Happy Birthday, Bowie: Tracing the Icon"s Runway Impact

David Bowie - Heroes

David Bowie is perhaps everything fashion would aspire to be, everything it is at its best: chameleonlike, slipping easily from one singular identity to another at the drop of a hat. So its little wonder that hes been a perennial reference for the industrys biggest names. Consider some of his most ardent fans: Raf Simons, Hedi Slimane, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dries Van Noten . . . this list goes on. Ziggy Stardust is undeniably the icons most famous persona but far from the only to come to life on the catwalks. The Thin White Duke has been evoked by both Van Noten and Alber Elbaz (in the same season, no less), while a dead ringer for the striped Freddie Burretti jacket Bowie can be seen wearing over lunch on a train with Mick Ronson turned up at Givenchy Spring 10. And who could forget, in an ultimate confluence of fashion and the Starman himself, when Kate Moss donned one of his 1972 tour jumpsuits for her turn as a presenter at the Brit Awards?

In honor of the legends 69th birthday (and the debut of his new album, Blackstar), were revisiting 14 of the best runway homages to the man who fell to earth.

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch listed as questionable vs. Vikings

Top 100 Players of 2015: Marshawn Lynch

RENTON, Wash. -- Marshawn Lynch was listed as questionable on Friday for the Seattle Seahawks" wild-card game at Minnesota, although all indications are that Lynch will play.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll engaged in a bit of gamesmanship following the final practice of the week on Friday, saying that the team still needed to see how Lynch responded on Saturday before making a final decision on his status for the playoff game. Lynch was a full participant in practice all three days this week after not playing since Week 10 against Arizona.

"We"ve got to go to tomorrow and make sure he"s OK after today," Carroll said. "We"ll do that same old thing and see how he"s taken to the week"s work and all of that. He looked good during the week and did some really good stuff. We"ll just use all of the time that we have available."

Lynch underwent abdominal surgery on Nov. 25 and only rejoined the team this week after spending most of his recovery in the Bay Area working out with personal trainers. Carroll had indicated on KIRO-FM radio early Friday that Lynch was going to play but hedged later in the day.

"I have not said yet that he"s playing. I know that"s been out there. We don"t know for sure until we finish the week. He"s looked really good," he said.

Seattle will be without tight end Luke Willson after he had a setback in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Seattle"s Week 16 loss to St. Louis. Willson was a limited participant in practice Wednesday before sitting out the past two days.

"He just didn"t quite get through it," Carroll said. "He did some of the work and practiced with us and just didn"t quite recover. We"re going to take care of him."

Everyone else for Seattle was listed as probable including starting strong safety Kam Chancellor, guard J.R. Sweezy and left tackle Russell Okung after all three missed the regular-season finale.

New York Giants expect Tom Coughlin to talk to Philadelphia Eagles about ...

Philadelphia Mayor Vows ISIS-Linked Police Shooting “Had Nothing To Do With Islam!”

Tom Coughlin"s coaching career isn"t over just yet, and there"s at least a chance it could continue in a familiar place.

Sources told FOX Sports on Saturday that the Giants have granted permission to the Eagles to speak to Coughlin. The interview is slated for Monday.

Sources in the Giants organization said Friday they expected Coughlin to speak to the Eagles about their coaching vacancy. The sources said the Eagles are interested in Coughlin"s services, which jibes with a report from FOX 5 in New York on Friday night that stated the Eagles requested permission from the Giants to speak with Coughlin.

Coughlin resigned as Giants coach with one year left on his contract, which means the Giants still hold his rights.

A source told FOX Sports shortly after Coughlin resigned on Monday the 69-year-old coach would entertain the idea of coaching again in the right situation. He has four children and 11 grandchildrenwho all live on the East Coast.

Whether Coughlin considers the Eagles job to be the right situation remains to be seen. He didn"t seem thrilled with the organization"s decision to fire Chip Kelly after only three seasons.

"Quite frankly, I"m not surprised by anything in this business," Coughlin said. "But that one was close."

A few days later, during his news conference to announce his resignation, Coughlin praised the Giants for their patience during the early part of his tenure with the team. He was surely referencing their decision to stick with him after a tumultuous 2006 season -- patience that was rewarded with a Super Bowl title one season later.

Coughlin dubbed the Giants a "great organization, people that will support you and back you, people that are real football people." Then, in what seemed like a poke at the teams that have had quick triggers in firing coaches, he added: "That could be another lecture of mine for the National Football League, which I"ll refrain from right now. But [the Giants] are football people. They don"t panic every time there"s a missed third down -- [except] after you go 6-10 twice."

The Eagles were quick to get rid of Kelly but stuck by Andy Reid for 14 seasons, even though the fan base"s patience wore thin when he couldn"t quite get over the hump and win a Super Bowl.

It"s clear Coughlin values loyalty in an organization and would want to hear that"s the case in Philly, despite the move to get rid of Kelly in a hurry. There were other factors involved during Kelly"s regime, namely his desire for control over personnel. But Coughlin would be looking for signs of stability in any potential employers.

The Eagles would surely have their own questions, such as whether Coughlin has enough in the tank at this point in his career. One viewing of his news conference on Tuesday, during which he gave an emphatic speech that brought Eli Manning to tears, should put those concerns to rest.

