Raonic first Canadian man to reach final

Roger Federer quarter-final press conference

WIMBLEDON (CNN) - When Roger Federer saved three match points against Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals Wednesday, you couldn"t help but wonder if destiny was on the seven-time champion"s side.

It didn"t take long to get the answer, and if you were one of the millions of Federer fans around the world, that answer wasn"t very appetizing.

Federer confronted a similarly towering, big-serving rival in the semifinals in Milos Raonic, and this time exited in five sets to quash the 34-year-old"s hopes -- not to mention those of his faithful, adoring supporters -- of becoming the first man to claim eight Wimbledon titles.

Whereas 2014 U.S. Open champion Cilic will feel he should have ousted Federer, the latter leaves SW19 thinking he should have prevailed against the sixth-seeded Raonic.

"This one clearly hurts because I felt I could have had it," he told reporters. "So close. It was really so, so close.

"There were opportunities there."

As is sometimes the case when Federer loses, he went from the court to the interview room almost immediately, not wanting to linger, even if he was at his second home.

"Yeah, so opportunities were all around the fourth set. I think I pushed him on a few service games to get the break. But somehow I couldn"t get it done."

Instead Raonic triumphed 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 7-5 6-3 to become the second Canadian to reach a grand slam singles final after Eugenie Bouchard did it here at Wimbledon two years ago.

Coming up short in his previous two grand slam semifinals -- once to Federer at SW19 in 2014 and to Andy Murray at the Australian Open this year as injury surfaced -- his time has arrived at the age of 25.

"Obviously what happened here two years ago, I was very disappointed with," Raonic told reporters. "Today I sort of persevered. I was sort of plugging away. I was struggling through many parts of the match. He gave me a little opening towards the end of the fourth. I made the most of it.

"The attitude kept me in the match. I think that"s what made the biggest difference. I was quite vocal, but I was always positive. I was always looking for a solution."

On Sunday, Raonic meets British second seed Murray, his conqueror in the final of the grass-court warmup at London"s Queen"s Club last month.

The 2013 champion brushed aside 2010 finalist Tomas Berdych 6-3 6-3 6-3 in Friday"s second semi.

Murray, unlike Raonic, is a veteran of grand slam finals but is desperate to try to better an unflattering 2-8 mark.

Those assembled on Centre Court witnessed history Friday: It was the first time Federer lost a Wimbledon semifinal in 11 attempts. It was probably the first time, too, that Federer called the trainer for two different issues.

At the end of the fourth set his right thigh needed attention, and then at 1-2 in the fifth he slipped -- a further anomaly -- almost rolling his left ankle and appearing to tweak his left knee.

Both incidents may have played a considerable part in the outcome.

Was the thigh bothering Federer in the last game of the fourth set, when he inexplicably dropped serve from 40-0, hitting consecutive double faults from 40-15? Federer, who also double faulted on break point in the first set, didn"t produce one double fault against Cilic.

When he returned to the court in the fourth game of the fifth following the slip, the first point he faced was a break chance for Raonic. Although he saved it, Federer was broken later in the game following a riveting exchange near the net that culminated with Raonic"s forehand passing shot.

Down 3-1, Federer never recovered and Raonic registered a second straight win over the 17-time grand slam winner.

"I had missed my chances by then already, enough," he said. "Maybe I could have stuck around better if I would have saved break points. Very disappointing half an hour there for me, getting broken at 6?5, getting broken again at 2?1, having the slip.

"Who knows what happens there. But it was a very disappointing end to the match for me."

Indeed. Federer led on Raonic"s booming serve four straight times in the fourth, including 15-40 at 2-2 and 0-30 at 5-5, unable to gain what would have been the terminal break. Overall, he went 1-for-9 on break points.

Despite Raonic mixing things up by serving to Federer"s body, his overall serving numbers -- 23 aces and 11 double faults -- suggest this wasn"t his greatest delivery day.

Carlos Moya, one of Raonic"s grand slam-winning coaches -- three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe, who came on board last month, is the other -- pointed to the conclusion of the fourth as the turning point.

"Roger, I would say he kind of opened the door for Milos to have the chance to come back -- and at this stage of the tournament you pay for that," Moya told a group of reporters. "That"s what I think because Milos was struggling a little bit on Roger"s serve and as soon as he had the chance there and he converted, in the fifth set he had a slight advantage (after) coming from behind and probably that game was key."

Entering Wimbledon, Federer perhaps would have been happy enough to make the semifinals given he skipped the French Open and other chunks of the campaign due to back and knee injuries.

But his good fortune against Cilic and the absence of nemesis Novak Djokovic in the second week -- he was upset by Sam Querrey in the third round -- might have got Federer thinking about landing an 18th major and first since beating Murray in the Wimbledon final four years ago. From Murray"s perspective, he"ll be relieved that Djokovic isn"t standing across the net Sunday.

Federer must now focus on new targets -- or pre-existing ones that had nothing to do with Wimbledon.

"It"s not my only reason why I play tennis, just to be clear, otherwise I"ll go in a freeze box now and come out before Wimbledon next year," he said. "I know Wimbledon is important, but it"s not everything, everything. There are a lot of things that I"d like to achieve besides winning Wimbledon."

