Do Superdelegates Matter In The Election? Maybe This Year More Than Ever

VIDEO: DNC Chair Admits Superdelegates Protect Establishment from "Grassroots Activists"

State primary and caucuses are really just a contest to collect enough committed delegates for the national party"s convention to lock up the party"s nomination for the general election. Delegates are the ones who actually determine the nominee, and those delegates are usually allotted proportionally depending on votes. And then there are superdelegates. You"re going to start hearing a lot more about superdelegates in the weeks ahead and you might find yourself wondering, do super delegates matter in the election? The answer is yes. Superdelegates might be more important in the 2016 election than at any other time in history.

From today all the way through spring and into the summer convention season, the whole election is going to come down to which candidates can wrap up the number of delegates they need to finally, formally lock up their respective parties" nomination for president. The Democrat nominee needs to win 2,472 delegates for the nomination, the Republican needs 1,237 delegates to win. In all primaries and caucuses held before March 5, delegates are awarded on a proportional basis, meaning candidates can pick up a few delegates in those early state caucuses and primaries even if they don"t place first in the race. After March 1, the number of state delegates the number each state has at the party convention is determined solely by state population and are all committed to the winner of the race for the convention. Done deal.

Delegates in each state and territory are chosen based on criteria determined by each state"s party officials. Then there are superdelegates.

In the Republican party, the designation of "superdelegate" is just reserved for current state party officers, but they don"t actually have any additional power. They are required to vote along with the rest of the delegates based on the outcome of their state party elections. With the Democrats, it"s a far different story.

On the Democrat side, "superdelegate" is a term given to any current, and many previous, office holders who are part of the state"s national delegation in addition to anyone else the national or state parties deem worthy of superdelegate status. So, governors, members of Congress, and the like. Essentially, the Democratic party"s superdelegates are the epitome of the "establishment" those who are currently in power and have an interest in maintaining their hold on power within the party. And, there are a lot of Democratic superdelegates they make up about 15 percent of the total Democratic delegates. More importantly, those superdelegates aren"t bound to a particular candidate based on a vote. They can cast their vote for whichever candidate they choose and are not committed to any particular candidate until the convention, essentially giving the national party elites more influence over the outcome of the primary process than voters.

This disproportionate influence of establishment Democrats has become a focus of this primary season, because, despite an impressive win for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was able to walk away with far more superdelegate support, practically eliminating Sanders" delegate edge after winning the election. For Sanders" anti-establishment, political revolutionary supporters, the consolidated power of the superdelegate system is just one more way the system is rigged against them. If the race between Clinton and Sanders remains tight, particularly when it comes to delegate counts, the superdelegates could be the only votes that matter when it comes to selecting the Democratic nominee for president.

Ironically, both Sanders and Clinton based on their current and past positions are entitled to vote at the July Democratic Convention as superdelegates. But there are some superdelegates, like Florida Rep. Alan Grayson, who reacted to voter backlash over superdelegates by polling voters to decide who should get his superdelegate vote. Sanders was the winner by a landslide. (Some argue that something similar could happen throughout the course of the primaries superdelegates could change their support if they see more people rallying around Sanders.)

So, keep your eye on the superdelegate counts heading into the Democratic National Convention starting on July 25 in Philadelphia, Penn. Because those votes could change everything.

Courtney Stodden Plastic Surgery: Reality Star Gets Nose Job On Camera

Courtney Stodden & Doug Hutchison on the glue that keeps them together despite generation gap

This move is either a new high or a new low for reality television. Courtney Stodden recently brought the cameras inside the operating room to document her nose job.

The former teen bride has been wanting to change up her looks for some time. If you take a good look at Courtney Stoddens Instagram page, you would notice that shes the spitting image of the late Marilyn Monroe. Now Stodden is taking things further by getting a nose job on camera. The starlet went under the knife to change the shape of her nose, and Entertainment Tonight went behind-the-scenes of the 21-year-olds procedure.

The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant revealed that not only is she not crazy about her old nose, but she also has breathing and sinus issues.

Im not wild about my bump on the side of my nose. In pictures or on red carpets I just feel really self-conscious about this bump.

But Courtney wasnt completely cool about getting her nose done. She admitted that she chickened out the first few times.

I debated and kind of pulled out and got nervous. It took me a really long time to warm up to it.

According to In Touch Weekly, the $13,000 procedure took two hours and had a recovery time of one week to 10 days. Courtney has her 55-year-old husband, Dough Hutchison, around to help her during the recovery process. Once the bandages were removed, Court was very excited to see her new nose.

After the procedure, Stodden revealed that she was very happy with the results. Does that mean that Stodden will go under the knife again sometime soon?