And perhaps the sight of Manning crying registered with Jeffrey Lurie. After all, the Eagles owner said recently he"s looking for a coach who, unlike Kelly, knows how to "open his heart to the players" and "understands emotional intelligence." Perhaps he believes Coughlin could be that coach.

The Eagles are considering other candidates, and Doug Pederson, a former Eagles quarterbacks coach who has served as Reid"s offensive coordinator in Kansas City, will receive strong consideration. But Coughlin brings two Super Bowl rings as a head coach, which makes him an intriguing candidate for any team.

Economic Woes - Dow Jones Closes Out Worst Year Since 2008 - Stuart Varney - Fox & Friends

This story was updated at 11:55 a.m. EST.

U.S. stocks were down slightly mid-session Friday, having given up an early rally that was driven bya better-than-expected jobs report.Chinese stocks recovered, and oil prices moved off multiyear lows.

Nonfarm payrolls surged by 292,000 in December, and the unemployment rate held steady at 5 percent. October and November payrolls were revised to show 50,000 more jobs created than previously reported, according to Friday"s report. The upbeat report suggests that a recent manufacturing-led slowdown in economic growth would be temporary.

The Dow Jones industrial average was lately down 29 points, or 0.2 percent, having mounted a triple-digit rally earlier in the session. Thebroader S&P 500 index was down 4points, or 0.2 percent. The tech-rich Nasdaq composite index was lately off 8 points, or 0.2 percent.

Fridays early rally cappeda week of volatility in the markets, roiled by the fallout from Chinas attempts to manage its massive economy and currency devaluations. The Dow is now some 10 percent below last years record high.

Before Friday, the Dow had lost 5.2 percent since the end of 2015 in the worst first four trading days since the 30-stock index"s creation several decades ago.

Oil prices rose modestly Friday, boosted by the recovery in Chinese shares, but remained within reach of 11-1/2-yearlows.

Calm returnedto overseas markets overnight. Chinese stocks rebounded, helping to calm bourses across Asia, while European markets were broadly higher Friday, providing hope that the panic-fueled week may yet end on a positive note.

Intense volatility in the global markets this week is estimated to have wiped out over $2 trillion of shareholders" value across the globe.

In company news:

Shares of Qorvo were down 4.2 percent at $43.70, a day after the Apple supplier cut its revenue estimate for the third quarter.

Gap was down 11.6 percent to $23.64 after the apparel retailer reported a larger-than-expected drop in December same-store sales.

David Bowie turns 69: A journey through the iconic singer"s ever changing personas

David Bowie - Girl Loves Me (Audio)

The chameleon of pop has changed his colours immeasurable times. In a perpetual state of reinvention, David Bowie has never failed to keep his fans guessing. So much so that sometimes it can be hard to keep track of whom the real Bowie is.

With Bowie celebrating his 69th Birthday today, we look back at the different personas, which make Bowie the most enigmatic, unpredictable performer of his generation.

The Innocent Days

Born in Brixton in 1947 and bred in the leafy suburbs of Bromley, Bowie was the son of a waitress and a Barnardos charity promoter. A sandy-haired, cherub-cheeked teenager, Bowie considered becoming a monk and spent an entire year studying under a Tibetan lama. Eventually growing bored of Buddhism, Bowie went on to study music and take up jazz on his plastic saxophone. Nevertheless, a series of unsuccessful post-rocknroll bands left the aspiring star a little disheartened.

Ziggy Stardust: A Gay Icon Is Born

After releasing Space Oddity in 1969, Bowie established himself as a solo artist to be reckoned with. Just a few years later, Bowie finally broke through with Ziggy Stardust. His first and arguably greatest alter ego was born. Face daubed with a lightening bolt and mullet hairstyle dyed crimson red, Ziggy Stardust was a bisexual rock star alien who acted as a messenger for extra-terrestrial beings. Dressed in a multi-coloured Lycra jumpsuit, Bowies androgynous, wafer-thin doppelganger came to redefine an entire era of rocknroll. Widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time, it went on to sell an estimated 7.5 million copies worldwide.

Its worth noting that Ziggy Stardusts arrival on the scene coincided with Bowies coming out. In an interview in the 1972 issue of Melody Maker, Bowie declared himself gay. Later, he announced he was bisexual in an interview with Playboy in 1976.

The Conventional Man

By the time it reached the 80s, Bowie had taken something of a U-turn on both his sexual and musical forays. In a 1983 interview with Rolling Stone, Bowie announced that he was always a closet heterosexual and his public declaration of bisexuality was the biggest mistake I ever made. Seeing his sexuality as a by-product of the hedonistic atmosphere of the 70s, he also distanced himself from the alter ego of Ziggy Stardust. In his words, That was just a lie. They gave me that image.

Musically Bowie reached his lowest point in the mid-eighties. The public seemed to lose interest and he found himself performing to what he describes as a Phil Collins kind of audience.

21st Century Bowie

In true Bowie spirit, the superstar has continued to reinvent himself. This can be seen with his latest album Blackstar, which has been released today on his 69th birthday. Distancing itself from the rocknroll most of us associate with Bowie, Blackstar embraces jazzy improvisations and funk fusions. With most tracks between five and ten minutes long, they are nothing like the three-minute pop songs we are used to. Although its been a decade since Bowie performed live and the singer announced that he would never tour again last October, it is clear that he hasnt given up on making music yet.
