiding and cowering with fear. Hanna was still in the attic. Spencer texted Hanna to get out of the house, but Hannas phone was downstairs! Run, Hanna, run!

Hanna found a box of Alis notes in the attic. She found a note Alison sent to Bethany! Wait, what?!

Spencer made a makeshift knife out of broken glass. Nicely done, Spence.

A found Hanna in the attic! Before A could do any real damage, Spencer came to the rescue. However, someone else was in the attic hiding behind a mask!

Excuse me while I go cry my out eyes. These masks are getting to be too scary for me.

Dead Mona returned again to taunt Alison. In a terrifying dream sequence, Alison looked upon a casket with her body inside! (*Shudders*) Mona also added the bit about Alison losing her legs. At this point, nothing made sense. A woman in black showed up, and it was Mrs. D!

Am I going to h**l? Alison asked. She cried and screamed to be let out of this crazy dream. Yes, Alison, you are.

Sadly, all the girls were celebrating Christmas without their parents. However, their hot boyfriends had a plan.

THEY WERE ALL SHIRTLESS AND IN SEXY SANTA OUTFITS.

This was NOT a dream. We can all die happy.

They all celebrated together, and Alison watched from afar. After dinner, they walked outside to enjoy the Christmas lights. As always, A had a message.

Merry Christmas, b*****s, the Christmas lights read.

ITS NOT OVER TILL ITS OVER.