One, presumably, is winning a first Olympic singles gold medal in Rio next month, having settled for silver against Murray at London 2012.

This year at Wimbledon, though, Murray or Raonic will be doing the winning on the day it matters most.

Ivanka Trump for vice president is far-fetched idea that"s looking more realistic

MSN: Fox News Obama Birth Certificate Boycott Report

Ivanka Trump for vice president isn"t such a bad idea after all, as she"s very familiar with working with her dad, Donald Trump, and she"s already captured the hearts of Americans, so why not? Oh, wait... she doesn"t have any political experience and since the same goes for her dad, that wouldn"t be the best pairing in one aspect, but a really great pairing as far as someone you could trust!

Ivanka a surprise asset

Ivanka Trump was a surprise asset and a welcomed side effect to Trump"s campaign. Anyone who adores their dad the way she does says a lot for both her personality and her father"s, who happens to beDonald Trump. So how did this Ivanka Trump for vice president thing get started?

Senator gives birth to idea

According to MSN News, it was SenatorBob Corker who suggested that Ivanka might be the best pick for Donald Trump, after Corker conveyed that he didn"t want to be considered any longer for Trump"s vice president. He said by far Ivanka is the best person for the job, listing all the qualities that the voters have already gotten acquainted with when it comes to Trump"s eldest daughter.

Ivanka"s brother gives thumbs up

Donald Trump"s son Eric showed absolutely no jealousy when speaking with Fox and Friends on Thursday morning about the idea of his sister on his dad"s ticket. Not only did Eric Trump agree, but he raved about his sister"s beauty and brains while on the curvy couch with the Fox and Friends trio.

Makes age limit by about six weeks

Ivanka turns 35 at the end of October, which means she makes the age deadline by about seven or eight days, Eric said to the co-hosts. You must be at least 35 to bevice president of the U.S. and Ivanka will fit that bill! Thenshe can helpher dad make the nation great again, or so the slogan goes.

Corker was just as eager to sell his thoughts on Trump"s daughter saying that Ivanka running with her dad probably "wouldn"t pass muster," but he said when it comes down to it, "Idon"t know that I"ve met a more composed, brilliant, beautiful-in-every-way person."

Stranger things have happened

It wasn"t even a year ago when most folks, included someTrump supporters, didn"t give him much chance for the real-estate mogul to make it to the White House. Yet here he stands today after beating out over a dozen serious Republican candidates. Trump has a very good chance to make it into the White House even if the polls say different.

He has started a movement and many who believe in the direction Trump is going are going to vote for him. But at the same time, many will exercise the privacy of that vote and won"t tell their friends and family because Trump is so controversial. People tend to either love him or hate him and when a supporter and an anti-Trump critic get together to discuss politics, it often does get heated.

While it"s probably not going to happen, Ivanka joining her dad as his vice president running matewould certainly soften the often harsh appearing campaign. She might really up the ante in the vote department for her dad.

Drug Kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Escapes Mexican Prison Once Again

EL CHAPO ESCAPES PRISON AGAIN?

Claim: Drug lord Joaquin Guzmn escaped from a Mexican prison for the third time.

Origin:On 31 January 2016, a fake news site published an article reporting that drug notorious lord Joaquin Guzmn (commonly known as "El Chapo"), who had just been re-arrested by Mexican authorities seven months after he escaped from a maximum security prison, had broken out of prison for a third time:

Early this morning, drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmn, head of the Sinaloa Cartel, escaped from the Altiplano maximum security prison once again.

This is now the third time Guzmn has escaped from a Mexican prison and brings into question Mexico"s ability to keep corruption out of its penal system.

In 1993, Guzmn was captured in Guatemala, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mexico for murder and drug trafficking. In 2001, after bribing Mexican prison guards, he was able to escape from a federal maximum-security prison in 2001. On February 22nd, 2014, Guzmn was found inside his fourth-floor condominium in Mazatln, Sinaloa, and was captured without any gunshots being fired. Guzmn escaped from prison again on July 11th, 2015 by exiting through a tunnel that led to a nearby construction site. He was recaptured by Mexican marines following a shootout at Guzman"s hideout in Mexico on January 8th, 2016.

Although Guzmn has indeed escaped from custody in Mexico more than once, there was no truth to this story about his having broken out of the Altiplano maximum security prison once again.

Trump campaign official blames Clinton for encouraging Dallas shooting

Michael Bautista captured part of downtown Dallas shooting during Facebook Live

Last Updated Jul 8, 2016 3:35 PM EDT

Donald Trump"s Virginia state campaign chairman said in a Facebook post that Hillary Clinton is to blame for "essentially encouraging the murders" of Dallas police officers Thursday.

Corey Stewart said, "Liberal politicians who label police as racists -- specifically Hillary Clinton and Virginia Lt. Governor Ralph Northam -- are to blame for essentially encouraging the murder of these police officers tonight."

Stewart then shared a second comment on Facebook that was still critical of Clinton.

Reacting to Stewart"s initial post, Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks told the Times that the campaign condemns what he said.