I guess when gravity starts taking over, I might get a nip/tuck here and there, but nothing excessive.

Just three years ago, Courtney Stodden went under the knife to get bigger b*****s. According to the Inquisitr, the reality star also filmed her breast augmentation surgery, which fans saw her go from a size C to a size DD. In an interview with E! Online, Courtney revealed the reason behind her decision and why shes satisfied with her hot new look.

I just love the way my shape looks. I added more curves and it just makes me feel more sexy and more like a woman.

(WARNING: The video of this surgical procedure is graphic at times.)

Then in 2014 it was reported on Hollywood Gossip that Stodden took it too far with her lip injections. The rumors started when she started posting a series of selfies that had her fans talking. Some of Stoddens fans were concerned that she has become obsessed with plumping her lips.

Speaking of selfies, the blonde bombshell has been posting her share of n**e photos on her Instagram page. She is not shy to show off her body. After all, Stodden made headlines when she leaked her own solo s*x tape and made money off of it by securing a deal with Vivid Entertainment.

Like her s*x tape, Courtney always puts a unique twist on her n**e photo shoots mostly involving food. After posing n**e with donuts strategically placed on her private parts to celebrate National Donut Day, Courtney posed n**e on her marble countertop with a plate of cinnamon buns perfectly balanced on her bottom in honor of National Sticky Bun Day.

In the caption, she wrote, Happy National Sticky Bun Day!!! I go under the knife & share the entire procedure with you#nationalstickybunday, she poked fun at her recent nose job.

Then Stodden took to Instagram to share a n**e photo from her bed, which she captioned with the hashtag, #bedbug.

Now Courtney Stodden is set to appear on Lifetimes new reality show, The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition, with her mom Krista. The show will also star Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards and Heidi Montag from The Hills.

Justin Bieber"s Birthday Getaway With His Boys Looks Pretty Chill(y)

Justin Bieber Celebra CumpleaƱos con Joe Jonas, Hailey Baldwin y Mas!

No need to wonder what Justin Bieber was up to for his big birthday, because he kept all of us posted with numerous Instagram posts (bless).

It turns out the now-22-year-old opted to ditch the usual Nice Guy dinner party or nightclub appearance, and instead, got some of his boys together to head up to the mountains and enjoy the snow.

Biebs, bundled up in a big jacket and beanie, shared a bunch of snapshots showing the group admiring the gorgeous sites, which also served to be a great backdrop for some emo photo shoot opportunities (please see photo above for reference).

Unfortunately, the birthday boy didn"t offer up any captions on the pics to give us more insight on each photo, but it"s OK. He"s busy celebrating his birthday, he can"t be bothered to explain what"s going on in every single pic.

It"s no secret that Bieber"s time in the spotlight has been quite the roller coaster ride, but it seems like the singer is currently on solid ground.

The last few months of the Biebs" 21st year have only brought on success for the young star. The 2016 Grammysgave Justin a platform to deliver a solid performance of "Love Yourself," which he delivered alongside EDM collaborators Diplo and Skrillex; the trio also shared the win for Best Dance Recording for "Where Are Now."

Early February brought yet another press opportunityfor Justin, this time a revealing interview with GQ in which he confessed he wouldn"t have been able to clean up his actwithout the help of G*d.

"I feel like that"s why I have a relationship with Him, because I need it. I suck by myself. Like, when I"m by myself and I feel like I have nothing to lean on? Terrible. Terrible person," he said.

Here"s to another year and another chance to continue being better, JB.

BREAKING: CO 2016 Democratic Caucus Results: Sanders Trounces Clinton

What"s The Difference Between A Caucus And A Primary?

    Updated at 9:20 p.m.

Turnout was strong for Colorados caucuses, with youngvoters showing up in force to support Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has been declared the projected winner by the Associated Press.

The state has a reputation for embracing maverickcandidates, which appears to be bolstering Sanders.

The Associated Press reportsthat with 29 percent of the states precincts reported, Vermont Sen. BernieSanders led former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, 58 to 40 percent.

Participants shared messages on Twitter of long waits to getinto their caucus sites, or groups being forced to meet outside buildings aftersurpassing occupancy limits.

    Patch"s Original Story

DENVER, CO Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders predicts that hewill win Colorados Democratic precinct caucuses Tuesday night, one of fivestates he says he will take in the 11Super Tuesday races.

At Colorados Democratic caucuses, registered voters will takepart in a preference poll, deciding between former Secretary of State HillaryClinton and Sanders. On the GOP side, voters will not be polled on theircandidate preferences.

The caucuses start at 7 p.m. Democrats will announce a winnerTuesday night, but the states GOP organization will not, reports FOX Denver.

The Republican Party decided to not hold a straw poll vote in 2016after the national party changed its rules, binding delegates to candidates, reports the Denver Post.

A recent editorial in the Post blasted the states GOP leadersfor the decision to essentially bow out of the presidential winnowing process, especially in a race that at one time had more than a dozen GOP contenders.

    More from Across America Patch

Colorado Republicans will stand on the sidelines on Super Tuesday while otherstates determine whether Donald Trump continues his march toward a possiblenomination or whether his rivals can slow him down, the editorial wrote.

SinceClintons big win on Saturday in South Carolina, Sanders hasfocused his campaign energies on Colorado, Massachusetts and Oklahoma. CNN reports theSanders camp sees the many Southern states voting today with a large bloc ofAfrican-American voters to be in the Clinton column.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper endorsed Clinton"s candidacy in October, while Sen. Michael F. Bennet, Rep. Jared Polis, Rep. Ed Perlmutter, and Rep. Diana DeGette also back the former secretary of state.

Sanders has not secured any high-profile endorsements in Colorado.

SplittingTuesdays states with Clinton could keep the independent senator alive untilthe April 19 primary in New York, and even the California primary on June 7.

DavidWasserman of The Cook Political Report told USA Today that if Clintonslevel of support on Super Tuesday mirrors what shes received in other contests including Iowa and South Carolina she could win 100 more delegates thanSanders.

Thatwould mean that Sanders would need to win approximately 58 percent of theremaining pledged and undeclared superdelegates to tie Hillary Clinton by theend of the primaries, Wasserman said. Thats virtually impossible to do.

Sanderscandidacy gained momentum and attention back in June when he drew sizablecrowds during a campaign trip to Colorado, the Post says. The state is atoss-up, with Clintons campaign sending daughter Chelsea Clinton and actressAmerica Ferrera to a Denver rally a couple weeks ago.

Coloradohas 79 delegates to the Democratic national convention, which are awarded on apercentage basis tied to vote levels, while the state has 37 GOP delegates.

Singer Joey Feek has "a few more days ... at the most," husband writes

Joey + Rory - "Softly and Tenderly"

But Joey Feek, one-half of the country duo Joey + Rory, has only has a few more days to live, her husband Rory Feek wrote.

"My wife has been asleep for days now and her body is shutting down quickly," Feek wrote Monday on his blog, This Life I Live.

"The hospice nurse came again this morning and said Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days... at the most."

Over the past few years, the Feeks" journey has alternated between ecstatic highs and heartbreaking lows.

In 2014, the couple welcomed their daughter Indiana -- named after Joey Feek"s home state. Indiana was diagnosed with Down Syndrome not long after her birth.

A few months later, the couple learned Joey Feek had cervical cancer. Despite intensive treatments and surgery, the cancer spread to her colon and became terminal.

In November, the couple decided to end treatments for Joey"s stage 4 cancer. Her doctors told her there was nothing more they could do for her. Joey Feek was moved to hospice care in Indiana.

Last fall, Rory Feek wrote of his wife"s strength despite her confinement to bed.

"There isn"t a day that goes by that she doesn"t look me and her family in the eye and say "I"m gonna beat this," or "I"m getting better, I believe that," " he wrote at the time.

He also shared images of his wife spending time with their young daughter and dancing with him.

"A few days ago, on the last day Joey walked, I took her in my arms in the living room and once more put her hand in mine and we danced," he wrote.

"She steadied with her cane and I softly moved her across the room singing George Strait"s "You Look So Good In Love" in her ear. In the middle of the song though, as I was being careful not to step on her toes -- she stopped and looked up at me and said, "How about if I lead?" "

    Love story

The couple met at a songwriting even in 2002. Six years later, their path to stardom began after they competed on CMT"s music competition show "Can You Duet."

Their first single, "Cheater, Cheater," had a popular video with a cameo by Naomi Judd. The couple also appeared in commercials for Overstock.com.

And despite Joey"s terminal illness, the couple earned a 2016 Grammy nomination for their performance of "If I Needed You."

In his latest blog post, Rory Feek wrote about how proud he was of his wife"s accomplishments.

"Joey has done all she set out to do... even right to the very end, and by sheer will-power (and G*d"s grace), she was still here to to see our baby"s 2nd birthday," he wrote Monday.

"Over the last number of weeks her pain had gotten worse and her health had continued to decline rapidly. And not long after Indy"s birthday my wife decided that "enough is enough". She was ready to stop fighting and she told me so. She said the flowers would soon be blooming back in Tennessee. It"s time to go home."

CNN"s Lisa Respers France and Tina Burnside contributed to this report.