"Corey does not speak for the campaign and this is not something we agree with," Hicks said of Stewart, who also reportedly plans to run for Virginia governor next year.

Former Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Illinois, sent a threatening tweet as the Dallas shooting was unfolding that said, "3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded. This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you." Though Walsh deleted the tweet, an MSNBC producer got a screenshot of it first.

Walsh sent a storm of tweets throughout the night, and he later denied calling for violence against the president, though he still squarely placed the blame for the deaths of the Dallas police on Mr. Obama.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the original post had been deleted.

Mets" Matt Harvey facing possible season-ending surgery

Top 3 Signs You May Have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. (Arm Pain)

NEW YORK >> All of a sudden, the New York Mets face this sobering uncertainty: Matt Harvey might never be a healthy ace again.

The struggling star has symptoms consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome and could require season-ending surgery to treat a serious condition that has jeopardized the career of other major league pitchers.

General manager Sandy Alderson announced the unusual diagnosis Thursday after Harvey was examined in St. Louis by a specialist, Dr. Robert Thompson. Alderson said a decision on surgery is expected in the next few days before the All-Star break.

I think you can bounce back from it, but everybodys different, as we know, anytime you have surgery. So theres a level of concern, Mets manager Terry Collins said. But certainly, you cant be very excited about it. You just dont know.

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a condition caused by the compression of nerves, blood vessels or both in the area between the neck and armpit. After his start Monday, the 27-year-old Harvey complained of some common symptoms, which include numbness in fingers and shoulder discomfort.

The former ace was seen by Mets doctors, referred to Thompson for further examination and placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to Tuesday.

His arm just felt like it was dead, Collins said.

Another temporary treatment option is a nerve-block injection that might help Harvey return to the mound fairly quickly, but surgery is probably inevitable and the operation usually requires a four-month recovery period, Alderson said.

Thompson would likely perform the procedure, the GM added. Surgery sometimes involves the removal of a rib.

Other big league pitchers have been treated for TOS with inconsistent results and varying degrees of success, including Josh Beckett, Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia, Matt Harrison, Shaun Marcum and Chris Young.

Thompson removed one of Youngs ribs in a 2013 operation that helped the right-hander make a successful comeback as a major league starter.

Again, anytime that you introduce a significant surgery of this type, I think you have to be cautious about what will happen, Alderson said. But at the same time, I fully expect that Matt will be back and ready to go in 2017.

Harvey, who missed the 2014 season following Tommy John surgery, is 4-10 in 17 starts with a 4.86 ERA 80th among 99 qualifying pitchers in the majors.

He had been scheduled to start Saturday night at Citi Field against Max Scherzer and the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. Right-hander Logan Verrett will pitch Harveys his place and could get a chance to hold down that spot in the rotation.

Verrett is 3-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 23 appearances this season, including five starts.

Well evaluate it, but right now hed be the guy we would lean toward, Collins said. Logans got some big shoes to fill.

Complicating matters for a suddenly fragile Mets rotation, right-hander Zack Wheeler has had several setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery this year. The team initially targeted the All-Star break for his return, but Wheeler hasnt even thrown off a mound yet and theres no longer a timetable for his expected progress.

We have no idea when hes coming, Collins said. Its another huge setback.

Alderson said he is confident, not certain that Wheeler will be back this season.

The defending NL champions trailed Washington by four games going into the opener of their four-game series Thursday night.

Harvey has given up 111 hits in 92 2/3 innings, with 76 strikeouts and 24 walks. He hasnt won since May 30, but he and the team had insisted all season he was healthy.

The Mets reiterated Thursday that the right-hander didnt mention any symptoms until after Mondays outing, when he was tagged by Miami for six runs five earned and 11 hits over 3 2/3 innings before New York rallied from a 6-0 deficit to win.

For the Mets, the news means two of the teams top stars have developed career-threatening health conditions in less than 14 months.

Third baseman David Wright was diagnosed with spinal stenosis last year and missed more than four months. The 33-year-old captain has been sidelined again since late May and is expected to miss the rest of the season following neck surgery to repair a herniated disk.

I dont want it to sound like woe is me but woe is us, Collins said.

Selected seventh overall by the Mets in the 2010 amateur draft out of North Carolina, Harvey blossomed into one of baseballs best pitchers three years later and started the 2013 All-Star Game on his home mound at Citi Field.

He returned from Tommy John surgery last year and went 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA in 29 starts covering a career-high 189 1/3 innings.

Late in the season, agent Scott Boras said doctors recommended that Harvey be limited to approximately 180 innings in his first year back. At first, the pitcher was noncommittal about going beyond that total generating a firestorm in New York with the Mets in the middle of a playoff race.

Soon after, he announced he planned to pitch in October.

Harvey threw an additional 26 2/3 innings in the postseason, going 2-0 in four outings while helping the Mets to their first pennant in 15 years.

He was working on a shutout in Game 5 of the World Series against Kansas City when he pushed to pitch the ninth inning and talked Collins into it. Given a chance to go back out to the mound, Harvey faltered and the Royals rallied to win the championship.

Mets" Harvey might need surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim
